I can't wait to play Y's 1 and 2. Actually it will be a replay of 1 for me but I played the NES version before and didn't quite beat it (maybe 90% completion). Anyway, I am ONLY waiting on beating Breath of Fire 2, which I am probably also 90% through...soon, Sharecrow, soon...
I didn't know about the 100% qualifier....that is harder to meet. Every company is going to be sharing its attention with shareholders and consumers (when you say 'itself' you really mean its shareholders). So I can't fill that request but maybe someone else can. They all care, though, to varying degrees like I said...
I love duking it out but I feel like we are both mostly preaching to the choir....mostly.....not much of a fight, but it's fun banter.
Also, if they didn't provide an adequate return to their investors, they couldn't stay in business. Then customers wouldn't get anything, right??? Helping one tends to help the other too.
Not interested - I have worked in business for many years and have audited many, many different companies. To varying degrees, they all care. Some just act like it better than others.
I agree that Nintendo could be more sensitive to some of the shortcomings in hardware and vc offerings being frequently subpar to give some examples. It's not because they don't care, though....that's all I'm sayin'. As you noted, they are just trying to maintain a delicate balance between offering enough and offering too much. They have an even more critical obligation to their shareholders than they do to their customers, but they can't give shareholders a return without pleasing customers more often than not. I don't think we disagree with one another as much as it may seem....it's probably word-play like i said.
@SuperMario - I see what you are saying but I take issue with the assertion that companies that care about their consumers are unsuccessful and that those that don't are successful. Literally 100% of any company's revenues comes from consumers. How to execute their business model is of course up to their management and the board of directors, but consumers are always a central focus of that model. I may be playing with words more than anything else, but that's the way it seems to me....
@tnk4god - just because this game is different than other rpg's doesn't make it bad. Spend a little time with it and it may grow on you...it took awhile for it to grow on me when I played the NES version of 1. I know there are a lot of good games that don't require that, but give it a little while before you write it off. I am not trying to tell you what to do - just friendly advice...
I'm stuck on floor 10 too. I think there are only 3 puzzles left counting the one I am on. I swear they seem impossible sometimes....it's a great game, though.
Finally beat it! Awesome game. The 2- and 5-minute modes are a good addition as well. Hard mode is really hard....I dont think I'll try to beat it in hard mode. That would take me forever....I'm not that good yet.
I am okay with Squenix "milking" their classic RPG's as long as they actually do it. I'll definitely be buying the DW IV remake when it comes out. And I'll even have to get a new DS to do it (which I'll do) because my last one was jacked or perhaps lost. I'm still going to do it. That being said, I'd be one of the jokers that would still download the original on the VC if they ever released it just to play the original since I never did. Now that would be milking, but I doubt they will ever do it due to concerns about losing sales on the remake. Let's face it, though, I don't think they would lose much but I don't have readily available evidence to support my feeling that way....
The graphics look pretty good for being on an 8-bit console. Yeah, I'm definitely going to have to get my hands on this whenever it comes out. Good times.
This looks fun but it usually takes me awhile to finish a shooter. I have like 3 I am working on at once right now....well, 4 sort of. Yikes! But I'll get to this one too someday.
I finally read the interview and it was pretty good. I need to look around some for this magazine - I bet I would like it a bunch. I wonder if they allow American subscriptions....
@Dazza - whereabouts in Texas? I happen to live there, that's why I thought I'd ask. I may email them too; I bet I would really enjoy that magazine! I spend more time playing old games than I do new ones....
This looks pretty intense. I definitely want it. I must confess I hadn't heard of it before....I know that is shameful since I probably should have, but I want it no less for not having yearned for it over time....
I didn't know there was a TG16 version. I bet it's pretty good...
I remember this game being much tougher than Space Harrier 2 (but that could be because I was younger). I wonder if it really is a tough one. Anyway, I would be delighted to download this and try again now that I am old
@Virus - I share that worry a little bit. They'll have to get to them again sometime, right? I guess they don't....but hopefully we see more good stuff get released in the near future, for those consoles and the others too...
I happen to like the classic controller quite well, so I don't see myself buying other controllers.....maybe I'd think about it if the classic one didn't work well for a particular game, but I haven't come across one of those yet.
@will - Mafat Conspiracy would be a great release. I wonder if we'll ever see it....I guess most would think it is obscure, so maybe unless there are licensing issues I played and beat G13 Top Secret Episode and would love to spend some time going through Mafat Conspiracy.
R-type is an incredible game and it is definitely hard. I still can't make it to level 7....I can consistenlty get to the level 6 boss, but haven't been able to beat it yet. Grrrrr.....
I have DEFINITELY gotten my money's worth out of that game already, though. Good times.
Lolo is an awesome game. I am working on Adventures of Lolo 2 right now. Of course I am stuck, but only temporarily I guess you are almost always stuck in that game, though, between plays....
I could really go for SMS games, for sure! I just got unstuck in Breathe of Fire II, though, so I am busy enough at the moment. But I would still probably download some good SMS games if they start coming out more....
I like this game a lot. It's surprisingly addictive and certainly challenging. I feel so behind in my shooters.....maybe because I am playing four at once. Anyway, I'll beat each of those someday and someday I'll beat this one too.
That being said, I do hope that they release Life Force on the VC someday. That and Abodox!!!
I know that the US has games that Europe wants and doesn't have yet, but I still have to say that I hope we get Gley Lancer sometime....preferably soon!
@Tony - I agree. There are a few games that I would still buy the original even though I have a remake. And a few games that I don't have a copy of at all right now where I would want to play both versions just because I like them that much.

