i'd also like metroid 3DS to be a side scroller... i would like the next generation 3DS to come out with two thumbsticks and launch with an amazing metroid FPS ... that would be cool .

I don't play games, I defeat 'em!

Far out I'm sick of people doing this reggie starts posting videos about legend of zelda items and people think his coming to vgx to show loz it is unnecessary hype..... He wears a pin of metroid and makes one little comment and people think it's gonna be shown "soon" I won't be getting my hopes up.

Nope its an FPS. Its like saying Dark Souls isn't a JRPG or that bongos donket kong game not a platformer.

Metroid Prime is in a weird place where it's clearly an FPS by definition but is too different from an FPS for me to just call it an FPS I either consider it the middle ground between a Portal like game and a Bioshock like game. Or as an "action adventure" title whose secondary genre is FPS. Or something. Of course Hunters was more FPS than action adventure and 3 was a strange middle ground but that's besides the point.

I wouldn't mind a game expanding upon the tracks Echoes put down. I liked the oppressive feeling of Dark Aether, the limited beam ammo, and just the whole game period. Then again, I'm a sucker for Survival-Horror-esqe Metroid games (Metroid II is my second favorite Metroid, following Echoes). If they could hit the tone of Echoes, the size of Prime, the pacing of Corruption, and add a Hunters-like multiplayer, I'd be instantly sold on it.

I'd like the next Metroid to be more like Other M. I know people hated it and I'm not proposing the game should have the same mechanics, but a third person perspective could work great since the series had a fair amount of platforming.

Reggie said there wasn't going to be a drought like 2013... I figured they'd surprise us with an announcement.

They have a lot more than just MK8, SSB4 & DKC though..

I'm pretty sure SMTxFE, X, Yarn Yoshi & Bayonetta 2 are all planned for 2014. Either way, Reggie is a PR guy, he'll say whatever it takes to make Nintendo look/sound good and twist the truth as much as he can.

Retro could be working on Starfox, for all we know. That series needs WAY more attention than Metroid; borderline F-Zero attention. Starfox has just as much potential to be the Nintendo shooter game, if not more, in terms of multiplayer. F-Zero won't happen until Mario Kart 8 settles down, at the very least.

A Starfox game would most likely be 3rd person like it always has been.

My point is that Nintendo has alot more teams than just Retro, and any one of them could be working on whatever. I'd bet Nintendo has like 90% of it's game development division working on games, with the rest being flexible in case they need help elsewhere as leeway.

I'm almost certain a Metroid game is being made. By Retro? Not likely, IMO.

And once again the internet is reading way too much into one tiny little detail, over-hyping it, and setting itself up for disappointment. You gotta love that 24 hour amnesia everyone on the internet seems to have. Chances are if a new Metroid game is being worked on, it's being worked on by someone other the retro, and chances are it is still years away.

i would love to see a brand new 2.5D metroid game for the 3DS & metroid prime trilogy HD for the Wii U

@DudeSean The Metroid Prime series is not of the FPS genre. They are an entirely new genre. FPA= First Person Adventure

They are definitely FPS games with platforming and adventure elements. You don't get to invent a new genre when a game that you like belongs to a genre that you don't like

Nice to see someone else who appreciates Echoes. An absolutely fantastic game in my opinion. Prime 1 and Echoes are two of the best games I have ever played. I would love to see Nintendo return to the Prime series on Wii U and make a 2D Metroid for the 3DS. I wouldn't mind seeing a 2D Metroid on the Wii U just as long as we get a new Prime game as well. The more Metroid the better. I hope Nintendo has multiple Metroids in development, but that is probably very unlikely. Considering Retro is working on DKC we probably will not see a Prime game for at least another 2-3 years.

I loved the Prime series. I'm still in the middle of beating Echoes but I've completed Prime 1 and Corruption and loved both of them. I've played a lot of the original Metroid, although never finished it, and personally think that first person is definitely the way to go for console Metroids. It just makes the atmosphere feel much more realistic and like you're actually on this strange planet. And since the point of the series is to go around the galaxy as a bounty hunter, I think first person is the best option for offering that bounty hunter feeling.

Now what I would like specifically from the game, and I've said this a few times on this site before, is for it to take a hint from Mass Effect and implement an open world. You could travel around to different planets, accept different missions for killing this monster or that monster, help people out with their problems. You know, typical side quest stuff. When I was playing through Prime 1 a few months ago, I was always thinking "What if you could go to different planets and accept whatever mission of your choice, just like a real bounty hunter..." And then I played Corruption and it had flying to other planets, although not on the scale that I was thinking. I think that's one of the biggest reasons I favored the 3rd in the trilogy over the others, is because, for me, it seemed to just improve everything in the previous 2 and add what I wanted from the others. Now if they could just take Corruption and multiply it times 10, then we would have a truly epic Metroid game!

