Re: Poll: Is Your Nintendo Switch Cracking Under The Pressure?

MADGAZ

My day one Switch is still as good as new. Pretty much 100% docked play with play sessions exceeding an easy 6-8 hours minimum esp Xeno

I even have a two year prodding the screen and has managed to fling joy cons just about everywhere!

Not a single scratch anywhere let alone a crack.

Re: Video: Here's 15 Minutes Of Star Fox In Starlink: Battle For Atlas

MADGAZ

It's no man's sky with guns! We'll lots of borrowed ideas anyway. Waiting on this one as the combat looks really clunky. As mentioned above it looks like an FPS but with a ship sitting on the floor! Hopefully the additional weapons shorten the time taken to kill even basic foes. I was getting bored watching ign 10 minute playthrough let alone shooting the same tiny robot for 12 minutes.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's E3 2018 Went Big On Smash Bros. But Left Us Wanting More

MADGAZ

Nintendo do not understand how to put on a show that wows everybody world wide. Their marketing is focused on Japan Japan Japan and this is evidenced by the retro art and flashing arcade style imagery used in all its presentations. I am sure I speak for many that would suggest this E3 clip reel seems very much an after thought . Anybody could put this together in around a couple of hours - Yet here is an opportunity to put the fans first that were hurt by the piss poor Wii U marketing, put the Switch on a pedestal where it belongs, and prove the Devs how dumb they are if they do not support the platform!

It hurts to see the Nintendo powerhouse from the 80s/90s losing touch. Sure the games are great but without effort to show the console strength they are be in a constant fight for AAA titles.

Re: Feature: Vote For Your 2017 Nintendo Life Game of the Year

MADGAZ

Defo not botw! After initially loving everything about this game and smashing the life out of it, on closer inspection you start to see major cracks!
1, Game is a foundation to new story arc only hence lack of lore.
2 Blood Moon serves only to reset the map for memory purposes and is actually really annoying.
3. Minor , major test of strength boring! Set routines and far too many
4. Exploration of outer map edges far too empty
5. Desert dust just isn't fun esp without map. Silly time wasting mechanic
6. Area boundaries between hot and cold places nonsense. One can move up one step and shiver yet climb down a step and regain warmth.

Yes I enjoyed most of the game but these negs prevent botw being game of the year!

Re: Site News: Say Hello To The New Nintendo Life Editor, Dom Reseigh-Lincoln

MADGAZ

Welcome! Like yourself I too am a 30 something avid gamer and it was Nintendo that made me this way. Yes I had just about every other console but it's only the big N where I see true consistent fan-service. The other heavy hitters seem to think fans are waiting to empty wallets for the next big hit. Nintendo has a rich heritage of story telling and quality to best that. So if you stick to your roots of what made you a gamer, chuck in some NL slapstick, and a few more posts at weekends! You're good to go!

I second eshop reviews being done slightly differently. Perhaps a grading system? An eshop title costing a few pounds should not be able to get same scores as publishers putting effort in and creating unique experiences.

Re: Review: Ginger: Beyond the Crystal (Switch)

MADGAZ

It's £4 on PS4 and whilst I agree not the greatest game. It certainly gives platform fans a challenge. I obviously can"t speak for the switch version but I can say that the actual game mechanics do actually work. Yes there are fetch quests but there is a fair bit of variance with environments, different gameplay styles and dare I say it actually challenge! I think the reviewer here just got annoyed falling whilst gathering red crystals! This game is probably created with kids in mind, but there is some challenge to be found. Ignore the wonky camera and overlook fetch quests and you have a game that is 5/10 at the very least. If you liked croc try this.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch Isn't Physically Backwards Compatible With 3DS And Wii U Software

MADGAZ

@XCWarrior The dock is the charger so has to be.

says the rep, although you’ll probably be surprised to learn that the dock is not the primary component of the console.
“The dock is not the main console unit of Nintendo Switch. The main unit of Nintendo Switch is the unit that has the LCD screen, which the two Joy-Con controllers can be attached to and detached from,” the rep continues to explain, before adding that the Dock is simply there to charge the portable LCD screen and provide output to a TV whenever you want to play on a bigger screen.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of the Nintendo Switch?

