@manu0 Hmm, yes I suppose. But I just feel customer trust (rather than faith) is what Nintendo should be aiming for. I actually agree with what you say to be honest, but I wish Nintendo wouldn't put themselves against the wall like this all the time. The fact they don't do things that are such common practice now by the competition really frustrates me. I want switch to do well, of course I do. And I hope initial sales are strong enough to garner third party attention. Then, frankly, it won't matter what specs the system has because third parties will find a way of getting their software running on the Switch (much like what happened with the Wii). But as it stands I can't see that happening. What I can see happening is, in five to ten years time we will see the next Mario on Playstation. Or worse, through shear pride, Nintendo will drive themselves into the ground and disappear for good. And I really don't want that.
Look, I really think the Switch will be a fantastic handheld/console hybrid. And for me, I'm sure it will be a worthwhile purchase. But only the most hardcore Nintendo apologist would deny that there are glaring concerns if the system is to do as well as Nintendo think the Switch will do. This is the EXACT SAME conversation people were having before the Wii U came out. Except I was the one standing up for Nintendo back then. Now I'm older and wiser and if Nintendo wish to stay relevant, and not develop games for ps5/ Xbox 5, they need to do things other companies do as standard now, like RELEASE THE ACTUAL SPECS FOR THE SYSTEM! I love Nintendo and I don't want to see them fail.
@Anti-Matter Think of it more in terms of whether or not it will reach developers expectations. Nintendo can't go on just releasing their games on their system all the time. I mean the Wii U has some truly fantastic games for it, but only a fool would deny that the system was a complete failure commercially. And a majority of that failure can be levied at the technical shortcomings of the system. If the Switch can still only pump out games on the same level, or realistically a little better ( higher resolution, smoother framers) then a lot of development will once again skip Nintendo's system in place of the much more commercially viable Xbox and Playstation. Don't get me wrong, I love Nintendo and I've said several times on here that I am soon ready to eat my words and gleefully admit I was very very wrong. But something tells me I'm not and Nintendo will have another 15-20 million selling console on their hands.
@Jessica286 I'm not trying to "win" anything. I'm just stating that I think we will never see anything on Switch that technically surpasses what could be achieved on Wii U. And Nintendo not releasing specs (again) means my opinion can't be disproved. Only time will tell. Yes, I'm certain the Switch will have some amazing exclusives like Zelda (oh, actually that's on Wii U...), Mario Odyssey, xenoblade 2 and Shin Megami Tensei 5. That's why I've pre ordered mine. But that's not the point of this discussion. The point of this discussion is what the tech inside of the Switch is. And differing architecture or not, at the moment all we are seeing are things that could technically be achieved on Wii U.
I don't "win" arguments, I'm not 12. I have discussions and debates.
@Anti-Matter That's totally fine! I've pre ordered a switch myself and I'm really looking forward to it. I love Nintendo games as they have that certain Nintendo charm. But my point is that on a tech level, the Switch is just an overclocked Wii U, and anyone who thinks they will see a dramatic increase in technical presentation will be sorely disappointed. And my bugbear is that Nintendo refuse to share the tech specs with people, which is shady and misleading to say the least. People need to understand they are not getting a big upgrade over what the Wii U was capable of.
@Anti-Matter It's different despite being the same...ooookaaaaay. No. Look, of course there are differences to the Wii U. The Wii, by your logic, was different to the Gamecube but it's now confirmed that the Wii was overclocked Gamecube. So I will say this again. Until I see evidence that the tech inside the Switch is vastly more powerful than the Wii U, able to run CURRENT GEN games like Rise of the Tombraider, Battlefield One, Final Fantasy Xv etc, I am absolutely convinced that Nintendo are selling us a portable Wii U. Oh, sorry, a portable Wii U that's region free 😁
@Anti-Matter But was the gamelad portable? Yes it was. The Switch is just an extension of that. Could superpower R run on Wii U? Of course it could. You see what I'm getting at? The Switch is to Wii U what Wii was to Gamecube. And until I see a game that couldn't possibly run on the Wii U due to the extra power of the Switch, I'm going to take my theory as a confirmed fact.
