Re: Random: Looks Like Sonic Might Be Getting His Own FunkO's Cereal

NPC411

Funko's entire style is so generic and repetitive that they can't even be bothered to change the shape and style of their cereal across franchises. When you've bought one Funko cereal, you've literally bought them all. Seriously, Sonic and Mega Man have the exact same cereal as Huckleberry Hound, Wonder Woman, and... the Golden Girls. Why do people keep giving Funko their money?

Re: Review: Pokkén Tournament DX (Switch)

@electrolite77 @Maxz Why not just offer the additional content as a free upgrade for early adopters, though? It would have made more sense to hold off a year on an all-new retail release of a six-month-old game and add even more content instead of going this route.

@RoomB31 I, also, bought all the DLC for MK8 on Wii U and absolutely loved it. No, MK8 Deluxe's "extras" are not worth another $60 investment for me, and by buying it as a Wii U owner, you're only encouraging them to do the same thing with other titles.

Also, with this much salt in the comments section over having an opinion that may differ from others, it really makes me not want to comment again.

Re: Review: Pokkén Tournament DX (Switch)

As a Wii U owner who's been burned twice by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and now Pokkén Tournament DX, I will not be picking this up. The least they could have done is offer the new fighters on the Wii U version. Now, Nintendo is punishing early adopters of Switch games with an upgraded version of Snipperclips just six months after its original release! Of course, the writing on the wall would indicate we'll probably have a port of Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS on Switch in due time, but if there are not significant improvements and great amounts of additional content added, it will also be a no-buy for me.

Re: Epic Mickey Was One Of The High Points Of My Career, Says Warren Spector

NPC411

After playing several hours of Epic Mickey, it is safe to say that the concept was amazing, but the implementation was horrific. Sure, it was amazing to see so many classic Disney characters and Disney park references included, but some aspects made absolutely no sense. Why wouldn't things you painted in the overworld stay painted? Why would open missions suddenly become impossible to complete or failed without explanation? Why could you randomly fall to your death through objects and parts of stages? Why did the game take a minimum of three full playthroughs to 100% complete when there were only two possible endings?

For those of you looking for a better Epic Mickey experience, please play Paper Mario: Color Splash. Sure, you don't have the good/bad paths like Epic Mickey, but at least the stuff you paint stays painted and the glitches are to a minimum. Just ignore the wonky card-based battle system, though...

Re: We Know There's An Appetite For Virtual Console On Switch, Says Reggie Fils-Aime

NPC411

Is it possible that they don't have the Switch-compatible emulators for Virtual Console ready yet? Considering how they haven't worked out YouTube or Netflix, which are basic apps on most any smart device, they probably haven't dealt with Virtual Console, either. Let's also not forget the issues that faced the Wii U Virtual Console (NES games rendered too dark, control issues with F-Zero X on N64, etc.) and how Nintendo probably wants to avoid those same missteps in a new Virtual Console iteration.

Re: Nintendo Producer Highlights How Paper Mario: Color Splash Improves on Sticker Star

NPC411

@Bobb That has to be one of the most bizarre and overreaching things Miyamoto has done. The various Mario RPGs have thrived from the new, unique characters introduced through them, and to ban any and all new characters is to kill the series. If Nintendo has really learned its lesson from Sticker Star, they would do a complete 180 away from the sticker/card format and go back to the traditional RPG formula. As it appears, they intend to turn the Paper Mario series into a cookie cutter like the New Super Mario Bros. series, which is very disappointing.

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! (New 3DS / SNES)

NPC411

@World @AlexSora89, you're exactly right! While the overworld maps were extremely gorgeous and fun to explore, it was much more complicated than the previous two outings (e.g., fetch quests, Banana Bird challenges, limited-fuel barrel rocket). Two of the biggest mistakes were: 1) Swapping Diddy for Kiddy, who offered no benefit to the player aside from the rarely-used water-skipping and ground-pounding; and 2) Swapping Rambi for Ellie, who proved to be useless and frustrating aside from shooting water.

Rare also erred by lowering the enemy design quality, which made things feel much more foreign and generic. The environments themselves also felt rather uninspired and non-threatening aside from Mekanos (e.g., generic forest, random sawmill, average snow level), whereas previous environments really grabbed you (e.g., I'm jumping around lava in a volcano!, I'm swimming through a sunken pirate ship!, I'm getting boiled by green acid in a castle!).

Whether it was due to budgetary issues or creative minds moving on after DKC2, DKC3 just doesn't stand up to its predecessors. It's a fun enough outing, but the magic is missing.

@Kirk Great find! When I saw that picture with the Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda machines, I tried to Google for those particular cabinets but came up empty-handed. Now I know why!

Re: Preview: Preferring the Air in Star Fox Zero

NPC411

@Yorumi In a way, Expert Mode is slightly easier due to the increased enemy count, but it's also more challenging due to increased damage, increased wing fragility, and less power-ups. "Oh, so you've upgraded to the double blue Hyper lasers? Wouldn't it be a shame if you ran through this environmental hazard and lost your wings in one hit?"

Re: Preview: Preferring the Air in Star Fox Zero

NPC411

Why put in the five hidden medal mechanic? It's already tough enough to earn the hit count medals in each level (especially in Star Fox 64's Expert Mode), and the hit count challenges appeal to both completionists and casual players alike. Why shoehorn in a fetch quest mechanic that will prove more annoying than engaging?

The same sort of mentality took Yoshi's Woolly World from a fun, relaxing game to an annoying, repetitive game where you play the same level three or four times all the way through to find one hidden gem or one hidden flower that was not along the natural game path. We need less artificial difficulty and more challenges that fit into the natural flow of the game.

Re: Soapbox: It's too Early to Judge Paper Mario: Color Splash

NPC411

@Dr_Corndog I can assure you - Sticker Star is as bad as it's made out to be. The total dependence on buying and finding stickers in order to attack anything is frustrating. There are few hints (and in some cases no hints) as to what stickers work on what bosses, leading to wasting valuable stickers and taking an hour just to rebuild your inventory. I wish it was better.

Re: Splatoon Version 1.3.0 Update Due on 30th June, Gameplay Adjustments Detailed

NPC411

That's strange wording about the Inkstrike... if anything, the hitting after the clock runs out should be fixed. It should also be slightly more restricted in other ways, such as the ease of use or the amount of time it takes to launch.

The Kraken, on the other hand, doesn't really seem broken. Yes, it can be annoying, but it's no more annoying than the Inkstrike. Also, as others have mentioned, it's fairly easy to run from it in Squid Form.

The major things that should be nerfed are the fire rates on the Aerospray and .96 Gal. Going head-to-head with these can be extremely challenging unless you sneak up on them, and having two or three of them on one team can be pretty brutal to the other team. Oh, well, we're gonna keep playing regardless!

Re: Club Nintendo in North America to Remove Post-Play Survey Coins for Wii and DS Games

NPC411

There wouldn't be a problem with getting things registered in a timely manner if Club Nintendo would allow anything over 600 coins to go towards the next calendar year's gold and platinum status. We have tons of games waiting to be registered because anything over 600 coins won't count for next year, and the truth is that the platinum reward is usually better than anything Club Nintendo regularly offers. Are you reading this, Nintendo?
