Re: Join The PC Master Race On Your Nintendo Switch With PC Building Simulator

@Paraka Eh... Currently I use a 144Hz monitor. 240Hz is nice if you moved from a 60Hz screen, but moving from 144Hz to 240Hz doesn't make a huge difference, not to mention that you'd have to have the hardware to run games at 240, or more, FPS to really make the use of a 240Hz screen. IMHO, I'd rather have a variable sync display (either g-sync or freesync) at 144Hz rather than a 240Hz display.

Oh man, how did I miss this!

As a member of a PC Master Race, don't worry, I play my Switch and PS4 too! I can say this is a great way to show console gamers who have yet to build a PC of their own to know what it's like to build, repair, and overclock PC hardware. I've met many console gamers who are scared to death by the idea of assembling their own PC, and have to rely on laptops and pre-built machines that are typically quite naff. This will be one very good edutainment game. Infact, the standard version (without DLC content) is on offer at Humble Store right now! https://www.humblebundle.com/store/pc-building-simulator

@Prizm I looked it up. The resolution used is 320*200 which is a 8:5 ratio, which is slightly wider than 4:3. But the issue is that resolution of 320*200 was used on typical 4:3 monitors, so each pixel is a little squashed. But running it on a flat screen LCD display, it runs at set square pixels, and the picture looks wider than what it did back then.

@gangsterswedish Well, this is Bethesda we're talking about here. 2018 and 2019 haven't been their best years now have they?

I'll give them the credit that they wanted to release the, most authentic Doom port ever, but they made some odd choices in doing so, and the whole "The Bethesda account thing was only to get a reward" is a bit conspicuous that they're aware they made a mistake, and are now trying to remove the requirement in an update.

@Prizm I wonder if there's a mean to run a software-based MIDI sequencer on the Switch? Or is the hardware and software too new to do that?

I remember having to install a software MIDI sequencer when I installed Final Fantasy VII on my PC back in the day that came with the game, because without it, the game would sound weird. But even then the PC version of FFVII had it's redbook audio removed which was blasphemous! lol!

@SuperNinjaTendo If you want, but there are issues in the Switch, PS4 and iOS versions of Doom. Bethesda wanted to make an authentic DOS experience, so they set the games frame rate at 35fps, which is fine for an old VGA monitor running at 70hz, as it's an integer divivable (35 is half of 70), but it looks weird on a screen running at 60hz(TVs) and 120hz(iPhone and iPad screens). Then there's the 3rd party DRM that this game has. In order to start the game, you need a bethesda.net account to log into. But the very moment you get disconnected, the game will constantly annoy you with connection messages and there isn't a means to reconnect unless you close the game, and boot it back up within WiFi or a LAN connection.

Bethesda claims that it was something to do with claiming some kind of bonus in your bethesda account for logging in. But I doubt it seeing as it harrasses you to connect to the internet.

I would suggest waiting. Bethesda claims that they're working on an update to fix this connection requirement.

@Cotillion Not being improved upon to me isn't the real problem. The problem is that for a game that's trying to get the authentic DOS experience, they're using a frame rate that's not great for 60Hz displays, and they botched the music. But the biggest problem is that 3rd party DRM that constantly b***hes at you to connect when you walk away from WiFi or get disconnected; to make things worse it doesn't even try to reconnect afterwards. If anything, the classic Dooms release on the Switch is a botched release by Bethesda. They could've done thing MUCH better!

Re: Review: Doom - Blasting Hellspawned Demons Like It's 1993, All Over Again

@LuciferOnReddit I think the whole point was that they wanted to create the closest experience to the original DOS game. So no looking up and down, and running at the odd 35fps, which doesn't look great on modern TVs and displays.

Simply put, I wish they made a better job at it, the whole 3rd party DRM thing is simply stupid, and the lack of online multiplayer is a real kicker!

Plus, the botched music doesn't help either!

Re: A Sonic GameCube Controller For Nintendo Switch Is On The Way This Summer

SepticLemon

@garydbz25 OH!

You know what Dreamcast game I WOULD LOVE to see ported or remade on the Switch?

Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1&2!

I loved playing those on the Dreamcast and GameCube! It was the only MMO I ever got into! As much as I'm happy to see Phantasy Star 2 coming out for XBoxOne and PC, it's eight years too late for me. Not to mention it's a free to play game with a lot of microtransactions; mainly for cosmetics though.

Re: Sega Ages Space Harrier "Coming Soon" To The Switch eShop In Japan

SepticLemon

Oh man! I love Space Harrier!

...but...

I honestly wish that glasses-less 3D TVs were a thing. I love Space Harrier on the 3DS, the depth really made that remake-ish-port-ish really special!

Sure, we can now play this on a bigger screen. but I already own Space Harrier on the Saturn. Than again I say this, and I already own Sonic, Outrun, Alex Kidd, and plenty of other games multiple number of times anyway, and still got a Switch port!

...so I might end up getting this anyway! lmao!

Re: Atari's Take On The "Classic Edition" Trend Will Cost You At Least $250

SepticLemon

@Rafke No, this system uses an AMD Ryzen CPU in it, which is certainly more powerful than a WiiU. Not to mention that the WiiU only had 2GB of RAM, whilst there's two SKUs for this Atari VCS, a 4GB and 8GB version. It's certainly more beefy than a WiiU. But I doubt that Atari will ever show off what the system is capable of doing with it's, Sandbox, mode. In which case, it's just a cheap PC for a TV.

Re: Atari's Take On The "Classic Edition" Trend Will Cost You At Least $250

SepticLemon

Just a couple of things to say about this...

1. This isn't a, Classic, or, Mini, machine. It's a new console by Atari, or at least made to look like a new console by Atari. As a note to this, the Atari we knew back in the 70s and 80s is long dead...

2. There's no games for it, apart from the selection of games built into it from Atari. Seeing as there's already an Atari Flashback collection for the Switch, this console is pointless without any other games made by third parties; which they haven't said anything about, mainly because I believe developers are avoiding this like the plague!
