Re: Review: Space Invaders Forever (Switch) - One Great Game Does Not A Great Package Make

Grumble

Got this on sale for under $20 at WalMart today, so far I think for that price its a great deal. I do like Extreme quite a bit, but I realized I also already had purchased it from the e-shop previously, but still, not bad for under $20 if you can find it. Space Invaders is a classic title, I also would have preferred the original game to be here for all to see and play, too, not just the 'new' stuff.

I cover Atari specifically 24/7 on my YouTube channel, Ballistik Coffee Boy, and have been analyzing them for the past few years. The Atari 'renaissance" is here! I'm loving all the things they're doing, partnerships they're making & consoles & physical games they're releasing, as well as the amazing Atari VCS. A++

Crappy update, imho. This is more 1.5 than a 2. However, I'll probably upgrade to stay in the loop. (A stand! How original! I'll also continue hating using joycons, they are far too small for adult hands to meaningfully hold and use.) I still long for a dedicated beefier home console like the Wii U. Your only flagship devide shouldn't be portable unless its as powerful as its competitors devices.

Re: Rumour: New 'Switch 2' Photos Show Off A Very Legit-Looking Joy-Con

Grumble

I hate the Joycons, always have. I feel like Nintendo should completely abandon the Switch as it is and commit to a total redo. There should be 2 different systems, the switch being the lower end portable and an actual console like the Wii U that stays put that is more powerful. I may be alone here but the Switch Joycons are too tiny for us adults to use, it has to be said.

@Copey oh dang! 14 years sure flies lol 😂 I never wrote one. Obv, but if I recall… the game was fu but felt a little complicated to figure out what to do next. It’s been a minute 🤩😂 I still have this game in my collection, too. Btw, I’m “Ballistik Coffee Boy” on YouTube now and I focus on mostly on Atari these days, thats another passion of mine aside from Nintendo. Atari was my first love

Can't wait to purchase this game. Whether Minter does drugs or not is complete hearsay, all I know as a gamer who grew up with his games is that he is an amazing developer - period. point. blank. that's all we need to know. he's made over 50 games on just about every video game generation, on almost every system you can think of, from the Spectrum computers to the Atari ST, Nintendo DS, PS Vita, Atari VCS, PS5 and beyond. his legacy is astounding. if you haven't played Tempest 2000 on the Atari Jaguar itself, not in emulation, or gems like Polybius, you're missing out. His games are amazing, and I can't wait to play Akka Arrh on my Atari VCS AND Nintendo Switch. I have an in depth look at the dev on my YouTube channel, Ballistik Coffee Boy, if anyone would like to stop by to see it. Not wanting to self plug, just inform. He's such a visionary. (We also owe gems like Tetrisphere on the N64 partially to his genius, as it was slated to be the sequel originally to Tempest 2000, called Phear, before it was sold to Nintendo back in Atari's dark days.) A link to the dev spotlight video for Jeff Minter on my channel here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01m8goO3sCo

Thanks for the review I loved the way you wrote that, and I'm hoping my score for the game is higher as a Jeff Minter fan, but I also hope that my bias doesn't blind me lol

Re: Talking Point: Does Nintendo's Next Console Have To Be 'Another' Switch?

Grumble

@Ratmasterd21 I hear you. This is coming from a full time student in grad school (20 hours at internship site per week, unpaid, for 9 months), and working a full time job I’ve cherished for the past 9 years. As someone who understands busy as well, I’m just saying the joycons are a subpar experience for more serious gamers. The portability is great, but let’s make some refinements everyone can enjoy. Also, the value of time is also important to me so I agree with you and the ease of use and portability is amazing. Just time to refine things a bit more.

Re: Talking Point: Does Nintendo's Next Console Have To Be 'Another' Switch?