Re: Star Parodier
So how many levels are in this game?
Re: USA VC Releases: Ys Book I & II and Samurai Shodown II
I bet they wait a little while before releasing Megaman 2 since 1 only recently came out...
Re: EU VC Releases: Super Mario RPG and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
I don't think you'll have to get hit by a boot in the head, Rexy
Re: EU VC Releases: Super Mario RPG and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
@spacebooger - I hope you are right!
@mr cheez - einhander is a ps1 game
Re: EU VC Releases: Super Mario RPG and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
Einhander's a great game...don't need it on vc, though - already have it

Wow....congratulations, folks. Wow....

Re: EU VC Update - Samurai Shodown II
I used to play Pitstop II all the time. I loved it...and I'm not much of a racing game kind of guy. Too bad the US isn't in the c64 loop for vc...
Oh well - back to Lolo 2!
Re: RPG Action Comes to the US Next Month in Ys Book I & II
I'll definitely get Star Parodier and the Ys games at some point.
Re: Sonic the Hedgehog

Re: EU VC Releases - 11th July - Neo Geo Duo
I've never played a Neo Geo game in my whole life. I probably should, but I'm playing other stuff right now (and waiting on other stuff too)....

I would definitely be downloading the SMS version if it comes out. I haven't played it, but always wanted to...
Re: US VC Release - 30th June - Fatal Fury 2
Am not personally interested in this one, but at least it is (so I hear) a quality game. I hope those that were looking forward to it enjoy it
Re: Japanese Virtual Console list - July 2008
I would definitely download Shining Force II as well as the original Space Harrier shortly after their release in the US (if and when that happens...)
Re: US VC Releases - 23rd June - Alex Kidd in Miracle World
I want to download Alex Kidd for sure....

How much memory does it take? I haven't downloaded it yet....this sounds like a good feature but it may not be worth it.

@will - Mafat Conspiracy would be a great release. I wonder if we'll ever see it....I guess most would think it is obscure, so maybe unless there are licensing issues I played and beat G13 Top Secret Episode and would love to spend some time going through Mafat Conspiracy.
Re: US VC Releases - 9th June - NES Import Duo
I am glad to see more imports. I don't think I'll download either of these, but I am still glad to see them made available.
I didn't realize Dig Dug wasn't released in the US either. Learn something new every day....

Re: Soldier Blade
I got to level 7 recently and I gotta say it got really hard. I can hardly live for more than a couple minutes....
The game is great, though. I highly recommend it to fans of the genre.

I could really go for SMS games, for sure! I just got unstuck in Breathe of Fire II, though, so I am busy enough at the moment. But I would still probably download some good SMS games if they start coming out more....
Re: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
That's quite an accolade, Viral! Paper Mario is cool.
I'll definitely get my hands on this one when it is available for me to do so.
Re: Ys Book I & II
I wish they would release this already, but oh well - I'm juggling several games at once right now.
Re: EU VC Release - 23rd May - Paradroid
I played ET long, long ago. I liked it....not too tough of a game. There were much better atari 2600 games, but I had worse ones for sure...
Re: Gradius
I like this game a lot. It's surprisingly addictive and certainly challenging. I feel so behind in my shooters.....maybe because I am playing four at once. Anyway, I'll beat each of those someday and someday I'll beat this one too.

Re: Square-Enix Changes Its Mind About The Virtual Console?
@Tony - I agree. There are a few games that I would still buy the original even though I have a remake. And a few games that I don't have a copy of at all right now where I would want to play both versions just because I like them that much.
Re: Soldier Blade
This game is an awful lot of fun....
Re: US VC Releases - 5th May - Pokemon Puzzle League
No one has to play a game they don't want to play - even if it has gotten good reviews, acclaim, etc.