@Galactus_33 Tell me how it's different? Zelda? It's on Wii U. Mario Kart? It's on Wii U. Splatoon? It looks EXACTLY like the Wii U game. The fact it's portable? The Wii U was portable to a degree and the Switch is just a natural evolution of that design. Tell me something that makes the Switch completely different to what the Wii U was. Please. I'll wait...
@marko Let's face it. At this point in our lives Nintendo could just make up some "alternative facts". At least that would be something! Yep...I went there 😀😀😀
This unwillingness to release proper specs further cements my theory that the Switch is just a handheld overclocked Wii U. Just like the Wii was an overclocked Gamecube
These are all pretty much common knowledge. These aren't specs for Petes sake! How much ram does it have? How fast is it in comparison to the Wii U? And before anyone says "but Nintendo don't release specs", well they should. Pretty much every other company dealing in technical hardware does, from consoles to pc, to blummin smart phones! Why the actual heck doesn't Nintendo do this. It's just pure stupidity.
This is much healthier news! Fantastic. Will be double dipping on this (have it for ps4), buying Binding of Isaac and of course, Breath of the Wild on launch day. Now about that Fast RMX coming launch day rumour...
@CircuitWrangler3 I almost feel like I owe you an apology because recentlyni have been one of the many sliding into depression over the Switch!
All joking aside though, while I still have my concerns, im very happy to be getting a Switch on launch. The one thing that really frustrates me is peoples complaints about the price of the system and its accessories. It is VERY competitive with the Ps4 and xbox one. In fact, on balance its a whole lot cheaper.
I agree completely with the message of this article. Sure, absolutely, a lot of publishers are money grabbing monsters with little care for the consumer unless its goimg to line their pockets with gold. But that simply means its Nintendos responsibility to ensure there is money to be made in developing for the Switch. Whether the Switch will be that success or not is anyones guess and no one can predict what will happen over the next 12-24 month. But if the Switch is a financial success you can bet your bottom dollar we will be seeing things like Boom blox: Switch, Fifa, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Watch Dogs, Assassins Creed and im sure plenty of other support from publishers who want a peice of the Switch success pie. Wishful thinking? Perhaps, but we will see.
@westman98 I see what you are getting at dude, and I largely agree. But if you thinkbwe are getting Xenoblade 2 this year you are out of your mind! Thats will be a Xmas 2018 im fairly certain. Really hope im wrong, but considering Xenoblade Chronicles X only came out Xmas 2015, development for X2 has probably only been going around a year. Games like this take around three years at the very least.

The Switch is £280, comes with two controllers. So already its beating the competition on price, but okay, for arguments sake lets add a pro controller. Thats another £60. Add a game which is £40-50 in most places now.
So for a console, two controllers and a game for the ps4 is £460. For a console, THREE controllers and a game is £370-£390. Thats £70-90 LESS than the competition. Oh but the switch is portable, so lets add £150 for a ps vita and...oh...nothing, to the Switch. Thats £610 vs £370-£390. There is no competition. The Switch is VERY competitive and to bring it to the subject at hand, I feel could easily hit 40 mil in its lifetime.
@AlexOlney Im almost certain the voice acting will be for all the major cut scenes ONLY. I mean, has Nintendo actually confirmed that there is full voice acting in the game? I didnt see any sort of lip syncing and its possible the voice over was for the trailer only?
@Slim1999 The Wii U had a very strong start mate. They sold out before launch too. The true test is going to be at christmas. If they can sell a few million over the holiday period then that will bring third parties on board. We will see.
Ps. Not to be arguementative, but that 2 million that Reggie fils Aime talked about is worldwide. And units are readily available still over here in the UK. Im sure they will sell two million in March though.
@OzHuski I argued this with my mates at the Wii U launch and I will argue it now: After several years I woukd argue the Wii U has just as many must haves as any of the conpetition. Mario 3d world, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, Tokyo Mirrage sessions, Bayonetta 1+2, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Captain Toad. Im sure there are a few others im forgetting. My point is Ps4 and Xbox, when you slice away the filler, have similar numbers in terms of true must haves for the system.
