I like that Nintendo is coming up with cool new ideas, but I don't think this has anything over simply using the touch screen. This is just a bad way to keep Wii remotes alive.
Dang! That's no where near where I live! Hold on, wrong complaint. Dang! They still give the advantage to big cities since I would never be able to get enough people together in my small town to win any swag!
I've been replaying the Metroid Prime games and will be continuing Corruption this weekend. There's also sure to be some online GTA IV with my brother (older) playing Mafia Work and Kid Icarus with my younger brothers.
@Mercury9 Fyi, this game isn't finished yet. The programming is done, but the reason they are trying to raise some funds on Kickstarter is so they can hire a few more people to polish the game. This is what they will do with the Kickstarter money (taken directly from their Kickstarter page):
"We'll hire a full time artist to make the game shine in all its glory.
We'll find an animator to help polish the game and make some awesome cinematics. We promise the cinematics will be less ridiculous than our kickstarter video.
If any money is left over we will probably upgrade our programmer's diet regime from cat food to human food. Maybe."
LMFAO over that last one, but anyway, this means that the game will look a hell of a lot better when it finally releases.
Exclusives almost always have trouble hitting the top ten. It's really nothing to worry about. Mario Party 9 beating Mass Effect 3 gave me a chuckle though.
I actually just finished Metroid Prime 2 only a half hour ago, and with 100% items and scans! I swear, everything that company touches turns to pure self replicating gold.
One thing I'm sure of is that COD doesn't sell systems, it sells itself. That said, I'm going to venture a guess that anyone who has a WiiU when it comes out will probably want to buy COD for WiiU as long as the online multiplayer is generally bug free. What's better: native 1080p @ 60fps or upscaled 720p @ 30fps? Nuff said.
Oh, really? Then why don't they give us free HDD's to go with the new system? In the case of downloaded games, it's the hard drive that takes the place of the game disc, so if they charge us the same amount for something we must all pay to support, then we are in fact paying more for it since we are providing the means of storage. Bad Iwata! Bad!
@kirkdouglassd Yeah, that's how I read it too. I wouldn't count on seeing a Zelda title anywhere near launch though. They did release Skyward Sword only 7 months ago. My guess is Pikmin 3 along with that new Mario game.
My main concern with storing games on an external USB 2.0 HDD is load times. I would even go so far as to say that it might affect the performance of the game if your WiiU console has to communicate with something so slow. I plan on buying the disc whenever possible, but if I do find myself wanting something digitally, then I hope this drawback doesn't affect things too much.
Yeah, right. Go back and play Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Galaxy 2. Anyway, it isn't about the graphics, right? Although Nintendo games in HD and high end graphics do sound good... wiiU really can't come soon enough for me.
@MakeMyBiscuit #30 Agreed. People need to stop pirating their games. Now, shutting down the used games business is not cool since that would be like shutting down pawn shops and used car dealers. Bottom line: don't be a thief, it's just not a good practice.
Yeah, it came too late for most people, but rest assured, Nintendo will be raking in money from re-releases of it for years to come. I wouldn't be surprised if it was an early downloadable title for WiiU or even offered as part of an HD package alongside Wind Waker and/or Twilight Princess. People who are interested in Zelda will find a way to play this title eventually, and Nintendo will be ever vigilant in making sure that those are paying customers.
@update That is so a bunch of hooey! This was probably the video meant for E3 at Nintendo's conference. An internal video wouldn't have been so well produced and people working on the project don't need to be wowed by stuff they already know. Lame Ubisoft, lame.
I'm really glad they're doing this. For starters it shows me that they have been paying attention to the industry and in general Nintendo really seems to be pushing forward with their online strategies. That said, I probably won't be getting any downloadable retail games since I am pretty attached to my physical collection. Another thing that Nintendo should strongly consider is including at least one USB 3.0 port if they plan on supporting an external HDD. USB 2.0 is just too slow for the sheer volume of today's games and would make load times absolutely horrific.
As long as they give us the whole story on what the console will do and more importantly show us some real footage of real games for it. I have a feeling the games are definitely going to be there in a big way.
Look at it this way. Wii has been all but silent the past year. So what has Nintendo been doing? They been making some killer games for their new console, that's what!
To further this theory, I'd like to state that even though some good Nintendo games have been released on 3DS in the past year, they've all been pretty low level and relatively easy to make games that draw from earlier installments (i.e. Mario 3D Land, Mariokart 7, etc.) with the exception of Skyward Sword and Kid Icarus. Skyward Sword is still quite relevant and I expect it to be for quite a while longer so there will be no Zelda game in the launch window and I don't know why people even consider it. Mario is supposed to be there right from the start in very simple form so what's left? Metroid. I think Nintendo is gonna show a Metroid game at E3 for release in early 2013.
You know when something big happens like if you won the lottery, and then there's that moment of pure silence where you don't know what the heck just happened? That's where Nintendo is right now; in the silenced part. They're just now starting to get their marbles back together.
The Gamecube had the worst sales, but each hardware sale saw 10 software sales which is higher than any other console on the list. Would I be wrong if I broke that 20m figure into being the same amount as the number of Nintendo faithful people in the world? I think not.
Awesome! They should bundle both 3DS and WiiU versions together (or at least offer it) to promote more people buying the system they don't have and maybe throwing in a coupon or something. Oh, and streetpass custom stages! They could even do a custom character builder for building move sets and making custom skins. As for communication between WiiU and 3DS, I think it would be cool just to use the 3DS as a controller if you go to a friend's house. That way both of you would have a touch screen to work with.
You know, those numbers aren't half bad considering the rocky start. I'll admit that I didn't even buy a 3DS right away. My only wish now is that NOA would get it's head fully out of its a** and give us all the good games that Japan is getting. They're starting to make amends with Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story, but my gaming withdrawal is getting worse now that I have to wait for that new Fire Emblem game without so much as confirmation that it's coming to NA!!!! On top of that, I've had a Circle Pad Pro pre-ordered from Gamestop for nearly two months now because there weren't enough produced in the first run. Seriously, there are gamers here in the US that want good games to play and want to play them on the best hardware available (referring to CCP), all Nintendo has to do is bring them on over.
Here's another observation: there have been four different models of DS over its lifespan. I have bought each iteration, including replacing a broken Lite, for myself along with two (Lite and DSi) for my girlfriend. I believe part of the reason DS has sold so many units is due to all the upgrades that have been made and then purchased by people who already have a DS. On the other hand, the Wii has had only one noticeable iteration (there is now a downgraded model that can't play GC games anymore). The fact that it sold so well despite being the same machine inside and out for five years says a lot, but I think it could have done better with a few upgrades here and there.
My point is that the DS first party titles would probably be closer to that 30% had the DS stopped at Lite or even stuck with that awful contraption that was the original DS. So comparing Wii games and system sales with that of the DS may be slightly skewed since there were different circumstances for each. I do agree with this article for the most part though and will happily admit to owning each and every one of the games mentioned.
Good idea RevolverLink! I'm in the process of downloading now, if blue is the only color that kinda sucks. Hopefully they release another update that allows different colors and maybe some basic pictures like a Mario face or something to make them even better.
@Chrono_Cross #5 Or a clue that it isn't one. A summer release would pretty much confirm Pikmin 3 as a launch, but anywhere after September would probably mean it isn't coming for about six months.

