It's quite wonderful having what is essentially a pause button on steroids for a home console. It was always nice being able to close the lid on my 3DS and pick up again whenever I wanted, but being able to do so on a home console and pick back up whenever is amazing.
@OorWullie I dreamed of Dreamcast on the Wii U Virtual Console.... maybe we'll be so lucky this time around. I'd kill for an easy way to play Skies of Arcadia, Grandia 2, and Shenmue on a portable.
Just noticed what I assume to be a new "Scroll Down " for the "Our Review" segment up top. Clever! Nice to encourage folks to actually read the text instead of stopping at the top. When this game hits $20, physically or digitally, I think I'll be on board. Just not interested enough to go for it at near-full-retail price.
@aaronsullivan Yeah, I could see it getting messy, if only because then it's hard to quantify how much it's worth it to localize titles for the west if everyone just buys the Japanese versions initially. Maybe unifying it all would make that easier to determine? Or they'll use the honor system, knowing only hardcore nerds would be creating a Japanese account and buying games early from Japan? We'll see!
1.) Ocarina of Time
2.) A Link Between Worlds
3.) Skyward Sword
4.) A Link to the Past
5.) Twilight Princess
As of a few weeks from now, I have no reason to expect Breath of the Wild won't push down at least one of those titles on my list. My hope is to have a new #1, but we shall see!
I'm assuming the important caveat here is that if we buy a game on the Japanese eShop, we only ever have access to the Japanese version? If there were a way to upgrade to the US version digitally later (without repurchasing it) I would be immensely pleased, but I suspect that's impossible?
@MoonKnight7 Right? What a disappointment. I got Block Drop U to support him for using the Nintendo Web Framework and I was excited about where it would go from there. It.... never really went anywhere, which was a huge bummer. I can only assume that if the dev kits are, in fact, only ~$500 we'll be seeing a whole lot of games from him in the near future with the word Switch tacked onto them in any number of ways.
Hard not to get a Hotline Miami vibe from this game with the overhead style and such, but it seems to have more to it overall with the phasing powers and such. Very interesting! I feel like the Switch is off to an infinitely better start with indies than the Wii U ever was!
I've long loved Monaco: What's Yours is Mine, and hoped for a Nintendo-based release of that game (the Wii U would have been PERFECT for it!), and this seems like a cross between that and the art/setting for Prison Architect. I could definitely be persuaded to get on board at the right price!
@gamermole If we see it announced today, I'll be putting aside $20 immediately to grab it when it hits. I'll have to bump Snipperclips or FAST RMX from my launch plans if it comes soon, but we'll see!
I'm wondering if we'll see Kerbal Space Program confirmed to be both canceled for Wii U (had that been officially done?) and announced for the Switch, since that's another one I'm very interested in, but since I upgraded to Windows 10 (accidentially) my PC's discrete graphics card isn't supported properly, so it's worthless for playing games on. Ugh.
Also, let me add that your lists of games in response to Manjushri are all wonderful; you have great taste in indies!
@gamermole Now THAT is what I like to hear! I imagine the cross-platform multiplayer would be the big issue here, but we'll see! Maybe the collaboration with DeNA will make for a more robust back-end and allow for the "full experience." I'd get it in a heartbeat if I could, though! I can only assume a truly portable version of this game would be a smash hit!
@Manjushri Maybe the awful ones clogging Steam Greenlight, but if you think the games being made by Shin'en, Yacht Club, Tomorrow Corporation, and other elite indie devs/games are "low budget and buggy," and presumably using that phrase as a criticism, you're mistaken. While they do get made for substantially less than a "AAA" game, and you may not enjoy them personally, a lot of these indie games and devs are fantastic. If you're only into AAA titles, that's your business, but don't dismiss these titles as shovelware; they lack the scope and flash of AAA titles, but the indie scene makes a ton of amazing games in the modern era and a lot of these are worth looking into. They tend to be much more focused and the best ones call back to the days of NES and SNES game development where small teams had a really specific vision and executed it masterfully.
@gamermole If today is the day we get confirmation, boy will I be happy! And I imagine many, many others! Being able to play a full 4v4 match locally with every player having their own screen would be AMAZING. I don't think I'd ever be able to pull it off, but I can only imagine how excited a developer would be about that prospect.
@SegaBlueSky I'm REALLY hoping for Rocket League at some point. It'd be perfect for the Switch, and I think for Nintendo platforms in general. My nephew plays the heck out of it, and I'd love to get in on it as well!
I'd be fine with all the usual suspects from iOS and Android making their way over. Things like Clash of Clans, Candy Crush, etc. I would never play them, but I think to make the Switch a full-blown tablet proposition those sorts of games would elevate the Switch to something more general consumers would want, which will be very good for Nintendo in the long run.
