Dynamite Headdy is a brilliantly fun game with a quirky yet lovable sense of humour. I have many fond memories of it from my childhood, and would happily (and have in fact been wanting to) purchase it for the VC were I to have the Wii Points to do so.
Wow, so it's true, the Internet simply cannot survive without hate. First, people hate on Nintendo for not releasing SMRPG for the VC, and now people are hating on the haters for having hated now that they have it.
I also find it amusing just how many people are jumping on the 'People who like Nintendo games and nothing else deserve to be hated' bandwagon. Baa,
I read the preview blurb for this update on the main page and was wondering which Squeenix RPG had been let loose in Japan this time, and then I recognised the screenshot and uttered a tasteful 'Holy ...'.
I don't know anything about these Ys games, although they do intrigue me, so maybe I'll be making my first TurboGrafx-16 purchase at some point in the near-future, =O
The GBA/DS remakes are definitely worth a shot if you're after a serious RPG. FFIV is considerably more difficult than V and VI, and VI is my favourite of the three. I haven't played the DS remake of III enough to really be able to comment on it, although graphically it's beautifully reminiscent of FFIX, :3
If you have access to the DS remake of FFIV then that's a champion choice if you ask me. Either way, the remakes are the best of the bunch. Sans FFIX, the Final Fantasy games from VII onwards begin to decline in compairson to VI and earlier if you ask me.
Well, when you base a game around Mario, you can't let it become too dark due to the fact that then it becomes uncharacteristic of the franchise. I agree that SMRPG is more of an 'entry level' RPG, but it's definitely less of one than Mystic Quest, which quite literally spoon-fed you everything (then again, despite the fact that I'll probably be stoned for this, I actually find Mystic Quest to be quite a fun little RPG to play).
What does it for me with regards to SMRPG is just the overall look and feel of the game. Sure, it's nowhere near as deep as any of the Final Fantasy games, but it was great to see a well-built RPG based around a series of characters that we all know and love already. After all, it not being revolutionary doesn't stop it from being well-built, =P
The graphics are lovely, especially when you take into consideration what console this was originally for, and the dialogue is witty and zany enough to lure out a laugh or two every now and then.
I think the main problem people have is that they're looking for a serious RPG to play, and so when they see that this isn't such an RPG, they ignore it and go for something else. However, if you're just looking for a game which is well-made and fun to play, then this game is definitely a champion choice. It all depends on whether you want to play a game for fun, or to become embroiled in a deep plot. There's nothing wrong with either, but that, as I see it, is where this game stands.
BTW, I'm lost in the Forest Maze, XD
I keep following Geno but then he disappears, =S
And I don't want to use an FAQ, 'cause I'd feel dirty, XD
Aye, the announcement in the Wii Shop Channel for this Hanabi Festival specifically stated that The Lost Levels is here to stay, as is everything else that is released.
With regards to the Final Fantasy discussion, may I first point out that declaring which game is the 'best' is stupid, as you're making out as though what you say is fact, when it's just an opinion.
My FAVOURITE Final Fantasy game is VI, just because it's aesthetically pleasing, it has characters you actually give a damn about, the character diversity is good (as opposed to SOME Final Fantasy games #coughXandXIIcough#), and there's a lot to do outside of the main quest (especially if you're playing the GBA remake).
The other podium places probably go to IX and V. IX because it's the ONLY 3D Final Fantasy game that returns to the SNES formula, and it works FANTASTICALLY, and V because I heart job systems and V's is beautiful in its simplicity. Plus, V's plot rawks, :3
As for SMRPG, I'm not saying that those who hate on it can't do so, as that would be stupid, but after reading all of the negative comments regarding it, it kinda' makes me feel bad for liking it. I mean, it's fair enough to not like it, but to make the people who do like it feel bad for liking it kinda' sucks, =/
Now that I've got my precious SMRPG, I'm not sure what to look forward to next on the VC, so I guess I'll just leave it be and see what crops up, =D
And for anyone who's interested, I've just entered Rose Town, :3
The button layout is fine. 'Run' is still in a bit of an arsey position (as on the SNES, it's Y, and 'Jump' is B, which isn't ideal on a GameCube controller), however, it's nowhere near as annoying as it is on Super Mario World.
