Once again, Captain Olimar finds himself crash landing onto a planet inhabited by Pikmin. It's up to you to team up once again with the Pikmin to overcome the many puzzles and enemies present; you'll need all the Pikmin help you can get to gather treasure and refuel his ship to return home!
That's the premise for Hey! Pikmin, the first 2D platformer and portable game in the series; it will launch on Nintendo 3DS consoles on 28th July. On that same day a new Hey! Pikmin amiibo will be available in stores. Nintendo will reveal new information on this new amiibo and the game in the future.

Dust off your 3ds, Switch owners! This looks pretty fun. I need like a month off just to game.
I need the Cloud Amiibos!
Id be interested in a new mainline pikmin but not this. Seems boring so far.
Yaay! More gratuitous amiibo implementation!
I have a feeling that more Pikmin amiibo will be announced closer to launch. Nintendo knows we hoarders are a weak people.
Eh, I'm still not too interested in this game. I'll just wait for Pikmin 4 or whatever that ends up being.
Zzzzzz...
They should have shown more! It looks cool but I'm doubtful as to whether the whole game will be good or if it will turn out like chibi robo zip lash
The amiibo seems more like a cheat then anything in this game : P
Awwww the cuteness of that amiibo is making me crazy!! I'm buying it!!
And that's 10 amiibos in the space of a week.
So long cash....
Definitely getting this. 3DS lives on.
Looks like fun and very similar to Kirby Mass Attack, which I enjoyed a lot.
I don't think that I'll pick this one up, I'd rather have it for the Switch. I'll get the Amiibo though.
@Captain_Gonru That's true. We have no official confirmation of that. It's just kind of inference from context. Keeping my fingers crossed for a Switch Pikmin reveal!
I'm not hyped for this like I will be for Pikmin 4 on Switch, but, for what it is it looks great.
I'll definitely be playing this, in between Arms and Splatoon 2
@Angelic_Lapras_King Take out a loan. Or sell kidneys...nobody said they had to be yours...
The game looks really cool for a spinoff.
i love pikmin but i need to see more first
In all honesty it looks OK, but nothing special.
@LegendOfPokemon IKR
Day One BUY !!!!
Can you tell that Pikmin is one of my fave Nintendo franchises ? haha
This looks really good, i am confident that Pikmin 4 is in development for the Switch too, but this one i think is actually more important in helping to broaden the IP's awareness, it's criminal how overlooked and undersold the previous Pikmin games all were, such a shame for such a fantastic series to still be so niche, i'd love to see it do a Fire Emblem and suddenly gain mainstream success, it's probably not likely, but who knows
So getting this. Probably not day 1, since my brother is getting married the next day. I won't wait too long though (if my budget allows).
@JaxonH @wiggleronacid @Captain_Gonru Oh wow, I was getting 99% sure this game was Pikmin 4. What is the evidence it's not?
My thinking is Miyamoto blabs accidentally about a 3DS game because he's not that interested in the 3DS version and it's not big on his radar. Can't imagine him just blurting out that a Wii U or Switch Pikmin 4 was complete after how precious Pikmin 3 was treated.
The promise of Pikmin applied to 2D platforming is pretty good. Just wish it was on something with higher resolution and a less dinky controller.
That amiibo, on the other hand, is a showcase piece. Love it.
@aaronsullivan yup, as @Captain_Gonru correctly said, there's a good dose of optimism but also that small detail in the title.
I myself think it has to be a mainline game on Switch simply because this, as much a Pikmin game as it is, shouldn't be a numbered entry due to its gameplay being radically different.
I simply find it hard to imagine Miyamoto calling this game Pikmin 4, as it's clearly a spin-off that's meant to be different from mainline entries.
Sure enough, the moment they mention Pikmin on Switch is the moment I'll be buying it lol
I'm sure Miyamoto also said that he was hard at work on Pikmin 4 but had to stall it whilst he worked on Mario Odyssey, which would also suggest that this Pikmin game is not the Pikmin 4 he talked of.
I thought I was done with amiibos but I WANT THAT. I don't have a 3DS and wont get this game but that amiibo is great.
"Remember during E3 2015 when Nintendo said Pikmin 4 was close to completion? Well, now it’s 2016. What’s the deal with Pikmin? According to Shigeru Miyamoto, progress on Pikmin 4 continues but it hasn’t been Nintendo’s top priority in recent months.
