@NinjaAceTrainer I haven't been to any competitions, but I know many who prefer motion (myself included). It boils down to preference; there's a bit of an edge for character manoeuvring with pro (which is still fine with motion with practice), but the curving of punches - especially the more curvy ones - is much better on the joy cons (for me at least)
I agree with a lot - especially with the legendaries and the feeling dropping from animal companions to battle machines.
Hopefully the rumours of a different battle system are true to help mix the formula a bit. Nintendo has seemed to be following a trend of change, and it would be cool if their highest grossing second party gets on board with that.
I'm probably going to get it the game anyway, but at least make this one more challenging!
I think that's the way to go: "different interests and skill sets". It certainly allows them to have a wider world insight to ideas going into concepts to integrate or capture in gaming.
I actually did some number crunching, and for the platform it was on, this game did very well as a fighter. Its sales numbers are comparable to the latest Tekken, SF, etc., and those are well established multi-platforms!
Man. As much as Retro set a new standard for DK games (2D platformers as a whole), this art makes me think it would be cool to see Playtonic take a stab at the next title (as I'm sure Retro is busy on something else)
@Heavyarms55 I would say healthy! I play online a lot and don't feel like I run into the same people, nor do I need to wait long to find someone. The skill level varies, but I find there's a good mix of ability out there.
I think lots of the hype seems to be lower simply because it has lots to compete with now (same year release as Splatoon 2, Zelda, and Mario); as a new IP it maybe could have done with an earlier release date so it could establish itself further before everything else jumped in (it's not like Nintendo fans are used to having so much so soon!). That said, the base that it does have is quite loyal.
Love the concept! Pardon me for referring to Wii music (which I totally think was overhated), but the idea of a music game that focuses primarily on creativity and making arrangements that you see fit really appeals to me. Hopefully the HD rumble kicks in to make the controls solid!
I really like that lots of the ARMS are getting faster! One of the critiques is that the action feels too slow, but I wonder if they meant to start it like that until people get used to the game more
Always good to see a new IP expand like this. I love the game, but despite the oozing of character that each fighter has, I don't feel like I know nearly as much about them as I would like to
Nice!! Keeps up with the pattern of looking nothing like anyone else, yet fitting right in. The weapons are cool editions, and the ability to block in mid-air is interesting.
In a way I'm kinda glad that Nintendo has had problems delivering my Splatoon 2 pre-order since it allows me to avoid the struggle balancing time!
Yeah, they previously said balancing will be biffs instead of nurfs... it would be nice to see Byte and Barc get some more umph! I guess they can't change too much about the concept, but maybe more HP for Barc or a stronger throw?
To me it just sounds strange... I mean is there a real reason for this? The only thing I can think of is that they want to have fresh new maps for each session... but couldn't they start with few and expand ?
... did anyone complain about how the game looked before they revealed the pixel count?
So long as the game is able to present the style it aims for and run smoothly, numbers don't bother me. Like they get at in the vid, I think for this game, rock solid 60fps is top priority to get the wet/fresh feel. I still say it's a win.
Right - on a non-related note, I ordered the limited edition of Zelda thinking it was the special edition (cause I'm a Canadian in the UK and didn't realise it was a Canada/US thing only), and now I have a figurine that is certainly nice, but I have no real place for. I was primarily getting the special edition for the case, so does anyone have the special edition feel like making a trade?
On a more related note: Switch is a blast - I have Zelda and FAST RMX, and have zero complaints. Can't wait for more in the next couple months, as I plan to get Pocket Rumble and have a download code for Yooka Laylee on the way
@Manjushri Technically you can't say there are no new courses when they created battle mode (I don't think the number of tracks in there was mentioned).
More than anything, I think the purpose of this is to offer a fantastic game to a wider audience than the Wii U and people who didn't get the DLC (which if you didn't, this is actually a decent deal). It could be argued as well that as an early effort, this demonstrates the multiplayer capabilities of the Switch in a way that was efficient for Nintendo to make, and still offers something for those that bought the game previously. While it sucks that there isn't more content for the loyals who bought it all when it first came out, it is an understandable business move - like how they HDd Zelda Windwaker and TP: a quick MK fix for old fans and a chance for those that didn't play the original. We aren't the target market for this.
Awesome! The one thing holding me back from the Wii U version is that I don't have time to just sit there and create... making them on the go is definitely possible.
@Einherjar yeah, I wasn't referring to the battle system in the bracket of creative things within the game (though I guess it is original).
I didn't mind the system as much as you seem to have, but what made the game worthwhile for me was wandering through the levels and enjoying the aesthetics and quirkiness of the game - both of which seem to be brought to a higher level in this entry.
Clearly not TYD, but they didn't try to be like it. It seems like a solid development from SS; say what you will about the battle system, but that entry had some very creative/charming moments and levels. From the footage, the humour is still there, and that's key to the franchise as well. Nobody can complain about the art style or music either. May need a little push to get me to buy it, but I'm optimistic!
Really liking Nekkoala! It's always exciting to see an animal that hasn't been pokemonised yet get added in. Definite Sleep is interesting too. I forgot to be curious as to what new abilities might spring up this gen.

To refer to generations and colours as the gameplay influence is also encouraging

Blue Ring Octolings is such a good team name (super poisonous octopus in Aus). They have my support!

Joycons seem like a no brainier to me... from all the hands on analysis I've heard/read, the motion is quite responsive, and it just looks fun!
