Re: Video: Digital Foundry Weighs In On Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass Texture Complaints

SmithJurd

There's a lot of drama around here! Anyone coming at these tracks fresh would be expecting some blurry, unplayable abomination, which this is not 😂 Yes, some of it isn't up to the quality of the originals but it isn't noticeable if you're playing and enjoying the game instead of looking for something to criticise.

Nintendo are releasing 48 new tracks for a game that has sold tens of millions and is still in the top ten in the UK... Many casual gamers won't even know about these extra tracks and it's still selling.

Would it be nice if these new tracks were consistently hitting the heights reached by the base tracks? Sure. Does it make one iota of difference to your enjoyment of the game? It shouldn't and if it is then maybe you're approaching this gaming thing all wrong 🤷‍♂️

Re: Nintendo Switch Lite Officially Revealed, Launches This September

SmithJurd

@rjejr you just made 1 2 switch even more weird for me! Then I realised you wouldn't be able to play that here...

Options are good and the ds install base proves that this is a relevant product but audience fragmentation rarely works and having to know that you have to check for a little icon in the back of the box to decide whether your game will work is... Well I'm not sure how Nintendo intend(o) on relating this to customers.

But that's not really my concern and it isn't exactly going to harm the install base of switch.

To those bemoaning the gimped nature of the lite, Nintendo aren't discontinuing the current model so room for everyone in here

Re: Random: Rare's Logo Is Actually A Golden Toilet Roll

SmithJurd

@NEStalgia just a couple of questions on the content of the article before allowing you to post would work... Plus it's gets rid of my biggest frustration, the "don't care" comment crew... My only solace is they cared enough to take the time to post a comment!

Re: Rumour: New Ubisoft IP Supposedly Leaked Ahead Of E3 2019

SmithJurd

I've read the article a couple of times now and I must be missing something... Either that or some people are making some serious assumptions based on... Nothing? Happy to be proven wrong and pointed in the direction of information regarding this being f2p, having micro transactions, skins and the Illuminati attempting to control the population through less than savoury gaming business practices.

Not saying that this game won't end up like that but we don't currently have the information to back any of the evil assertions up as yet

Re: Feature: Talking Super Smash Bros. Ultimate With Nintendo's Bill Trinen And Nate Bihldorff

SmithJurd

@Cobalt... I'm not going to wade in to the "port" arguement other than to say as long as it has enough new content I'm happy. However, I get the sense that you misinterpreted trinens "there hasn't been a port" comment. He meant there has never been a smash port, not that Nintendo has never ported a game ever, that would be a ridiculous and clearly incorrect statement and to believe that is what he meant is a little... Silly

Re: Soapbox: My Nintendo's Updated Rewards Scheme Is Anything But Rewarding

SmithJurd

@holygeez03 That's a fair point however I'm only commenting on those not happy with the fact they're not getting more for nothing... But I agree that, having decided to roll this out, Nintendo's implementation is a little lacking! I often wonder if they do things on a whim which explains why they make so many seemingly strange decisions...

Re: Soapbox: My Nintendo's Updated Rewards Scheme Is Anything But Rewarding

SmithJurd

You buy a game you want, inherently agreeing to the asking price... Then complain that you are only getting 5% back!? Should I start complaining that I don't get 5% back on my rent/bills/fuel costs? Or should I give my employer 5% of my salary back each month? I don't understand the complaints and sense of entitlement... Oh wait, I'm on the internet!

Re: Review: GoNNER (Switch eShop)

SmithJurd

@Tetsuro OK I'm not sure what your trying to make out but I'm sure every culture and language has its own variant. I guess if nothing else good comes of brexit at least our European brethren will be saved from rampant Anglicisation 😂

Re: Review: GoNNER (Switch eShop)

SmithJurd

@Tetsuro It is not for you to dictate what people find cool nrt deride people for their reaction to a game. And it most certainly has nothing to do with being English, I'm not even sure what you mean by that.

Re: Review: GoNNER (Switch eShop)

SmithJurd

@Tetsuro As much as I appreciate a beautiful game I've always valued gameplay over graphics. I can put up with a certain uglyness or roughness but if the game plays like poo it wouldn't matter how good looking it is! Imagine the world's most beautiful person as an angry, racist bigot

Re: Review: GoNNER (Switch eShop)

SmithJurd

@Tetsuro Fair enough, our opinions differ but it does seem like you were making some pretty broad generalisations. Personally ive played a number of games over the years where my opinion has changed from seeing gameplay to actually experiencing, for the better and the worse! That's the beauty of being free minded individuals, if you don't like it, don't buy it 😁 As to your final point, graphics do not always add value and I think it's safe to say that is a fact!

Re: Review: GoNNER (Switch eShop)

SmithJurd

@Tetsuro Just for clarity... Have you actually played GoNNER? If not, what are you basing the claims of mediocrity on because all I've heard are good things... I too have been gaming for 30+ years and it's not just (or even generally) the games with cutting edge graphics that are the best.

Re: Review: GoNNER (Switch eShop)

SmithJurd

@Joeynator3000 My apologies sir, I did wonder if that was the nlife filter at work! 😁

@Tetsuro You seem to take issue with games that haven't been crafted by a team of hundreds and a budget of millions. Surely appreciation for any form of entertainment media should be based on an individual's preferences and their experience with the product and not on how much money was ploughed in to it or on which platform it originated? Saying that I realise my argument is somewhat hypocritical and that this whole matter is subjective. I appreciate all games regardless of where, who and what they came from and judge them individually, your opinion seems a more broad one. Each to their own, we'd be a boring species if we agreed on all things 👍

Re: Review: GoNNER (Switch eShop)

SmithJurd

@Tetsuro I try not to offend and make an effort to be constructive but you're talking poo about something you clearly haven't played.
Not once have I heard anyone refer to Switch as a "poopie indie supported console", what is a poo pie anyway!?
In fact the number of people I know who haven't touched Nintendo for years either have or intend to purchase a switch. And of those who have, a number of them have praised the variety.

