I've read parts of Console Wars and the way it's written makes it worse. Too much of a fanboy style to look past. Ironically, I think a book focusing on Tom Kalinske and his accomplishments and clashes with Sega Japan could be really great if written in a straightforward way without blatant bias.
I actually have the ROM Genesis book and the N64, PS1, and GCN anthologies on the way and I'm excited to go through them.
I'd love for this to finally convince them to put out the SD collection in English since this does prove that there is demand for games along that line. They could throw in Evermore too for good measure. It's pretty much extra cash just sitting there for them to grab, the only thing they have to do is finally do an official translation.
This is a very particular genre and not for everyone. If he doesn't want to make one, it's great that he's honest. The worst thing would be an uninspired game. If there was a time for a Nintendo MMORPG, it'd be within the next year or two given the continued success of the Switch.
The CT soundtrack is great in any arrangement. Some others named here I'm less sure about. At the very least, it'd feel kinda creeped out trying to go to sleep with a lullaby take on Aeris' theme playing in the background.
I played some of the first and second ones, but never completed them. I was considering getting this on Switch, but the PS4 bundle is tempting. I'm glad this news is coming after the announcement about Grandia I + II coming to the switch, because that + Tales of Vesperia can go to my Switch and the trilogy can go to my PS4.
I'll be honest. When I first saw that this would be a launch title for the Gamecube as a preteen, I was disappointed that there wasn't a Mario game. The joke turned out to be on me in the end because I thought this game was great and far better than the Mario game that would be released for the system. True it's not very long, but it's also not blatantly padded like Super Mario Sunshine and the original version of The Wind Waker, which goes a long way, as does its charm.
I'll definitely be picking this up, though I'd rather it have gone to the Switch along with the sequel with an announcement that a new installment was on its way.
I played this on the Playstation a very long time ago and got about 70% in before I stopped. Never played the second one. Might finally finish them now. This and Tales of Vesperia (which I never played) are amongst my most anticipated releases.
This is why it's good that the console is selling so well, because it encourages more gems like these to be released for it.
I can see why a revamped version of Crash would do well, but I'm surprised it's still going like this, even if it's out for all platforms.
They were fun games back in the day, and I think each improved on the former, but I don't have much interest in them today because I did everything you could do. I mean spending ages getting the platinum relics everything you could do.
Had a flashback to late '96/early '97 playing Super Mario 64 on my new N64, playing Crash Bandicoot on a friend's Playstation, and looking through gaming magazines for word on Sonic X-treme because another friend had a Saturn (that we'd sometimes switch out for his Genesis because that one had the Sonic games).
As someone who took Brock down on Red with Charmander, this is profoundly stupid and unneeded. If someone needs to use the ones the leader is weak against, they can just google it.
I get what they're trying to do, but for most this will just force them to reduce their ideal team and put in a rando they won't actually use in the battles.
I picked Cyrus as my first. Just make sure that you stock up on healing grapes and don't blow your funds to the point that you can't. You should be able to recover your SP as well, but you won't need to rely on it too much outside of the boss fight because his physical attack is strong enough when you break the enemy and then boost.
I've played a lot of JRPGs, and how often I needed to heal with him stood out, but not to the point where I'd say it would be difficult for someone newer.
I forget when I first heard about Smash Bros (N64). Might have been Nintendo Power, or online, but either way I was really excited from the start. To a pre-teen, it seemed like a no brainier to put all your favorite characters in a fighting game. It was THE game during Summer '99.
That said, I don't remember that big of a promo blitz for it. Perfect Dark, DK64, even Conker's Bad Fur Day had bigger pushes. Regardless of whether they saw big potential in the first one or not, they definitely saw it in the second given that it got the huge push that a Mario or Zelda game would. Luigi's Mansion and Blue Storm got pushed too, but it was Melee that really sold the Gamecube that Winter.
I feel like these will either be really good or horrible. Nothing in between. It's very nice to look at, but requiring motion controls seems like a move that's a decade behind the curve.
Still remember the disbelief when I heard the news. It was around as shocking as when I heard that Robin Williams, Prince, or Whitney Houston had passed. He really made magic happen with the Wii release (possibly the greatest comeback the industry has ever seen), and it's a shame that he wasn't here last year to bask in the Switch proving doubters wrong once again and defying the odds.
The good thing about games today is that you can update them after release, and hopefully they add more content and variation to this. I usually do advance research before buying a game, especially with a high price tag, but I jumped at the pre-purchase for this and while it's not a total miss, it doesn't offer enough at this time to justify the cost imo. Should have waited until they put it on sale.
Bright side is I got extra gold coins from the pre-purchase that will be added to the stash getting used on Octopath Traveler this Friday.
Don't have high hopes for this, at least at the start. I'm holding onto my Wii U, and if they're just sticking with just NES titles, then the 3DS counts too, if I want reliable access to older games. Ditto the Gamecube demand, at least put Metroid Prime there to build hype for the next installment or something.
Xbox was the only one to do this type of thing right, and I don't even have an Xbox.
The N64 was the first console I ever had (had to choose between it and the PS, although I got that later), and it was because of this game. It was one of those lines after which everything had changed. True it's not perfect if looked at by the standards of today (the controls bug out when you're at the edge of a platform way too much and making you restart the level after every star is padding to make you play longer), but for a game as pioneering as it was, it's surprisingly playable today and has held up very well overall. With the possible exception of the first SMB, this is the most important game Nintendo ever made.
Given Nintendo's focus on the legacy of their works, I do expect a full refresh of this game at some point (with the DS version content + more), but hopefully not anytime soon. Maybe for the 25th or 30th anniversary. There's no need for one in the near future given how proudly Odyssey wears its influence.

Re: Spewart Hat And Suit Added To Super Mario Odyssey
This game is screaming for an expansion, not more costumes.

It depended on who's house we were playing at. I was fine with banning him if others wanted as long was we kept golden guns in.
