Re: Injustice: Gods Among Us For Wii U May Not Support Cross-Unlock Content With iOS Version

GiftedGimp

Lets not forget this comes from ign... who for many years have had very close links to Microsoft/Xbox.

As said before just because there is no in game option to buy dlc doesn't mean there wont be, the eStore is quite a closed system, compared to Xbox marketplace and Ps Store, (and probably more secure because of it tbh) and restricts how games interact with the eStore. Zen and other devs have confirmed this already, via miiverse and forums.

The devs said al platforms will get dlc, I've yet to see packaging but apparanty it does state dlc compatabiity. So in every likelyhood there will be dlc, but may not support ios unlocks.

This is IGN fueling the Anti-WiiU fire.. simple as that.

Re: Injustice: Gods Among Us For Wii U May Not Support Cross-Unlock Content With iOS Version

GiftedGimp

The Dlc option might be missing from the game menu as unlike 360, Ps3, there is no direct link from games to estore, as proven by the way Zen Pinball tells to you to open eShop to purchase more tables when you select to buy a table. When asked why this was the case Zen said its a restriction of eShop.
No point in having an option to buy dlc in game if its not going to work it only causes confusion as Zen Pinball did.

You'd probably find the no ios cross-contentent would be down to eStore resrictions.

I'm pretty sure the devs said DLC will be available on all platforms, and if this is so you'll probably get notified in game when new dlc appears.

Re: Pachter: Price Cut Unlikely To Help Wii U Without Software Support

GiftedGimp

@Jaz007 Is not personal, Sometimes what he says makes sense... not often but sometimes.
Trouble is he comes out with out there comments eg.. PsVita will be abandoned with 12 months, the DS and 3DS will never be successful, The Ps3 will not find a place in the consumers home at its current price... err ok he was right on this one at the time, he even said that people wouldn't embrace motion controllers and the Wii would become a Novelty product at one time.
He's already assuming ps4 and to a larger degree Kinectbox will be massive successes, even though he has no idea of how well the consoles will actually function compared to how well MS/Sony are saying they will function. (in features, services, reliability and not just in terms of spec performance).
In regards with WiiU.. and Nintendo... and Japanese Publishers for that matter.. he's more or less written them off as lost causes... Its only the American Company attitude of Sony thats stopped Pratcher writing them off so far.

The truth is if its not a Microsoft or a Made in USA Product.. Pratcher will mostly criticise it in some way.

In short 90% of the time he spouts crap, depending on what he thinks will get him the most press coverage at the time.

Re: Pachter: Price Cut Unlikely To Help Wii U Without Software Support

GiftedGimp

off topic, but if the US sales have dropped by all accounts the EU sales are picking up. Considering US sales were reasonable anyway the increased EU sales should counter the downturn for global sales.
Tho Pratcher wont say anything remotely positive about the WiiU... yet.

Interesting to note Shopto own WiiU only sales charts show 4 diferent console bundles in their own WiiU top 10.
Its only a reflection of how shopto's own WiiU sales are going but it does show a mix of quality games (mh3,lcu,nfs etc) and a attractive price point (some really good bundle prices at the moment) and the WiiU will sell.

http://shopto.net/wiiu

Re: Pachter: Price Cut Unlikely To Help Wii U Without Software Support

GiftedGimp

Yep its that time of the month when Pratcher can get his name in the press.

Fact is WiiU is his new platform to get headlines, 14 months ago it was the Vita, which according to him would of been abandoned by now.
Fact is WiiU has outsold and is outselling the Vita but its old news so Pratcher never bothers making comments about it as it wont get him the media coverage.

Next year it will be Ps4, or Kinectbox.. depending on which one sells less than the other.

