Re: Dandy Dungeon Gives New Meaning To The Term "Fantasy RPG", And It's Out This Month

@docprof Yeah, I'm hoping that this is a, complete, version with no microtransactions. Similar to that of Timber Man Vs. and Fly O' Clock Vs. where both games originated on mobile phones that used ads and microtransactions; but the Switch version allows to unlock new skins and modes by working hard on the game, rather than paying transactions to unlock cosmetics. I really hope that the Switch version of Dandy Dungeon is a complete game for the $25 price tag!

Re: Dandy Dungeon Gives New Meaning To The Term "Fantasy RPG", And It's Out This Month

@Severian Hmm... Black Bird is more of a Fantasy Zone/Defender style shooter. They're not meant to be story epics, they're high-score based arcade games. I'll admit that Black Bird's price is a little high, but if you use gold points to get a discount, it's worth it for quick fire, high scoring fun.

Now Dandy Dungeon, I'll admit, is quite pricey for it's caliber; and I can't quite tell what it's meant to be. My biggest guess is that it's a parody of Tower of Druaga. But I hope that an independent game like this of that price tag is brimming in content. We'll just have to see.

Re: Random: We Really Hope The New Nintendo Switch Looks Like This

SepticLemon

I won't lie, I love the look of these!

The, laying down, dock is such a cool feature. But, you still need controls when it's docked, that's why I think the Switch Mini's dock needs the Joycon charge rails on it so that they be used when the system is docked, and charging when the system is out of the dock.

Re: R-Type Final 2 Kickstarter Campaign Will Include Nintendo Switch Version

SepticLemon

@EmirParkreiner I wouldn't mind getting a PC version, hoping that they do what Sega did with Yakuza Zero and Yakuza Kiwami1/2 where you can play those games in 144hz mode.

...not that you really need that in a Yakuza game, but it would be nice to play more shmups in that frequency. Silky-smooth 140+ frames per second with a really high response rate.

Re: New Details And Screens Emerge For Raiden V: Director's Cut On Switch

SepticLemon

I love the Raiden series, but the newer Raiden games drive me mad with all the silly story and plot points as everything is told to you in exposition with characters speaking to you. And it's not like Star Fox either, the characters constantly talk about how to save the world and how to defeat bosses.

If suffers too much from modern Radio call-ins.

Re: Review: Puyo Puyo Champions - A Fine Puzzler That's More For Veterans Than Newcomers

SepticLemon

I never understood why they called it Champions in the West, when it's called PuyoPuyo eSports in Japan. The name eSports alone would've been the key indicator that this is a higher-end difficulty PuyoPuyo game. Not to mention that's designed for eSports events with built in tournament tools so you can run your own Tournaments with it. Not to mention that the game has been approved by the Japanese eSports Union to push the game really hard across Japan as an actual sport.

We should have our own eSports union!

Re: Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers Officially Confirmed For Switch

SepticLemon

Well, dang...

There was me hoping that Persona 5 was coming to the Switch, but we're getting ANOTHER Musou/Dynasty Warriors crossover... I personally never got into the Musou games, though currently I'm guessing Hyrule Warriors a chance as I got the WiiU game dirt cheap. But here's hoping that Shin Megami Tensei V might get gameplay trailer soon, and it'll be more like a classic JRPG.

@Quarth Kwirk has better polish to it than other games. It changed the Sokoban gameplay with new mechanics such as rotating/turning walls and that you only needed to get to an end point rather than putting all the boxes in a new place, which could cause players to reset their game. Simply put, Kwirk/Puzzle Boy is a much better Sokoban/Boxxle. I just find it weird that in the western game, they changed Spud from Puzzle Boy 1 into a tomato in Kwirk. Gotta love weird localisation choices!

Re: Feature: The 50 Best Game Boy Games - Zelda, Pokémon, Metroid, Mario And More

SepticLemon

@Quarth Yeah, I've watched almost all of Jeremy's GameBoy World videos.