So please dont think I hate Nintendo guys. Im just a concerned fan who wishes the very best for them.
@AlexSora89 Absolutely mate. Im calling it now, Breath of the Wild will go done in history as one of the most finely crafted peices of entertainment ever. I mean im buying the Switch PURELY to play the best version of this game, oh and to get the collectors edition! But thats just it. Breath of the Wild is the ONLY game doing this. Ps4 and xbox, even at launch had several of these cinematic games made for them. Of course me and you will argue that Zelda craps all over the other games. But to the general consumer thinking if buying a console they will see ONE amazing game for the switch and several for the conpetition. And they will overlook the Switch. But hey im ready to eat my words. I am Soooooo ready to eat my words! Time will tell...
@ElGrego Very well put matey. We are indeed all Nintendo fans here. I mean if I had to make a top ten favourite games ever, im sure 5 or six of them would be Nintendo games or games made exclusively for Nintendo. (Xenoblade Chronicles X, best JRPG ever, just saying...).
@OzHuski It wasnt me who suggested selling the switch without the dock. I think that would be disasterous and muddy a lot of peoples understanding of the system. Well anyway, im no market expert so who knows what works and what doesn't? Just my opinion. I just want Nintendo to do well and attain the popularity they had with the Wii and the Snes.
Put it this way guys. If I only played Nintendo consoles, then last year I would have missed out on Doom, Tomb Raider, Colin Mcrae Rally, Dark Souls 3, Overwatch, Battleborn, Call of Duty Infinite warefare, Battlefield 1, Fifa 2017, Pro evolution Soccer 2017, Assassins Creed Ezio Collection, Inside, Banner Saga 1+2, The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine, Fallout 4 Far Harbour, Skyrim Special edition and lots lots more I cant think of. Forget about graphics and just think about all those games. I dont see this year changing on missing third party support this year. And missing out on some of those games is a complete deal breaker to many gamers. see what im getting at. Nintendo have created a cool concept at the cost of all those games above. And with the Switch its looking like they have done exactly the same.
@AlexSora89 Agree 100%. Just think of the next Metroid with the writing and graphical fidelity of Uncharted or The Last of Us! They could STILL do that with the Switch, sure, but inevitably it will be compared and contrasted and put up against graphical masterpeices like Uncharted 4 will fail hard for a lot of people. Playing devils advocate for a moment though, Breath of the Wild has to be one of the most beautiful and cinematic games ive ever seen. So I guess we will see what the future holds...
@Anti-Matter Ha ha what? I wasnt implying gamers are couch potatoes. Just that many gamers just want a standard gaming system and a standard controller to play the most diverse range of software possible. Not just first party software, but third party too.
@roboshort And precisely because of the way they are marketting the thing will turn off many. IS turning off many because just being abke to play the next Mario and Zelda isnt enough for people. Its a chicken and egg situation, much like the Wii U had. Where gamers wont buy the system due to lack of games. And developers wont make games for the system due to lack of popularity. Marketed as a handheld first with the ability to play on tv second, I feel, would make more sense. But I will be thrilled to eat a huge dose of humble pie and happily admit I was waaay in the wrong if the Switch does get the support it deserves.
@cfgk24 Its not so much about an exact number I want them to make as a desire to see them succeed and even beat the competition. And at the moment, they are a distant third. It shoukd be like that. Im sure some hard core fans would scoff at this, but can you imagine if Nintendo made a console that was, say, twice as poweful as Scorpio or anything else in the Console market at the time. With just a standard, but lovely feeling Pro controller. Nintendo would be able to make the Zeldas and the Marios and Third parties could easily develop the Assassins Creeds and the Call Of Duties. They would DOMINATE the competition. They really would. Instead we get all these "inovations" that, sure have exciting concepts like motion control or portability, but take several steps back in areas that will turn off many gamers who just want a game, a controller and a sofa to play it on.