Re: Developer Interview: Ubisoft on the Expanding Rayman Legends and Wii U's Free Challenge Mode

GiftedGimp

@Jray They wont want to upset MS/Sony but..
'EM: On Xbox 360 and PS3 we decided to keep Murfy as one of the main characters and one of the new features of the game. We think we found a good way to adapt Murfy’s gameplay to 360 and PS3 and will detail how later, so stay tuned!'
...means is Xbox version will use Kinect, and the Ps3 version will use either move and/or 6-axis Motion controls.
Thus WiiU version will be the definitive version, as Kinect isn't the most responsive device, and not everyone owns it, same for PSmove although it is responsive, and the 6axis function on the controllers is just about passable... and WiiU version has Off-screen play, although that may be possible between ps3-Vita, but remote play is something I quickly gave up on between the Vita-Ps3 as response times are terrible.

Re: Developer Interview: Ubisoft on the Expanding Rayman Legends and Wii U's Free Challenge Mode

GiftedGimp

Looking forward for the challenge app, should tide me over till the full release.
Rayman still deserves to do well at release but will (should) have some serious competition in september..
I'm ok tho I know there's going to be pleny to spend my money in and around september time so just paid my pre-order early.

Let the children boycott Ubisoft/Rayman... Meanwhile us adults can enjoy a great game created by a great developer and published by one of the very few WiiU supportive publishers

Re: Injustice: Gods Among Us Release Pushed Back To 26th April In The UK

GiftedGimp

Dosn't really effect me as not got the money to buy this this week, so was getting it next week anyway.. but still a blow.

My question is, with other recent games having distribution problems, Eg- MH3, NFSMW, is the delay also down to the same issue with distribution and would rather release a game fully available rather than partially?
Seems very strange its only the WiiU version and only by an extra week, so It can't be down to development issues.

I also Wonder if the game will release on eshop this week though, and WB simply delay retail release.

Re: Europe Now Receiving Club Nintendo Stars For All eShop Downloads

GiftedGimp

Good News, tho the rewards aren't that good compared to the US rewards.
However not having a Wii I just use the stars to get Wii Points which I use for VC games.
I figure I can play them in Wii mode and if/when they get the WiiU VC upgrade I can just pay the £1 for WiiU features. (once WiiU VC lands properly)

Re: Nintendo to Pull the Plug on Several Online Wii Channels

GiftedGimp

Nintendo will no doubt reduce services to Wii over the Next year or two.
Channels maintained by 3rd partys may stay active, Netfilx/BBCi etc, but with exception of the Wii Shop (as its part of WiiU's Wii mode) all other Nintendo ran Channels will be gradually discontinued leaving game related channels i.e Mario Kart untill last.

Am suprised about Nintendo Channel though, Surley that could of been used to encourage Wii Owners to move to WiiU as the different Wii channels/services get scaled back.

Re: Rocksteady Confident in Batman: Arkham Origins Developer

GiftedGimp

Batman is a big Franchise for WB, not just the games.
Just becuase a different developer takes the helm doesn't make it an inferior game.
The devolpers now in charge will have the tools that rocksteady would of had with WB games closely watching them.

I'm expecting this to be Just as good as past efforts. Time will tell and its always a bit scary when a great franchise is placed in the hands of someone new. But when you look into it many other franchises have been handled by different developers, and 'most' of the time you wouldn't know if you wasn't told.

Re: Injustice: Gods Among Us Will Support Off-TV Play On Wii U

GiftedGimp

Swipe moves should work well.. they did on Vita Mortal Kombat.
In that it was on Finishers and X-ray moves that could by done by swiping the screen with a set gesture, So imagine this will use a simular system.
Didn't realise it was out so soon, Still not got my hands on MH3, or Lego City, and Deux eX is out in a couple of weeks...
Whats all this nonsense about no games coming out on WiiU?

Re: Talking Point: The Next-Gen Console War is Wii U's to Lose

GiftedGimp

I don't think people appreciate how tablet gaming is evolving.
More and more tablets will accept a standard controler via blutooth, more and more 'core style' games made for andriod also have control schemes to use a controller.
I can even use a Ps3 controller with my tablet if I wanted, and link it to my tv via Hdmi.
Things are changing even more, on the tablet/android scene, with Nvidia and Ouya, Android based consoles coming out, with Full standard controller and TV connectivity.