MADGAZ

Interesting but certainly not new. Lots of unknowns for the time being. My two biggest concerns are 3rd party devs not liking the control setup in local multiplayer and the biggest threat a deluge of mobile games brokered through dena. Lets face it Ninty has essentially provided a platform for mobile gaming. They need to ensure that the big box games remain firm in the dev cycles and not get caught in a storm of poke go clones. Case in point the shovel ware from two years on for the Wii. This could be present from day one. Would the big N claim this as a system with games? Just imagine Reggie now. You want games, we have 30 but 27 are mobile versions of our popular brands.

Re: Reaction: Our Early Thoughts on the Nintendo Switch

MADGAZ

Yeah it's the mobile bit that worries me. Don't get me wrong Tegra is strong but I'd be fairly confident saying that couldn't power a 50" or 4k at a decent frame rate. Leads me to think dock must have something up its sleeve. But this then means a price not less than £349 or somewhere very close. Maybe if dock is just that then £280 or there abouts. Thats only going on bare bones and assuming no other extras like super wifi etc.

Re: Reaction: Our Early Thoughts on the Nintendo Switch

MADGAZ

Ninty is always first to point the finger at copycats, however this time it's them. The Switch is essentially the Morpheus X300 from Aikun! Also to note there are a few similar pad, control set-ups on the market. Granted the Switch is what the Wii U should have been, but this is now 3 years too late. The Tegra tech alone is not going to power 1080/60 on a 50" without signif frame drops. The hope would be that the dock has some impressive trickery. Also are we really going to be huddled around tiny screens with fiddly remotes? Car, plane, office? Meh mobiles do this with bluetooth controls. Nintendo need to grow up and move with the tech or once again it gets left behind. It really is dependant on the cost. Here on face value we have a glorified tablet and what appears to be flimsy peripherals. What happens when our friend treads on one? Gamepad all over?

Sorry but N has dropped out on this. Watch the flood of mobile games dilute the true nintendo classics. Sorry to say but from whats been shown. Nintendone! They even showed more Zelda for their old console, literally giving any existing wii u owners zero reason to buy. They really have to fix their marketing.

Re: Updated Nintendo Patent For Modular, Customisable Control Options Gives Another Spin on NX Reports

MADGAZ

So my source was correct! The new rumour fits very well with what I mentioned a couple of weeks back. Which incidentally comes from a very trust worthy source at UBI.

And theres more! The NX is absolutely using NEW graphic tech that is not out yet or has ever been mentioned even in rumours.

The device has a high quality render system that relies on an alternative source being fed to it. This source can also serve to enhance the resolution of 'some' portable games - My source has now seen a dev kit and although powerful was not blown away.

What did impress them was the ability to create the same gaming experience across two screen sizes and resolutions. He firmly believes that NX is a modular system that has removable graphic components that can be upgraded like a PC.

Games in Dev for NX:
Just Dance
A party experience that uses camera filters ala snapchat
A game based on a ninja (prince of persia?)
Ghost Recon voyage
A game that involves robots in a human environment as helpers.

More soon guys. News is flowing freely now. Look for a partial reveal just after the 29th Aug.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo NX Deal Is A Vindication Of Nvidia's Shield Program

MADGAZ

More rumblings from our Ubi insider see previous posts. It is understood that the new nintendo console is NOT using the X1 or X2 chip or parker by Nvidia. instead there are solid reports of a custom build at work. which funnily enough is code named Tegra 'Next' yes Next as in NX next!

Also there is said to be connectivity of sorts using a side read/write system. Though not sure our source is suggesting a camera or sensor system that can transfer data using radio waves. A sort of mash up of nfc Amibo and sensor bar to locate or control "other" objects.

News on that front is incredibly thin as it being being very closely guarded. But it would seem as though the new nintendo machine is a remote or several for something. Our guess is the sides could possibly become room sensors for immersive vr or at least some form of surround sound system hence the wave format.

There is more trickling through the net but very slowly. Apparently the power source isn't too cheap and they have it at about $11 alone this will not be as cheap as you think.

Lastly Ubi is working on no less than 3 games for launch 1 is a new IP of an old idea. I asked if it was something like Prince of persia and got told 'correct setting' but that was all I got.

Re: Ubisoft CEO Says Nintendo NX Will Help Grow The Industry And Pull In Casual Players

MADGAZ

Firstly I cannot claim that this 100% accurate but I have a fair amount of trust in the guy that shared this with me. He did after all partially leak Driver waaay back.

So here's some more for the rumour mill. But it comes from an apparent internal memo at Ubisoft! I can't divulge exactly where from as breaking serious embargo, but I believe that what our company has been told sounds somewhat accurate and quite Nintendo like.

