Re: Famitsu Interview Hints That Masahiro Sakurai Could Step Back From Directing Games

DrRandle

@ShadJV "I’ve replayed through it and know several friends who did," You're right, sorry, it wasn't everyone you know, it was the few people who could tolerate somebody like you long enough to be in the same room, which, to my point you clearly missed, is not at all remotely close to representative of the Smash Bros. player base. And in case you think that's not enough, you'll be hard pressed to find a single review of that game that doesn't mention how actively not great that mode is. I mean I don't know what you think your microcosm represents, but I'm talking reality.

Re: Famitsu Interview Hints That Masahiro Sakurai Could Step Back From Directing Games

DrRandle

@ShadJV You're the ones projecting YOUR views. You say "everyone I know" like it's more than a handful of the millions of people that owned Smash. You're in the minority because most people rarely /finish/ single player campaigns in games, statistics I can prove if you'd like me to, much less play them again. Smash is a Multi-Player focused game, it always has been, and always will be. Everything else is bonus content.

Re: Famitsu Interview Hints That Masahiro Sakurai Could Step Back From Directing Games

DrRandle

@Yorumi Your observations are woefully inaccurate.
"Tripping punishes skill" is incorrect. Tripping is a goofy mechanic that helps make the game more chaotic and goofy, which was -always- Smash Bros.'s strongest identity. An option to disable it would have been nice, sure, but he knew exactly what he was doing with it.
"No subspace emissary" isn't (solely) because it'll just be put into YouTube... It's because it was an unsuccesful experiment, in his eyes. I feel that mode proved that the series really doesn't fit a single player platforming narrative well at all, and if the only thing to do passed mediocre gameplay is have cutscenes, then why spend the enormous amount of time and resources on it at all? Anyone who played that mode (we'll say 99.99% because I'm sure you'll say "NOT ME") only played through that once to unlock everything, and never really looked back as Smash is a Multi-Player focussed game, and always has been. If anything should be cut for time and money, it's single-player.
Sorry the guy who makes these games likes Fire Emblem, I guess? I mean, you're not complaining about the 9 Mario Bros. characters... Plus, every Fire Emblem character added is relevant at the time they were added, so why is it a bad thing to add them? They all make sense, they're super popular, and besides Marth and Lucina, they're all wholly unique and fun so who cares where they came from? Stop adding pokemon too, I guess, because soon there's too many of them, right? That makes sense, right?

Re: Famitsu Interview Hints That Masahiro Sakurai Could Step Back From Directing Games

DrRandle

@Timsworld Dude, seriously. What is your malfunction? "too stupid and lazy" ? You're insanely ignorant of reality, and if that's your attitude, you don't deserve anything you want. It's repulsive.

Anyway, the thought of a Smash without Sakurai does kinda bum me out because i feel like he 'gets' the majority of what makes each Nintendo bit great in terms of presentation. That said, Nintendo's been doing a great job reinventing a lot of it's core franchises lately. Maybe a fresh pair of eyes can help do some neat things to the series!

Re: Soapbox: Call Of Duty Can Work On Switch, Activision Just Needs To Pull The Trigger

DrRandle

We need to just be happy with what we have. I'm not saying wishful thinking is bad, but it never stops until it becomes this fevered vitriol born out of nothing but people's own twisted desires. Just be happy. There's plenty to love on Switch right now. Stop clawing for all of these bad things, enjoy the good things we have, and let yourself be surprised in the future, rather than set Nintendo up to fail like this industry does every 5 years.

Re: Soapbox: Call Of Duty Can Work On Switch, Activision Just Needs To Pull The Trigger

DrRandle

The only real problem here is that you're asking a developer to make a specific game for one SKU. Either the Switch is going to get a dumbed down port (MW4 on Wii) or the other systems are going to get a "remastered" port of the Switch game. Either way means there's no real incentive to do that. The cost of making a Switch-sclusive game is too much of a risk for a very small reward. The Switch is doing well now, sure, but 5 million on one console versus 15 million between 3 other platforms? Which one would you bet makes more money?

