Mk_II commented on Talking Point: Should Zelda Go Episodic?:

Zelda sales have always been minor compared to Mario and Pokemon. But i think Nintendo sees it as their showpiece / flagship franchise that doesnt have to be very profitable as long as it gets so much critical acclaim.

Mk_II commented on Interview: Michael Inglis - Building LEGO Zelda:

"I still remain slightly optimistic in that we have seen both Mario Kart K’Nex and Pokemon Mega Bloks in the past". Exactly what i said here some time ago. I too shall remain slightly optimistic. If LEGO puts their considerable weight behind this, it could very well convince Nintendo.

Those LotR minfigures will be awesome! Now lets hope they get the Zelda franchise as well. It could happen (ref. the Kinect Mario Kart sets) but otherwise these LotR sets will probably provide some excellent material to fashion your own Link.

Agreed. And I'm really looking forward to Super Smash Bros. 3D now... it will be totally brilliant if Kid Icarus Uprising is anything to go by.

Kid Icarus has a lot of franchise potential. The AR cards are a brilliant move and could make a bundle for Nintendo if they play their cards right (pun intended). Nintendo: please release the soundtrack album in the West, get those cards in the shops now and add a couple of t-shirts and other promo loot to build up the profile.

Cool ! I knew they were thinking about this (they asked me about it in a survey) and i was really hoping it would happen. Lots of good Nintendo news today!

BTW: they suggested a retail price of 1 euro for a pack of six random cards. i think that would be excellent value for money. OTOH im (almost) sorry i already "wasted" some Club Nintendo points on extra card packs. Ah well, such is life!

Mk_II commented on Nintendo Reveals New Super Mario Bros. 2 for 3DS:

Poor Nintendo... if they give everyone what they want they are accused of milking their franchises. If they don't, everyone complains about a lack of major titles. IMHO you cant blame a business for trying to provide the products they know will sell millions

Awesome! i assume you also qualify if you have already registered XC and TLS?

Yep. just checked the site, the news is up there now on the front page. Loosely translated: "members who registered all three games (standard or limited editions) with Club Nintendo will receive notification that they are eligible for the RPG coin collection (while stocks last)"

Mk_II commented on Mobile Dev: "Iwata Makes Me Fear for Nintendo'...:

free-to-play is a dead end street, nothing more than a typical marketing ploy. It will never be able to provide the optimal game experience, it will chip away at the market share of the premium titles and in the long run it will prove not to be a viable business model. Never mind that it's a crappy deal for consumers

Mk_II commented on Feature: The Mistakes of the 3DS Launch:

the 3DS was released rather soon-ish so the first sales rush would strengthen the company results in fiscal year 2010 (which ended March 31). It was purely a financial decision

Mk_II commented on Nintendo Leaves BAFTA Empty-Handed:

I think this was payback... Game / Gamestation are the main sponsors of the BAFTA awards and they are peeved off that Nintendo doesnt extend their line of credit and insists on cash payments instead.

Mk_II commented on Pokémon Champion Stripped of Title After Hote...:

I am not surprised they have taken this action and wholly support it. The Pokemon Company is, as the name suggests, a company. They will not tolerate to see their brand tainted by the negative publicity from this incident. They sell most of their wares to chldren (read: parents) and anything controversial will directly affect their bottomline. Those Spanish morons are lucky they're not being sued for breach of contract.

i really dont like the trend towards digital manuals. i understand the reasons but i just love the whole package of a game; the box and manual are an important part of the expierence to me.

Mk_II commented on Nintendo Rejects The Binding of Isaac:

Nintendo is very determined to be seen as family-friendly and i think it makes a lot of sense for them. They, like McDonalds, know very well that if you've got them young, you've got them for life.
