Nintendo dropped the ball with most of 2013 as far the Wii U goes and everyone knows it by now. However i believe 2014 will be what 2013 has been for the 3DS, bucket loads of quality 1st party titles padded with a few outstanding 3rd party offerings.
I can agree with this. Its partly why I waited instead of getting one at launch when I had the chance.

So maybe Nintendo should move their W101 release date in the US earlier into August. Because taking a look at VG Charts it looks as if the W101 pre-orders in the US are being negatively impacted by GTA5 being released in the same week.
But are they really the same audiences? Maybe people who are potentially into W101 aren't looking at getting GTA5 at all. I mean they have to get a Wii U for a start and the closest game to it this year is Pikmin 3. Wouldn't an earlier release have just put it it more direct competition with Pikmin 3?
It's like the Wii U launch last year when it was potentially going to be Rayman Legends and New SMB U. I had personally decided not to get New SMB U at all before I heard that Rayman Legends was delayed. Now Rayman Legends is launching at about the same time as W101 here and I'll definitely get it over W101. GTAV however I haven't really been into since Vice City. So what's really competing with W101 for sales?

For pre-order? Yes. I'd say the W101 audience is very small
With a game like GTA or Rayman there's this collective knowledge of how good the series is. People got the last one and want to be part of the next one. Reviews don't matter, word of mouth doesn't matter. It's a new version of a known thing so people pre-order it. For W101 even the people who own the platform, and lets not forget that the install base for 360+PS3 is about 50x the Wii U, are probably waiting for some of the reviews to be out before they pre-order.
Like I said I think the bigger competition to W101 is Pikmin 3 because it's on the same platform and a similar sort of game. Lets not forget that last time GTA launched it launched alongside Mario Kart Wii. It did nothing to the sales of Mario Kart Wii or at the very least if it did it didn't have much of an impact.
You're comparing a new IP on a new console to ONE OF THEM MOST POPULAR FRANCHISES IN GAMING ON 2 DIFFERENT CONSOLES...THAT WERE RELEASED OVER 6 YEARS AGO! Yeah, I think any same audience might not have too much to do with that.
I'm assuming you mean GTA, and if so, I doubt it'll make any difference. This game wasn't going to sell well to begin with and the majority who buys GTA won't be interested in this title anyway.

Clearly @uptownsoul is not going to change his mind, so we might as well move on to a different topic.
Pertaining to the title of this thread, I've actually been seeing a whole slew of positive videos/articles around the 'net concerning the Wii U. IGN recently put out that video with two of their editors (one a Playstation editor, no less) talking about Nintendo and specifically the Wii U. The theme sort of came out to: things seem to be getting better and, perhaps, the system is even poised to go for the jugular. Paraphrased, of course.
But there does seem to be this growing realization that the games ARE, indeed, coming, and soon there will be plenty of excellent reasons to buy a Wii U, even amidst the noise of hype flying from Microsoft's and Sony's upcoming machines. Nintendo has the games you literally (legally) CANNOT get ANYWHERE else. I think Sonic being exclusive is going to be more of a system boost than we realize now, too. Sonic fans are still out there, and if the new games rock, they will come.

Seems like that's what Nintendo is hoping for.
I'm curious as to what the third game in their exclusivity contract is. We've only seen Lost World & The Olympic Games thus far.
I don't think it would take off but it won't die eiither, it will keep hanging in there for the remaining of the generation, I predict about 30 million total sales in 6 years of lifetime, something similar to the gamecube
I guess one could expect that Nintendo, which does have plenty of finances at this point in time, should likely launch significant marketing campaigns along with the upcoming exclusive and multi platform games that are on the way.
I am optimistic that given the upcoming game lineup, the unique features of the console, Nintendo's financial position and capability to market this thing over Christmas will result in a good pickup on sales.
Guess we need to revisit this forum topic in March eh!
[....] But I will compare W101 pre orders of 2,800 to pikmin 3 US pre orders of 60,000 and pikmin 3 isn't a lock to sell a ton in the first place [...]
But Pikmin 3 is a well established franchise that has been around for a decade. People know what they're getting into with Pikmin. Plus it's a "Miyamoto game" and a new version of it has been talked about since 2007 in some form or another. The first anyone heard about W101 was at least year's E3.

Right now the PS4 only has two games announced for next year via Infamous and The Order.
Wii U has six games for next year so far two of which will probably be early 2014. (Bayo 2 and Mario Kart 8)
The best thing would be to buy a Wii U now and a PS4 next year and get the best of both worlds.
Sorry didn't realize you was talking exclusives but the average customer probably doesn't know what an exclusive is, apart from a game. There is a fair few people that don't game on a PC too, so would of not played some of the games that is on the PS4 & coming.
I think the Wii U will do alright, in the long term.
In this business, you gotta make the games first. Then when you get the games, you get the media attention. Then when you get the media attention, then you get the sales.
Not sure "take off" is the right words to use. It will do well but its momentum into next year depends on how regularly nintendo releases compelling software
I am doing a free give away for my website. See inside for details :P
If they drop the price then yes it will pick up when it gets more games.
$350 is a lot of money for anyone to spend in a recession.
Price drop has absolutely no sense????
If XBOX ONE is selling for 499$ whats wrong with Wii U 350$?
Something something different expectations for different technology. Still that $499 is the Wii U's saving grace at hitting #2. I personally thing Microsoft will do the full 180 and announce a $399 price point but that's beside the point.

Hitting #2? Compared to what, the PS4? Give me a break, man. Anything could happen here.
The Wii U could be the best selling this generation for all we know. Hell, even the Xbox One could outsell if something crazy happens. For as much crap/BS talk people like to give Wii U owners and Xbox One fans, it sure seems like they don't think very hard.

Dude you seem to be overeacting big time. Right now the Wii U just isn't that much Value for the price and the Xbox One is $100 to expensive and has alot of the actual functionality hidden behind a paywall. Its not that hard to figure out that the PS4 will probably be seen as the better Value to most people. Its hitting a pretty nice sweet spot Value wise and right now has the most support thus far. (That could all change next week at Gamescom however.)
Not really knocking the WIi Unut to be honest even that #2 is pretty generous. Despite getting a Wii U first depending on the Xbox One's price (I expect it to be dropped to 399 before launch.), than I personally think the Wii U will be number 3.
Also you seem to take these things a bit too personally. I didn't even mention fans of either system in my post. I don't really care what platform you like since I'll have all three by next fall. However at this point its wishful thinking for some sort of miraculous Wii U turn around. If it doesn't take off this holiday season than that's it and the system will be left somwhere between the dreamcast and Gamecube. The one bi Ace card nintenod has left s Mario Kart and that isn't hitting till spring.
