In early June publisher Microïds outlined six games that it has in development for the Nintendo Switch, one of which was listed as Gear.Club. Developed by Eden Games, the original with that name on mobile is free-to-download, utilising ads and in-app purchases to make money.
Still due in Q4 this year, what we'll get on the Switch eShop is actually Gear.Club Unlimited. The name certainly suggests it'll be a release loaded with content, including branded cars and plenty of races and tracks; Microïds has also given us an early look at its teaser trailer, which is primarily cinematic. You can see that below, with some official details and a couple of glamour shots.
Gear.Club Unlimited offers players a driving experience behind the wheel of prestigious cars from
leading brands. They will have to demonstrate a strong competitive spirit during frantic races to win
championships and set the fastest lap times, alone or against their friends! In order to make their cars
ever more powerful and aggressive, players can customize them - from body to engine!
It certainly has a chance to be the first 'serious' driving game on the Switch, though we can't draw too many conclusions yet from the initial trailer. More details and gameplay footage will no doubt emerge in the coming months and it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.
Are you keen to try a game like this on the Nintendo Switch?

Nice, looking forward to seeing how this come out.
With the current lack of arcade racers on the system, I am quite looking forward to this one. Even coming from mobile any game that attempts to clone "Burnout" while still adding tons of content is welcome by me, even more so now with physical button input.
Seems alright, but I'm more of an open-world racer type of person.
When can we get a game like that on Switch?
If it's Test Drive Unlimited sequel it's VERY interesting. Is it?
Oh no... it looks like a stupid smartphone game already released... bleh.
i'm all up for that.
Being originally a smartphone game I would have cast it aside instantly.
However Implosion impressed me more than I expected and thus I will at least give it a look once the first reviews are out.
"in its original form on mobile"
jesus H christ....
At least Switch is getting some form of racing stuff outside of Mario Kart.
.......but Wii U got Need for Speed
Mobile game is decent enough to want to give this a go as long as the price is right.
What does it look like in game?
I need Ferrari's if I buy a racing game, thats a deal breaker
If they rebalance it well for a one-time purchase, price it right, and it runs/plays well, I'm in! I could deal with a less serious racer that's not Mario Kart.
Oh I would pray to any God that would listen for a Switch edition of Burnout!
Nice! Keep it coming!!
@Shiryu I still remembers the days of Ridge Racer on 64; such great time. So yes I support this game coming to Switch.
@DarkRula if only Ubi develop that car game of theirs for Switch.
@gatorboi352
@gatorboi352 and the best version of Need for Speed Most Wanted! But yeah in all seriousness the Wii U severely lacked realistic (arcade or sims) racing games, hopefully that'll change with the Switch
Hopefully it's a proper racing game and not a mobile port (with all those iaps)
@JJ286 Namco should make a Switch Namco Museum entry based on their System 11,12, 21 and 22 games, including the original "Ridge Racers"... I know the boards are based on Playstation technology, but one can dream...
looks ok but I am willing to test it out...getting tired of all these local multiplayer games as of late.
Once again NO GAMEPLAY! What is wrong with showing the blimin game?
Looks good but need to see some gameplay in able for me to get excited.
I remember the good old days when there were only like 5 games to track on the Switch
I don't even like realistic racing games but this looks really good.
I might have to give this a try after watching game play videos on Youtube for the Android/IOS versions. Game looks solid.
Thanks, but I'll stick to Forza Horizon 1 through 3 ...
Yeah, I know they are not on the Switch, and they never will be, but if you care about your racing, you'll already own a X1 or PC, so ... more games, even if it is literally F2P mobile stuff being ported over, is still welcome. I for one wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft pole though.
I wouldn't consider any smartphone game 'serious'.
Wish Ubisoft would port the Crew to the Switch though. Not that I would buy it again, but it's one of the best racing games ever.
People are underestimating this. It's reviewed very well on mobile and a Switch version with proper controls but without the freemium BS fills a big gap in the Switch library and could do very well.
@Ralek85
The Horizon games are wonderful, no question, but they ain't portable. I can't think of a really good car racer on a portable console since NFS Most Wanted on Vita. Before that it was the Ridge Racers and Burnout Legends on the PSP.
@gatorboi352 Believe it or not, this one was actually fairly decent, unlike clearly mobile games like Implosion.
Also Need For Speed was terminally disappointing for me.
Playing a racing game without analogue triggers should be fun.... As it's an arcade game you probably won't need them, but Im into sim racing so my Switch isn't really the platform for it. From what I can see is it's Test Drive unlimited, but with a different name. If it's priced right I'd probably still buy it, as although I like more realistic racers, I don't mind arcade racing if they are made well.
@JJ286 Oh, that would be amazing to have a game like that portable
I dislike mobile because of the platform itself, not necessarily because of its games. I'm more than open to trying this out as long as it is high quality. Actual buttons and sticks are far superior to touch controls.
Gear.Club Unlimited for the Switch (a console exclusive) is most DEFINITELY on my radar. FAST RMX and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are two of the best racing titles ever made for the Nintendo Switch. I believe that my body will be ready for Redout and Gear.Club Unlimited!
