Re: Poll: How Many 3DS Consoles Have You Owned?

DizziParadise

Four. Zelda OG 3DS, which was too small for my ageing eyes so I got the Pikachu XL when that was released. The hinge started to crack after a while so I replaced it with the AC Happy Home Designer New 3DS XL, then the Pokemon SM New 3DS XL because I couldn't resist it. Still have all of them, the AC and Pokemon ones are in pretty much daily use still as I work my way slowly through my backlog, and the Zelda one is almost as-new. Pikachu I'm considering repairing the crack with some plastic weld at some point but the hinge on these things is always the weak point. That said, I have a red Mario DSi XL that was the last one in the shop, ridiculously low price, just before the 3DS was released, which has seen a lot of use and is still pretty much perfect condition.

Hubby had the OG blue 3DS, replaced with the Majoras Mask New 3DS XL (which is a thing of beauty and I now use it for trading Pokemon with myself since he is almost solely a Steam Deck gamer these days). Child #1 got the blue one as as hand-me-down but didn't take to it apart from few Pokemon games. Child #2 has a red OG 2DS which came with Pokemon OR, an AC new 2DS XL (now with a broken hinge and a replacement top screen) and a black / turquoise New 2DS XL. So between us this household has a grand total of 9 3/2DS consoles.

Edit: make that 10. I forgot hubby had the Pearl White XL that came with Mario Kart iirc.

Re: Poll: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Is Out Today On Switch, Are You Getting It?

DizziParadise

Mine arrived this morning, it is now half past midnight and I could happily play it all night. I don't know if I'm just old (got into pokemon originally because of pokemon pinball and have played most of the mainline games and spinoffs over the past 20-some years) or not fussy enough or what, but this is the most fun I've had with a pokemon game since Silver on the GBC and the most fun I've had with any game since BotW. I love the mechanics, the rumble is just right and adds so much to the experience, I could run around Hisui all day just catching pokemon and throwing them at trees, rocks etc. The areas are not empty, at least to me, they are full of pokemon and crafting materials. In short I love it, 9 out of 10 from me and the lost 1 is only because the graphics could and should have been better.

Re: UK Newspaper Comes Under Fire For Hinting That Video Games Are "The Next Global Pandemic"

DizziParadise

Yawn. I'm 51. I've been gaming since 1982. This is at least the sixth (probably more) time some clueless organisation has tried to incite moral panic over games. Add to that the several times in my life the music I like (metal, goth, rock, etc) has been similarly demonised, and all the times I was told as a kid I shouldn't be reading that book and should be reading this one instead and I have come to the inevitable conclusion that some people are going to be outraged by anything pleasurable, far more often than people are going to be actually clinically addicted to that pleasurable thing. I'll stick with the games thanks and leave the Telegraph's brand of 'news' to people who are unable to think for themselves.

Re: Community: What Was Your First Ever Nintendo Game?

DizziParadise

Donkey Kong on ZX Spectrum in about 1982. For my other half it was the same game on a table-top arcade machine, probably the same year. He later went the Playstation route but I converted him to Nintendo with a red DS Lite and then a blue 3DS and Ocarina of Time.

I remember being super jealous of the kids in the playground with Game & Watch in the 80s, so was really stoked to get the new Mario one for Christmas 40ish years later... First Nintendo console I owned was a purple GBC with Pokemon Silver, skipped GBA due to lack of funds then saved for a pink DS Lite and have had several iterations of every handheld console since. Both my kids are Nintendo kids, oldest now works in the industry and cites Pokemon Yellow (bought second hand along with a second hand GBC the Christmas he was 6) as his earliest inspiration to get into coding, although he's more gaming PC and Xbox these days. Youngest got a 2DS and Pokemon Omega Ruby the Christmas she was 6, having played on my old pink DS Lite since she was 3, got a Switch Lite a few years later, and she also wants to be a coder (she's currently learning on Scratch and designing crazy levels on SMM2).

Re: Nintendo Has Worked To Escape Its 'Childish' Reputation, Says Miyamoto

DizziParadise

I'm 50, and therefore far too old to give a stuff what other people think of the things I love. I've been a gamer since 1982 (ZX Spectrum) and people thought I was weird then because "video games are for boys". Phooey to that, I play what I want and what I want is nearly always on Nintendo. Got a Gameboy Color over 20 years ago and have been almost 100% handheld and almost 100% Nintendo since then, Pokemon saved my life in my early 30s and I have never looked forward to a game so much as AC New Horizons or Breath of the Wild 2. I'm always glad there are different games for different tastes, nobody's forcing anyone to buy any game in particular so if colourful escapism aint your thing you can still always "f*** s*** up" in Saints Row if you want, or "romance" your way through every possible female NPC in Witcher 3, even on Nintendo. On the bus. I'm quite happy to stick with Pokemon, AC, Dragon Quest and whatever else takes my fancy - I have a huge backlog so obviously that would be a lot.