It's sorta weird, but after Other M I'd kinda like to see a Metroid game that doesn't feature Samus as the lead. Maybe allow players to customize their own bounty hunter.

I've been wanting a Metroid game that doesn't feature Samus as the lead since Metroid Prime Hunters introduced six new hunters to the series. I would happily purchase a Metroid game where any one of them is the star. I'd probably be more excited for that game than I would another game with Samus as the lead too. Overall, I feel Hunters can offer a lot of potential for where the Metroid Series can go. There are plenty of missions to be had off of that game.

metroid pinball! actually i never played the ds one, but ive been thinking about checking it out.

what would be cool in metroid is if you could actually fly your ship around to different planets, and maybe actually be a bounty hunter.

This, so much yes. Your idea of "open-world" or in this case, more like "open-universe" is awesome and I don't know why I didn't think of it. It seems so obvious. That's one thing I loved so much about Mass Effect. An open universe and side quests from a hub planet or even from your ships logs, would be freaking amazing in a Metroid game, especially one in the vein of Prime. I hope they do something like this. Also, there is something at the end of Metroid Prime: Corruption if you get a 100%. I believe it shows some other Bounty Hunter from another game, I'm not sure who it was. I think they could even pick up from where they left off on that point and kind of explain what that was all about. I was pretty clueless when I saw it. I also think it might be cool, if maybe.. you played as another character, perhaps that Bounty Hunter they showed at the end of Prime. They'd just have to have drastically different play-styles/abilities to make it interesting and worth having the other character.

Metroid on the Wii U could be the best thing ever.

Nintendo would have to make it as much like Metroid Prime as possible. Not like Metroid Prime 3... When they make the game, they need to ensure the shooting controls are beautiful and perfect as a dual analog shooter should be, but not focus entirely on shooting as they did with Metroid Prime Hunters and Metroid Prime 3.

The game needs to be about exploration in the beautiful and varied worlds like they've done in previous Metroid titles and keep it with as little dialogue as possible. Make the game a Nintendo Power/GameFaqs game if necessary.

Of course, they'll need an online multiplayer (and local multiplayer) option. Support for the Wiimote and Nunchuck and Pro Controller is a must. High quality Metroid locales. Interesting enemies that require different and unique strategies to take down. A few gamepad gimmicks here or there for the single player only campaign (scanning, hacking, or whatever).

Just don't make it a shoot-fest.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.

I'd love to see a new FPS Metroid, but I fear for the franchises future after Other M. The game wasn't bad, but Nintendo seems to be facing the storm of opposition and completely ignoring it. Why is it that in Smash Bros Melee and Brawl, the character model for Samus was based off of Super Metroid, and then the new ones are based on Other M? Playing favorites much? I get national pride but come on! Nobody would prefer Other M over Prime...

I think a new FPS Metroid would change quite a bit. The recharging health bars from other shooters would do a lot to improve the action, but requiring you to come out of cover in quick bursts to recover your hp, but it would likely reach a compromise with the health upgrades by requiring you to draw from a finite pool of health to recharge from, and also allowing you to upgrade your maximum shield capacity.

I think dual analog controls are long overdue as well. Wii-remote and nunchuck controls worked for Prime 3 and the trilogy remake, but they've been done now and I'd rather just go back to the way I'm used to controlling than to deal with the deadzone. The gamepad has a lot of potential too, such as using it as a special visor, like thermal or scan, without switching. It could also display the signature 3D map quite well, or allow you to switch between a wider array of weapons more quickly. I think, ideally, I'd like to see jump and shoot be moved to the shoulders, so that you can move, aim, jump, and shoot all at the same time, much as you're able to do in the 2D games. Finally, the motion controls of the gamepad would be awesome if they were used to after-touch your aim like in the Wind Waker HD. I loved how it worked in Metroid Blast, but a dedicated Metroid game would definitely make more use of the right analog for looking around.

A 2D Metroid game would be cool too, but only on the Wii U with dual analog. If it's on the 3DS then there really isn't anything new they could do that would make it worth doing. I also think they need to push out the 3D FPS one first too, if possible.

And to whoever said A Link Between Worlds does too much handholding, I'd reply that it only does just enough. I'm actually having trouble with that game now that I've gotten into Lorule. It's causing me to think about the puzzles in ways I'm not used to, which I'd say is a huge win for them.

GotWiiD

we'll id like it to have good online multiplayer.

Wii U : GotWiiD

^ I can definitely agree with that. I think all games should have at least some type of online multiplayer now, despite the people complaining about how it might ruin the single-player experience. Just look at Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. That game has a great single-player campaign and the multiplayer was surprisingly good. If Luigi's Mansion can do it, Metroid can do it. Nintendo needs to open up to online multiplayer.
