Surely SEGA is taking the Mickey

Last week we reported on a teaser trailer from SEGA that showed off a game that looked remarkably like a new Castle of Illusion game.

As if there was ever any doubt, it's been confirmed but astonishingly a Wii U or 3DS version was not mentioned. Castle of Illusion HD will be released on Xbox Live Arcade, PSN and PC this Summer.

Instead of being a sequel, the new game is more of a re-imagining of the 1990 Mega Driive side-scrolling classic. Castle of Illusion stars Mickey Mouse, who is on a quest to save Minnie from the evil Mizrabel. It will largely be left unchanged but of course the visuals will be updated into full high-definition and new gameplay mechanics have also been promised.

As of right now, it won't be found in the Wii U or 3DS eShop, which is a massive disappointment for all Nintendo gamers who may have enjoyed the original. There's still hope the game will make it to one of the systems as SEGA hasn't yet said it definitely won't be coming to Nintendo consoles. Our fingers will be firmly crossed.