Re: Video: Heartwarming Animal Crossing: New Horizons Trailer Shows How The Game Brings Friends Together

DizziParadise

Honestly, anyone looking at this ad and seeing some kind of promotion of 'the gay agenda' (whatever that is. Maybe to have glitter and fabulousness in everything? Not sure what would be the downside of that tbh) has obviously never been a teenage girl. I was a teenage girl once (a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away admittedly) and am now the mother of a pre-teenage girl, and this resonated with me. I have never been a gay teenage girl though, so if this was supposed to be a coded promotion of the game specifically towards gay teenage girls it would almost certainly have gone over my head anyway. I thought it was a lovely ad, showing a positive dynamic that is often ignored in media and advertising (teenage girls are not always about the dramaz, but you wouldn't know that from looking at most media including them).

Re: New Theory Suggests Nintendo Has Tried To Prevent Switch Lite Stick Drift After All

DizziParadise

@NEStalgia Calibration says it's fine on mine, too. Mine are the original red/blue set that came with my Switch. And I think mine was second wave? So maybe a week or so after release date, so they are 2 1/2 years old now and have been used a fair bit. I'm not hard on my stuff though, apart from damage to a DS Lite caused by small daughter and a collapsed thumb stick on my first 3DS (which I replaced) all my gadgets from GBC onwards are still in full, original, working order.

The purple/orange set were slightly cheaper than the new blue/yellow and about the same as the original red/blue when I bought them. And purple/orange is very Halloween, so right up my alley! I guess if they last another 2 1/2 years it's not so bad. But I am going to get a set of replacement sticks once these new controllers have arrived and see if I can fix this one. I don't want to do that without having a new set in case I get it horribly wrong and then have to be without my Switch at all while I wait for repairs/new controllers. It's not a bad thing to have a second set of joycons, but the price... ouch. Sounds like I should think myself lucky to have got this far on the original set!

Re: New Theory Suggests Nintendo Has Tried To Prevent Switch Lite Stick Drift After All

DizziParadise

@NEStalgia that's what I'm doing. I have the purple & orange set on pre-order and I hope they get here on or very soon after release because the drift on my left joycon is driving me crazy. My DQB2 character keeps walking left, off the bridge I'm trying to build.

The drift on mine is sometimes a bit... odd. It can be fine, character not moving and I'm not touching the stick at all. And then the character starts slowly walking left. Tap the stick right and she moves right and stops, then after a beat or two starts moving left again, with no input on the stick at all. Other times its difficult to impossible to line up for a big bash or using the trowel, because there is no precision. Try to line it up, it goes too far right, adjust and it goes too far left. I didn't have this problem a couple of weeks ago though, so it's unlikely to be user error. Here's hoping the purple & orange set have the new version.

Re: Review: My Time At Portia - An Engaging Life Sim That Will Eat Up Your Spare Time

DizziParadise

I should be at least two hours into this game by now, but I still haven't received my code. I backed this game over 18 months ago, and us console backers have already been left hanging for months (the game should have been released on console late last year) and now it seems lots of us are still hanging well into release day. I really wish now I hadn't backed it. I could have downloaded it this morning and be happily chopping down trees and killing llamas by now.

Re: Hands On: Getting Our Hands Dirty With My Time At Portia On Switch

DizziParadise

@vorpal, no thanks necessary, honestly. We have kids. It gave me no end of delight to be able to tell my daughter, a few years ago when she was about 5 and same-sex marriage became legal in our country, that if she still wanted to marry her best friend when they were grown up, she could. My best friend is gay (she's a grandmother now) and the pain she went through is very similar to what you say here. Nobody should ever have to go through that. It hurts my heart that anyone has to. So thanks to you, for standing up and putting yourself out there and engaging with and explaining to the clueless - you had (and sadly still have) so much more potentially to lose than we do, so your courage is way greater than ours.

