@ShadJV True! But you could also easily fly away from said criminal! But yeah.... I think the uses of invisibility are more contrived than flight. Not that there are none, but I'd have to dig. Haha.
I always talk through my Splatfest team with my wife since I think the Splatfest topics are usually generally interesting versions of a Would You Rather question. Once I realized I couldn't think of a non-perverted, non-useless, or illegal application for invisibility I felt obligated to choose Team Flight. I'll be on Pearl's side for the first time. Good luck out there everyone!
Without wishing to get into a stupid debate here (I've already smashed the Ignore button on a few folks in this thread to avoid that), what I will say is that for anyone not noticing the framerate issues with Overcooked (or any game): it doesn't make you somehow superior to those it serves as a distraction to. We play games with inputs and our eyes, and both of those are affected by a game running poorly. If you don't notice? Great. Enjoy! But don't pretend that it makes you somehow better than everyone else, or that they're just being whiny; you just don't see/notice what they do.
@bimmy-lee I've watched a few other gaming docs on Netflix and I think Indie Game The Movie is the best of the bunch by a lot. I loved the music and style, and I really felt for all the developers and their struggles. It's really well done. Enjoy it when you can!
@bimmy-lee I think it's really wonderful. I get where a predisposed cynic might be inclined to see it as a bunch of nerds whining about things, but if you're at all interested in game development, the indie gems Fez, Super Meat Boy, or Braid, I think it's beyond worth your time. It has a lot of twists and turns in the stories of how the games make it to market and critical/financial success. It goes through waves of being on Netflix and not, but when it is, definitely check it out! There's also a "DLC" supplemental movie (Indie Game: Life After) with more footage from after the other one and with smaller stories of more devs, but without seeing the "real" one first, I don't think it'll work nearly as well. It's not quite a sequel, but it does pick up where the other one left off. Both are interesting, though! The music from Jim Guthrie (the whole soundtrack, honestly) is pure magic as well. Check it out on Spotify if you like atmospheric gaming music; that soundtrack alone got me into game-based music/chiptunes and the sort.
EDIT: Just checked, and it is indeed up now in North America; both films are on there! Definitely give them a look! I watched them with my wife who doesn't care about games at all and she even quite liked it.
@bimmy-lee I enjoyed watching Indie Game: The Movie for that reason as well. Regardless to what anyone may think of Phil Fish and his persona, it was a bit heartbreaking when he said something to the tune of "I've been so close to it for so long, I can't tell if it's good or not anymore." This was done by a similarly small team, and I'm sure they came to feel the same way about it. It does all come together beautifully in Sonic Mania's case, though.
And to think that people thought there was no way that the PC version was delayed to add polish to it...... I mean, the hiccups are intensely minor for me, so I couldn't care less, but still; very few, if any, games wouldn't benefit from at least a tiny bit more polish. I imagine they were only able to keep the August 15th date on consoles by focusing their efforts there, requiring a push back for the PC version.
I can't help but feel bad for the devs. I mean, releasing a shoddy game is never excusable, but this feels like a scrappy, indie team that put this together makes me want to support it...... but it doesn't seem likely to be a good one. Whenever I can grab it for about $10-$15 I'll definitely be interested, but as a full retail game? Again, I admire the ambition from a small team, but it seems to have not panned out well.
@Tibob I'd buy Fez again in a heartbeat. Shame Phil Fish went off the deep end and won't be making the planned sequel, but regardless to what I think of him, that was a mesmerizing game.
@Radbot42 Well, that IS coming. I'm not thrilled that The End is Nigh will be $30 because it's also coming out at retail, but still, we'll have it sometime this year!
Barring catastrophic reviews, Sonic Mania for me! I love the style and would like to see Sonic not suck. I do wish the soundtrack were done by Hyper Potions, since I adore the trailer music (and now, pretty much everything from Hyper Potions), but I'll settle for the retro Genesis sound they've got going on.