Firstly the focus is on getting gamers back and growing a new audience for Nintendo with a potential cross of casual and even pre school with use of an attached app possible drawing tool.

Some games will require emotion testing? Absolutely no idea on this.

The memo then mentions game segments that 'Take over' and play a bit of your game if you get stuck. A bit like a live tutorial and the example given of a child constantly failing a jump! The game would take over - This may be the new way to play?

Sadly there was not too much more that could be gleamed. Although the memo did suggest that the final specs are still a work in progress. Game designers have been told to create 2 versions of tech demo's for quality testing which could mean two differently powered consoles!

Finally only a handful of dev kits have been released, but there a bit of a buzz about a homebrew element using an online resource, and not actually requiring a kit until further testing.

So there you guys a tiny snippet of info which may or may not paint a picture. But it would suggest that Ninty is certainly courting casual gamers.

Games that plat themselves when we screw up? What do you think guys?

Re: Patent Reinforces the Prospect of Nintendo NX Having a Portable Handset

MADGAZ

Nintendo just gave away what NX is! According to the latest briefing (Quoted Below)

Shinya Takahashi (Director, General Manager of Entertainment Planning and Development Division):

"Physical controllers for smart device applications are available in the market and it is possible that we may also develop something new by ourselves"

It is clear that NX is cross communication. There have been rumblings of a Nintendo-like or partnered smart phone for some time. NX is a home console that is able to in some how communicate with both this and your existing mobile phone.

The patent design here is clearly referring to an overlay of physical buttons. I believe it is shown this way to put us off the scent of simply placing a 'Nintendo's words' "peripheral over existing digital devices" .

I could be wrong here but all signs point to this as a conclusion. Although I am struggling to work out the medium for sharing such large programs. Is Ninty building some sort of gaming cloud with DENA? That allows us to stream the content directly from the home source?

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Thinks You Should Give Star Fox Zero Another Try

MADGAZ

@VanillaLake Yep it was very much a case of that area that you see over there with some baddies, you can get there kill them and collect a few bits - then you need to seek another area. I am hopeful that several elements were removed to ensure that the first showing did not glitch or crash.

What concerns me is the amount of praise that Ninty seem proud of in creating these small campsite areas. The rep says "it is so that the user knows where to find things to do" Now this may aid the narrative in some weird way, but it certainly doesn't give any sense of exploration. Instead its like here kids this is camp 1 and once you finish this someone in camp 2 will have a box that requires a key from camp 3.

In almost 40 minutes of play including 2 shrines we only experienced 2 'WOW' moments where we thought actually that was pretty cool. Let's just hope this is a very early build.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Thinks You Should Give Star Fox Zero Another Try

MADGAZ

@HappyMaskedGuy Absolutely my point exactly re the cinematics! It comes across as nintendo not having an idea of having to build a story. Instead the do a flashy intro which prob takes up most of their resources and then figure to leave the crucial wow factors out of the game.

I say get him working with Platinum as an intern. Now those guys know how to rock a gamers world. They still do cutesy and lul us into a false sense of security then Bam all hell breaks loose.

Wonderful 101 massively underrated. Yes it had a few flaws in control but story and experience were simply sublime. You took a massive breathe when you finished it and not once are you left going oh is that it? Instead the user is simply startled at what they have just experienced.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Thinks You Should Give Star Fox Zero Another Try

MADGAZ

The same problem seems to be rearing its ugly head yet again. Nintendo and especially Miyamoto are simply out of touch of what gamers actually need and want. Starfox was a fun little romp for a demo, but for a full priced retail release - Guys you have to try MUCH harder. I think the issue stems from the old saying that you cannot teach an old dog a new trick. The elders at nintendo are simply not moving forward with the times.

The biggest flaw these guys have is the word 'FUN' either they are using extremely confused focus groups and testers, or they simply do not want to listen. It would seem that if they think something is FUN then that is fine and it is guaranteed to sell.

A successful game needs to captivate the player and invite them into an experience. The experience should include moderate and some difficult challenges, and encourage exploration. Furthermore having no online multiplayer is an absolute no-no in this age. Of course we are happy to conquer a game alone and try to enjoy it (ahem controls) but once we have done that and mastered our barrel roll - we want to take our friends and a few strangers out.