Re: Hands On: Getting Our Hands Dirty With My Time At Portia On Switch

DizziParadise

@vorpal, just wanted to add to hubby's comment above. I'm a straight woman (see hubby above grin) but I played as and married a woman in Stardew Valley. Hubby's a straight bloke but also played as and married a woman in Skyrim (although I think his penchant for stealing everyone's clothes and leaving them in their underwear had more to do with that than anything else). We're still very enthusiastically married to each other. Having looked a lot at MTaP (and being a backer) I will probably marry a woman in that game as well. And I'll still be enthusiastically married to Mii_duck even after what I hope will be many, many happy hours in Portia.

I am so glad that games like this now allow everyone to choose for themselves and for their own reasons (here's hoping Tomodachi Life 2 will have the option for same-sex relationships, for example. I really want Dumbledore Mii to marry Captain Jack Sparrow Mii...)

Re: Team17 Outlines Its Exciting Plans For 2019, Some "Amazing" Games In The Works

DizziParadise

My Time At Portia was supposed to come out of early access back in October. The devs said in January 2018, when it was released as early access, that they wanted to give it 9 months in early access to iron out the wrinkles and add a few things in that the players wanted. Since then they've been adding content and tweaking a bit here and a bit there, and us poor saps who backed the console version are getting very little news. Meanwhile, people playing on Steam have been playing for over a year, and those are the people who get to suggest more content - for a game they've been playing for months - and the devs are happy to continue to develop the game, instead of calling it done, finishing it and getting it onto consoles.

I paid for this game nearly a year and a half ago. I'm losing faith that this game will ever be finished. It's looking to be a great game, the reviews are mostly very positive, the devs are responsive to what the players say they want, but I want my money back. I can see the game being added to, tweaked, added to some more, until the end of time, without ever being actually finished and a console version becoming available.

Re: Guide: All Pokémon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Eevee! Switch Games, Bundles, and Accessories and Where to Buy Them

DizziParadise

The game by itself is less than £40 on base.com, it's actually very slightly cheaper (like, pennies cheaper) to buy the game from there and the Poke Ball Plus (£45) from the Nintendo store than to buy any of the game/ball bundles I've seen. Even the base.com bundle price is high (£89). And the digital download from Amazon costs £5 more than the cart, which is just plain silly.

@ThanosReXXX If you look at Helen Sham's Facebook page and the videos therein, she is definitely female. She doesn't show her face (don't blame her, the interwebz can be a scary place for women) or speak, but definitely female. And I NEED one of the Batmen! Edit - there is one photo of her standing behind the Lego arcade machine, at least I assume it's her because her face matches her avatar.

Re: Nintendo Switch Now Has Over 700 Games

DizziParadise

@Anti-Matter The devs said in an update some time ago that an October release was the goal, and the Switch version will be out at the same time as the PS4/Xbox version. They wanted it to be in early access on Steam for 9 months to iron everything out, and that 9 months would end in October. There was a fairly major update recently as well. The PS4 version is being shown at E3 now, and so far updates have been coming in on time, so it's all looking good for an October release still. If you follow them on Twitter you can keep up with what's happening.

Re: Nintendo Switch Now Has Over 700 Games

DizziParadise

@Anti-Matter My Time at Portia is coming in October, that's a Fantasy Life style game (sort of) and is the game I'm most looking forward to. But I agree with your list even though some of them aren't for me, and would add to it a decent, realistic car racing game for my husband, who has been very disappointed by the racing games released so far.

That said though, I have plenty of games I haven't even started playing yet. I'm still having too much fun trying to find all the koroks in BotW. The payoff might be rubbish in-game, but the fun I'm having searching everywhere more than makes up for that.

Re: Review: Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles (Switch)

DizziParadise

Definitely a niche game and for those who either don't like or want a break from combat. It's a beautiful world to explore, the farming is simple and not time consuming, and the whole thing is just utterly charming. If you want a world to explore without stress, one as beautiful as Hyrule but without lynels and bokoblins around every corner, this is one of the best available. A great game to while away a few hours while waiting for My Time At Portia to come to Switch.

I entered for Hallam FM's Mission Christmas. It's a charity providing gifts for parents in financial straits, who can't afford to buy presents for their kids. Hallam FM provides gifts for kids who would otherwise get nothing. If anyone out there can afford it, please donate a gift (doesn't have to be anything like as expensive as a Switch - a £5 gift from the Works would be so gratefully received). If you're not in the Sheffield area, your local FM radio station will almost certainly be running something similar in your area. Thanks.

ETA - If you want more details, places you can drop off your gift or links to other radio stations running a similar gift drive, Google Hallam FM Mission Christmas. And thanks again.