@gaga64 I noticed that this seems like it's just a random Amiibo scan of materials, and I guess they're going to just keep doing that....? Maybe so that they'll be able to give something to the people without Amiibo...?
@wyzworld76 it hadn't occurred to me that Slime-san was an assault on the eyes until another poster mentioned it..... now I can totally see it, and in fact, I'm stunned I didn't notice before! It can be a bit garish, but still, it's mechanically rock-solid, so my brain has forgiven it for the strain it's placed upon my eyes!
And save for a few....... eccentric.... folks, this is a good place to be and discuss Nintendo-based stuff! I feel like places like Neogaf are a bit more..... intense.... than I'd ever care to deal with. I love games and Nintendo, but some of them take it all a bit TOO seriously.
@wyzworld76 The $30 price tag on Switch will definitely factor into how I view Slime-san and The End is Nigh in comparison. I like that Nicalis is bringing more physical games to the Switch, but when it leads to having to pay double (or more) what I'd expect to pay for an indie title, it can be frustrating.
@Kalmaro I'd compare it very favorably to Super Meat Boy! Relatively short levels, good challenge, lots of precision wall-jumping, lots of interesting iteration on obstacles and mechanics as you progress, and a ton of platforming goodness! Not that there's a ton of competition, but I feel safe saying this is the best pure platformer on the Switch..... Though I'm not sure it really has any competition, since I see titles like Shovel Knight, Shantae, and GoNNER as being more combat-focused than this is. I'm in World 2, and it's all platforming all the time so far! Loving it!
Loved it at launch, and it's even better now! Definitely check it out if you're on the fence! It's gorgeous, truly refined, and has Switch-exclusive features in addition to going on sale.... What more could you ask for?
Got Slime-san; loving Slime-san. It's a whole lot like Super Meat Boy with enough quirks and style to make it its own thing (slowing time, objects you can phase through only while slowing time, double jumps after wall jumping, etc.). If you're interested and like relatively challenging 2d pixel art platformers, it looks like (for the asking price, certain ly) this one's tough to top!
I'd take new versions of all of those, honestly! Batman, FF12, an AC collection, or anything else they can dream up! The Switch and its portability make ports a much more intriguing prospect to me than they normally would be when they're just a minor facelift.
If they rebalance it well for a one-time purchase, price it right, and it runs/plays well, I'm in! I could deal with a less serious racer that's not Mario Kart.
I know the odds have to be 1% at best, but I'll keep hoping for a full-on port of Persona 5, as I love JRPGs, I've never played a Personal game, and that one has been hailed as a masterpiece. I'd definitely settle for a port of Tokyo Mirage Sessions for the Switch, though!
Yikes. I can't imagine how downgrading to 900p for a shot at even coming close to 30 fps wasn't their choice for launch, with a possible resolution/fps bump once they got a bit more optimization done. That would have let them launch on time without it running so poorly and simply improve over time behind the scenes. I feel like they could also drop down things like shadows and textures a touch, as DF points out that they're in line with the PC version, which is hardly a logical choice when it's running as poorly as it is.
It definitely looks like they should have given it a bit more time, and I feel like they made the wrong calls on image quality vs. performance.
I read this as the original PSA One RE 1 and 2 and was way more excited when I thought it was those 2 titles. Don't think I'll get this one until it's really cheap, but good to see more Capcom support.
@GamePerson19 I think I'd be good with a TellTale version of just about anything Nintendo related! I think Star Fox could definitely be cool, though! Mix in some on rails shooting sections with choices being made both while you play and through the usual TellTale QTE cutscenes.... that would be pretty fantastic!
I am definitely interested in this-- especially for the right price! I'd also be all over a bundle of Telltale's Walking Dead seasons, as I think they'd be wonderful on the Switch! I never did play Season 2, and I think bundling them as a full retail release to get folks caught up would be an amazing way to do it, and one I'd be very interested in!