Whatever happens, the Joycons are a total disaster and some of the worst game controllers since the Intellivision or Atari 5200. Please please please replace the Joycons with something more substantial. We all dont have the hands of 3 years olds. Let's stop kidding ourselves. While the Switch has a vast game library, the system itself is far subpar to the experience of my Wii U, imho, which I still enjoy, and graphics are pretty darn similar to me. We dont all need portability. I never take my Switch out of it's cradle, hardly ever, and we need a home gaming console that will stay put and be a bit beefier to handle and more ergonomic and comfy to use. Having a handheld AND a home game console is a good idea again, I think, but Nintendo needs to resolve the issue of digital game downloads and allowing one account to have two devices at once. For instance, I had a 3DS and Wii U and always had to pick and choose what I played on each, since they both could not be the same account for me. Silly, and it hurts sales, imho. Thanks!

Re: Review: Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration - A Painstaking Love Letter To Gaming's Pioneers

Grumble

Lots of people will say that Atari 50 is missing gems, a lot of those tiltles are tied up with licensing and such (uhem! Microsoft/Activision/Imagic), NOTHING you can do about that. Fair score but I give it 100 👍🤩 kids these days may not “get” the dawn of gaming 😂 for those that do. I take my hat off to you! As a 47 year old kid, I think it's the game of the year!

My own glowing review, and it's an A+ (or 100%)

https://ballistikcoffeeboy.com/2022/11/13/11-13-22-atari-50-the-anniversary-celebration-not-another-copy-cat-atari-collection-more-like-a-fans-dream-come-true-review/

It's also quite odd this review is buried on the front page, nowhere to be seen, even though it only came out 4 days ago. What gives, NL? It's a fantastic game, and as both a NES and Atari fan, I feel this deserves an even higher score. I do respect the reviewer though and the score, it's a great score.

Re: Atari Anniversary Collection Full List Of Games Possibly Revealed In Retailer Leak

Grumble

@Atariboy agree completely! Btw check out my YouTube page if you like, BallistikCoffeeBoy 👾🙌 sounds like we have a lot in common with Atari 😂👍🏼 Yes I agree, ET didn’t help of course but it did not cause the crash as many like to report. I was there. I was 7 but I was there and saw it way before. over saturation with bad games and clone systems. “Playing with Power” which I just saw seems to have reported it correctly

Re: Retailer Leak May Have Revealed Full List Of Games In Atari's Anniversary Collection

Grumble

Preordered the Switch special edition steelbook.. As a huge Atari fan, this was an instant purchase for me. And I'll be getting it digitally on my VCS, too, as well as AtariMania next week! First time Jaguar and Lynx games have been commercially emulated. Digital Eclipse made an actual program to convert these games over for the first time! Btw, this list was already leaked weeks ago via a Forbes article. I think "Cloak & Dagger" might be the big news in this article, and Touch Me as the handheld (virtualized) included. Thanks for reporting on this though. Atari deserves the publicty. They have done so much for video gaming, they deserve a huge spotlight for sure. (Visit my YouTube page in my bio for more details on what Atari has in store!) P.S. I see lots of misspellings such as "Haunted Houses" (should be "Haunted House") and so on. I counted about 10 errors. Thanks for reporting though.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 26th)

Grumble

On the Switch: Maddening Euphoria (can't get enough), Namco Museum Arcade Pac, Cooking Tycoon 3-in-1, Star Wars Pinball (new purchase yesterday, great game!), Lego Worlds, Cruis'n Blast! (recent purchase), Zelda - Skyward Sword HD (still playing this, slowly, & loving it), G.I.Joe - Operation: Blackout, UNO (like always), and random favorites like Art style: Intersect, Pinball Pulse and my NES Ambassador games on my 3DS.

Re: Feature: 31 Best DSiWare Games You Should Get Before They're Gone Forever

Art Style: Intersect, back in 2009, got me through my ex's 10 stomach surgeries and other insane stuff going on in my life at that time. It was the one game I could play and just got hooked immediately and I found it so fun and challenging, addictive and fun. I highly recommend it as my top jewel from the 'ye old' DSi library. (You guys make me feel old, Geesh! That wasn't too long ago, really, in the scheme of things. I remember waiting for your NL DSi ware reviews to be published, with bated breath.) All the Art Style games are actually wonderful, and I highly recommend them all! A+
