Cave Story 3D was originally planned as a 3DS launch window title but was then delayed until August, and it looks like the game hasn't stopped slipping as publisher NIS America has announced that the game has been hit by yet another delay.
The press release reveals that the cause of the push back is due to gameplay improvements needing to be made in order to satisfy fans both old and new. Cave Story 3D will now launch in North America on 8th November.
As long as all the problems have been ironed out, we're sure gamers will be willing to wait an extra few months if it means we'll get a polished title on the 3DS. To help keep you occupied until November, find out what we thought of Cave Story 3D in our First Impressions: Cave Story article.
CAVE STORY 3D RELEASE DATE CHANGED TO 11/8/2011
Santa Ana, Calif. – NIS America announces today that its first Nintendo 3DS™ title Cave
Story 3D will be released on Nov 8, 2011 due to additional game improvements.
"We are currently undergoing improvements to enhance gameplay. Changes are in the
small details, but in order to satisfy both the fans and the new players we need to make
sure the game is done right. Please look forward to it this holiday season. Cave Story 3D
will be a blast," says Jack Niida, producer at NIS America, Inc.ABOUT CAVE STORY 3D
Cave Story 3D is a side-scrolling action/adventure game inspired by the fan-favorite 2D
original. Now in a full 3D world, Cave Story takes the proven 2D action exploration into
stereoscopic awesomeness. You wake up in a cave with no idea who you are or where
you came from, but you know you must help a cute race of rabbit-like creatures beat the
crap out of some crusty old doctor. Our hero wakes up in a cave with no idea who he is
or where he comes from-what he does know is that a cute race of rabbit-like creatures
called Mimigas is in mortal danger at the hands of a maniacal scientist, and he's the only
one who can save them!
As you advance through the game, you'll learn the origin of the Mimiga world, as well as
your own. Like the critically acclaimed Pixel masterpiece, Cave Story 3D is a combination
of high-speed shooting action scenes with an emphasis on platforming, exploration, and
light puzzle solving, as well as an engrossing storyline.

Well, I'd rather wait and have a highly-polished title than get an unfinished product now.
Plus I still don't have a 3DS, so the delay gives me more time to save up for this game :3
Well, at least it'll come out this year (hopefully).
I spent a minute trying to work out how 11/8 meant it had been pushed back. Date fail. xD
Not too bad I guess, I'd rather a developer take time to polish a title than rush it to launch and fluff it up.
Since it was originally coming out a in EU a month later in September, this probably means that it will be out in December for EU.
Will this be the next Duke Nukem, i hope not
@Kidtendo - nope. Duke Nukem was a lot longer and wasn't also freely available.
PAL will get this in 2020
I'm not surprised.
It wouldn't be Cave Story without the delays.
No way!
Another great game due out near the end of the year? The hell!
Nice try Nicalis, but I'll still wait for it instead of purchasing the DSiWare version.
Ya! This means I can get this for my birthday.
Chances of me purchasing the game now have decreased. Too many great Nintendo games coming out around that time.
Haha, didn't see that coming at all. :3
Well, better late than never,right?
I am kind of with ballkirby1 on this one. I was interested in buying this, because of the date it was coming out...but Nov. seems like it will be right around all the hot Triple A titles. May just wait for a sale, since I have already beaten the game on WiiWare.
How hard can it be to work on a 5 min long game.
I can wait longer looks like a great game.
(but let's just hope we don't have another Duke Nukem again lol)
Torture!!!
@LordJumpMad: Just because you die 5 minutes in doesn't mean the game itself takes 5 minutes as a whole.
I find it funny that the original game was made by one guy, and yet all these rereleases by groups of people end up with constant delays. The only extras I'd care about are a beta version of the game and ikachan as a bonus (maybe the other games pixel made too).
You can always count on not counting on Nicalis
whoa may have to take put this on hold or something got way too many games to get in november that im not cutting anything out for this
Cave Story? Delayed? Shocker!
Since this game is getting delayed...again...this should be the best danm version of Cave Story! Worried about the Hell level, I can just imagine falling blocks and angels flying everything in 3D. Someone is bound to get a seizure.
Hey, that's on my birthday!
@WiiAboutU: we know it can be had for free on our computers — most of us have downloaded the free version already.
@New_Age_Retro_Hippie: Why not just play the original version then?
November is a horrible time to release the game, there's so much coming out around that time. Releasing in summer where there's practically a game draught is a much better idea.. I guess it can't be helped, but this is just going to get burried by the likes of Skyrim, Halo and Uncharted now.
polish it all the way, because that is the main problem with most 3ds titles. unpolished, unfinished,rushed...
currently playing the eshop version, and if im satisfied and want more, ill get that game for sure.
I actually love this because that means the developers can polish the game to the finish and it isn't rushed. Plus my birthday is August
@New_Age_Retro_Hippie
Actually, it was confirmed you could use the original graphics.

Here we go again...
@Atomic_3DS_Man: You can use the old character sprites, but as far as I'm aware that doesn't change the backgrounds.
@SoulSilverIV: That is actually not a date fail. Most people in the US use the formula Month/Day/Year.