Looks ok really want a good racing game on the switch, I just wish Namco would give us a ridge racer collection with all the originals remastered or Sega to do an outrun collection
Better then nothing I guess but Eden Studios has a good rep so here's hoping!
Just checked a vid on YouTube, it's bland and Jerky, yep that's mobile for ya, zero gameplay compared to other racers like NFS or Burnout
@Gs69 I just bought Outrun for the Sega Master System. I would like a version of that game on a switch.
@DarkRula Like the Need for Speed game that was on the Wii U?
Did someone mention Outrun?
Yes please, still play the only arcade perfect Saturn Port
@electrolite77
+1, of course, in first place, this game was developed by eden games, and their last games were test drive unlimited saga, games that mix very good sim racing with arcade racing, exactly as the classics NFS (90's), then, it will be a great game, yeah, a port of mobile game, but a port of a excellent game in that catalog of mobile games.
@Arehexes from what I remember it was quite good on the master system didn't they do a 3D version as well with the glasses for the time it was quite impressive
@SakuraHaruka
Exactly. I've no problem with good mobile games coming across to Switch. I think there's real potential there. I don't buy mobile games but that's because of the control methods and all the freemium/Pay-to-Win business models used. Full games with proper controls are very welcome.
@UboaNoticedYou my bigger concern and frustration is that, for all intents and purposes, the Switch is being treated as a portable. It was originally sold as a home console and Wii U successor by Nintendo (which was clearly asinine). The 2DS XL will suit me just fine for my portable gaming needs. Not this drivel.
WOW!!!
@gatorboi352
I agree completely! I seriously do wish that developers would treat this as more of a home console that you could take anywhere, opening up so many doors, rather than a handheld that you can also play on your television, thereby making it not much more innovative than having, say, a GBA with a GBA Player. Yes, it's more involved than that, but I think that it would be much cooler to get more of the at home, console experience that I can take with me. Nintendo gets it (with games like Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the upcoming Mario Odyssey, etc.), and so does Monolith Soft (Xenoblade 2 is really shaping up), but Capcom is offering a spruced up port of a twenty-six year old game, and a Resident Evil Revelations comp! Yes, RE R1 was really good, but I think that a large part of it's appeal was, at least for me, that I was playing a full-fledged Resident Evil game on the 3DS! I can't think of too many people who would rather have Revelations 1 and 2 than the HD rerelease of Resident Evil 4, maybe even along with 5. The Switch IS powerful enough to run PS3/360 games! Just because the console isn't as powerful as a PS4/XB1, that doesn't mean that the console should be inundated with a flood of mobile games!
If anything, I would love to see many of the developers who signed on to develop titles take the Bethesda route and port the best games from last generation! I would love to see Dark Souls 1 and 2, the Bioshock trilogy, maybe even Red Dead Redemption! The Switch HAS more than enough power to run these games (as is clearly evident by the Mario/Rabbids crossover, which looks phenomenal!)!
There's nothing wrong with mobile games, but I'm really starting to get an Ouya vibe from every non-Nintendo company! To me, mobile games are a cool thing to have, but they shouldn't comprise the bulk of the library!
@gatorboi352 .... And the best version no less. 😉😊
@Gerald Good call. We need a Sega Museum collection ^^ (oh with coast to coast and Daytona 2 ahem!)
I reeeeeeeeally hope it has longer races and a first person view mode, or no dice.
@GrailUK would love to see coast to coast! I'm hoping the 360 version will end up backwards compatible for the Xbox One!!
If they give me a grand turismo like spectrum of cars, im in. Had enough of those race games with 50~ cars with no real classics and cult cars.
I'm not usually for mobile ports of 3D games but this looks pretty good, actually. It looks like a blend of arcade racers and racing sims, which is pretty cool in my book. As a fan of racing games, consider me intrigued.
@electrolite77 That's true, portable they ain't. I haven't tried this game in particular, but once upon I time I tried a few F2P racers on my Shield K1 Tablet out of sheer curiosity, and ... well, none of them even remotely compare to neither FH or any portable NFS or Burnout on a handheld like the PSP/Vita.
Few allowed for controller support, but even then you had issues like virtually all cars handling the same to name but one off the top of my head - despite the mostly somewhat glossy visuals.
Not to mention the constant nuisances that are inherent to a F2P title no matter what - assuming it's not downright pay2win.
Anyways, I would love for a Burnout on Switch, even if its just like a basic port of Revenge for example. That would be absolutely sick. It's one of the games that I still keep my 360 hooked-up for to this day.
@Gs69 I can't remember ever playing Outrun, but a Sega Rally or an actual Daytona USA game would be great.
@Dj64Mk7 Pretty much that, yes
@DarkRula Yeah I had a lot of fun in that game driving around, crashing into things.
Ugggggggggggg. How can it be a hardcore racer from smart phones? Wtf?
@DarkRula totally!
Uuuuuuggghh! Another ex mobile game.... Implosion was utter drivel! I will avoid this like the plague. I don't want games that my mobile can play the Switch is better than this.