Instead of asking for all of these ports and downgrades and all this unreasonable, unwishful thinking, why don't we just want unique and amazing games? Why is all anybody on any forum asking for is more of the same? I feel like more than ever, everyone is holding Nintendo and other developers to this impossible standard on a Nintendo console? Nobody asks Sony for every PS1 game on PS4 the way everybody asks for the same 10 NES games we've all played a thousand times, and can even be played on a better device (NES classic).

Every generation I think everybody's derisive, undeserved mud slinging for failure to be an impossible device reaches it's peak, and with every new system, I am somehow disappointed by how much deeper everyone reaches.

Re: Nintendo Wants To Make Greater Use Of Downloadable Content In The Future

DrRandle

DLC of quantifiable content is fine. If I know what I'm getting with my money, cool. blind boxes can go stop being a thing now.

Games are just getting more expensive to make, and the more they do, the devs have to start making up the money somewhere. Nobody's sitting line to pay more than 60$ for a new game, so they have to start making that revenue somewhere!

Re: Guide: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For February And March

DrRandle

I think a lot of Debbie Downers on here are totally unaware of Penny Punching Princess and The Longest 5 Minutes, both of which look extremely entertaining. Also going to get DQ Builders, Kirby, Bayonetta, Runner 3 (another new game). Scribblenauts could be cool... not sure, gotta see more on that one.
I miss having enough time that this kind of list was 'slim pickings' for me.
And if we want to compare and contrast, I can't think of any game coming to PS4 I'd want in the next two months.

Re: The Dream Of Crowdfunded Switch Dock SFANS Has Turned Into A Nightmare

DrRandle

I've backed a number of projects on Kickstarter and haven't really been "duped" on any of them. Mighty No. 9 turned out to not be very good, but the number of board games and Video Games Live albums I've received through this more than make it obvious that crowd funding -can- and -does- work, but like anything, It might require a bit of research into who and what you're buying into beforehand.
I've had plenty of things /look/ good but not be good in things that are already out. Movies, games, and board games that I played in person at a convention have all had their share of already being released, and still being bad.
Long story short? Don't hate the system, hate the jerks who abuse it.

Re: Smash-Style Brawler Rivals of Aether Is Headed To Switch

DrRandle

Ofall the Smash Bros clones out there, this one is definitely the best. I've had an absolutely killer time with it on Steam. I followed Dan's work as far back as Super Smash Land, a gameboy style de-make of Smash, and Tower of Heaven. Really glad to see this making its way to the Switch!

Re: Editorial: Wii Remote Pointer vs. Switch Gyro Controls - The Resident Evil Test

DrRandle

I agree on the RE4Wii version; it's just too good. Even still, using the motion to tighten my aim in Breath of the Wild has been an absolute blast. I find myself trying to play other 3D games (shooting arrows in Moridor, for example) and naturally tilting my hands expecting it to help me navigate my shot. It doesn't, I have to use the right stick, and it's kind of awful. I really wish folks on other consoles would tap into this kind of gameplay. I am fairly positive PS4 controllers are motion-based (I know PS3 was, did they remove that entirely?) But I don't think Xbox is. Maybe I'm wrong! Either way, motion aiming is great.
I do have slightly more difficulty with it on hand-held mode, tilting the system seems to mess with my brain in judging the angle. But that's barely worth mentioning compared to how much I love using it still. Glad to hear the RE:Rev games got it right; I picked them up and am excited to check 'em out!
Thanks for the article!

Re: Random: Yoko Taro Shares Impressions on Tiny Metal After a 5 Minute Preview

DrRandle

@Kienda @Nicolai - Just to clarify, the point about it was not wanting to 'bore' end-users, because most average folks probably don't care how a game comes together. The fact that we're on a website dedicated to video games on a regular basis probably leaves us as the exception, who WOULD like to hear more. It's definitely not meant to be arrogance, he's just trying to be considerate. I think he views the mask as a way of 'entertaining' people, while retaining his modest opinions.