Re: Nintendo Switch Surges in Japanese Charts as Fire Emblem Warriors Makes Debut

DizziParadise

@Anti-Matter Thanks for this, I've just backed my first ever Kickstarter project! Looks like a mashup of Fantasy Life, Animal Crossing and Rune Factory, right up my alley. Gonna have to wait, since the console version I backed won't be out til next summer at the earliest (I couldn't afford to back the Steam + Console version) but it'll hopefully be a nice surprise when it arrives. And I'll have Stardew Valley to keep me going in the meantime.

Have to admit I like the looks of Fe as well (I don't mind dark games sometimes) but I can see where you're coming from.

Re: Murder Mystery Title The Sexy Brutale Is Coming To Switch

DizziParadise

@NEStalgia Yeah, like I said in the other thread, the indies were conspicuous by their absence at E3. Very disappointing.

I know what you mean about releases vanishing, I remember those years too (you and I are similar ages, I think). 8 games though, man, and all of them have pretty much dropped off the face of the planet. Even in the 90s 1 game out of 8 would at least vaguely meet its release window. And since these were all hyped to the max back when we were waiting for the Switch to be released, it's particularly galling that there has been so little news about them - other than reviews for other platforms, of course.

Re: RiME Is Getting A Special Collector's Edition On Switch

DizziParadise

I didn't see Sony's E3, again, since we have no PS4 they aren't on my radar. I was kinda expecting some indies to show for Nintendo at E3 and was a bit disappointed they didn't. Should have known then, I guess.

I appreciate that Splatoon is a big deal, and while it's not my thing I'm still glad it's there for those that do enjoy it. Same for all games really, if there's an audience for it then the game is welcome, regardless of whether it's for me personally or not. I don't think Rabbids is for me either, but that's ok - there's plenty coming (eventually) that is, and failing that there's always the Zelda DLC.

But you know, 8 games on my list. Eight. Not one of them made its release window (yet, anyway - summer isn't over yet but with no release dates even I'm not holding out a lot of hope here). And when they do come out, what are they going to be competing with? Mario Odyssey, probably. Good luck with that.

Re: RiME Is Getting A Special Collector's Edition On Switch

DizziParadise

@NEStalgia Yeah, I don't have a PS4 (we stopped at PS2) so it wasn't on my radar back then. I've read the history of the game and development he££ sounds about right. But it's one of many that have been put back and put back with no news for months and I'm getting really fed up. I haven't played on Switch for weeks, because there's nothing for me to play - all the games I had thought were coming... haven't. Splatoon and Mario Kart are not my thing. I got my fill of NeoGeo type games 20 years ago. I had a list of about 8 games I was really looking forward to in the summer, and none of them have actually come out yet. Only one even has a release date - for November.

Again, it wouldn't have been so bad if one or two of them had actually made their original release windows and if most of them hadn't come out on other platforms weeks or even months ago and still no date for us Switch players. I just hope this situation improves, I'll be watching the Sexy Brutale in particular to see if it does.

Re: Murder Mystery Title The Sexy Brutale Is Coming To Switch

DizziParadise

@NEStalgia I wouldn't have minded so much if we'd actually had news. You know, "sorry the game isn't coming out when we said it would, because of x, y and z (even if x, y and z are just "it took longer than we thought"), bear with us and we'll have a new date for you in (insert reasonable amount of time here)."

Instead we got release dates of Summer 2017 and then nothing. Stardew Valley was changed from Summer 2017 to just 2017 without reason given, and nothing from either the developer or the porter. Ittle Dew 2 was originally Summer 2017 and is now slated for the back end of November. Yooka-Laylee has disappeared except for bad reviews. RiME was meant to be May, then later in the summer (at least they did tell us about that), and now possibly Q4 with no actual date. It gets old.

Re: RiME Is Getting A Special Collector's Edition On Switch

DizziParadise

I was so hyped for this game. In May. Now it's almost August and still no Switch release date and honestly I can't be bothered anymore. I agree with Beedrill4Smash above. This and Stardew Valley were both day one purchases for me, but as time has dragged on with no news, no release date, I've lost interest. I think I'll get Story of Seasons instead of Stardew to scratch the farming itch and forget about RiME entirely.