We do not need you to hold our hand or give us specific instructions on what to do next. Let us work out a way to get through the barrier instead of prompting us every 10 seconds.

Finally spend some time perfecting a new graphics engine or several. Cutesy cartoon graphics only work in certain areas. An example would be project guard. Truthfully its a pile of rubbish that is simply no better than a mobile game.

What happens if we placed some atmospheric lighting, a nerve jangling soundtrack to really drive the adrenalin, and some kick arse weapons to dispatch those foes. Give it a HD sheen and bring it up to date with live video commentary from other outposts. You have a lot to learn about setting a mood.

The same can be said for the first hands on with the new Zelda. Yes you have given us an open world to explore but nothing is grabbing us and saying come this way or what happens if I .. dammit the floor just gave way! It needs a much better sense of pace and a general direction. Hands on time left me feeling meh. I love Zelda as I love most ninty games, but what I played was pretty much a sandbox with no real concept. Let's hope that the guys at Nintendo are holding a lot back, because as it stands it is simply a pot of ideas that do not seem to gel together.

Back to Starfox : This is also the case. Miyamoto has clearly asked his team what bits work and what bits they like and they have literally thrown together a few elements and called it an experience. When you are charging £50 for a game it needs to be £50 worth of playtime, fun, experience and a sense of achievement for beating it. Instead you see the credits roll and think are you kidding me? Then you think ok I'll hit the other paths and gain another hour or so of play. Oh but wait I have to fly through the exact same areas to get there yawn. I know I'll challenge my friends online! - Um....

Re: Nintendo NX Has A Core Idea Which Doesn't Just "Follow Advancements In Technology", Claims Miyamoto

MADGAZ

@Vegaphil Hey yep. I remember when everyone was guessing what the Wii U was there was a few rumours going around that the gamepad would somehow allow you to create small demo's, of the games that you own for your friends to try.

I don't recall full details or where they were from but I guess the idea is that you can save a few levels of your new game onto the gamepad (now a potential cartridge) That can either be played by you on the move or transferred to your friends.

Re: Nintendo NX Has A Core Idea Which Doesn't Just "Follow Advancements In Technology", Claims Miyamoto

MADGAZ

The NX could be referring to a rumour that was floating around just after the WII launch and I think that it is beginning to sound a bit familiar. There was a rumour before WII U that the next ninty console was going to allow us to save large demo parts of our games on the a handheld unit and transfer these for our friends to try.

All of a sudden we did not have to wait to trail a demo but save a few levels of our friends games. It makes a lot of sense and now with the rumoured cartridge system has the memory capability to easily write flash files for fast storage and transfer.

Developers do not have to waste valuable game building time on preparing demo's either a number of levels or a set game percentage can be transferred.

I'm calling this as the secret.

Could this be Nintendo NEXT as in next person to try the game?

Re: Xenoblade Director on What's Next for the Series and What Makes it So Popular

MADGAZ

Quite like the idea of 'Chronicles of the Blade' for a sequal.

Years later the planet has been saved and a new planet has been inhabited by humans and the like. Thinking along the lines of religion as a form of control. Who would govern it? What races or classes would claim that they saved the people? Was it the pathfinders? - Mapping their next move, or perhaps it was those that stood and fought the battles?

Think huge cities to explore with country sized borders ala fallout style wastelands and no go zones. The populous of each of these believing that they were the ones to save humanity and want others to join their fight. Sectors can work together or 'gang up' in massive on-line teams. What happens if you wanted a Skell - yet you can only get one by helping a rival sect? and potentially one that you do not agree with! - The possibilities are endless.

The story could also encompass flashbacks from the previous 2 games to really get the point across and to introduce newcomers to the world.

NLA - NYK - NLDN - NMEX - NAUS - NCHINA - NCANADA - NAFRICA are all going to have defend themselves against each-other!