Re: Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 & 2 Coming To Switch With amiibo Support

DrRandle

@StephenYap3 I mean, that's totally cool if you're not interested in the games, that's your bag. But that's different from "Square Enix doesn't support the Switch." They are totally on board supporting it, you're just not interested in what Square Enix as a publisher is doing these days. Again, totally fine, just a very stark difference.

Re: Random: Yoko Taro Shares Impressions on Tiny Metal After a 5 Minute Preview

DrRandle

I'd love to see the original Nier come to Switch! Porting Automata would be quite a challenge as it was designed for PS4 and XboneX. (I just realized if you fully abreviated X Box One X, it would be XBOX) I'd love to see it, but there would have to be a lot of concessions to make that work well. I have it on PC, so maybe just play it when RainAway comes out! Haha.
As for this video: I like how Yoko Taro was basically "I don't know. I played it for five minutes. Seems good? I guess?" But of course the first thing he picked up was the merciless slaughter of hundreds of human lives. That's the kind of thing he would notice. He's gone on record as stating Drakkengard was designed partially to make a statement on the wonton killing of Dynasty Warrior type games.

Re: Mega Man 11 Confirmed For Switch In 2018

DrRandle

I think the animation is surprisingly slick in motion. It retains the frames of previous games' pixel art, while applying a psudo-3D layer to it. I admit the screenshots were kinda meh, but seeing it in motion made me like it way more.

Re: Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 & 2 Coming To Switch With amiibo Support

DrRandle

@StephenYap3 I'll have to disagree with you there as Octopath Traveller is still one of my most anticipated Switch games right now, and I Am Setsuna is pretty keen as well. They're even talking about wanting to get FF15 on there, and yeah it's the 'mobile' version, but that full version was never going to play on a Switch.

Re: Video: Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp's Delays Reportedly Caused By Development Challenges

DrRandle

I don't understand why folks were expecting it to be a "true" Animal Crossing experience on the phone. It was always going to be some kind of miniaturized version, and I think they nailed it pretty well. It's obviously not giving me that 'full game' vibe because... you know... it's not meant to. It's meant to remind people how cool Animal Crossing is, and how cool it will inevitably be on Switch.

Re: Crawl Will Pit Friends Against Each Other on Nintendo Switch

DrRandle

I'm a huge fan of this game on Steam, been playing it for a while. The art is phenomenal, and works well with the dark-arts-meets-technology theme hidden in there ("prayer.exe not found"). The music is beautiful and dissonant, and it's just an all around cool idea for asymmetrical multiplayer. This is a -perfect- type of couch co-op for Switch, and I highly, highly recommend it!

Re: Review: Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (3DS)

DrRandle

Guys, it's an arbitrary number appended to a review all based on one person's opinion. It does not need all of you to comment on the exact nature of it in such disrespectful, dismissive tones. The game has an 87 on MetaCritic right now: for all intents and purposes, game looks good. Don't like Pokemon? Then why are you reading a review for a Pokemon game?

Re: Random: Shin Megami Tensei Fans Voted For Their Top Demon, We Kinda Wish They Hadn't

DrRandle

So if you go back to that Switch unveiling press conference thing, they had a trailer for an as-of-then unnamed Shin Megami Tensei game (now known to be SMT5), and they tucked Mara in the back of the video.
Nintendo showed a giant penis demon on the public unveiling of their new console, alongside announcements to games up to Mario Odyssey. Just a funny thing I think only people 'in the know' would have noticed.

Re: YouTuber Gets Banned From Site For Streaming Super Mario Odyssey

DrRandle

All streaming is on the good faith of the companies anyway as you're essentially exposing the entirety of a product that isn't yours to do so with. It's basic copyright stuff, and most streamers don't have any more legs to stand on than the kindness of the people who make the games.
Also it's a suspension, not a ban. They are different, and the headline should be updated.
