Re: Feature: Exploring The "Switch Tax" And Why Nintendo Was Right to Use Game Cards

@Lone_Beagle I agree. I purchased a 128GB thumb drive for my Wii U a couple years ago. I have 160+ digital/retail games for my Wii U and while the thumb drive is about full, the system memory is still available. I had my Xbox One S (500GB) less than 6 months before I had to buy an external hard drive. The thing that I find funny is a lot of these people who bitch about having to buy a sd card or the extra $10 for a cartridge are also the ones who buy the $180+ special editions of a game that 6 months later can be bought for $60.

@Samus7Killer Define what you feel makes the Switch version of any game worse. I have a 4k TV, 4k computer, Xbox One S, had a PS4 and have a Switch (among many other systems). Short of game crippling bugs or huge drops in frame rate, I'll take the ability to play my games "where I want to" and not have to be tethered to a TV. Pretty much any game that I buy that is multiplat and on the Switch, I buy the Switch version. Prettier graphics simply are not enough to force me to sit in front of the TV when I play. This is a mobile world now, we do everything on the go. Being forced to play your games on a TV now feels very 1970's to me.

I sold my PS4 about the time that the Switch was released due to it never getting played. I still have my 3DS, Wii U, Xbox One S, gaming PC, iPad and now a Switch. Since the Switch has come out, I've bought a lot of games, but none on the Xbox, PC or iPad. If a game is multiplat and on the Switch, that is where I'll buy it. I can play while sitting at my desk, on the family room TV or while I'm out and about. I do not have any intention on being completely tethered to a TV for gaming ever again. While I will still play games on the other "TV" systems and might even buy a Pro and X at some point, most of my gaming going forward will be off the TV.

@KappaBeta "Wii U got abandoned for a console we didn't ask for, as well..." Define "we". I for one am far more happy already with the Switch than I ever was with the Wii U. Maybe you enjoy being tethered to your TV, but I'm a busy person who like to fit things in on the go. If I have the time to sit on the couch, I have my 4k TV and gaming PC that plays nearly everything in 4k at 60fps.

Re: Monster Hunter: World Confirmed for Rival Platforms, is Skipping Nintendo Switch

I currently own a 3DS, Wii U, Switch, Xbox One S, iPad and a beast of a gaming computer. I would have considered this on Switch, but with too little free time to sit tethered to a TV set, I rarely game on the computer, Wii U or Xbox One anymore. So, I won't be buying this game or probably anything else from Capcom.

This does seriously feel like Capcom taking a poo on the MH fans that have been playing it on 3DS for years, the profits of which have helped keep Capcom afloat.

I find it funny that in this day and age where it cost two people $30-$40 to see a movie with concession that last 1 1/2 hours, that people would squawk at a fun video game being $40 ($32 w/prime or BBGC). I tend to base the value on how much entertainment it provides and for how long. Sadly, there have been plenty of AAA games at $69.99 that fall far short.

I have this game being delivered today and will get a chance to try it out in local multiplayer sometime this weekend. Maybe I'm just old school in that I like to have people in the same room playing a game in co-op or vs. Now, if you've played the dozens of incarnations of this over the years, I guess I understand not purchasing it. I haven't played it since the SNES, so I'm looking forward to it.

@NEStalgia You're going to want to add Sony back into that list. When the Wii was announced it gained a ton of buzz because of the motion controls. Sony then felt it necessary to add sixaxis to it's DualShock 3 controller followed by their Move controllers. Sony has never really been first with anything truly innovative in the video game market and has relied mostly on copying others. In the beginning it worked because of their marketing might. Since then they've somehow managed to form a rabid following. I've owned each of their systems, yet none of them were my favorite for each of their respected generations.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Nintendo Switch Are Still On Top in Japan

@Nintendoforlife The problem is 4 million Switches would cost Nintendo about $1 Billion to have manufactured. At 1 million units produced a month, that would mean that most of that $1 Billion would be due on terms to suppliers before the first unit would be sold. Now, lets say the Switch didn't take off, would you want to be responsible for $1 Billion in inventory that isn't moving very quickly?!?

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Nintendo Switch Are Still On Top in Japan

Amsterdamsters

@Equinox The system has been out for 2 months, 3 weeks. They sold 2.74 million Switches in the month of March. They've been having approximately 1 million units manufactured a month and have been selling about 250 thousands units a week. Japan is typically a smaller market for something like this. North American and Europe have higher sales than what Japan does and they too been sold out. If you believe that this is all Nintendo's fault and they should be able to flip a switch and have systems in all stores, you simple don't understand manufacturing at all.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Nintendo Switch Are Still On Top in Japan

Amsterdamsters

@Nintendoforlife I see a lot of comments like yours, but it's just not that simple. Nintendo doesn't manufacture the Switch, just as Sony doesn't manufacture the PS4 or Microsoft the Xbox One. The manufacture (Foxconn) has dedicated resources allocated to the production of the Switch. They have only so much room to "turn on" more production. Plus you have all of the component suppliers that would now have to also increase production. It just not as simply as flipping a Switch...it takes time.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Nintendo Switch Are Still On Top in Japan

@Nintendoforlife Splatoon 2 will boost Switch sales in Japan nicely. As for building up stock for December...it's not happening right now. No manufacture is going to sit on inventory for 6 months as it would cost a fortune. At this point, they're selling every system made. Let hope that they can get Foxconn to ramp up production enough ahead of the holidays so that the system is more readily available for Christmas shoppers.

Re: Editorial: An Empty Box is $5 and a Dock is $89 - Welcome to Switchonomics

@GravyThief There are more and more 3rd party accessories coming out for the Switch too. People need to keep in mind that even the retail stores don't make squat on video game system sales. They make most of the money on the accessories and to a lesser extend games. So, Nintendo makes a small profit on the Switch, the stores makes a very small if at all profit from the Switch. Nintendo makes a larger percent profit from a Pro Controller, but so does the store. It's that way with a lot of products. Why do you think that you can buy a new inkjet printer with starter ink for about the same price as just the replacement ink cartridges? That's where the money's at.

Re: Editorial: An Empty Box is $5 and a Dock is $89 - Welcome to Switchonomics

@RedMageLanakyn The age of the Vita only makes it's point of comparison more valid. There are huge markups on accessories for all the systems...period! If you don't want to pay the prices, it's simply, don't buy the damn thing. Please stop the constant whining about it in forums though. For anyone that absolutely "has to have" the extra Switch dock, pay the price and stop female dogging. I swear, everyone's a crybaby nowadays.

Re: Editorial: An Empty Box is $5 and a Dock is $89 - Welcome to Switchonomics

@BornInNorway81 ...and do you really believe that a 64GB Vita memory card cost anywhere near the $109.99 that it sells for ... or a leather smart case for an iPad Air cost even close to $79. All video game, tablet, phone manufactures make a lot of money on the "extras". It's just how it is. Complaining about just one of the companies is silly. I find it funny that few people were upset when the PS4/Xbox One came out and they had to buy a second controller for $60 just to play a local two player game. At least the Switch allows for it on most games right out of the box.