Price, space required, exclusivity are all I want to know
@Filth_Element bud! Implosion was really good fun and loads to do for £10... This looks good but I need to know more
@NintyNate no it really wasn't. I hate that game boring visuals, boring game play, go from here to here, boring mechanics, press this button and then this one for rubbish combo A or B, boring script boring acting boring boring 😴😴😴 sorry drifted off there just from reliving my horrible experience with that thing. (I refuse to call that a game it's an insult to the industry)
And quiet honestly I'm actually scared at the prospect of titles like this coming from mobile games and flooding the Switch market. The Switch deserves more than this kind of experience, it's certainly not what I bought it for. I hope others don't make these types of titles a success.... I really really hope....
Won't get my hopes up. I'll believe it when I'm playing it.
@Filth_Element I enjoyed it for what it was and it had great reviews. Visually it was great, you might as well say every game from before 2012 is crap visually lol ...
The thing is coz the Switch has mobile tech and uses Nvidia stuffs it's going to get more and more of these types of games ... The Switch is better than that but we ain't getting the big games no Witcher 3, resi7, overwatch, batman, COD, monster Hunter world, final fantasy and loads of newer games, can Switch even run Crysis??? ... Just can wait for Metroid
A third party game only coming to the Switch? Sacré bleu!
Apparently, it's a really good mobile game, so I might try it out.
@anders190
I too, but, Atari/Infogrames have (I guess) the IP of Test Drive, then, It's not possible, but, well, as we know and I repeat again, this game was developed by Eden games, the same of Test Drive unlimited 1 & 2, then, I believe that this game of Gear.Club unlimited (hehe, using unlimited in the name, some more to say) have the seal of those games.
@Ralek85
Yeah classic Burnout would be great. I preferred the versions before it went open world with Paradise.
I know a lot of mobile racing games are shallow, but I'm optimistic for this. It's from a developer who know what's needed to make a console racer and should be able to raise their game to meet those demands
I hate trailers like this. Show some gameplay ya bums! A camera panning around a bunch of cars doesn't count either lol unless the game is Racing Cameraman Simulator or whatnot.
Ah I'm old, ramble ramble lol
As long as it is a game on the go, I'm on it!
Cannot wait for this one. I hope they don't keep us waiting to long. Also hope they don't over price the digital download only like the 3ds Rally game which collects dust in the Eshop with about 50 downloads to its name.
@NintyNate "The thing is coz the Switch has mobile tech and uses Nvidia stuffs it's going to get more and more of these types of games ..."
That's exactly what I'm scared of. I have a 3ds as I want real gaming experiences on the go not these cheap mobile games that imo just are not good enough games. Not when you are used to console gaming. I'm not saying the visuals weren't up to scratch just boring character models and backgrounds. The backgrounds were rinsed and repeated too many times. Again this is just my personal experience and if you enjoyed it fair enough. But there are better games out there waaaaaaaaay more worth my time, this horrible drivel of software is not for me thanks. If the Switch got something like Devil May Cry a very old game I would rejoice. That's a game not Implosion!
Check out the official website. There is one actual in game screenshot, but may give you a better idea.
http://gear.club/
Good but not what I wanted. Waiting for a Need for Speed... Even the Wii U had that you know... (Looks like the "Even Wii U had ___" meme will not die soon)
Is there really any reason to think the Switch won't eventually have Need For Speed as well? Are there even any platforms NFS hasn't been on?
I'm just wondering if they will try and pass this on as a retail priced release. I hope not. At least release it physical if your going to try that again.
@electrolite77 Absolutely! I couldn't get into Paradise neither. Thankfully I have both Burnout Takedown and Burnout Revenge on my 360
Well, if the game turns out to be worthwhile, I'd be more than willing to give it a 2nd look, but for the time being, I would need some kind of actual incentive or reason to do so. Hence I'll stick to my scepticisms for the time being ^^
It does not particularly attract me but the more the merrier, right? I only care about F1 games, anyway. So... Codemasters, get a move on!
Went to the mobile website and checked out some footage. The Garage Building aspect looks like a neat diversion. Looks like the main game is a Burnout-wannabe, but that is my favorite racing franchise next to F-ZERO so... I guess if you are going to copy, copy the best. I just really want to see some awesome things done with the HD rumble; variable feedback based on terrain, knockback, etc.
I remember there being comments once upon a time complaining about the lack of analog triggers on Switch will spell no racing games on the system whatsoever, but strangely, I'm seeing devs with an interest to bring racing to the Switch. It's still way early on, but it pays not to worry so much and just let the system get started before complaining.
100% will eat 70 fresh switch cartridges of Zelda Breath of the Wild if this game turns out to be anything beyond completely average.
@Marshi HAHAH! I am not holding my breath either, however, if it takes a mobile developer to see Nintendo fans thirsty for a car sim, then good for them. Project Cars had their chance. I am more of a power sliding (Burnout / Ridge Racer), huge jumps (San Francisco Rush) type of racer. Mercedes shouldn't let me anywhere near their cars lmao.
@Ralek85
Yeah fair enough. I'm optimistic but I won't be surprised if I'm wrong to be. If that makes sense.
I am looking forward to this. I hope it gets a physical release.