Of course there will be Pc gamers and the Steambox players taking a share of the gaming market aswell.

This is why, in terms of the next gen, all the negativity that surround the WiiU, (I know this isn't a negative article about WiiU), at the moment is null subject. MS, Sony, and Nintendo's real threat comes from the cheaper, more flexible gaming alternatives that will become available.

Nintendo wont win or lose the next gen battle, but nor will MS or Sony.
But Nintendo could be in the strongest position for the future, MS/Sony will be locked to thier hardware for the next 7/8 years, within 5 years the gaming market will be totally different than it is now.
Given how spec wise the WiiU compares to Ps4/Kinectbox, Nintendo could aim for a shorter 4 or 5 year lifespan For the WiiU and bring out a new system ( possibly combining the portabilty of DS with a standard console, they have/are merging both departments) that is more inline with the gaming market requirments at that time.

Re: Deep Silver Has "No Plans" To Support Wii U

GiftedGimp

Dead Island, was a wast of money, traded my version in within a week, as for Saints Row, I'm more bothered about GTA games not benig on WiiU tbh.

One less developer for WiiU isn't good tho, but it's probably more to it than whats being let on, not just userbase.
Forget about them, move on and look forward to games that are coming to WiiU, Batman, Splintercell, and all the rest.

Re: Talking Point: The Next-Gen Console War is Wii U's to Lose

GiftedGimp

Good Article.
There are True, Hardcore Brand followers for Nintendo, MS, and Sony who will buy the latest hardware regardless of any other factor.
These groups are only a small % of the gaming public.

As for the rest of the gaming public, half will buy system based on price point, and often have little knowledge of what the system is actually capable off. The other half take some time to find out the plus/minus points of each system vs Price before making a decision of what to buy.

I still say by the end of the 'next-gen' Approx 7yrs from now) Nintendo, Ms and Sony will all have simular sized userbases and game sale attach-rates because there will be so many changes to how the gaming industry works, what gaming device options are available and what the average gamer expects/wants.

Re: Batman: Arkham Origins Confirmed for Wii U

GiftedGimp

Dont read if you've not complete Arkham City.

Basing Origin before Asylum/City is probably the right direction if you think about it.
Considering the ending of City, would any Batman game be he same without The Joker?
I just hope Mark Hamill returns to Voice Joker, he does a great job of it.

Re: Nintendo Files New "Remotely Controlled Mobile Device Control System" Patent

GiftedGimp

This is only a patent, so doubt we'd see anything of it for a good few years, Its probably Nintendo getting an idea and securing the idea for their own use.

In theory, a Wii-Remote.. or two, three or even four (one for each limb) could be linked to WiiU. The Gamepad used for giving commands, and some sort of game implementing the robot could be devised.

I wouldn't put it past Nintendo, they often come out with ideas/concepts that are 'out-of-the-norm' Virtual boy, Motion Controllers, dual screens on DS/3DS and now the Gamepad, are just a few, though this one seems more outside the norm than usual.

Re: Batman: Arkham Origins Confirmed for Wii U

GiftedGimp

WB are still the publishers, so I'm expecting the standard as Asylum/City, its WB's franchise and can't see them wanting to upset the people at DC with a bad game, or ruin the reputation of the franchise.

But its always a little bit scary when a new development team take the helm of a great franchise.

Re: Nintendo Working On Wii Remote Fast Charging Battery Pack

GiftedGimp

Don't really think its that much of an issue for Wiimotes being used with WiiU tbh.
I have only had to change the batteries in 1 remote since January, and they were the cheapo ones you get with the Wiimote.
If cheap batteries last around 3 months, then any decent ones should last much longer.

I would much rather have an official Long life battery pack for the Gamepad. That would be of more use to most people.

