Re: Video: Get a Good Look at Infinite, the New Villain in Sonic Forces

MarioPhD

That definitely made me cringe. I don't see why they think a video game about a cartoon hedgehog needs to have such convoluted plots about the apocalypse and "edgey" villains.... but they just keep doing it. Just..... make the game fun. And make the plot serviceable for the gameplay.

I haven't played Forces, obviously, so I can't say anything with any certainty, but I keep getting worse and worse feelings about this one.....

Re: R.B.I. Baseball 17 Steps Up To The Plate On Switch This September

MarioPhD

@Angelic_Lapras_King What I wouldn't give for Madden on my Switch. I would play the ever-living heck out of it. Madden 13 is STILL my most-played title on Wii U, and even though I had it since launch, and it's a pretty crappy port, I still love the game. If I could bring a fully-featured Madden game with me anywhere? Oh man. Heaven.

Re: '90s Super GP Will Be Power Sliding On To Switch Soon

MarioPhD

Man, Nicalis has been BUSY with Switch publishing, huh? They're looking to be a noteworthy portion of the third party support for Switch in 2017 at this point. They started to grate on me with Tyrone acting like an idiot on Twitter, but it seems that now that the Switch is out there, doing well, and apparently treating Nicalis well, they're all in and have quit whining. Glad to get good games coming without the baggage attached to them.

Re: Review: Splatoon 2 (Switch)

MarioPhD

I honestly thought Splatoon was the title that defined the Wii U for me, and honestly, I think even the original game was a 10/10. Now it's back and even better and people refuse to believe someone could think it's a 10? All I can say is this:

Who. Cares.

Love the game, refuse to think it's a 10, find it mediocre, hate it; I couldn't care less. I'm hyped for this, and I'm confident I'll view this as a 10/10 as well. I don't see why everyone's so hung up on Alex giving his opinion...... On a review.... Which is an opinion.

Heaven forbid someone have a dissenting perspective on a game, be it on the positive or negative end of the spectrum; everyone loses their dang minds.

Why do people seem to demand uniformity in review scores? Every game is either a 10/10 and we need to burn the witches who disagree, or it could never be a 10, and anyone who thinks so is posting clickbait, a fanboy, or is being paid off. Man, slap a number on something and all reasoning goes out the window for some folks.

Re: Deals: Amazon Prime Day 2017 Round Up

MarioPhD

@antdickens We did get Lego City for $30 last night on a Lightning Deal, so I almost bit, but the promise of more or better deals stopped me. Prime Day tends to suck for my shopping needs/wants, but we'll see!

Re: Deals: Amazon Prime Day 2017 Round Up

MarioPhD

@antdickens I definitely get it, and appreciate your response to my light ribbing. I don't mind, since I know some folks aren't as deal-hungry as me, so this would be convenient for them. Hope they add some decent Nintendo stuff soon.

For everyone else, I strongly recommend the NintenDeal account on Twitter. They pick up on just about everything good out there Nintendo-related!

Re: WWE 2K18 is Confirmed for Nintendo Switch

MarioPhD

@therealgamer People..... who want it..... care.....? If you're essentially Nintendo-only for your gaming experiences, as I have been, you haven't seen a WWE game since they were published by THQ, and it came out for the Wii. That's a full generational gap for both handhelds and home consoles. Even if you don't care about the game personally, it shows that major publishers are willing to start taking risks bringing "AAA" games to the system. We got exactly 1 2K-published game on Wii U, which was NBA 2K13. We're already topping that on Switch. This is uniformly good news for anyone who wants to see more "AAA" titles on the Switch. Publishers are at least trying, and if they succeed, more games will come. How the heck could this be construed as a bad thing?

Re: Music: Check Out Sonic Forces' Opening Theme, Feasturing Hoobastank's Douglas Robb

MarioPhD

@Grandpa_Pixel Yeah, and now that they don't need to worry about moving consoles by being cutting edge and keeping up with Nintendo/Mario, I can't help but think it's a fruitless effort to try to force something to work that simply won't. Looking at the comments section on the YouTube video Alex posted about his Sonic Forces preview, however, it's pretty clear that there's a legion of people with such a fierce devotion to Sonic, even when he's empirically at his worst, that voices of reason don't seem to matter. He's like the Transformers of gaming; no matter how poorly critically received his games are, no matter how mechanically broken they are, clearly enough people throw money at it to keep making them and learn nothing new.

Re: First Impressions: Running Scared from Sonic Forces

MarioPhD

@AlexOlney Seeing the comments on the YouTube video's page just make me sad, so I can only imagine what it's like on your end. It'll never cease to amaze me that the people complaining that you've judged it too harshly too soon are also the same ones who have never played it at all, and therefore base their opinions on nothing. The logic there is hilarious.

Re: Sonic Mania’s Reception Will Determine the Direction of the Series

MarioPhD

@idrawrobots My thoughts exactly. I guess it's good that they're trying to listen to fans, but they seem so utterly directionless and creatively bankrupt that it's painful. It's one thing for a company and group of creatives to go through the slump-- Nintendo's had plenty-- but never with the perilous lows of Sonic Team, and pretty universally coming back with a massive bang, as seen with Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey.

Re: Random: Internet Reacts Badly To The New Snake Pass Menu Icon

MarioPhD

I see it as being pretty inoffensive, but you know, opinions and the sort. I do agree that the white border makes it stick out in a weird way on Switch, but as noted above, it has literally zero impact on gameplay, so I'm not sure why anyone cares quite that much about it. Bad box art never ruined a game for me if the content itself was good, so I fail to see why an icon would be any different. A bad first impression? Maybe. Ruining the game and causing someone to delete it? Yeah, that's a bit extreme.

Re: Vaccine Will Seek to Cure Its Ailments This Week on the Switch eShop

MarioPhD

@gatorboi352 "It's the best version of this game thanks to its portability."

Claim: The game is better because it is now portable.

"People really need to stop this false rhetoric with Switch versions of games. Being able to take it on the go doesn't improve the game any, just makes it easier to play away from the TV."

Response: The game is not any better due to it being portable.

Unless we're debating the meaning of the phrase "value proposition," then I don't see another way of reading this than you telling someone their feelings about a game are wrong.

Re: Vaccine Will Seek to Cure Its Ailments This Week on the Switch eShop

MarioPhD

Shocking negativity around here for this one. I'm excited by the prospect of this being portable as I feel roguelike titles benefit from not requiring lengthy sit-down sessions. I would have loved this on New 3DS, but I'm much more interested with it on Switch so I get a mix of home and portable options to fit a run into my day whenever I can. This is one I think I'll definitely get at some point now that it's not tethered to a home console.

Re: Review: GoNNER (Switch eShop)

MarioPhD

Only played a bit, but loving it so far! I adore the art style and music, and the gameplay is already coming together for me.

I can also say that this is the sort of game I got used to seeing and thinking "This looks really interesting, creative, and quirky.... I assume it's Playstation-only. Rats...." Same goes for a title like Tumbleseed. Nintendo is finally getting creative, colorful, polished indie titles that normally would have only ever seen their audience on other platforms. That alone is worthy of celebration and support as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Psyonix Studio Lead Discusses the Porting Process of Rocket League

MarioPhD

I assumed it was built with UE4 for some reason, so this explains the delay in getting it out. This will 100% be a day one buy for me, as it's been high on my Switch wish list for some time now! Heck, seeing it introduced in that little montage at the start of the E3 spotlight was enough to make me really happy with the whole show!