@cfgk24 Right there with you mate, but most people want those third party cinematic experiences. People like me and you comprise a very small percentage of the gamer demographic and thats why the Wii U failed comercially. I want Nintendo to be the giant they once were rather than the secondary console manufacturers they have seemingly become.
@ElGrego Well perhaps in the UK they put rubbish batteries in them because thats not my experience with them! Im actually quite excited to see what this hd rumble haptic feedback is like. Apparently when playing Sonic mania the pad jolts in the direction you dash, and if sonic hits the ground hard the pad jolts downwards. Sounds awesome and immersive. But given the choice of that or spending money on developing a powerful graphics card for the system...
@ElGrego Ha ha not trolling if its funny and true dude! Though to be fair 2.5 to 6 hours is pretty much standard for mobile devices nowadays. Still rubbish I know but its rubbish a lot have learnt to live with. Try watching a movie on your I phone and watch that battery go!
Again I have to stress, im excited for the switch. And if I think of it as a successor to 3ds (It is despite what Nintendo are desperately and stupidly trying to tsay otherwise) then I feel much happier about it. Marketting the switch as the most powerful handheld ever made I think would drum up much wider hype for the system. They could even have the tagline "Now you are playing with Portable power". And the advertising that this revolutionary handheld can be played on the tv...I just thinknthat would be much better than going up against PS4 and Xbox and losing terribly before its even gone on sale...
@ElGrego Its a simple fact that if you dont like Zelda, there is litterally NO POINT in getting a Switch on Launch day. That is really really really bad. Every other console launch over the last 2 decades has always had at least two or three must buys. And while Zelda is absolutely a must buy to me. Not everyone is a fan.
@Nintendian Yeah I know, I was using the term PS4 as a broad platform as PS4 on its own is more powerful than any other console. Was easier to type rather than convoluting my soap box moment!
@Moroboshi876 Its like this: Graphics DONT matter. They dont, they really really dont. If a game plays beautifully, it is loved. Its as simple as that. HOWEVER!!! In order to run these beautifully played games a system needs to have the OOpmh to enable developers to make said beautifully played game. Add on top of that the need for power in order to run third party titles that are obviously developed with the most popular hardware in mind (clue: its a ps4, the most powerful console at the moment) then you realise that, yes, graphics dont matter, but being able to run games at an acceptable level does. Now I dont have a degree in game development and to be honest im pretty much a tech noob, and I just put into one paragraph what the problem with Nintendos thinking is. So if some bozo like me can deduce that, why on Earth is Nintendo having such a hard time grasping what is needed to be done in order to succeed?!?!
Why is it so hard for Nintendo to get it right? Do they really think a "wide footprint" of Wii U gamers, 14 million of them, is better than the current 60 million PS4's sold to core audiences? Look I will love my Switch, I really will. Super Mario oddysey, Zelda, Splatoon two and Xenoblade all look to be some of the best in their genres. And im certain I wont be the only one. But I will be one amongst a few million who enjoy the switch. Where as Sony and Microsoft will yet again mop up tens upon tens of millions of gamers with their diverse third party line up. If Switch sells more than 20 million in its life cycle, I will be very surprised. And as a big Nintendo fan, that hurts.
Aaaaand here we go with yet another few years of wild speculation and unrealistic wishful thinking.... What?! A new Nintendo Direct? I just KNOW they will unveil Fire Emblem Warriors, the Fire Emblem Mobile title, a new Fire Emblem JRPG featuring Cloud and Lightning from Final Fantasy, a Fire Emblem gardening simulator, a Fire Emblem Karting extravaganza, a Fire Emblem themed exclusive Nintendo Switch witch will have all the above games on launch day. A brand new Fire Emblem catering service where you eat on Fire Emblem shaped plates. A new Fire Emblem fighting game, a new Fire Emblem.......
