Re: "Free Melee" Becomes "Save Smash" Following Nintendo's Legal Action Against Competitive Smash Bros. Event

@Minfinity the tournament could have gone on if they listened to Nintendo and stuck to Ultimate. They "stuck to their guns" so Nintendo shut them down. The reason they can do that has nothing to do with emulation or piracy, it's right of performance: in the cases of film, music, or video games, the IP holder can stop public use of their art. So if you are a musician, you can stop a politician you find distasteful from playing your song at a rally, or in this case, Nintendo can stop a public event or venue from using their IP, including Ultimate, for commercial purposes, for any reason they feel like.

@StevenG no, there is no meaningful, objective difference: again, neurologists have been pretty clear on that point, there is no significant difference in measurable objective perception past 24 FPS. There may be some subjective taste in some cases (it is possible to detect the difference for some people, but it doesn't effect processing performance past 24FPS).

Re: A Short Hike's Sales Have Been "Much Stronger" On Switch Compared To PC

@Bomberman64 as you say, I can only speculate and speak for myself: but as a Nintendo fan and PC Gamer who enjoys Indie games, I've found that for the focused play experience of an Indie game, the Switch platform is perfect. I don't need a whole keyboard and mouse set-up when a pair of Joycons will do.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a huge Venn diagram overlap between people who enjoy Super Mario Bros. and people who like Indie experiences, for that matter: Nintendo fans are the natural audience for this sort of thing.

Re: Does Nintendo Have A Handheld Future Beyond The Switch? Yes, Say The Experts

The hybrid model is here to stay, Nintendo will never go back to having seperate platforms. A few years from now, we'll probably see a generational leap with Nvidia's latest tech, with some wild Nintendo twist, but it will be a hybrid.

The reason why Nintendo doesn't compete head to head in the home space with Sony & Microsoft is simple: Microsoft is losing $200-250 on each Series S/X they are selling, reportedly, and Sony is also not afraid to lose money on each console sold. Nintendo means to make a profit, and can't meet the price point of their competitors with a directly comparable tech spec. Been that way since Microsoft entered the market, and Sony learned their lesson by charing an accurate price for the PS3 at first.