Besides, IT'S SUPER MARIO RPG! I DON'T CARE!
I think I'll go and teach Mack a lesson before heading off to bed, >:3
@ Stuffgamer1: Thank God your reasoning for not liking the N64 FPSs has nothing to do with the graphics. I hate people who question my love for Final Fantasy VI just because it's 2D, yet they fap on a near-constant basis over Final Fantasy VII which is blockety-blocksville with added blocks.
This has probably been said here a million times already, but this isn't Nintendo's fault. They're the guys who would love to release this game for the Virtual Console, but it's a case of 'we would if we could but we can't'. Basically just put up or shut up.
@ Lynx: Well, the last Hanabi Festival was in May, so if they're every seven months then the next one isn't due 'til December.
I only suspect September due to the fact that they could quite feasibly be bi-annual. After all, just because something is as such, it doesn't mean that the months have to be exactly six apart, =P
I still have my N64 and copy of Goldeneye, so I'm not really all that arsed. Besides, Perfect Dark airstrikes it, =P
(It's just a shame that future James Bond games were alright (I rather enjoyed Agent Under Fire and Nightfire), whereas I've heard that Perfect Dark Zero is terrible (I haven't seen it played personally though).)
Although none of these games interest me, I acknowledge this release as being a fair bit better than what has been given to us recently. Maybe this is a sign that things are about to get better, =O
Or not, as is most likely the case, XD
BTW, although this is off-topic...
The first Hanabi Festival was in September, and the second in May. Does anyone reckon that the same pattern will be used each year? If so, then the VC release after next could be veeery interesting...
It's Monday for me now, and when it's Monday for America, I do hope that you guys get this game for the Virtual Console, 'cause if you do, then that'll surely mean that the European release will follow. Only time will tell. Good luck!
That was just my opinion. I wasn't stating it as fact. I even said 'In my eyes' in the bit that you quoted. Your response seemed a wee bit too antagonistic if you ask me, =/
And @ what is contained within the seven miles of text:
Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Street Fighter Alpha 3. Tekken Tag Tournament. In my eyes, everything else can sod off.
These three games are the last of their respective series before they got crap.
Re: The above VC release
I don't mean to sound like a whining SMRPG fanboy here, but take into account the fact that I'm not hoping for SMRPG over everything else because it's at the top of my Virtual Console wish list, I'm hoping for it because it's the only game on my Virtual Console wish list for the time being. I want it because I consider it to be an epic game that Europe was sadly deprived of, and all Virtual Console releases will be varying degrees of disappointing to me until I get the one and only game I want. It's why I haven't really said all that much about recent VC releases. I mean, why bother commenting on something when it will always be a complaint? =P
I'm not saying that the above games are crap or anything, I'm just saying that they don't float my boat.
...
On reflection, I'm basically just reiterating what Rexy has been saying for weeks, but it has been my stance pretty much the whole time. As I said two weeks ago when SMRPG didn't appear in the midst of everyone going nuts over it, I wasn't, and continue not to be particularly arsed about it. Yes, I want it very much, but yes, I can survive until then (especially due to the fact that Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions is very rapidly reeling me in).
The above rant was brought to you out of the blue and for no reason whatsoever.
Well, it's Thursday night, only an hour and 45 minutes to go before this week's Virtual Console release, and this time it will actually be a Virtual Console release and not a WiiWare release. I'm not trying to epichype it or anything like what happened two weeks ago, I just thought that it was worth mentioning.

