Re: Rumour: Nintendo May Have Caught The Pokémon Sword And Shield Leaker

@Burning_Bacon I haven't seen the list (nor do I want to), but I always like to see each Pokémon game as an opportunity to make new favourites. I make it a rule to myself that I never raise the same Pokémon two games in a row. I realise this may not fix how you want to play, and I wouldn't sell my way as a universal mentality that people should have, but it helps me enjoy things more

@Heavyarms55 I think they wanted to make Splatoon more competitive (from the switch reveal trailer) but just didn't really know how to manage something like that. I think the 4v4 format of it makes it more difficult to do that, especially since it was a launch window title and had a limited install base when it first launched.

Obviously from the pic, I wish ARMS more rep too. It really is an amazing - admittedly odd - fighting game.

I don't think it's reasonable to think a Pokemon game will ever be completely balanced; in what world would a Delibird be as viable as a Dragonite? I'm curious though for this entry though: they seem to be indicating that they will be introducing more measures to make the field more balanced so a higher percentage will be viable.

Unpopular opinion, but I actually think the no-national-dex call will help the balancing too.

@Dog (#150)
If you would care to enlighten me on how easy that process is, please expand on how doable it would be. Any form of writing takes lots of time to do to a good standard, and the same goes for animation. To interrupt the narrative by stretching it for months is never a good look and would not do well for the show as a whole; it would have to be a whole season in order for the time slots to fit correctly and not cut into what they already have planned for gen 8, and you can't have a year of "filler".

... Just so I'm getting this straight, you're saying that a majority of people are skipping these symbol battles on a game that has not even released yet, and because of that, are underleveled for later parts of the game?

If this is the case, that's their own fault for not actually playing the game imo. I would actually have a bigger problem if you could skip most of the battles and somehow come out on top anyway.

Regardless, is this really a reason to quit on a franchise???

Re: Nintendo Intends To Create The Next Generation Of Controllers

Minfinity

@Haywired I don't read this as strictly motion controls for all things, more so that they want something that allows for greater immersion into the games through controls, that would also allow for more tactile feedback for more standard control experiences.

Nintendo is innovative, but not stupid. They know that top seller games like Smash Bros and Splatoon (the latter albeit using motion, which now makes shooters that don't use it feel clunky to me) that work best on more standard schemes, but they also like to give options on ones like Mario Kart, ARMS, and Mario Odyssey that can be played either way.

@LordGeovanni their statement is that they aren't random in the sense that you aren't forced into a battle:
"You can also trigger battles by running into the ! icon when it pops up in patches of tall grass"
These are still random in that you don't know what you found, but you can opt out of them if you don't wish to take part. Basically saving you the battle animations and skipping to 'run away' if you're in a rush.

@Silly_G
I think a statement like this is way too strong for how little we actually know about the game.

They haven't said how many will be in the final game, much less who isn't going to be. If the number of pokemon alone is what you define as content in a pokemon game, then yes, there will be less. If you define content as more elaborate towns/areas, we seem to be getting heaps more.

As far as delaying goes, they don't really have a choice since they run on the timetable of the anime and card game; it's not just about the video game.

For the record, I'm not saying this will be a perfect game, but I don't think it's time for pitchforks yet either

Re: Warped Metaverse Is A Promising 3D Action-Adventure Raising Funds To Shine On Switch

To be fair with Kickstarter games (as I see distrust is already present), there are a number of reasons a game can go late. For most of the games I have funded (4 at this point), one reason they went overtime was because they hit so many stretch goals that their previous target was out of the question if they wanted to do a good job on it.
I think it's worth noting that these teams mostly lack the understanding of reasonable deadlines to set out, and if you think about it, non-crowdfunding developers have the luxury of not needing to supply a deadline until they set it out in the public: I imagine is done when they are far enough along to guarantee it, not at early stages of development. I have learned to just to go in for the project if it's a cool idea, and trust it will pan out whenever it does. It will make your experience less stressful.

Re: Competition: Win A Set Of Third Editions Books, Including Zelda, Dark Souls And Final Fantasy

I hate to be unoriginal, but I'm at a spot between the Hyrule Historia and Dark Horse's compilation for Splatoon. Ultimately I probably have to go with the former.

I'm a bit of a writer and what I have gotten so much out of is the notes and design processes taken when creating the worlds and characters. Even just looking at the concept art and thinking about how the minute details are used to speak volumes and create the image/tone they want, and considering how different the turnout would be if they went with one of the alternatives: I find it so fascinating!

The same definitely goes for the Splatoon book, but HH captured such a deep and rich variety in its pages that I've gone back to many times to learn how to create and operate a living world.