@Kalmaro Same. People seem to mistake THINKING this will be bad for HOPING it will be bad. I don't WANT it to be bad, but I haven't seen a single encouraging sign yet. I had a Dreamcast and Genesis, and (at the time) loved the Sonic games on them. I have nothing to gain from this game being crap, and I really hope to be proven wrong. Sonic and his fans have been through enough at this point....
Unless I've forgotten how to read, the Dualies went from 180 to 170 damage..... How the heck is that a buff, like half the comments are saying? They are DEFINITELY overpowered, though. Glad to see them taken down a peg.
EDIT: I DID forget how to read, and they DID get a small buff. What even?
@ThomasBW84 Honestly, I think your Scoring Policy explains the scores quite well, and makes the numbers make good sense for what they represent.
Given this is a 6/10, it's "Not Bad," but for those who take 5 seconds to read, that means: "This game is not good enough to rush out and buy without doing your homework. Whilst you should approach with a degree of caution you might still really enjoy this game."
I can't imagine how this could be interpreted as "bad" by anyone other than those who assume it's an objective 1-10 scale devoid of all other context, and thus a 6 = "bad." Or thinks like IGN where anything below a 7/10 must be literally broken.
So, for anyone who refuses to read more than a number instead of looking at the text of the review and what the dang number actually means:
This score is a recommendation, but with reservations. If you like Pikmin, you'll probably enjoy this on some level (depending on what you like about Pikmin). It's not higher because, for a general audience, there are reasons to be concerned.
I.... don't see what's so hard to understand about that. And I don't want to see that kind of caveat in every review ever, but clearly some people are too lazy/thick to get it.
@fbnaulin Right? I thought it'd risk being DOA with Splatoon 2 coming out a mere month after it launched (I didn't get it for that reason in particular). Glad to see a whole lot of other folks still grabbed a copy, though!
I preordered mine and got it right near launch, but I still haven't seen one on a shelf in stores to date. I check at every store, just out of curiosity. Still haven't seen a single one of them on a shelf anywhere around me, or when I travel for my job. Suffice to say that stock issues are the only thing stopping that number from being much higher, I'm sure.
I'm entirely too invested in the Switch now. Haven't played my New 3DS for a second since it came out, I don't think. Having the same amazing games at all times is beyond amazing! Maybe I'll head back at some point, but for now, I'm having WAY too much fun with my Switch!
@Fandabidozi I got the sense that it might be tied into your "rank"? They said something to that effect to me, and once I got to Fresh with one of my weapons (they all seem to start at Dry, then go to Raw, then Fresh), they unloaded all the gear on me on my next Amiibo scan. Not sure if there's a connection there, or if it's just a number of days thing, but if it keeps not happening for you, that could be why!
@Kalmaro To play devil's advocate for everyone telling you no, they could always apply some antialiasing or do some down-sampling, in theory. Even if the screen is natively 720p, they could apply small visual enhancements to make the most out of it! I imagine they'd increase the draw distance in handheld first and foremost, but you never know!
@Raptor78 You may be thinking of Club Nintendo, which did use codes. I don't think MyNintendo, the replacement service, has ever had full games as a download for coins prior to just now. At least not in North America! Unless you're counting the Twilight Princess Picross game, that is. I don't recall if they gave me a code for that, though, now that I think about it....
Maybe even way too late, but I'm glad to FINALLY see this happening. There's hope for this to come to North America and the Switch at some point! Useful rewards! Finally!
@Bunkerneath I wouldn't be surprised if, like the 30% discounts, they might tie it right to your account, so you can't sell the code. I was going to get a resell a code for 30% off to get SOMETHING for my Gold coins, but luckily, I tried it with some silver ones first for a game I actually wanted to buy for myself, and there was no code involved.

Re: Review: Slime-san (Switch eShop)
This is definitely a 9/10 in my book, and I'm pleased to see NL come to the same conclusion. Amazing game, and beyond worth the $12.
I've said it elsewhere and I'll say it again, but I think this is the best pure platformer on the Switch.