@ Rexy: Well, I don't blame you there. I, personally, prefer the 2D Sonic games to the 3D ones. However, I still find the 3D games to be a good laugh, and I love some of the music from them. Sure, it isn't the orchestral mastery that Konami and Nintendo love to pump into their games, but it's still damn fun to listen to, :3
I may play through the Master System Sonic games now that everyone's discussing them. I'm rather tempted, XD
You can unlock all of the Master System/Game Gear Sonic games by playing through Sonic Adventure DX for the GameCube, although this is a good release for anyone lacking in a GameCube/that game/the will to play through it enough to unlock said games.
I've already done so myself so I'll be fine on this one,
I'm not going to be all competitive about this game with regards to who gets it first for the Virtual Console out of the US and Europe, as if it's released for one then it's bound to be released for the other soon after. If it's released in Europe first, great, as I live in the UK! If it's released in America first, then surely that means that a European release will soon follow.
I just hope I can get a Classic Controller in time for its release...
Regardless, at least said controller will make Super Mario World less of a waste of Wii Points (for the record, I consider Super Mario World to be epic, but controlling it using the GameCube controller is a nightmare, plus I've still got my friend's GBA copy to play on for the time being).
Can Nintendo please just release this somewhere other than Japan? XD
I know practically nothing about this game. I have no experience with it whatsoever. However, as people are clearly raving over it, it must therefore be pretty damn special, so if it ever appears on the European Virtual Console then I'll be sure to buy it.
However, whoever decided to name one of the main characters 'Poo' deserves to be shot, o_o
It's just dawned on me... playing SMRPG for the Virtual Console is going to be a pain in the ass. Remember the problems people had with Super Mario World? Holding the 'Run' button throughout most of the game is what (I should think) most people do because Mario's walking speed is sluggish, and a lot of the jumps in the game require the added speed. If you're using a GameCube controller, the 'Run' button is X, and the 'Jump' button is B, which is very inconvenient. The same buttons are used for Super Mario RPG. Ergo, regardless of when the game decides to grace non-Japanese shores with its presence (and, indeed, this applies to the Japanese too), it's going to be a royal pain to control.
Does the Classic Controller have a more favourable layout? If so, then I may have to invest in one... at least I have plenty of time, as I'm no longer expecting this game to appear at any point in the near-future, lol.
EDIT - Never mind. I just checked Wikipedia for a picture of the Classic Controller, and its button layout is exactly the same as that of the controller for the SNES, meaning that I definitely need to invest in one in time for SMRPG, :3
As much as I want it, based on how the news of its Virtual Console debut was announced, it was either going to be released very quickly (as said news was released very quickly) or very slowly (thereby rendering it in-league with the legions of other games that were rated ages ago and yet to this day have still not been released). It wasn't released quickly, as we all know, and so I'm not expecting it for at least a couple of months. I sense a September release, as a sort of 'Hey! For those of you who're depressed at the prospect of returning to school/College/University, here's Super Mario RPG to raise your spirits!' release. Luckily for me, I no longer go to College, and have no plans to go to University as of right now, so I'll have all the time in the world in which to marathon it, >:3

Luckily for me, I no longer go to College, and have no plans to go to University as of right now, so I'll have all the time in the world in which to marathon it, >:3
Re: Japanese Virtual Console list - July 2008
I was hoping Eggy was some alternate name for Fantastic Dizzy but it isn't,
Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today
Funnily enough, I used to own Pac-Attack, =O
It's quite fun, although the music is excrutiating. However, when you were losing it played the can-can, XD
Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today
No SMRPG I'm afraid. Five games were released:
Super Fantasy Zone (SEGA Mega Drive)
Summer Games 2 (Commodore 64)
Pac-Attack (Super Nintendo)
KING OF THE MONSTERS (NEOGEO)
Cybernoid (Commodore 64)
Not arsed about any of them, XD
Ah well, time for a bath, bed, five or so hours of sleep, and then a Brawl-fest, <3
Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today
If that's the case, then Wikipedia lies. Lies! LIES!
Naughty Wikipedia. And to think, we've been through so much together...
Ah well, means I can get an extra hour of sleep. Six hours for the win!