As for CaTrap, I just don't find it enjoyable. Though I will admit that the game's rewind function is handy. It's just that I find the game to be pretty dull IMO. It falls into the same range of games as Boxxle, Daedalian Opus, Flipull, and Q-Billion; a range of games that people put on the GameBoy to bank on the fact that Tetris was selling well, even though CaTrap has more in common with Jump Man and Lode Runner than a falling block puzzle game. Still, there were a lot of developers in the late eighties and early nineties trying a little too hard to make the next Tetris.

Re: Feature: The 50 Best Game Boy Games - Zelda, Pokémon, Metroid, Mario And More

SepticLemon

@daveh30 Yeah...

Link's Awakening gets far too much love. I mean sure, it's a great game. I personally think that Wario Land 1 is a better game. Not to mention that there are some right belters that only got into the 30s.

This list needed a few uncommon gems, even though CaTrap got in there, I could name a bunch of games better than it! Bubble Ghost, Hunt for Red October, Crystal Quest, Bill and Ted's Excellent GameBoy Adventure and Pipe Dream.

Re: Feature: The 50 Best Game Boy Games - Zelda, Pokémon, Metroid, Mario And More

SepticLemon

Of course, Link's Awakening would be at the top. It's just a huge shame that Metroid 2, Motocross Maniacs and Bionic Commando only appeared in the 30s.They deserve more love than that!

Plus, it's a shame that CaTrap was the only uncommonly known title to appear in the list, when in my opinion, games like Crystal Quest, Hunt for Red October, and Bubble Ghost are much better titles than CaTrap.

Re: Vote For Your Favourite Game Boy Games!

@Quarth LJN was simply just a publisher that had access to intellectual properties, due to making a lot of toys based on movies and wrestlers, and they gave developers the right to make games based on those franchises. At the end of the day, LJN never coded anything and it was completely up to the developers to make the game. But Laser-Beam didn't always make great games, after all you have We're Back and Bamse as an example. They even developed the terrible Back to the Future NES game that the AVGN reviewed. But they also developed Power Punch 2, the unofficial sequel to Punch Out that was released in the US.

You can see the games they developed on their Wikipedia page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krome_Studios_Melbourne
To make yourself aware, they began as Melbourne House, then changed the name to (Laser) Beam, sometimes they didn't use the Laser in their name. Then they got owned by Infogrames.

Re: Vote For Your Favourite Game Boy Games!

SepticLemon

@mjhopkins81 Yeah, these are all grey cart titles for the original range of GameBoy consoles. GameBoy, Super GameBoy, GameBoy Pocket and the Japanese GameBoy Light. Mind you the list only has western games in it.

Re: Vote For Your Favourite Game Boy Games!

SepticLemon

@Quarth Yup, both Bill and Ted, and Hunt for Red October were developed by Laser-Beam; however they had different publishers. LJM published Bill and Ted, and High Tech Productions published The Hunt for Red October.

Re: Vote For Your Favourite Game Boy Games!

SepticLemon

@Quarth The GameBoy does have stinkers though, and an awful lot of franchise based games compared to other formats. Dragon's Lair, Swamp Thing, and Zoids Densetsu are three of the worst games on the system. But you're right though, there's a lot of hidden gems on the system that some people barely talk about. It gets flooded by the talk of Pokemon and Link's Awakening!

Re: Vote For Your Favourite Game Boy Games!

SepticLemon

@Quarth Yeah, Bamse is one of those crazy games to get if you want a complete western GB collection. I on the other hand, am not working on a complete GB collection. But I did once own We're Back when I was younger when I went on holiday to the US one year, and actually saw said film on the same vacation. I ended up selling the game way back to get Wetrix on the N64 shortly after that game came out. Personally, I don't want to get those games, but the history of those games, including Laser-Beam games is fascinating. Not to mention that Laser-Beam made better games, such as Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, and The Hunt for Red October; both are franchise games, but they're some of the best franchise games you'll see on any system around the time.
