I'm fine with having this as a download, not a problem for me. Sure I like a box on my shelf but the convenience of downloads is a decent trade off. Got 5 3ds games on download so far (hell of a lot more boxed ones) including code of princess which is d/l only and I wanted to support.
On a seperate note I'd hope this comes in at around £20-25 that'd be a smart move on capcom's part...
Once a huge story like this hits the press there's a public desire to read/watch more and more about it. This means the press & rolling tv news need to keep finding fresh angles on the story to keep it interesting. Take this horrible attack for example. Day 2's angle was all about trying to apportion blame so they start to ask questions about MI5 and why the security services couldn't stop them. I can see the next new angle being how these vile people were radicalized by extremeist groups.
Thing is with this kind of blanket news coverage can you imagine what the next angle would have been if somone at any paper or news outlet got wind of an event to publicise a video game using pools of blood and body parts when a soldier has just had his head hacked off in the street?
It would have been pretty disastrous PR wouldn't it?
@banacheck I know you mean well and everyone's entitled to form their own opinion but personally speaking I'm not naive and I actually have a BA Hons in Journalism. I'm chosing to believe the sources in the article because of the balance of evidence and my own interpretation. If the article is untrue then Dyak was free to sue Kotaku. He chose not to comment on the story at the time despite Kotaku's repeated requests.
Also Kotaku did not just base this article on an interview with one whistle blower, here's a quote form the original piece:
"Ultimately, I secured interviews with eight former SK employees who worked on XMD, including the initial whistleblower. Between them, these former staffers represented over 45 years of service to the Canadian game development studio. All of them spoke to me on the condition of anonymity, for obvious reasons."
Anonymity is understandable considering the circumstances. Remember sources are anonymous to the reader but they are not anonymous to the writer, they can verify the source. As the writer in this instance reached out to these people he is talking to the right people. Interesting to note too that of the people he spoke to not a single one countered the allegations.
As I said I'm not attacking your opinion I'm just saying personally I'm not naive (I'm a trained journalist) and it's not the opinion of one source -its from multiple sources.
By the way I'd also love for there to be an Eternal Darkness 2 -I loved the first it was one of my favourite GC games. I just can't reconcile my desire for that game with my personal distrust of Dyak. Also full discolsure here- I actually quite like Kotaku, it's well written and has good standards. Nintendolife is better though -we probably all agree on that...
I read this at the time and its an enlightening read. I also thought kotaku were very fair in their reporting and its why I haven't supported the new eternal darkness game. I'd advise anyone on here to give the original article a read before commenting, its very inyeresting and will fill you in on a lot of background info especially on Dyaks alleged behaviour
It's only 30p, I lived with subtitles when I paid £50 for it when it was first released - they're only on screen for a few mins in the intro!
People should chill out. Reality is we're only going to get one version for Europe and you know what- I'd rather a wider amount of people in the european region could understand the plot a bit better and get a little more enjoyment out of my favourite SNES game.
30p-a small price to pay for one of the best games ever made, even with subtitles...
Looks like a cross between Harvest Moon, Wind Waker and FFVII. Which just happen to be 3 of my all time favourite games. This has just made the top of my wanted list.
@undead_terror I mis-read what you said initially and thought you wanted your tomb to be filled with redheads. A pretty strange final wish if you ask me...
Oh yeah and joking aside I echo what everyone's said above. I don't think they'd find a very receptive audience on Wii U after not allowing anyone who bought their original games to transfer it over. I mean its literally the only game you can't transfer. Maybe there's a good reason but they should probably tell people why before they start to talk about a new one...
This isn't a big whinge, I don't expect to be able to have all my old games on a new console, its just that it stands out because its the only one that can't transfer. Plus to the best of my knowledge after the transfer I can't play it on my wii either- cheers!
The old final fantasy games had all their pubs turned into cafes, especially amusing when people were running about presumably totally wasted on all that coffee...
@3Daniel Really? I played single player and totally ignored the online modes in the main. I personally don't think it's a key part of the experience at all- at least it wasn't for me anyway. Depends what you want from a game.
If you like guardian heroes then I'd recommend this. Had great fun with it, the fighting system is great and the script is genuinely hilarious. Wish they'd put a demo out as more people would take the plunge then...
EDIT 3Daniel- just read your later post and yeah using all the unlock characters on online would be fun- I get where you're coming from now
Cool idea, now if only one of the cabs was a Big the Cat one where you could walk along leisurely occasionally stopping to enjoy some basic fishing then I'd be interested... Don't hold much truck with this running malarky
I was a big supporter of the vc on wii. When I was young (im 32 now fact fans) I loved my NES & SNES so I've relived a load of my favourites like Secret of Mana, the Marios and Zeldas, Super Metroid and Megaman & pumped close to 100 hours into SNES Sim City. Because my 7-15 year old self couldn't afford much from pocket money and birthday and xmas presents its nice to be able to pick up a lot of the games that I've missed over the years too.
