Re: Sword And Shield Are Now The Fourth Best-Selling Core Pokémon Games, Here's How They Rank

@BeefsoundMagnus I can't help but agree. The BW/BW2 games probably have the most compelling storytelling and detailed world-building in the series. I think what really hurt their sales were the fact that they were released near the end of the DS's lifespan and people were already turning towards newer handhelds (i.e. the 3DS). They really are spectacular, despite the awkward camera angles, battle sprites, and monster design. To be honest, I'd rather have a gen 5 remake than a gen 4 one like everyone else. Imagine Castelia City rendered with full 3D models and done in HD...

I have owned every core Pokemon game, excluding Pokemon Green for obvious reasons. My favorites are by far Pokemon Emerald and Pokemon White Version, just for the story and characters really. Please don't crucify me, but I found Diamond and Pearl to be very dull for most of the game, despite the spectacular conclusion to it. Sun and Moon are most likely my least favorite entries in the series, as they feel incomplete, and feel more like a mish-mash of ideas that seemed cool but ultimately lead to an underwhelming story. Not to mention it was almost entirely cutscene. Sword and Shield actually came close to beating out Black and White for my second favorite games, but the barebones afterstory and lack of things to do after the story concludes just left me feeling empty.

Re: Rumour: Concept Art Of Axed Sheik And Boo Projects By Retro Studios Surfaces

Static_Fanatic

I would love to see a spin-off game featuring Sheik, but the ACTUAL Sheik from OOT. If they really want a storyline featuring the Sheikah tribe, I think it'd be best to do a story detailing the fall of the Sheikah tribe as hinted at in OOT, not this lore ignoring story. The concept is cool, but would not work in the context of the series. I think we all could agree that Impa would make for a great player-controlled character. Mayhaps the story could tell Impa's story from before she became the Sage of Shadows. I want to know more about the Sheikah tribes "dark history", their connection to the Shadow Temple, and what happened to the other tribe members.

Re: Feature: Zelda: Majora's Mask At 20 - The Enduring Appeal Of Nintendo's Strangest Game

@Crockin I'm completely in agreeance. The other narratives are excellent, yes, don't get me wrong, but they lack the depth of Majora Mask. The game forces you to get to know each of the NPCs stories, making them feel like real people, and enriching Majora Mask's sense of foreboding and urgency. These aren't just someone I need to speak to for a bit of flavor text, they have desires, fears, routines, and lives that all may end in three short days.

@BulkSlash But that adds to the dark foreboding atmosphere of the game. You are unable to make a true difference, all of your progress seems meaningless, another part of the game that adds to the oppressive stressful feeling of the game that adds to its general electric feel. Majora's Mask nails atmosphere and knows how to evoke emotion and anxiety from the player, which is why it is arguably the best narrative given to us by the Zelda team.

Re: Angry Players Are Starting To Review-Bomb Animal Crossing: New Horizons

I believe that the one island per console thing is supposed to be a feature to allow multiple users to work together on a singular island, and to build their own houses. Its not a new feature (in New Leaf, all profiles had to share one town). If you're complaining about something as trivial as sharing an island, maybe Animal Crossing isn't your cup of tea.

@fafonio I watch a lot of Let's Plays, but mostly for games on platforms that I don't have, games I'd rather not buy, but are still interested in, and games that I can't afford. And I watch a lot of Let's Plays of games I have already played to watch and gauge the reactions to certain elements of the game or story and compare it to my experience. That's why I like Let's Plays.

Re: New Documentary Uncovers The Amazing Story Of EarthBound Beginnings

@Zeldafan79 The MOTHER series may not be getting any new games, but its influence is very present and thriving. Many indie game developers and even large studios were inspired by the wit, charm, and wackiness of the series. Without the series, games like OneShot, Heartbound, UNDERTALE, Oddity, OFF, etc. would not exist, or would be drastically different. And, sadly, I don't believe Mother 3 will ever get a western release considering how Nintendo avoids the topic like the plague.

I'm just excited to see the MOTHER series get some love in the media. It's an excellent RPG series and it's sad that it often goes unremembered and remains unknown to a vast majority of modern day gamers. I am very excited for this documentary to release and for the MOTHER series to get a bit of love outside of us dedicated fans.

Re: Review: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX - Fun, But Only In Short Doses

Static_Fanatic

I'm a big fan of dungeon crawlers, and the Mystery Dungeon series has a special place in my heart as I played them often as a child. I understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but, personally, I really love the Mystery Dungeon series. The repetitive tasks don't really bother me, and I love the redesign for an old game. (Also, of course they're charging full price. Do you know how many resources are poured into remakes of games? No one complained about the full price being put on Link's Awakening for the Switch)

I'm very excited for the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX. The Rescue Team games were amoung my favorites as a child and I am very happy to see them be remade together. I will also be downloading the Luigi's Mansion DLC, the new game modes will be fun to try with my little brothers.

Re: Nintendo Has Worked To Escape Its 'Childish' Reputation, Says Miyamoto

Static_Fanatic

I stick with Nintendo because I'm ALWAYS guaranteed a quality game with a good story. Did everyone forget how Nintendo's quality seal was the main reason why the video game industry today even exists? If the problem is that Nintendo's games are childish, I'd like to point out the Sin and Punishment series, the heavy sides of the Zelda series (i.e. Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, Breath of the Wild), and the Metroid series. Pokemon, which is deemed to be childish, is not even owned by Nintendo (the series is owned by Game Freak and the Pokemon Company). Excuse us, by the way, if we enjoy games that aren't dripping with themes of sex, drugs, and murder.
