The only thing I liked about the PS4 presser was that the system appears to primarily focus on games. If the rumors about the new Xbox are true (that it forces kinect usage and will be a media player/DVR/etc...) I will likely buy my first PS system since PS2.
It's probably not the smartest thing to mock Sony for having 30min game installs when Wii-U comes out of the box needing a system update that takes sometimes 2hrs to complete, a slow ass OS and 5-10hr retail game downloads from the the eshop.
Nathan Drake wasn't mentioned in his list, so I didn't give an opinion on him. He is a strong character, but only in his own series. You won't find anyone wanting to play as him in any other style of game, which can't be said of most characters that Nintendo has created. They are more versatile. Sly Cooper is decent, but again, hes nowhere near as iconic or recognizable as Nintendo characters. These aren't even debatable points.
Also lol @ you calling pulling the "fanboyism" card on me, when your avatar is a photo of Nathan Drake! If anything, I'm using logical thought while you are getting all worked up and ignoring the obvious facts. Sony hasn't created any characters that are anywhere near as important/valuable as Mario, Zelda, DK, Yoshi, Kirby, etc.
To be fair, although you listed off several "Sony" characters, NONE of them aside from maybe God of War, can hold a candle to any of Nintendo's big franchise characters like Star Fox, Zelda, DK, Mario, Yoshi, etc. All that list did, as far as I'm concerned, is show how disposable the characters that Sony has created are. They are all souless and empty, and after two or three games they have been worn out and used up. None of those characters you listed are "iconic".
I'm shocked that there are people posting here that they want to pre-order or buy this game, even though the other versions (which this will likely be no better than) got scored around 4/10 by all mainstream websites.
I'm looking forward to this one. I HATED having to wiggle the wiimote around while playing this on the Wii, so I never bothered finishing it. I will likely buy this one.
I'm also pleased to see this is only a 3D upgrade, and not a brand new DK title. That means that Retro has the vast majority of its team working on a new game(s).....
Mario Golf 64 was one of my most played games, so I'm really looking forward to this one! Hopefully there are a lot of unlockable courses and characters.
This game suffers from issues that cannot be solved by "patches".
The graphics are poo, AI is awful, gameplay sucks, story is crap, etc...
There is no way in hell Gearbox wastes the money it will take to put this out on Wii-U, since they will no doubt lose money on the 360-PS3 release anyway.
Call me crazy, by am I in the minority here by preferring to play most games without motion controls? I wish I could lay in bed some evenings and get through Skyward Sword finally, but it's impossible to play without sitting up right and facing the tv directly.
3DS has sold nearly 30 million so far worldwide (28-28 million), which I believe I read was faster than the DS sold for the same period of release. 20 million of those 30 million have been sold outside Japan.
I'm not concerned. I have only bought Nintendo systems (post-GameCube) for the first-party titles and the odd third-party exclusive anyway. I will buy the new Xbox sometime in 2014 when some big games drop, and play the GTA's, Red Dead's and AAA third-person action games on that. Even if Nintendo doesn't get a ton of support, there will still be enough games coming out on it that will make it a worthwhile purchase.
When it's all said and done, I still anticipate buying at least 12-15 Wii-U games over the course of his lifespan.
I wasn't that interested in this game, but if it got good reviews I would have considered picking it up. Now though, I won't even consider it since there will be a handful of games out around that time I'd rather buy instead
I have no problems with these changes. The constant notifications on posts with 400+ replies was annoying, especially with the only way to stop them being scrolling through them all to delete your own post.
I'm fine with posting one message every five minutes. You can still comment on posts as much as you want, just need to wait a bit before starting a new one. I've seen a lot of people spamming multiple messages on the same board so this has now been stopped.
The reason copies of Earthbound for snes sell for a lot of money is not due to 'greed', but due to 'supply and demand'. There are a limited number of copies on sale at any one time, hence why they are bought at a premium. Is it 'greedy' to resell a 1968 Ford Mustang today at a price that's several times higher than what it originally cost?? And if someone is willing to pay a lot for it (willingly) why not sell it for as much as you can get?
You are right. This is similar to when Capcom remade Resident Evil for the GC and charged full price. It was an 'updated' version of an older game, much like this release will be.
RE4 on PS3 was identical to the GC version, except for the fact that the resolution was upped. It still looked the same, only sharper visuals.
From what we have seen of Windwaker so far, its a complete redesign of the original game, not just an HD upgrade. The art style has been improved, it's got better graphics and the producers said there will be new gameplay additions.
Adults understand a concept called 'inflation'. It's where prices generally increase over time due to increased production costs, among other variables. Even though its an 'old' game, all the costs and effort put into remaking it are paid for in 'today's money, hence a price that's slightly higher than it was 10+ years ago.
Not to mention the fact the original game is nearly impossible to find in any physical store, and can only be found online for $40-50 anyway...
So you would rather spend $50 on a used copy of the GC version, rather than spend an extra $10 and get an HD remake for the Wii-U? Are you serious?? Man, some people complain about anything!
And if you were to go on eBay and buy a copy, you would pay $35-40 for a used one, and $200+ for a new one. Not to mention, this is a complete HD overhaul that goes beyond upping the resolution as can easy be seen from the screen shots. And there is no telling what other things will be tweaked and added.
The price is fair, and hardly 'atrocious' if you think about it like an adult.
Agree 100%. Many Nintendo fans (I'm one of them, but have the ability to think critically) somehow have this belief that if the Sony and Microsoft systems launch at $550, everyone who was holding out for one of those will say "dang, thats too expensive!" and settle on buying a $350 Wii-U instead. I'm sorry, but it doesn't work that way. If people want the newest technology, they will buy it even if it costs a little more.
You listed off a bunch of current gen ports (some several months old) a few indie downloads and some launch titles. The Wii-U will be very underpowered compared to the new consoles coming, and most if not all the big third-party companies will be focusing on those systems instead.
The 360 and PS3 will still likely get scaled back versions of several next-gen titles for the next year or two due to their massive install base, so Nintendo could see some of those games as well. However, after 2015 I imagine they will focus soley on the PS4 and 720.
Neither game was awful by any stretch. I played both of them a little bit and would give them each a solid 7/10. For a comparison, I would give Banjo Kazooie a 9.5/10.
On eBay, copies of the originally routinely sell for around $30-40, so if this HD version is $49.99 that's not a bad price. It's not like the original can be scooped up online for $5-15.
The legitimate technical reason would be that your previous VC saves are embedded in the rom/emulator on the Wii. The Wii-U VC titles are a 'fresh' download, and don't have anything to do with the previous Wii VC files.

Sell your games on ebay or Craigslist, you get way more $$$. In fact, I just sold my copy of Fire Emblem on Ebay today and it went for $56

PS2 games sold for $49.99 ten years ago, and now PS3, 360 and Wii-U games are $59.99.