Re: Talking Point: The Terrible Timing of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate's Stock Issues

GiftedGimp

Its worth remembering if your using the internal memory, its so slow to write to, anyone with a HDD can verify this, move a download to the internal memory then back to the HDD, although The eStore isn't the quickest to download from, downoading to a hdd is quicker.
Even if you tend to buy discs its probably worth buying a small, even as low as 160gig hdd just for situations like this.

Re: Interview: Michael Pachter On Wii U, 3DS And The Challenges Facing Nintendo This Generation

GiftedGimp

Patcher is an analyst, he looks at whats going on now, and then tries to guess whats going to happen next.
Often his points have some validity but then he makes predictions which are never correct, or at lease biased.
For anyone to know what will happen to Nintendo/WiiU (and the other consoles) they would have know every bit of information about the present and future plans that Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Every developer, and Every Publisher has as well as know excactly what every consumer is and will be thinking.
Impossible.

Best thing to do, expect great praise for Microsoft, a mixture of love n hate for Sony and dismissive predictions for Nintendo. (Generaly his comments/predictions follow these rules).
Then when you've seen/heard them, Ignore them, enjoy your gaming console/s and wait to see whats going to happen.

Re: Talking Point: The Terrible Timing of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate's Stock Issues

GiftedGimp

NFSMW was also in short supply, Many people asking if others new where they could find a copy in stock on miiverse and various forums.
Nintendo obviously not responsible for distribution, but begs the question, was there somesort of distribution problem outside of Nintendo's control.
From manufacture game discs will be sent to only a few distribution centers in each region which are responsible for distribution to smaller more localized distribution centers, who then send games on to retailers or retialers own distribution offices who then divide stock between their stores with reserves for online purchasing.
Its quite a complex process, and although normaly works without hitch from time to time problems can surface.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Handing Out Free Dev Kits To Generate Interest In Wii U

GiftedGimp

I brought thus up on the forum a couple days ago, as was hoping NL could find a bit more information on the matter.
Reading through the various Tweets, It seems that it was something Nintendo were giving at least some devs free kits for some time.
Still would like to know if the dev kits are only being given to small 'bedroom' indie devs, or any dev including those normally associated with bigger game releases.

Re: Warren Spector: "Consoles Are Going to be Up Against Some Stiff Competition" in the Home Entertainment Space

GiftedGimp

Future of all consoles is going to hardover the next few years.
Tablets are getting more powerfull, Android consoles are just around the corner too.
Already there are loads of games that let you attach a controller to your tablet for extra control, a lot of tablets have hdmi out already and both controller support and hdmi out will become the norm as tablets are more designed towards competing within the gamers space, aswell as being A portable Do everything else device.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Should Make EA Co-operation a Priority

GiftedGimp

As for why Nintendo fans don't buy 3rd party games (in general) for thier Nintendo console when its available on other platforms.

This statement is true, to a point, there was a number of reasons why this was so on Wii. No proper online infrastructure, usually no voice comms, graphically massive difference, to name but a few.

Nintendo are still behind MS/Sony online services, but over the course of time this gap will lessen but now there is a proper online infrastructure, Now you do have voice comms, (maybe the odd exception), Graphically,is still largly debatible, obviously will be better than current gen but vs next gen size of the gap is still unknown, however the gamepad could be something that adds something more than what graphics alone achieve.
All this means is, If 3rd party developers offer something different/better than whats on the other platforms then Nintendo fans would buy WiiU versions of a game available on other platforms. Developers offering the exact same experience found on other platforms with no benifits will find WiiU owners opt for alternative platforms due to the size of the community that has built up over the past 7/8 years.
Ps4/Nextbox will have a low community by comparison for a few years too, with no (or no proper) backwards compatibility you will also find some people will keep thier 360/ps3 and opt to buy the Ps3 version of a Ps4 game or 360 version of a Kinectbox game, just to play thier buddys online who yet to 'upgrade'

