a more limited line up of games and a fairly high price.

First off if you have not got the money, you shouldn't really be buying any console. A console is a luxury for entertainment, $349 to $399 is not a massive difference at all. The Wii U line-up of games is good but, a fair few of them are not out until spring 2014. The PS4 line-up of games going up to spring 2014 like the Wii U, has a lot more games and a lot of games haven't even be announced yet, so far from limited. If anything the Wii U has a limited amount of games for the time its been out.

We talking just exclusives right?

Right now the PS4 only has two games announced for next year via Infamous and The Order.

Wii U has six games for next year so far two of which will probably be early 2014. (Bayo 2 and Mario Kart 8)

The best thing would be to buy a Wii U now and a PS4 next year and get the best of both worlds.

Plus, Nintendo hasn't even announced A TON of games according to them. We could get like 5 $10-15 level eShop games in that time frame. It would boost eShop just by adding little things like that, regularly.

@SCAR392 Yep, they want to announce those closer to release. Just looking at how they casually revealed Art Academy for Wii U it's obvious they have a plethora of games at that stage of development but not ready for the big reveal yet.

@Sony_70 Haven't you forgotten Killzone Shadow Fall and Knack and Drive Club? Aren't these launch titles? Because from the way you're highlighting it for the PS4 I'm actually getting concerned for the platform...

I was mostly talking about games for early next year and the ones you mentioned are 2013 releases.

well we've known about Art Academy since E3. Now were waiting on the full release.

So far on the horizon we have.

Bayonetta 2
Untitled

Mario Kart 8
Untitled

Yarn Yoshi
Untitled

Super Smash Bros for Wii U
Untitled

X
Untitled

Shin Megami Tensi X Fire Emblem
Untitled

Pretty Decent line-up overall. I think for the second second Wave of Wii U games Nintendo should go all out with online functionality since third party games won't be that reliable.

I also hope that Yarn Yoshi is retooled as a 3D platforme, because the Wii U doesn't need any more 2D ones. .

Nintendo dropped the ball with most of 2013 as far the Wii U goes and everyone knows it by now. However i believe 2014 will be what 2013 has been for the 3DS, bucket loads of quality 1st party titles padded with a few outstanding 3rd party offerings.

So maybe Nintendo should move their W101 release date in the US earlier into August.  Because taking a look at VG Charts it looks as if the W101 pre-orders in the US are being negatively impacted by GTA5 being released in the same week.  Since the W101 pre-orders for the US are at 2,800 and GTA5 is 400,000+.  That, or Americans are just not that into W101.  Now I'm not saying its a bad game, I wish it were coming to ps3 or 360,  it's just a horrible week to release it in the states.

Now you may not believe in VG Charts but for the sake of argument, if you don't believe VG please show me a site disproving these numbers.

I also know the numbers are from Aug 3rd, but they're the latest I've seen, so if you have more current stats, please share.

I can agree with this. Its partly why I waited instead of getting one at launch when I had the chance.

But are they really the same audiences? Maybe people who are potentially into W101 aren't looking at getting GTA5 at all. I mean they have to get a Wii U for a start and the closest game to it this year is Pikmin 3. Wouldn't an earlier release have just put it it more direct competition with Pikmin 3?

It's like the Wii U launch last year when it was potentially going to be Rayman Legends and New SMB U. I had personally decided not to get New SMB U at all before I heard that Rayman Legends was delayed. Now Rayman Legends is launching at about the same time as W101 here and I'll definitely get it over W101. GTAV however I haven't really been into since Vice City. So what's really competing with W101 for sales?

Well either they are the same audience and they're pre ordering GTA5 now & maybe will pick up W101 later.

Or they're not the same audience & this W101 audience you speak of is made up of a very, very small group of people.

For pre-order? Yes. I'd say the W101 audience is very small

With a game like GTA or Rayman there's this collective knowledge of how good the series is. People got the last one and want to be part of the next one. Reviews don't matter, word of mouth doesn't matter. It's a new version of a known thing so people pre-order it. For W101 even the people who own the platform, and lets not forget that the install base for 360+PS3 is about 50x the Wii U, are probably waiting for some of the reviews to be out before they pre-order.

Like I said I think the bigger competition to W101 is Pikmin 3 because it's on the same platform and a similar sort of game. Lets not forget that last time GTA launched it launched alongside Mario Kart Wii. It did nothing to the sales of Mario Kart Wii or at the very least if it did it didn't have much of an impact.

You're comparing a new IP on a new console to ONE OF THEM MOST POPULAR FRANCHISES IN GAMING ON 2 DIFFERENT CONSOLES...THAT WERE RELEASED OVER 6 YEARS AGO! Yeah, I think any same audience might not have too much to do with that.

No I'm saying W101 looks like a good game that shouldn't be released in the US the same week as ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR FRANCHISES.  But I will compare W101 pre orders of 2,800 to pikmin 3 US  pre orders of 60,000 and pikmin 3 isn't a lock to sell a ton in the first place.  But if you think W101 will up their pre orders by 50,000+ in 33 or so days, I'll ask what your doctor has been treating you for.  But my initial point is that they shouldn't drop W101 along side ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR FRANCHISES.  Drop it instead like UK in late Aug & give the game a chance.

I'm assuming you mean GTA, and if so, I doubt it'll make any difference. This game wasn't going to sell well to begin with and the majority who buys GTA won't be interested in this title anyway.

Looking forward to: ZeldaU & Hyrule Warriors

Clearly @uptownsoul is not going to change his mind, so we might as well move on to a different topic.

Pertaining to the title of this thread, I've actually been seeing a whole slew of positive videos/articles around the 'net concerning the Wii U. IGN recently put out that video with two of their editors (one a Playstation editor, no less) talking about Nintendo and specifically the Wii U. The theme sort of came out to: things seem to be getting better and, perhaps, the system is even poised to go for the jugular. Paraphrased, of course.

But there does seem to be this growing realization that the games ARE, indeed, coming, and soon there will be plenty of excellent reasons to buy a Wii U, even amidst the noise of hype flying from Microsoft's and Sony's upcoming machines. Nintendo has the games you literally (legally) CANNOT get ANYWHERE else. I think Sonic being exclusive is going to be more of a system boost than we realize now, too. Sonic fans are still out there, and if the new games rock, they will come.

Seems like that's what Nintendo is hoping for.

I'm curious as to what the third game in their exclusivity contract is. We've only seen Lost World & The Olympic Games thus far.