@Moon You're 100% right, though, and I was about to be "that guy" as well if nobody else had. I should hope that a brand new Switch not running a game would have a better battery than a 6-year-old iPad 2 battery that's (presumably) gone through many, many charging cycles.
If they all had brand new batteries in them, I'd be much more interested in the comparison, or if they all had a "demanding" game being played on them, but, alas.
I have to assume that at this price point they'll slay Redout. I considered getting one of the two, and my decision has been made very, very easy for me! Looking forward to checking this one out!
@Smug43 That's the plan! A good review and I could definitely live with this as a cartoony-mascot-platformer type of thing for early in the Switch's lifetime. Guess I can just wait for Sonic Mania if nothing else!
My concern? The controls. I don't get the sense that movement will be a clean 1:1 from what I've seen, given the weaving movement of the snake's head. If it is indeed 1:1 movement, and it feels precise, then I'll be much more on board with this one. Like the look, audio, and style, but the controls concern me a bit.
All I know is that if they make it, I'll buy it. For the optimists out there, perhaps we can assume they're being quiet since there will be some bonus/Switch/Nintendo specific elements to it that they don't want to reveal yet? Otherwise, why bother being mysterious, especially when it's going to be read as the worst case scenario automatically.
Oh, and @ThomasBW84, thanks for the heads-up about the booster packs! I haven't found any info on the booster packs coming to consoles, so I appreciate that confirmation! I assumed they would, but never found any concrete wording about that.
Love the homage to Zelda there with the booklet design; it warms my heart! I'll probably grab I Am Setsuna at launch as well now to not burn out on Zelda since this got delayed. I want Zelda to last, so I need some fun roadblocks along the way. I may snag World of Goo and Human Resource Machine as well, since my preorder of the physical edition of Isaac will leave me waiting. I'm also hopeful for Shovel Knight to come sooner rather than later. And I may consider Bomberman as well if it's well-reviewed and has a good amount of content. So much to love near launch!
Apparently it's going to be $30 at retail for a physical copy on PS4 and Xbox One based on some digging I've done, and I think that's pretty reasonable. I'd love the digital-only copy to be cheaper, but I think $30 for this title, in physical form, would be pretty acceptable. At the high end of the spectrum, to be sure, but not unreasonable. I think $40 would have been a deal-breaker for many. I recall The Witness getting grief for being $40 (to say nothing of No Man's Sky at $60), so I'm glad they don't seem to be dramatically overreaching on the price.
Nabbed my name since the start of the Nintendo Network, LinkedToThePast. Or, since the caps won't work, linkedtothepast.
Edit: I created a dummy My Nintendo account, and it seems that these usernames are, indeed, unique ones. I tried to use linkedtothepast on my dummy account and it said it was taken. I worried that they were all just nicknames like we use on the Wii U to name the Mii, but these are definitely more legitimate than that.
So, make sure you're grabbing the name you want, as this doesn't seem to be purely cosmetic, and IDs are unique.
Love these guys. I happily plunged into Little Inferno at the Wii U's launch, and really enjoyed it for how quirky and weird it was. I never got Human Resource Machine, but I'll definitely grab that at launch. Might get World of Goo as well, since I've only ever played it on my phone, and I don't think I finished it. Keep the good stuff coming, fellows!
If this were a 3DS release (or even a New 3DS exclusive), I'd be all over it! The procedural nature lends itself to on-the-go play, I reckon. Here's hoping that's still a possibility, since I'd definitely grab and play it there.
My main third party dream title for the Switch right now? Rocket League. PLEASE make it happen! I would love to be able to play that on Switch, and especially on the go.
Considering the horsepower in this thing, if they had those apps it could still stand to almost be the best tablet on the market, and among the best in its price class. From what I've seen of Chrome OS devices using the K1, it makes for an insanely high quality computing experience for mobile devices, positioning it to be among the best tablets out there.
THAT is why they should add these features (and frankly, why they should have them at launch); it'll make the Switch appealing to anyone considering a tablet for basic media consumption as well. Why settle for a tablet that can play a smattering of old ports and f2p garbage when the Switch could have all the media apps consumers expect, blazing fast internet, and plays real full-on console games, both on the TV and on the go? The Switch could easily be the best tablet out there not made by Apple if they did that, so I think it's a HUGE missed opportunity. I suspect the reason is to rush it out for launch day in March, but who's to say.
That said, I don't care PERSONALLY, and I don't think I'd ever really use the browser, but I'm not naive enough to think I represent the majority of the buying public.