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo is Right to Move On From the Wii Family Name With NX

MADGAZ

The Wii was a dead console at the end of its life. Then calling a sequal Wii again when you have already lost your core or 'hardcore' market is suicide. The biggie arised when 3rd party devs could not support Wii due to the lack of power. Then being told Wii 2 or U or whatever is coming still underpowered. They must have torn up those plans immediately. Ultimately Ninty needs to spend. I managed one of GAME larger uk stores and MS and Sony had the monopoly on the shop floor, taking an entire side each! If you want to show that you mean business, then then need more than a gondola end. Name wise; This NX needs to be something that is already a big part of a true gamer. Simply Nintendo Platinum! and give those guys all of your funds to create at least 5 launch titles including BAYO 3 and Madworld 2 It will sell millions. Oh and create an open world Mario Gta style game with fzero vehicles, xeno mechs, zelda dungeons, metroid weapons, and collectable Pokemon. There you go 30 million year one platinum boxes sold 😄

Re: New Details Discovered on Xenoblade Chronicles X’s Exploration System

MADGAZ

@Tsurii897 The fanboy in me is hoping for an undiscovered civilization that has somehow befriended the beasts! I wanna ride one of them Can you imagine running through this incredibly detailed world on a giant prehistoric style emu?

Also for me the city part almost feels slightly detached from the fantasy realm that the rest of the game shows. there has to be more to it!

Re: New Details Discovered on Xenoblade Chronicles X’s Exploration System

MADGAZ

Now we're talking! Just hurry and get this game to Europe! I'm calling it now game of the year for 2015!

One thing. Has anybody seen any information regarding any other towns? I mean there has to be people that do not live in a city right? I have checked through all the feeds that I can find and find no other civilisation. Then again - Monolith could be hiding these areas in the large swathes of darkness on that map. It looks very likely that there is certainly more to it.

Re: Nicalis Boss Tyrone Rodriguez Thinks The Wii U GamePad Is "A Waste Of Time And Resources"

8 Video of what happens next!
9 Avatar communication
10 Puzzles - Swipe, touch, prod, scrape, blow, shout erm...

15 Keypad - Hold the bad boy up as in game and prod away! We don't do buttons we have technology.
16 Xray vision
17 Interactive gaming - Draw on the game screen to show your on-line friends where you found that stash.

And Finally. Make some real games not shoddy half donkey ports. Use real decent engines and actually engage the true gamer. Don't rehash the same old boring stuff or graphically inferior things and expect them to sell. Nintendo fans are true gamers that have been since the beginning. the only difference is that we wont be conned with "add on" dlc, as we are more used to working HARD to unlock the next bit. - Rant Over!
Please watch the profanity — TBD

Re: Reggie Talks Up Wii U Blockbusters As Top 10 Sellers Across the Whole Generation

MADGAZ

Reggie will announce Tomb Raider Reflections Wii U! OMG get excited. Can you imagine just how cool this bad boy is gonna be?

“It’s so hard to keep a secret these days,” the representative said. “We appreciate all of the enthusiasm, however we don’t have any details to share just yet. That said, we highly recommend you keep an eye on any major gaming events happening in early December.”

The early gaming event in December is the Spike Video Game Awards

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Resilience Against Wii U Criticism Emphasizes Its Longevity

MADGAZ

Nintendo is going to be fine.

I can see it now, ( or if it isn't Ninty better read this and start planning)

Step 1 - A massive Zelda U Reveal on the Europe 22/29th Dec Launches to grab the press and send the internet bonkers.

Step 2 - A big thank you to supporting fans with a free demo download of Mario Kart or Tropical freeze to download and play over the holidays.

Step 3 - A simple add campaign of "X marks the spot" Screenshots of Truly next gen visual teasers all over social media.

Step 4 - A tease of something new Nintendo related advent calender every day of Dec.

And finally a very merry X - mas from Nintendo.

That should just about win it!

I am a one man marketing machine see Miiverse. Question is who will join?

However more work on retailers and advertising is certainly needed here in the UK.

Re: Nintendo Direct Broadcast Confirmed for 13th November

MADGAZ

So Ninty is to flex its advertising muscle. Has anyone seen a Mario 3D World commercial in Europe yet? It's coming soon ya know Nintendo! Even Face book page is still showing Pokemon.

But wait they put a picture a cute cat goomba on twitter! yeah that's how you work it.. snore..

Competitive Multi-player
Game pad craziness
Speed Runs
Glorious HD Bosses

But no we get a flaming cat goomba!

Re: Call of Duty: Ghosts Wii U Performance Reportedly Drops Below PS3 and 360 Standards

MADGAZ

Has anyone noticed that there is a crap ton of negative Wii U news in the week leading to Xbox release? All of a sudden all of these devs and companies are coming out with quotes, doctored videos etc.

I have even spotted a negative Mario 3D review already! and it was a measly 6/10 Not Possible. Mario gets 8's just for the box art lol

We have seen Microsoft staff at Wii U events. Would they really snoop this low?