NFSMW, is a game I own on Ps3, but I brought the WiiU version as criterion added better visuals, off screen play, and a co-driver mode plus a few other tweaks here n there.
Deux Ex, fully intergrated dlc, gamepad features, re-balanced gameplay, off screen play, improved visuals is another 3rd party title that nintendo fans will probably buy.
Both are examples of when a 3rd party developers makes it worth while, chances are Nintendo fans will buy thier games.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Should Make EA Co-operation a Priority

GiftedGimp

Years ago on the Original Xbox EA wanted to charge for EA server services on Online games. Microsoft told them no, and EA quickly ceased publishing on Xbox.
NFL Fever replaced Madden, PES replaced Fifa, on so on and so on.
It did very little harm to the xbox not having EA's support. Eventually after a year or two EA changef thier mind and suddenly EA games appeared on Xbox, with full online functionality and no charges.
Fast forward to 2011, EA saying they are partnering with Nintendo, saying the next gen will not be decided by the console specs, but by innovation which with the gamepad nintendo is bringing, blah, blah, blah.
2012, EA want to run Nintendo Network via Origin. Nintendo say No (deja-vu), As the year progressed Ps4 is 'THE' console to lead the next gen.. according to EA.
Now into 2013, EA have got a excitingbnew Partnership with Microsoft, EA suddenly promoting the Kinectbox as 'THE' console of 'Next-gen' (probably due to blocking used games) as For WiiU We 'Currently' have no plans says EA.

Point is this is how EA operate, they switch sides at a flip of a coin if they think they will benifit.
But as when the refused to support Xbox, down the line they will support WiiU, Its obvious that they will at some point.
Moore in the interview said currently no plans for Wiiu, not perminatly. At this moment in time EA are maximizing thier partnership with MS, while trying to get a foothold on PS4, aswell as making sure they keep the massive userbase (and MS/Sony) that is on ps3/360 happy by supporting those platforms.

Do Nintendo need EA? no, as long as alternatives are provided for missing games either 1st or 3rd party (e.g PES for FiFA).
Do EA need Nintendo? Not at the moment.
Will EA Need Nintendo? More than likely, rising development costs, more gaming device options, Android consoles etc, will effect userbase numbers for all consoles, thus potential sales/profits made from each console.

Re: Criterion Working On "Amazing" Unannounced Racer For 2013

GiftedGimp

News Sites and Gamers alike have headlined that EA no longer supporting WiiU.
But did anyone actually read the full interview with Moore?
What he actually said is 'We Currently have no plans for WiiU'
Notice he said 'Currently' fact is EA would be foolish to write of WiiU this early into its lifespan, they still support the much, much worse selling Vita.
Yeah, at the Moment the currently announced games are not comming to WiiU, but titles other un-announced titles might.
EA have partnered with MS so are putting a lot of effort there and are trying to get a foothold on Ps4, obviously they will still support ps3/360 due to its userbase, and because of the smaller userbase WiiU development has been put on hold.

Its worth remembering EA stopped supporting the Original Xbox, this was due to EA wanting to charge for online service through thier servers. Microsoft refused so EA spat out their dummy... simular to how they have with Nintendo telling them no to running Nintendo Neywork via Origin.
Of cousrse, a year or so later EA changed their mind and started publishing on the Xbox again.
Same thing will happen on WiiU, probably sooner than Later EA will be announcing WiiU games, So there is a possibility of Criterions next racer turning up on WiiU.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto: People Need To Be Patient With Wii U

GiftedGimp

This problem stems from such a long lifespan of 360/Ps3, and people forgetting what a console launch period is like.
In a lot of ways gaming has changed, Dlc is as standard now, Download games are too. The demographic of gamers has changed, it now includes those who play Andriod/iOS games, and countless other changes have happened within the gaming industry since when the 360 was launched and now.
But One thing hasn't, and thats the fact that for the first 6 months a New console does not have many games, its a good year after initial launch before there is a regular stream of a couple of games a month.
To be far with the eStore and idie games being launched there are more games being released during the WiiU's inital kaunch period than any other system except possibly the 360, which had it xbla games filling up the game release numbers at launch.