“Yes, you are right, and we’re working on [Pikmin 4],” Miyamoto told Gamerant at this year’s E3. “So, you know, when we’re in development we have to create a list of priorities and it has been hard to kind of fit that into that list, but we’re hopefully starting to see that on the list now.”
@Toadie Last time I checked it was 2017 in the middle of April....
@nobboysbro Really, thanks for pointing it out, i'd never have known
-_-
The point being, if he'd only just got around to full production of it late last year, and it was indeed this 3DS game, there's no way it would have been ready to release just a year later, which adds weight to the theory that he was indeed talking about the true Pikmin 4 and not this spin-off.
@aaronsullivan Most people don't think this is Pikmin 4 b/c I do, and that's enough reason for most people on here. It seems to me about 20% of people on here think this is P4, 80% are waiting for the Switch announcement. For the game that was "nearly complete" in summer 2015, nearly 2 years ago, but we haven't seen screen shot 1 of and not a word has been said about since this game was revealed.
At least Project Giant Robot may have morphed into ARMS. Not the actual Gamepad use, but the idea of a fighting game. And we did finally get the other Project game.
At this point, even if Pikmin Switch got announced at E3 we'd call it Pikmin 5, this is 4 to us, nobody is calling it "Hey, Pikmin". Not ever.
I'll look forward to this game more when it's confirmed this is not what Pikmin is now. After what they did to Paper Mario, my trust isn't high. If it's merely a spinoff, it looks really good, actually. But, if this is the future of Pikmin? Angry face!
@aaronsullivan There is no eveidence it is or isn't Pikmin 4. It could very well be and it could very well not be.
The only reason I'm thinking it's not is due to the context from Nintendo itself: "We can confirm that Pikmin 4 is in development but that is all we can confirm at present" (https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/09/pikmin_4_is_very_close_to_completion_though_its_platform_is_unclear). That just led me to thinking Pikmin "Switch", I suppose, was being worked on. Who knows, though.
don't worry, people. there is a pikmin 4 in development, and this is not it. they called hey! pikmin to make it clear. the other gameplay style is tried and true and even managed a million sales on the wii u, so, unlike f-zero, nintendo still likes it.
Not a big fan of the name. But I love Pikmin, and 2d platforming - so I'll keep a close eye on this one.
An almost complete Pikmin 4 would be an obvious choice for a "surprise" announcement at E3 with a close release date, like e.g. Captain Toad was.
Ninty put a lot of love into creating an HD Pikmin for WiiU and no doubt had Pikmin4 ideas bubbling away straight after development. Given the slightly disappointing sales of Pikmin3 and atrocious WiiU sales they've probably been holding on to fleshing out these ideas to form Pikmin4 for a better time to release. The 3DS game probably took a small team a relatively short amount of time to develop and it should raise the public awareness of Pikmin setting up the release of the real Pikmin on Switch!!! E3 Pikmin announcement for surprise late summer release!! The game will feature amazing 2-4 player local co-op battles!! I'm dreaming again...
it is nice to have a Pikmin game for the Nintendo 3DS, but when are we getting one for the Nintendo Switch?
Rumour has it this is 2D only, no 3D effects.
@gcunit Makes sense, the game uses both screens and so it would be pretty jarring if a big enemy was displayed across both screens at once with the top half 3D and the bottem half not.
Awful name let's be honest. Unless the "hey" has some relation to the gameplay. It sounds more like a party game or something. Looks good though.
@gcunit aaaaand so the 3D era has come to an end. Pokémon didn't use 3D (performance reasons?) Dragon Quest 8 didn't use 3D (same reason) I'm sure there are a few others too. Interestingly Smash and Xenoblade both managed to pull off the effect despite being huge games. Can't remember the last 3DS game I played that used the 3D feature. Really feels like they've abandoned it now, when it would have been a priority at the start of the consoles life cycle to really make sure they had the game able to run in 3D. Sadly, the 3DS is dying a slow death indeed.
@gcunit I'll be playing on my 2DS, so its a non-issue for me.
Can't wait for more Pikmin!
@thehoppypoppy
Congratulations!
In other news:
Tell me this isn't Pikmin 4.
Not fussed about the game, but that amiibo looks great.
@Captain_Gonru As far as i know it was conmfirmed shortly after the reveal that it is not Pikmin 4.
