It's the festive season and many are starting to put their feet up and eat too much food — not us, we'll be bringing you features every day throughout the Holiday period. Nintendo of Europe's boss, Satoru Shibata, has left a fairly lengthy message for Nintendo fans, talking about his move into hosting Nintendo Direct and his own experiences so far with Wii U.
At one point we believe he thanks us, here at Nintendo Life, for including his recent performance of Call Me Maybe in our Memorable Nintendo Direct Moments feature. Read the excerpt below and decide for yourself.
I was also flattered when one gaming website listed me singing Call Me Maybe as one of the ‘Memorable Nintendo Direct Moments’ (thank you!). I admit that it was embarrassing to sing in public, but I’m glad I did it in the end if it helped to convey the fun of the game. To tell you the truth, that song was very difficult to sing because the pitch doesn’t change a lot in the beginning of the chorus, but after having practised more than 30 times, I was able to achieve over 90 points in Practice Mode! And yet despite that, the Nintendo Direct team only used a five-second clip of me singing in the end…
Considering that we did indeed honour Shibata-san's performance in an entry called "Shibata's Got Talent", and he quoted the name of the feature word for word, we're going to assume that Nintendo Life got a mention...
Elsewhere in the message Shibata-san explains that he's trying to improve his FPS skills, and that his wife was asking for a tablet device for Christmas until she browsed the web using the Wii U GamePad. He also encourages everyone with a Wii U to get the system online in order to access all of the good stuff.
We recommend that you read the whole Christmas greetings message for yourself. We wish a Merry Christmas to everyone at Nintendo of Europe, and also anyone else who reads this, of course.

i was unaware anyone played fps' on nintendo consoles
Satoru Shibata sang call me maybe for a Nintendo Direct? I think you Europeans get better Nintendo Directs than us
Did anyone notice that apparently his family has to buy their own Wii U? No freebies for the boss, i like that.
@SirQuincealot Zombie U counts.
@SirQuincealot Actually there is a good amount of people that play FPS games on the wii.
Considering the Wii U has been out a month, and it has the world's best selling FPS, not to mention Zombie U, I think it's fair to say that Wii U owners do play FPS. We are just not obsessed with them like many PS3 & 360 owners.
I like this guy now.
Does Reggie ever read comment on his Nintendo Directs?
@Koto
ditto.
I bet @James put in a good word for you guys.
@luminalace THIS. Yeah, I'm not sure on the majority of Nintendo fans playing many FPS', but I don't play them, no way am I obsessed with them. But the more the merrier I guess, I got ZombiU with my WiiU so I guess you could count me along side those Wii/WiiU owners that play FPS'.
Shibata and Iwata are great Presidents =) Reggie... while fun, i dont like him THAT much, Iwata and Shibata are so classy !!!
@Void I agree, @James definitely helped with this.
Shibata is a legend.
Just in case he's actually reading this...
Please bump up the release of Fire Emblem: Awakening. How's tomorrow for instance?
Wow, that's awesome! This is easily the greatest Nintendo fan site on the internet (imo) hence it's not an overly large suprise but still really cool. I think Shibata has done an awesome job on Nintendo Direct & I greatly look forward to lots of jokes on the next ND
@Void Ha, yeah probably.
Metroid Prime.
Medal of Honour.
I asked for BO2 for Christmas and I got COD3 and WAW for the Wii...
I like FPSes. I just don't put them in my top list of games because for a game to really wow me, it has to be able to stand up on the Single Player. Many FPSes I play don't do that. Call of Duty has miraculous online and multiplayer, but the campaigns' shortness and lacklustre stories (sometimes) leave a bad taste in my mouth.
Hehe, yeah, the first thing I though of when reading that part was that one Nintendolife feature. Not surprising in the least as this really is one of the best Nintendo focussed sites IMHO.
Really like Shibata. You could tell he was rather shy and certainly nervous in the first couple of Nintendo Directs, but that's only normal.
It really strikes me how Nintendo tends to have these genuine, down to earth people in key spots. Their humble ways sure are in stark contrast to certain other personalities from companies that I'm not going to name right now.
Release first the tones of Games that have been Released in japan! AND im sure that he owns à japanese 3ds and doesn't care about european gamers
@Mk_II
well im sure you feel equal to them then
@Void: Lol that is exactly what I was thinking.
Theres only one real Reggie, but Iwata is doing a good job
Big Shibata is watching you ^^
Well done guys, Shibata is listening!
I have to ask something to Nintendo Europe : why a lot of games didn't Release here? Millions öf european People bought ds and wii.. Why Just a little GAME such as picross e took 1.5 year to be Released? İt's why i bought à japanese 3ds !
From Mr Shibata's post: "I jump for joy when I read that someone is excited about an upcoming game that I announced. Conversely, I feel down when I read comments such as “I’m disappointed that there was no new information” or “The release date is too far ahead!” (which was the case last time…)."
If any Nintendo staff ever happen to read the comments: please don't feel down. I don't know about others, but when I say something like that, it's exactly because I'm excited about the game. ND is a great way to hear about upcoming games, and once you hear about it and like what you heard, naturally you would like a release date so you can get it as soon as it's ready. So, it is not meant as a negative comment as much as it is anticipation for a game and hoping that the wait won't be (too) long. If people still remember - still care - that such a game is in the works, you've already done something right.
Thanks for the ND and for reading player comments. Merry Christmas!