Bowser is like an old family friend now. It's ridiculous!!! I think plotwise all they would need to do is have Bowser commit an absolutely atrocious deed; one that would leave him no other choice but to be totally evil from then on and Mario and friends no choice but to want to stop him at all costs. He always captures the Princess. Why not have Bowser destroy a few toad villages and threaten the very existence of the Mushroom Kingdom? He could even go so far as to send toads by the hundreds into boiling lava pits. I'm just saying that Mario 3 scared the crap out of me when I got to Bowser's domain and boo houses were creepy as hell in Super Mario World. In the end, I am excited for this game though.
I got the message, why can't everyone else? The only officially released pic is one of Mario ACTUALLY FLYING BECAUSE HE HASN'T ACTUALLY FLOWN SINCE THAT CRAP A** JOB IN GALAXY. They're even bringing back the P meter for crying out loud! I have high hopes for this game and it's all because of that one little picture.

Wii didn't launch with Mario, but look how well it sold. It did release with Zelda though. Maybe Nintendo should launch more consoles with Zelda.

Re: Talking Point: What New Super Mario Bros. 2 Means for 3DS and Nintendo
@Olaf-symbiote I agree that Nintendo should try a different art style and try to add in some brand new ideas that change the way we play a Mario game, but as the old saying goes: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Now that doesn't mean we couldn't have a new model that is improved upon. I think Nintendo should go with a more gritty style to make the game feel more real and even scary in some places (like boo houses or Bowser's castle). The fluffy graphics do throw me off now that the 'new' has worn off from the first NSMB. It's almost like a big joke now with most enemies being akin to snuggly teddy bears, especially boos.
