Re: Analysts Weigh In With Estimates for Wii U Fiscal Year Sales

SkywardCrowbar

My thing in general is that when you run a company like Nintendo that is adamant about forging it's own path, you're going to have really rough patches. Yes, Nintendo probably really dropped the ball with advertising and with getting the Wii U concept out there, but that doesn't doom the console. You have to take the successes with the failures. Wii U still has multiple heavy hitter coming out just in the next year. There's so much room for growth in software even without the hardware sales picking up. The Gamecube had a fantastic library of games, and sold enough to get by. That's all that is actually needed, for the Wii u to sell enough to get by. More than that is nice, but not absolutely needed for the console to survive.

I'd personally rather have Funky Kong (since he's always who I would play as in Mario Kart Wii) but this works too.

At this point, I really don't care too much about Wii U sales as long as the console sells enough to stay afloat. I'm just so happy with the games that Wii U has already and so excited for the games that will be coming in the future to Wii U. Haters can shut it.

Re: Happy Birthday, Wii U - You're One Today

Happy birthday Wii U! Regardless of the sales or any of that, I love you. To be honest, I've put more into Wii U than I have ever put into a console. I've shelled out around $1500 from this day last year when I picked up my pre-order. So many great games with so many more to come. There have certainly been ups and downs, but I've loved my Wii U through them all.

Obviously I want Wii U to soar in sales and be a huge success financially for Nintendo, but if it isn't and it finishes in 3rd this console cycle, as long as I get more wonderful games, I'll be happy enough.

@element187 My fiance games a lot, but she's mostly on the 3DS train. She plays Wii U sometimes, but not too often. Last console game she played was Bayonetta in preparation for Bayonetta 2. We really enjoy playing games like Wii Party U and Mario Party together, so I think we'll enjoy this Mario & Sonic game.

It bothers me how party games get so much crap from so many gamers. If they're fun to play with friends and family, then they are good and they have value. I love games that are difficult and involved and have stories, but not every good game has to have those elements.

Re: Nintendo Financial Reports Bring Minor Profit, 3DS Success and More Wii U Struggles

The thing is that Pikmin 3 and Wind Waker HD aren't system sellers in unto themselves. They are quality games that add to a quality catalog that overtime becomes filled with enough quality games that gamers look at it and say, "I need this console." So, I'm fine with their sales.

Super Mario 3D World is a system seller. We'll see how it does. Super Smash Bros. is a system seller. We'll see how it does. Mario Kart 8 is a system seller. We'll see how it does. Zelda HD is a system seller. We'll see how it does.

Price cuts and new bundles are system sellers, and now that we've gotten that, we've already seen an increase. These sales figures don't take all of those new bundle related developments into account. I see no reason to panic, and I don't think Nintendo does either. Consoles need a good 2+ years to come into their own. Everyone relax, take a deep breath, and let things play out. The Wii U isn't dead. Not by a long shot.

This hurts my soul... This game is getting hammered with the exception of the Famitsu score. I'm still excited to play it, but I REALLY wanted this to be amazing.

Also, I don't think is like with ZombiU as someone said earlier. ZombiU got way more good reviews than this is getting.

Re: Eiji Aonuma Explains Why The Legend of Zelda Isn't a Yearly Franchise

@unrandomsam You're right. Review scores are just the opinions of certain people. But they happen to be the opinions of well respected people within the industry. People who's opinions are trusted more than others due to experience and knowledge. At least in theory. I think that despite all of the problem that reviewers of any medium have, more often than not they are doing a solid job. More often than not I and most other people (This is anecdotal evidence, not scientific) think that games that are very well reviewed are very good. That doesn't mean that just because a game is well reviewed that everyone will like it or that it is good, but when a series of games like with Zelda have all been so spectacularly well reviewed, I think that's what the meaning of "gold standard" really is.

@SuperMinusWorld: I would agree that 3D Mario games are generally better than their modern 2D (2.5D) counterparts, but I still love the New Super Mario Bros. series. I gave New Super Mario Bros. U 10/10. I thought it was perfect and was the perfect blend of some innovation with classic gameplay with gorgeous HD visuals thrown in.

Re: Eiji Aonuma Explains Why The Legend of Zelda Isn't a Yearly Franchise

@unrandomsam You are stating opinion. I'm talking about review scores.

GameRankings:

Ocarina of Time: 97.54 (93.96 for 3D, 89.77 for Master Quest on GCN)
Majora's Mask: 91.95
Wind Waker: 94.43 (90.39 for HD on Wii U)
Twilight Princess: 95 on GCN, 94.58 on Wii
Skyward Sword: 93.25

The first 3 titles (through Link to the Past) are all considered classics. Legend of Zelda games are absolutely considered gold standard by critics, developers, and many gamers.

Also, Skyward Sword is my favorite game in the series, and my second favorite game of all time.

SkywardCrowbar

@Dambuster Are you a bot? Every time I see you comment "Watch the profanity please — TBD: I don't even see any profanity.

Anyway, both this and Golf are completely outdated. Nintendo should've had a sale where if you get one of them, you get the other half off.

Re: "Uninformed" Store Staff Are Hurting Wii U Sales, Claims Senior Games Analyst

SkywardCrowbar

I was just talking about this kind of problem with my fiance last night going to Target. She was like, "why on Earth would Nintendo name it Wii U? That will only confuse casual gamers and casual retailers." I think she's right on the money. Even Wii 2 sounds better than Wii U. Wii U makes it sound like it's an add on for Wii to the casual, uninformed gamer.

Now, hopefully this problem isn't nearly as bad as it was last year, as Wii U has been in the news (even on major, mainstream news outlets) for having a lackluster year in sales. I think this isn't so much of a problem anymore. More of a problem of games, and I think we're seeing that situation improve because Nintendo has dealt with the 3 major problems: Price, software, and visibility/knowledge about the system by casual consumers.

Re: Review: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist (Wii U)

SkywardCrowbar

Everything in this game works so beautifully. Also, there are only a couple of moments when you are forced out of stealth. If you are really good, you can stealth through the vast majority of the game.

The mechanics are so fluid, and the story is so good, this is much higher than a 7/10 IMO. Not going to pull a LoZ GTA fanboy and start demanding resignations, though. I'd give Blacklist a 9/10. Excellent game through and through.