To all but the close minded, indie games can be amazing too regardless of the net spend on development and shininess of graphics.

Re: Nintendo Switch Sales Surge Past A Million In Japan

SmithJurd

I'm not going to jump on the @SLIGEACH_EIRE hate train because the guy is entitled to his opinion and is expressing it on a public forum... We're all different with different outlooks and opinions on stuff, if we all felt the same life would be pretty effing boring!
BUT...Saying that switch docked is held back because developers also have to support undocked is a tad silly as it's like saying a game in PC can only be as good as the minimum recommended requirements allow but due to the ability of software to scale that's not the case, same with switch

Re: Review: Darksiders: Warmastered Edition (Wii U)

SmithJurd

@ThanosReXXX I've gone component on the Wii but all of the others are stock currently (composite or composite through a scart block) and the av hub I'm using outputs composite also. If I get a moment's peace at work tomorrow I know what I'll be doing 😀

I'll definitely pick this up then, I've been planning starting afresh on 2 for some time as it's been a while since I played it but I guess I'll play through the first one... First!

Thanks for your input (pun intended!) and advice though, I'm not particularly AV minded so it's very much appreciated.

Re: EA is Focused on Nintendo Switch Portability and "Exploring Other Products"

SmithJurd

@JaxonH I can see your point re showing that Nintendo owners do but third party but I think one potential problem with that is, if we have to end up buying crappy half arsed ports to prove this point your average publisher is going to assume that we'll snap up any old tosh and keep throwing that at us!!
I'm not saying that this FIFA looks bad, it actually looks considerably better than I was expecting but for every decent effort there are two (or more!) rush jobs.

One thing that I don't understand though is the perception by developers and publishers that Nintendo gamers don't want the full blooded experience, it must be 'different' (i.e. watered (dumbed) down and possibly include some 'party' game gimmick) Surely the continued poor sales of such iterations have proven that false?

Re: Review: Darksiders: Warmastered Edition (Wii U)

SmithJurd

@ThanosReXXX Yup, all still original wiring. Those sound perfect and certainly something I've been meaning to do for a while now but I'm currently working on building a custom cabinet to house them all... Might be worth sorting the connectivity before I commit to any sort of design though. Thanks for the links!

Having hijacked the thread I'll get back on topic and say that I wasn't really bothered about DS 2 when I got it as part of the humble bundle but ended up playing the arse off of it and since I've never played the original I'm definitely tempted to pick it up, warts and all. Thanks to THQ Nordic for delivering on the promise when most would have quietly binned it and probably have been no worse off for it and to nlife for reviewing it.

Re: Review: Darksiders: Warmastered Edition (Wii U)

SmithJurd

@Hikingguy I have a hub/switch thingy that I plug all my non hd consoles in to so I can at least keep those wires away from the usual melee around the back of the TV... I haven't finished yet either, still need to improve my sega collection, switch is next on the list though. Sadly both my Atari 2600 and Jaguar died painful deaths so hoping to replace them at some point too. And I need them all to be playable without having to faf around with unboxing and plugging in cables. At that point the cable situation will get unmanageable so I guess I'm just going to have to have one of the kids move out 😀

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Tackles the Native Resolution and Framerate in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD

SmithJurd

I seem to remember Aonuma commenting on why Zelda is still 30fps but can't find it unfortunately... The only reason ALBW was 60fps was due to the 3D...

Numbers hold no interest for me I'd rather gameplay, playability and, heck, entertainment!.

But its not just frames its resolution, GHz, install base, sales, etc... Why do people get hung up on this? Why not enjoy the games you enjoy on the platforms you enjoy them on? Why waste time arguing with people over arbitrary numbers?

Yes Wii U install base is not great but I enjoy it, could care less if others don't

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Tackles the Native Resolution and Framerate in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD

SmithJurd

I love being a gamer, something which I've been doing for the best part of 3 decades... I also used to enjoy reading articles and keeping up to date.

However I find myself avoiding the comments section on articles these days as no matter the article they all seem to decend into a pointless numbers game! Prime example on this article there is a comment stating the wiiu processor is weaker than the 360's, I can only assume this is an assumption based in numbers on the respective Wikipedia pages.

I will continue gaming and enjoying the games I enjoy regardless if platform or numbers and I'll be getting the TP HD remaster

Re: 3DS Saber Rider Game Back In Development, Kickstarter Campaign Mentions Wii U, PC Engine, SNES And amiibo

SmithJurd

@TeamSabreRider - What is the deal with that since I believe yacht club are handling their own production? I can't imagine Nintendo, with their own shortcomings in that area, handling third party production... I'll be honest and say that whilst I am a registered developer I haven't done anything with it recently so don't know what the deal is... Would be cool to maybe produce some low cost amiibo cards once I have a concept I'm happy with!!

Re: 3DS Saber Rider Game Back In Development, Kickstarter Campaign Mentions Wii U, PC Engine, SNES And amiibo

SmithJurd

@Kevlar44 - Fair point, hadn't considered that... Few things though, what was his role? How long ago did he work for NoE? Finally, NoE doesn't have the same level of autonomy as NoA so how 'in the loop' would an NoE staffer be?

Again, not doubting so much as mildly curious! Lots of big stretch goals for a niche game based on a niche 80's TV show by an unheard if developer.