Re: Murder Mystery Title The Sexy Brutale Is Coming To Switch

DizziParadise

I've been hoping this would come to Switch, seems tailor made for it. That said though, I won't hold my breath. I've been waiting for TBA games for months now, games that originally were meant to come out in the summer. One has already definitely been put back to late November. The rest are still TBA. Most of them are already available on other platforms. As much as I love my Switch, I'm giving serious consideration to selling it and buying a PS4 with the money, so I can play all these games I've been waiting for, Sexy Brutale included.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo at E3 2017?

DizziParadise

Still really disappointed that there was nothing at all about the Nindies we're already expecting. Would have been nice to have a sizzle reel of Nindies we don't know about yet, as well. Still waiting on so many release dates - looks like Stardew Valley has been put back (it's not saying "Summer 2017" anymore, just "2017"), Rime got put back months ago and we still don't have a date, no dates for Ittle Dew 2 or Flipping Death or Yooka-Laylee (also delayed already).

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for all the Metroid and Mario fans out there, and some of what was shown was amazing and new, but they showed a LOT of Metroid, Mario, ARMS and Splatoon 2 and nothing for the games I'm waiting for.

Re: Feature: Our Nintendo Hopes and Dreams for E3 2017

DizziParadise

At this point, I'm just wishing for release dates for games we already know about and haven't heard anything from since the Switch launched. Rime, Stardew Valley, Yooka-Laylee, Flipping Death, Ittle Dew 2 etc., a large number of which were supposed to have "Summer 2017" releases and here we are in mid-June and no news still.

As for Nintendo E3 announcements, I'm hoping for a new Animal Crossing entry by next summer but I'm not holding my breath for that. I'm expecting a lot of Mario Odyssey and Splatoon/ARMS stuff and maybe something unexpected - Nintendo usually comes up with something unexpected, even if the unexpected turns out to be unpopular.

Re: Talking Point: ARMS Has Plenty to Prove In Its Nintendo Direct

DizziParadise

Is Nintendo actually trying to sell this game with this Direct? I don't know if it's cos I'm a Brit, but the voice over is so dull. I've played this game, it is great fun to play and some of the mini games such as basketball and 1 on 100 look really good - but that's only because I've played it. If I hadn't played it I'd have tuned out on the Direct in the first 3 minutes. The Direct makes it look like a total snooze fest.

Re: Feature: Taking A Deep Breath: Introducing The Voice Of Zelda, Patricia Summersett

DizziParadise

I thought she was good. The British accent (and I am British) is a little odd to my ears just because the rest are American, but maybe British is meant to convey "posh" or "royalty"? Honestly, Brits all sound so different from one another, my husband and I grew up around 150 miles apart, I say duck and he says dook. Zelda's British accent is definitely on the posh, BBC, received pronunciation end of the spectrum (as opposed to Yangus from DQ8, who is on the East End, market stall holder, awwight mate end). Neither of them are completely believable to someone with any experience of hearing the "real" versions of these accents, but I thought she did a great job.

Edit: Yangus is in DQ8, not 9. Duh.

Re: Deals: Nintendo Switch - Upcoming Goodies For May And June

DizziParadise

@singingbrakeman I don't think Nintendo now (or possibly ever) are competing with Sony and Microsoft for the same money. In many cases a Nintendo console is a second console. For us, it's our only console, because the games we want to play mostly come to Nintendo consoles, whether they be Nintendo games or Capcom (Ace Attorney), Square Enix (Bravely, DQ), Level 5 (Layton) or whatever. And we only have so much time in a day to game, two consoles would be a waste for us. I'm guessing we're not the only ones in this situation.

As for price, I'm willing to take a reasonable price increase for the reasons you mention. But in the case of RiME that is a 33% increase for a maximum 10 hour game. £40 is crazy. £30 is, imo, too high, but not too much too high that I wouldn't pay it if the game looked good enough to me. But because I want it on Switch, I have to wait longer, pay more, and risk the game being substandard compared to the other console versions. I trust Tantalus to get it right in this particular case, but we can all cite many cases where the dev didn't get it right for the Nintendo version, can't we?

Stardew Valley is currently £11 on Steam. I don't want to play it on a computer though, I want it as a portable. So I am willing to pay more for it for that reason. I still don't know how much more, or how much longer I will need to wait for it. All the other consoles already have it (currently £16 on PS4). The Switch version is going to have the multiplayer, which may not be of interest to me but will attract others - but at what price? We still don't know, but if it launches at £40 I'm out.

