I played the game at EGX on Friday. Such a wonderful experience even in the easy modes, certainly a day one purchase for me. The boost and orb mechanic is a great addition. Graphics are awesome, as is the music and of course gameplay.
I feel that it primarily needs to be easy to work on and port to for third parties to be interested in supporting the platform. While I am happy with Nintendo's own offerings, its the third party titles which will make or break the console and its popularity.
Drill Dozer is an amazing game but as it came late in the GBA's lifespan, so many people missed out on it. I regularly play my copy on my SP, but it would be great to have it on WiiU VC too!
@Angelic_Lapras_King
Agreed, the rumble needs to be there as its an integral part of the experience.
I personally feel that the issue here is that Nintendo as a worldwide company unveiled two new 3DS models and then has denied just one region access to one of those models. Who wouldn't feel left out in that situation? Historically, its not been unheard of for particular models to only see a Japanese region release (Gameboy Light), but this is different.
Sure, there may not be as much demand for the smaller model as the XL, but that is no excuse for denying choice. If the N3DS is expected to only reach 25% of the sales of the N3DSXL (for example), then just put that quantity to market, keep an eye on the situation, adjust as necessary.
Thank you, I will look into that. It's just the rubber cover that is sticky, not the mechanism. I don't intend to part with it, so will replace the pad cover at some point
Yes! Just ordered mine. I love my old Aqua 3DS but the Circle Pad is getting a little sticky, so this will be a lovely replacement The site lists them as in stock and the order itself shows "awaiting stock pick", so I assume ready to ship? I paid the extra £3.95 for next day delivery so no idea if it will ship today or not
I take your point, but it will be interesting to see if they re-think their product allocation given how well the first wave of Amiibo sold. There is already relatively large amounts of shelf space for Disney Infinity and its associated figures in Game alone... perhaps Amiibo is the magic bullet that Nintendo needs in the UK.
What may help UK sales is better support within Game and other retail stores. I've said it before in other threads on here, the Wii U and its games are afforded minimal shelf real estate within these shops. You want a good choice of games to pick from? Well, you'd better buy online as shops stock very little aside from the top/new titles. Also, as others have pointed out, where are Nintendo's Console and Game TV adverts?... I see plenty for XB and PS.
"There's a heck of a lot more than just Smash Bros and Captain Toad. And don't forget Watch Dogs which just came out too. There's Bayonetta 2, the highest rated game of the year, and it's predecessor Bayonetta which is every bit as good. There's Hyrule Warriors which is much better than expected, there's Mario Kart 8, which is one of the top games on the entire system. There's Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, best platformer in years (best ever for me), Super Mario 3D World, Zelda Windwaker HD, there's Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101. There's Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, there's ZombiU and Wii Sports Club (golf is fantastic, btw). Classic platformers Rayman Legends and New Super Mario Bros U."
< here is the problem, at least in the UK. If I go into a shop and look at the Wii U shelf (or two if the store is being generous with their space), they may be MK8, SSB and Bayonetta2 out of that bunch on display. Shops around here simply don't give space to the Wii U. The 3DS does a little better for space in stores but the vast majority is dedicated to PS/XB systems and games.
Very true about the Ambassador style program. It was very early in the life cycle of the 3DS.
I do think that the Wii U appeals to diehard Nintendo fans most, especially with the first party content available on the console. Personally, the only current console that interested me was the Wii U, but again, that was purely because of the first party games. MK8 was a strong deciding factor for me, as is Bayonetta 2 and SSB. Splatoon and Yoshi's Woolly World also interest me greatly.
Perhaps a price drop will help to move units. As you said, the market visibility is terrible currently.
I'm not convinced a price cut would be the right move as it could serve to devalue the system in the eyes of potential buyers. That said, it worked somewhat for the 3DS. Perhaps another "Ambassador" style promotion but this time, for the WiiU?
The staff in my local branches of Game and Gamestation were among the most friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of ANY store I have visited. I actually felt like my purchase meant something to the store. As I've said before however, the pricing difference between Game and other retailers (and indeed Game's own web store) may have been a big reason for consumers shopping elsewhere.
Whatever the reason, I wish the staff and all concerned at Game the very best outcome in this terrible situation.
Not surprised that Game/Gamestation are in trouble, not many people are willing to pay £39.99 for a Mario Kart 7 or SM 3D Land.
That said, on the few recent visits ive made to their stores, the staff have appeared to be have a passion for gaming and are happy to stand there and discuss the games and anything new that may be arriving in store soon.
If Game and Gamestation are to survive, they really need to look at their pricing structure. Even aligning their in store pricing with the ones shown on their online store would be a vast improvement.
Well, whatever the eShop app size limit is, large capacity SD cards are relatively cheap. And with Nintendo releasing Demos now, maybe a bigger card would be a smart move anyway. I dont have a Huge amount on my 3DS, but the 2GB card is half full (or half empty lol) already