My own opinion is very polorized, nevermind anyone elses. I love the concept and look of the hardware, but wished it had power more in line with xbox and Ps4. I simply can't wait for Breath if Wild at launch but then at launch its looking like that wilk be the only gane I buy for the system for the first few month. There are going to be some truly amazing games for the system, Mario Oddysey, Yooka Laylee, Splatoon 2, Xenoblade 2, New Shin Megami Tensei, Fire Emblem Warriors and loads more im sure. But all these games are a long time away from release. This is why we really need more information. The system is six weeks from release and we still know so little. What is the Online infastructure going to be like? What are the specs? Yes I know Nintendo never release them but that doesn't change the fact they should. What Eshop releases will there be? I feel hyped for the Switch, but im just tired of being mostly in the dark when both Sony and Microsoft are so transparent with their systems.
@AlexSora89 I must admit I dont understand these people who buy a system for a certain game. If you are only buying console Y for game Z, why would you buy the system BEFORE game Z is out? Only to then complain if game Z doesn't come to the system? It makes no sense to me. Sure, I bought a Wii U with Breath of the Wild in mind. But now its coming to Switch I will get it for that. Does that mean I wasted my money on the Wii U? No, because I have the several other amazing games that made the Wii U worth it. If I was going to be vuying a Wii U with ONLY Breath if the Wild in mind, then I still wouldnt have bought a Wii U yet.
@Snader Actually thats a good point. It is a Wii U port after all. Its just we haven't seen anything that goes beyond much what the Wii U can do. Id like to see what the Dragon Quest heroes ports look like. Because with several hundred characters on screen on the Ps4 DQH1 looked great. Id be very curious to see how the switch version holds up.
@Vegaphil I agree, Digital Foundry has a bad rep for jumping the gun a bit. I remember when they did a framerate test for Halo 5 and complained that the FPS was sub 60 (about 40-45 fps). But this was the E3 build they were testing and they were talking like the game already WAS a complete mess. When the game came out it ran at a constant 60fps and Digital Foundry made a video on it being one of the best looking games for Xbox one.
In other words they judge unfinished builds of games and they then flip flop fir views. I have my criticisms and concerns for the Switch but deciding your purchase on the back of someone elses opinion is silly.
A 0.4 gb size difference between the Switch and Wii U version of Zelda kinda proves to me that the Switch is going to be to Wii U what the Wii was to Gamecube. People expecting Switch games to look significantly better than Wii U are in for a big dissapointment. And thats including me...damn.

Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
@Anti-Matter Ha ha what? I wasnt implying gamers are couch potatoes. Just that many gamers just want a standard gaming system and a standard controller to play the most diverse range of software possible. Not just first party software, but third party too.
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
@Megas Erm...thanks... 😳😳😳😳😳 Lol
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
@ElGrego Ezactly. Hence why im certain the Switch will be history repeating itself and it will be the Wii U all over again.
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
@Megas Thats exactly what I mean dude...
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
@Nintendian Yeah I know, I was using the term PS4 as a broad platform as PS4 on its own is more powerful than any other console. Was easier to type rather than convoluting my soap box moment!
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
Further proof that this is Wii U 2.0
Re: Reminder: A Fire Emblem Nintendo Direct is Coming on 18th January
@ryando Or: Fire Emblem Awakening Total. F.E.A.T edition
Re: Reminder: A Fire Emblem Nintendo Direct is Coming on 18th January
Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Switch Plan is Starting to Take Shape
Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Will Require a 3GB Install on Wii U
Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Will Require a 3GB Install on Wii U
@Snader Actually thats a good point. It is a Wii U port after all. Its just we haven't seen anything that goes beyond much what the Wii U can do. Id like to see what the Dragon Quest heroes ports look like. Because with several hundred characters on screen on the Ps4 DQH1 looked great. Id be very curious to see how the switch version holds up.
Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Will Require a 3GB Install on Wii U
Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Will Require a 3GB Install on Wii U
A 0.4 gb size difference between the Switch and Wii U version of Zelda kinda proves to me that the Switch is going to be to Wii U what the Wii was to Gamecube. People expecting Switch games to look significantly better than Wii U are in for a big dissapointment. And thats including me...damn.