Re: Aliens: Colonial Marines Cancelled on Wii U

GiftedGimp

Unless they invested heavily on re-making the game and re-marketing a new, improved version it was never going to sell on WiiU, apart from the odd person willing to take a chance.
Its nothing to do with WiiU system sales, fact is a lot of money would of been already invested making the WiiU version and guarantee that had the other versions been actually any good, or at least not recieved so much negativity It would of been released on WiiU.
Its just a case of not throwing more money down the pan.

Re: UK Retailer GAME to Sell Tablet Devices

GiftedGimp

The Game Stores around here, nottingham, have been selling ipads, Nexus tablets aswell as other brands tablets since before xmas... so this isn't new to me really.

Game and other Video game only retailers will need to evolve the buisiness practices, times are changing and over the next few years will change even more due to more games being available as downloads, second hand game markets being phased out with either full on system lock-outs or 1 time use codes.
Add in the steambox, andriod consoles and further developments on tablet devices, the gaming industry will have a very splintered user base as console and Pc gaming has to share its market to some degree with iOS,Android and what ever else comes along.

Re: Sega Adds Disclaimer to Aliens: Colonial Marines Trailers

GiftedGimp

IF Sega do eventually release an improved version no WiiU, (its still listed on sega website), to have any chance of selling it they will have to release a demo on eShop to proove to WiiU owners the game is better than what the other versions are at least a month before its release.

Re: Sega Adds Disclaimer to Aliens: Colonial Marines Trailers

GiftedGimp

@DStroke Thats what I think they will do more tbh. They need to make some money back on the game and Sega could figure a remastered version on WiiU, which they hyped as being the best version could be the way to do it.
If that is the plan at Sega I would expect WiiU version getting hyped from August time with a september/october release.

Or they may just wait for ppl to forget about it and release the WiiU version as is without any sort of fanfare.

Re: Amazon Promoting Rival Consoles On Nintendo Product Pages

GiftedGimp

Amazon always gives alternative like for like products.. so if your veiwing WiiU console then an alternative will be shown. Looking at a Sony TV? again an alternative will be shown. Looking at.. you get the point.

Its no conspiracy, unless while viewing a ps3 or 360 consoles there no links to WiiU consoles.
However as Amazon tailor ads/links to your shopping/veiwing habits if for the past 5 years you've been buying Xbox/Ps3 games and accessories from amazon you will get Xbox/Ps3 links/ads.

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution Developer Hopes The Game Will Boost Wii U Sales

GiftedGimp

Yeh its a older game, but this could be another NFSMW.
aswell as using the gamepad screen its got All DLC, properly intergrated not 'added-on', they've reworked the bosses so stealth is viable and from all accounts even though looking stunning on ps3/360/PC, this looks even better on WiiU.
In theory this could be classed as a alternative version rather than a 'port' in traditional sense.

Tbh I completed this on Ps3, but only once and was feeling that I wouldn't bother with the WiiU version but the more I hear about it, the more I want the WiiU version.

ItS also worth remembering theres a big deus ex following, but many of its fans were severly dissapointed that full start to finish steath was not viable on the other versions. It could help sell a few more WiiU units much like MH3 has with its dedicated fans.

Re: Epic Games Rules Out Unreal Engine 4 For Wii U

GiftedGimp

@Kage_88 People forget how many developers and publishers have gone under the past generation with only the biggest or those linked to big game releases getting any press.
Rising development costs on current gen are going to rise massively for ps4/nextbox and this could play well into Nintendo's favour.
Even EA and other non-WiiU-Supportive developers/publishers could be forced into supporting the WiiU. The cheaper development cost means a quicker profit return, which could cover shortfalls in profits on the far higher development costs involved creating games for Ps4/Nextbox.