Oh and Gamecube would be sweet. I'm also really looking forward to some Wdvance Wars action on the gamepad if they release that as a future GBA vc game, which let's face it they'd be stupid not to...
It saddens me that people can be disapointed by any list containing the best 2D platformer ever made. People need to calm down...
Lets face it -its week one of the vc on wii-u there'll likely be new stuff each week and, as on the wii, a staggered release schedule is the best way to ensure that people take a punt on more lesser-known classics.
Personally I know a lot of the early stuff I'll have already as ambassador games on 3ds or on my wii or original cart anyway so I'm not expecting it to be amazing straight away but hey-soon enough I'll probably be playing advance wars on the gamepad. What a nice reassuring happy thought eh?
It's alright, it does look slow paced but you buy an item early on which increases your speed and makes it far more super meatboy-like. I'd say its 7 out of 10 material -worth spending 4 or 5 £'s on if you're bored. Jesse_1 above is exactly right- a nice time killer.
Here's the list I emailed in, figured mario would get enough votes and If it was a top 12 Ducktales and Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers would get in...Was weirdly obsessed with playing a boy and his blob when I was younger by the way...
1. Kidicarus 2. A boy and his blob 3. Little Nemo the dream master 4. Castlevania 3 5. Bubble Bobble 6. Zelda 2 7. Turles 8. Kickle Cubicle 9. Megaman 2 10. Snake Rattle & Roll
I piked up Tekken Tag 2 for £20 the other week and it's the definitive version beyond a shadow of a doubt. Haven't had that much fun with Tekken since T3 back on the PS1
Important to remember its not the developers fault this was delayed and went multi-platform. Shame it was delayed though because in the middle of the software drought I would have picked it up...
I got a yellow pikmin plushie from it before which is nicb. Recently got a wii snes controller which is AWESOME for snes vc games-thats well worth the 7000 points or s

If it was released when it was meant to be then I would have picked it up for sure but now I suspect there'll be a lot of different options towards the end of the year. Like Wind Waker for instance...
I literally just finished 100%ing this on my xbox and had a great time. Throughly recommend it. It's open world and some of the puzzles are really quite clever which was a rarity in lego games before this and undercover. If anyones between games on wii u you could do a lot worse than picking this up imo.
@sikthvash Those were the days indeed. Used to log into the wii shop at midnight every thursday to see the new VC releases too. What are you going to spend yours on? I bought Puddle on the sale and its surprisingly good- recommend that if you have a wii u. Could have done with points before I bought code of princess last week- great game esp if youre a guardian heroes fan.
I remember playing this on the Atari ST for hours and hours when I was about 10 years old. I loved it but looking back I realise I had absolutely no idea what was going on...
I recommend people do a search for a kotaku article on silicon knights. Essentially the ceo was leading a lot of publishers down the garden path which is why the company went into meltdown and, for all intents and purposes, no longer exists.
Loved ED it was great and I'd like some other company to taje over the reigns. Retro have been mentioned above but I'd prefer it if they were working on a new Starfox game...
Looking forward to this. I'd sort of gone off Lego games but am playing lego batman 2 at the mo and the open world works really well in that and has definitely breathed some life into the lego series imo.
Hopefully they can fix load times with a patch, not the end of the world really. As a 32 year old lego mini figures fan tragically I'm picking up the special edition with the Chase McCain mini fig. Oh dear....
Hey @Chukie-Doll I used to love Super Mario Bros 2 when I was a kid. I remember when I got to the end boss Wart I actually called my Mum and Dad in to watch me in my moment of glory. I was 9 btw. I tehn promptly lost and my parents were non-plussed.
To be fair they would have been fairly non-plussed if I beat it they didn't get games...
Really hyped for this. Great preview by the way @Thomas, gives people a good idea of what to expect and most importantly how it plays (something that's usually lacking on a lot of other sites).
Really like the sound of making superbuilds, I can see myself playing this until I've completed all those...
For clarity the bit of the review I'm referring to is "The unlocked tables that you've just clumsily paid for will only work — at least in our experience — if you've already downloaded the equivalent trial tables, too; the game doesn't tell you to do this." It does tell you on the download screen for the full table unlock although some people could miss this if you click past without reading.
I think it's unfair to dedicate so much of the review to a process you really only have to go through once. Plus it really isn't that confusing IMO. If you go to download the full unlock of the table it does actually tell you how to do it properly on the download screen, kind of unfair to say it doesn't.
Shame about the score but reviews are just somone's opinion and I'd never begrudge that. I have a few tables on this version and all the tables on the xbox version. I think its great fun and a perfect "chaser" game-great to unwind with for a few mins after playing something more involving for hours.
Me and my friends had so many dodgy knock-off lcd games from Cardiff market when i was little. Still good fun though.
