@ReaperExTenebris As someone who leans towards it not being transphobic - I can totally agree with what you're saying. Let's keep the comments section civil please(famous last words?).
@Rpg-lover I second this comment. I love that it's a story that has adults as the main characters instead of high schoolers. That they're trying to reconcile what they want out of life makes it very relatable.
It feels like it's a bit of both. Any support is a good sign, but the games they picked are odd choices. I assume they must of been the most cost effective move for EA.
@SquallLeonhart86 My guess is it's not. It includes the DLC from the ps4 version, and amongst that is an item that lets you see people in their undies.
Let's hope Atlus will have more Switch support in the future. I just gathered up all the MegTen games on PS2 and it's silly how much I want to play them in handheld.
@onlyonemello Glad to hear it. That oversized box may have raised the cost of buying the game but it really made it stand out on the rental store shelf.
I was lucky enough to have my grandma buy the rental store copy for me when they transitioned their product to newer games. I still have that same cartridge.
@Fido007 I think it varies from person to person nowadays, but playing it as a kid in the 90s offered a different experience than playing it for the first time as an adult. Personally, I think it still holds up and is my favorite game (heck, it's one of my favorite things). Everyone should at least try it, but it's very idiosyncratic.
@technotreegrass it really was a trip going from Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country to Earthbound. I don't think I even knew what an RPG was. That's the kind of experience that you can't replicate.
I have vivid memories of waking up on Xmas, before any of my family had woken up, and finding that perfect rectangular shape under the tree. I still feel the sensation of looking at the DKC 2 box art after tearing off the wrapping paper. The HD video looks great, but I love the original and I'm kind of a purist about things like this. I'm not even a big fan of the new DKC games.
I'm certainly not the best person to provide insight into transphobic media depictions, but I have played this game through 3 times (twice during its original release in 2011 and again for the ps4 rerelease) and I dont think any malice was intended. These transgender characters are actual people in the story, and I think are nuanced and thoughtful given the context and time period the game came out. It's a great puzzle/story game and I'll be buying it on switch for sure
@roy130390 I disagree that Nintendo delibrately did this to sell more switches. For any company to assume their clientele would be able to casually spend $200 to $300 for something they already have would be ludicrous. If they wanted to gouge people they'd do paid DLC, like pocket camp. Is it a bad design choice? Sure. But I don't see it being predatory.
@roy130390 Thank you for the sincere reply. How does the game limit the second player exactly? I play by myself so I'm unaware of those limitations.
I feel like if you started managing several islands you'd lose sight of the small things. For instance, there are only 8 personality types your islanders can have (4 male, 4 female). Only having 10 on your island limits the overlap you'll have, and means you wont be hearing the same lines all the time. Double or triple the number and they'll all feel the same. I guess another way to put it is that i feel like it breaks the immersion and makes it a different kind of game.
@giveahoot Yes, I suppose. Things dont "progress" in animal crossing. Outside of the shops upgrading, nothing really changes and it never "ends". You talk to anthropomorphic animals, decorate your house, and experience the seasons. Does the game stop you from doing that as a second player? Again, this is a serious question. I'm not trying to be argumentative.
Serious question - how would having multiple islands benefit someone? Outside of the "mutliple users with one switch" scenario I don't understand what benefit it would have over one island. Even then, are people really that cross about not having their own individual island to themselves?
Progress being gated to the person who begins the game? Thats a genuinely bad design choice.
Everything else sounds like sour grapes to me. I feel like having multiple islands would cheapen the experience. I'm genuinely sorry for anyone who bought the game thinking that you could do this. As a fan of the series I didnt expect any different but i'm sure for many people this is their first animal crossing. I hope that in time you can grow to like the game for what it is, because it's really quite neat.

@mousieone i didnt watch the stream but i can see how catherine would have really boring gameplay to watch. It's basically M rated pushmo.

Re: Can You Name The First Game These Famous Characters Appeared In?
9/15, but i tried to rush this at work. The only ones that really stumped me were Sonic, Toadette, and Roy
Re: Mini Review: Poopdie - Chapter One - Like Poop, Butts And PewDiePie? Then You're In Luck!
This game looks like crap

Re: Anniversary: EarthBound Turns 25 In The USA, And A Whole Generation Feels Old
I am shocked that the game has retroactively achieved "classic game" status because when I was a wee bairn nobody knew/cared about it.

Anybody else get to play this as a kid? I was lucky enough to rent it from a store called Dave's Video. No exaggeration, it changed my little life.

Re: Catherine: Full Body Will Get A Demo On Switch, File Size And Other Details Revealed
@mangowuvvr69 I want to say the dlc costs about $15 - $20 total on the PS4, so its a good deal. However, the quality of the DLC itself is debatable.
Re: Catherine: Full Body Will Get A Demo On Switch, File Size And Other Details Revealed
@Ralizah Well put.

Other players can't donate to the museum!?! That's pretty crummy. I can totally understand that - it's one of my favorite things to do.