@Grawlog With what I know now, it feels more like a $20 game, but, if it proves otherwise, I may grab this instead of I Am Setsuna at launch to complement Zelda and Isaac.
@dres Having played The Binding of Isaac on Wii U and then on 3DS, I thought at first that I could NEVER get used to the aiming with the face buttons after using a joystick, but once I saw how inaccurate the c-stick was, I gave the buttons a shot, and now, I have zero issues with that method. I'm thinking the same will be true for the joycon L, where it seems weird at first, but after a brief adjustment, it's fine.
Plus, after my experience with the Wii U, I've made a point of preordering the Pro Controller immediately, so it's no concern for me, and a sacrifice I'm willing to make when on the go with the Switch to not have a D pad.
That said, I'd also buy a Joycon L with a d-pad in it in a heartbeat.
When they showed the joycon functionality, the main thing that excited me about it is that it almost 100 percent guarantees an HD update for Skyward Sword, which is going to look INCREDIBLE in HD and desperately deserves better than the Wii was capable of visually.
@UNSOLUTEDSALT In North America Zip Lash is only $7.45 new on Amazon with Prime shipping. I'd advise looking into that to get a physical copy for cheaper, unless you're an all-digital person anyway.
Considering how many currently worthless MyNintendo points I have right now, my hope is that I can buy as much of this stuff as possible with those points to put them to use. I'll happily trade as many of my 180 Gold coins and 2540 Silver coins as Nintendo will take for "Orbs," if they'll let me (I'm hopeful but not expecting it). Otherwise, I'll play VERY sparingly, and maybe drop cash here and there if it feels fair.
@Wexter Gotta add the Dreamcast to that list as well.... all machines struck down before their prime. But here's hoping thew Switch turns out to be a new Wii, but with better support from third parties beyond party games and such.
Not a bad idea; sell out preorders early by being conservative, then drive up demand which you then meet in time for launch day so everyone who wants one can get it. Hope this thing sells well and fast. I adored the Wii U and it's a shame how little love it got.
Definitely interested. Depending on what it's competing with later in 2017 and its price, I'll definitely grab it sooner or later. Rip-off or not, if it reviews well and the price is right I'm all for anything that does a solid Zelda impression.
I'm excited that it seems to have Bluetooth support, which I hope/expect will also work for audio. It'd be nice to be able to use my wireless headphones and/or my bluetooth speaker if the audio isn't as loud as I'd like when undocked.
I also like that based on some rudimentary math, with Joycons included, it appears to only be about 20% heavier than a 3DS XL. It's also about 20% lighter than the Wii U gamepad, apparently, so right between the two. Not too shabby.
Wish this were a launch title, as a speedy Sonic platformer would be something I'd want right away. I'd be ALL OVER IT if it were. Drat. Also hoping for a ~$20 price tag when it does hit. If not, I'll wait for a sale to get it on Switch most likely.
@flapjackashley2 I've been playing the heck out of it, and I don't think it's frozen once in my ~30 hours with it. Due to the procedural nature of the game, I may just be lucky, but it's been smooth sailing for me. The Switch version will nearly negate the N3DS version for me, but it's still great in my experience so far and great to have on the go.
Preordered for two reasons. One, I have Prime so I get 20% off for any early order, and I definitely want Isaac, so, I might as well. Two, Isaac is awesome, and I love that despite how temperamental Tyrone Rodriguez is, that they're supporting the Switch at launch. I'm hoping this decision pays dividends for them since it'll almost certainly be the best non-Nintendo launch title. I sure wouldn't mind getting an awesome bonus as well, however!

Definitely interested. Depending on what it's competing with later in 2017 and its price, I'll definitely grab it sooner or later. Rip-off or not, if it reviews well and the price is right I'm all for anything that does a solid Zelda impression.
Re: Official Nintendo Switch Technical Specifications Have Been Shared
I'm excited that it seems to have Bluetooth support, which I hope/expect will also work for audio. It'd be nice to be able to use my wireless headphones and/or my bluetooth speaker if the audio isn't as loud as I'd like when undocked.
I also like that based on some rudimentary math, with Joycons included, it appears to only be about 20% heavier than a 3DS XL. It's also about 20% lighter than the Wii U gamepad, apparently, so right between the two. Not too shabby.
Re: First Impressions: Feeling Young Again With Sonic Mania
Wish this were a launch title, as a speedy Sonic platformer would be something I'd want right away. I'd be ALL OVER IT if it were. Drat. Also hoping for a ~$20 price tag when it does hit. If not, I'll wait for a sale to get it on Switch most likely.
Re: The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ Will Be A Launch Title For Nintendo Switch
Re: The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ Will Be A Launch Title For Nintendo Switch
