Re: Feature: Steven Spohn On Strides In Accessibility For Gaming, And Nintendo's Room For Improvement

@Ralizah sorry for interjecting since your @ wasnt directed at me, but in any case: Accessibility options and difficulty options aren't mutually exclusive. Giving someone the ability to play something they otherwise wouldn't have been able to due to physical infirmity or disability is quite different from altering the balance of a game designed around learning from repeated failure (like Dark Souls).

@Mgalens Dark Souls 3 bananas? What is this madness you speak of?

I recently had a lengthy discussion on this site about whether all games should include difficulty options, or assist modes. I came away with the impression that, in most cases, people are in support of that (I'm not). So I'm kinda surprised the comment section thus far is opposed to improving accessibility. Chances are folks - you're gonna get old or, God forbid, disabled and have trouble physically playing your games. This is important stuff. I think it was a bit asanine for him to criticize Ninty for gimmicks, but otherwise it's a great subject.

Re: Talking Point: Why Did Nintendo Give Up On Its 'Classic Edition' Concept So Soon?

Losermagnet

Theory 1) Nintendo truelly didn't anticipate how fast people would hack those things, and how popular that became. As a way to no longer foster that behavior they stopped the classic consoles.

Theory 2) It's too costly, for one reason or another, to do an N64 classic or Gamecube classic. Controllers, larger game files, whatever.

Theory 3) they want to support classic titles on the Switch, and dont want people to have an alternative to their own service. I'd say this is the most likely theory....if they actually had decent support for classic games on Switch.

Re: Super Seducer 1 & 2 Refused By Nintendo Due To "Explicit Content"

@johnvboy It certainly seems like that can of worms has been opened. I....don't have much of an opinion I guess. I grew up in the 90s and I feel like there used to be a saying something like "Don't like it? Don't buy/watch/play it". I may not like it, but I don't have to play it. I think the back-and-forth we're witnessing isn't even about the game anymore 😕

Re: Super Seducer 1 & 2 Refused By Nintendo Due To "Explicit Content"

@BulbasaurusRex Thank you for posting that. It's that simple - game has an AO rating, so putting it on the eshop would violate Nintendo's policy. Thread over....?

@johnvboy I get what you were saying that, AO rating aside, Nintendo refusing to list a game would be putting themselves in a precarious spot. It gives the impression that they rejected it for moral reasons, and with that comes backlash. I may think these games are wet, hot, garbage - but I can see where someone who likes them feels like they're being...mistreated maybe? Regardless, it's Nintendo's call. It's their storefront and they can decide what they want to sell. That is a form of expression itself.

The hyper defensiveness is strong in this thread. Anybody trying to defend the game from "supression" or "censorship" is misinformed. You're being played like a fiddle (I suppose he is the super seducer, after all). Richard La Ruina's games aren't erased from existence, there just not available in all stores. Nobody owes this schmuck anything. Meanwhile he's going to gain publicity from an audience trying to position him as a victim. You want to give him your cash? Go ahead.

Re: Talking Point: Is Zelda An RPG, Or Not?

Losermagnet

@BloodNinja what you said about role playing board games is the way to look at this, I think. It's the progenitor of the video game genre, and if a game focuses on emulating stats, rng, etc then I think it's attempting to be an rpg. Those elements may exist in Zelda, but the focus is on interacting with the gameworld and not stats or a "build".

Re: Random: Artist Reimagines EarthBound As A Modern 3D Game Series

Losermagnet

I love the Mother series more than most, but it's difficult for me to seperate the games from their sprite-based artstyle. It would be like seeing Zappa without his 'stache.

I would rather see Super Mario RPG in this artstyle. Feels like what that game was going for anyway. A remake would be good but a proper sequel would be amazing.

Re: Soapbox: It's Time To Normalise Giving Up On Games Early

@SmaggTheSmug your comment made me remember something:

I just started Bloodborne recently and there's a trophy you earn for beating the first boss. The % displayed of players who also earned that trophy was less than 50%. I was shocked. For a game as popular as that, less than half the people even played far enough to finish the first boss encounter.

"Completing a game" has always struck me as a strange construct. It makes sense for linear games with an end point, but what about games like Tetris? Or Street Fighter? When are they done? My perspective is a game is done when it stops being fun.....well..... That's what I would believe if I didn't have a horrible compulsion to finish things I don't even like.

Re: Poll: Do You Like The Chibi Art Style In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl?

Losermagnet

I don't want to pile-on, as the game will probably be as fun and functional as the rest of the Pokemon games, but it feels lazy and out of touch. Maybe it's because I've been playing my PS4 a lot lately, but seeing Diamond and Pearl I'm deeply underwhelmed that it looks like it could've been a 3DS game.

I think New Pokemon Snap and Legends look much better and much more inspired than the mainline pokemon games have in years.