I do not think it is reasonable to charge a large percentage more for one version of a game AND have it launch much later AND expect it to be successful on that platform. And if it isn't successful on that platform, why bother developing more games for that platform? I don't personally need or want CoD or Watchdogs on Switch, but the newest versions of those games, or similar games, not necessarily all of them but some of them, releasing on Switch would go a long way to sell systems and bring more people to Nintendo's IP as well.

At the end, either bring the games out, at a similar quality, similar price and similar time scale, on all the systems, or don't bother. If you make the owners of one system always wait longer, always pay more and always have an inferior experience, they won't buy the games anymore. It's that simple.

For me, I'm mostly happy with Nintendo IP, Nindies and the games that Squenix/Capcom/Level 5 (among others) have historically brought to Nintendo systems. But I really think the Switch could be so much more, and it's a shame it doesn't look like it will be.

Re: Deals: Nintendo Switch - Upcoming Goodies For May And June

DizziParadise

@NEStalgia I'm not that bothered on a personal level about Mass Effect or Watchdogs, or indeed many/most PS4/XBone games, mostly they just aint my thing. I am bothered though about potential gamers or existing gamers turning off the Switch because it doesn't have ANY of the games their friends with PS4s are playing or the games are much more expensive to buy. An extra 33%, in the case of RiME as an example, is only going to push people away - Switch owners from buying the game at all, non Switch owners from buying a Switch. And then you get the same old vicious cycle of devs refusing to develop for Switch because the games "don't sell".

I've always thought of Nintendo as occupying their own corner of gaming, not going after the same slices of the pie as Sony and Microsoft and being all the better for that. I can still see the Switch succeeding even without most of the third parties. I was never even expecting all the big AAA third party games to come to Switch anyway. It's just extremely annoying that the third party games that are coming are, in the main, as for the Wii U - overpriced, late and (remains to be seen, let's hope not) substandard.

Re: Deals: Nintendo Switch - Upcoming Goodies For May And June

DizziParadise

Disappointed that there are still no release dates for RiME (sometime in May for everything except the Switch) and Stardew Valley (already out for everything except the Switch). Disappointed about the silly prices for Minecraft even though I'm not interested in getting it myself - who's going to pay that if they already have anything else to play it on?

I love my Switch, and it's the only home console I own (apart from a Wii and a PS2, neither of which get played often). So it saddens me to say that I think third party support is going to go the same way as Wii U. Overpriced, late, substandard ports that nobody buys so the publishers can say "nobody buys our games on Switch so we won't make them anymore". It doesn't have to be this way, but I think it's going to be. Sad.

@bimmy-lee I keep looking at buildings and landscape and wanting to climb them...

I've put a couple of hundred hours at least into BotW so far, and I'm still finding new places. Yesterday was Fort Hateno and a Bokoblin camp on the river there.

I would second the call for a bit more underworld, maybe some passages between certain shrines, a few bomb-able walls leading to cave systems, underground short cuts between areas, things like that. Maybe with some different enemies, mining opportunities, or wildlife. Given that all the shrines are so far underground, wouldn't there be a system of passages between them?

Re: PETA Calls Out Nintendo Over Inaccurate Portrayal Of Milking In 1-2-Switch

DizziParadise

@PlywoodStick You would not believe the number of people who do truly believe that sheep are killed for their wool. Not so much in the UK, but a lot of my spinning friends in America get comments and arguments from such people all the time.

@Chandlero Your argument ignores the point that the cow is, largely, created by human beings by selective breeding. Cows have been selectively bred for thousands of years to produce much more milk than a calf requires. Whether that breeding was ethical or not is moot now. The point is that milking is not harmful or even painful to the cow. NOT milking the cow is and can lead to an excruciatingly painful death. There are some farms that have an automated process whereby the cow decides she wants milking, goes to the barn, and gets milked automatically, no humans required. If this was painful for the cow, do you think she would choose to do it? Google "Automatic Milking Systems" for more info on this. ETA - and the calves aren't killed. If they were, where would the next generation of cows come from?

Re: PETA Calls Out Nintendo Over Inaccurate Portrayal Of Milking In 1-2-Switch

DizziParadise

Please don't give PETA any space. They are uninformed, obsessive and in some cases outright dangerous. NOT milking a cow is cruel to the cow. Mastitis is not something I would wish on my worst enemy, let alone a cow. This is the same bunch of idiots that think sheep are killed for their wool (I'm a spinner - I know how wool is grown) and think that releasing a bunch of mink into the wild, where they decimate the local wildlife, is "the right thing to do". PETA is not a reputable organisation, so please stop giving them airtime.
