Samus06 commented on Preview: Super Mario 3D World:

Would I be correct in assuming that since the multiplayer supports the Wii remote/nunchuk, Wii U pro controller, and classic controller that the single player will also be supporting all these controller options? I really hope so.

Samus06 commented on Eiji Aonuma Wants it to be "Fun To Get Stuck" ...:

This sounds great. I was worried that Nintendo was going in the direction of Skyward Sword for future Zelda games. When you are being told where to go and what to do constantly throughout the game, you can never experience that satisfaction you get from solving a puzzle after sticking with it or figuring out where to go next in the game. What most of the pre Skyward Sword Zelda games were great at was giving you hints through talking to NPCs or just exploring the land. You would eventually figure out what to do next in those games and when you did it felt great to have done it on your own. In Skyward Sword I never once had that feeling of satisfaction I got from previous Zelda games when I solved a puzzle or I figured out where to go next on my own. Hearing this from Nintendo makes me hopeful for this game and future Zelda games. I can't wait to play this game!

Samus06 commented on Eiji Aonuma States Desire to Avoid the Limitat...:

What I want is a huge connected world like Twilight Princess but twice the size or even bigger. But with that I want the world to be filled with bustling towns, tons of characters to talk to, and tons of secrets to discover. That was one of my two main issues I had with Skyward Sword. The world was broken up into chunks and there was almost nothing contained within the world to discover. It was a fairly empty and lifeless world.
Another issue I had with Skyward Sword was the excessive hand holding. One of the best aspects of Zelda games for me is trying to figure out where to go and what to do next on your own by talking to characters and exploring the land. I felt like that was missing in Skyward Sword.
I want Nintendo to really concentrate on creating a lively world to explore and not get caught up on wii motion plus controls. Exploration is why I love Zelda games so much.

For anyone wondering, these games are available on the NA VC too. I was super excited to learn about this news because I missed out on Ninja Spirit and R-Type.
Thanks to mexlost for posting about this in the Wii virtual console forum.

I can't pass this up. One of my favorite Zelda games. I'm actually really glad the pro controller is supported. As convenient as it would be to have quick access to your inventory and maps on the gamepad screen, I prefer a smaller more traditional controller when I'm playing lengthy games. I can't wait to play this game again and in HD!

Samus06 commented on Miyamoto: Mario Will Likely Return To Single-P...:

As much as I loved the Galaxy games, I really don't want to see a Galaxy 3. I would much rather Nintendo return to the 64/Sunshine style. But I would take another Galaxy game over nothing. Nintendo needs to make a grand 3D Mario adventure for the Wii U. 3D World doesn't look like that grand Mario adventure I wanted.

I hope the new Zelda has a much more lively world than Skyward Sword. With the exception of a couple islands in the sky, the whole world felt very hollow. When I compare it to previous Zeldas, there was just much more going on in the worlds of those games compared to Skyward Sword.

Can't wait for Wind Waker HD! I'm very curious to see what the art style will be like for the new Wii U Zelda. I really hope they stick with Gamepad and pro controller controls for the new Zelda. The motion controls in Skyward Sword worked well, but I prefer traditional controls much more.

I don't get all the hate Twilight Princess gets. It is an excellent game in my opinion, and I would actually put it in my top 5 favorite Zeldas. I hope the new Zelda brings Epona back. Riding Epona around Hyrule field beats riding on a Loftwing in the sky anyday.

Samus06 commented on Nintendo Defends Influx of New Mario Titles:

They better be giving Mario a break for a long time after 3D World, and when they come back with Mario again it better be a Mario 64 or Sunshine style of 3D Mario. I honestly don't want to see another NSMB game. At least not until the next generation of consoles.

The more I see of this game, the more excited I get. I have to say that I wasn't very interested in it when it was first announced, but I am now definitely buying this game. It looks awesome!

Samus06 commented on Nintendo - Inclusion of Peach in Super Mario 3...:

@ScorpionMG
I was just talking about playing a 3D mario game with a sideways Wii remote and how that would probably be pretty awkward. I love the Wii remote/Nunchuck combo for the Galaxy games and would be happy if they included that control option in 3D World as well. Sideways Wii remote controls are great for 2D platformers, but not for 3D games.

I'm just glad Nintendo is including pro controller support for their games. I think it would be pretty awkward to play a 3D Mario with a sideways Wii remote in multiplayer. I hope they keep supporting the pro controller. Its nice to have control options. Sometimes I just prefer to play with a traditional controller.

yea I don't understand that. I guess poorly written= criticism of a game and well written= praising every aspect of the game. hmmm. I don't see this article as bashing the game at all. Just that Retro isn't taking on a super ambitious title like we all thought they would and that has left some disappointment.

There is nothing wrong with this article. If he was praising the heck out of this game, I guarantee there wouldn't be a single person saying he just is a blind fanboy of DKC. What's wrong with being critical of a game? I'm sure this game will turn out great, but like the article is saying, you can't help but feel a bit disappointed that Retro wasn't working on something bigger and more ambitious.

After getting over my initial disappointment of no Metroid, Star Fox, or new IP from Retro, I can say I am actually very excited for this game now. I love DKCR and this game looks really good as well.

Samus06 commented on Video: Nintendo Releases Its E3 Wrap-Up:

Hopefully 3D World and DKC: TF are enough to drive Wii U sales this holiday season and then MK 8 and the other early 2014 games keep the sales going. Then with a bigger install base we might just start seeing F-Zero, Star Fox, Metroid, etc.

Nintendo let Platinum Games work on Star Fox or F-zero!

I'm disappointed that there won't be extra dungeons. Oh well, I'm still going to buy this. Wind Waker is one of my favorite Zelda games.

I hope that the new Wii U Zelda has gamepad controls. I am not a huge fan of the motion controls in Skyward Sword.

I am really impressed by this game. All the mechanics look great. Incorporating underwater parts and the hang gliders from MK 7 along with adding the awesome looking gravity defying hover mechanic makes this game look like the ultimate Mario Kart. It looks like it plays amazingly smooth and the visuals are incredible. This is what I expect of a Wii U game from Nintendo, top notch gameplay and visuals. Can't wait to play this!

Samus06 commented on First Impressions: Super Mario 3D World:

Some of us just want to see the company we love so much make a game that looks like it has some oomph to it, especially on a new HD system. Most of what I am reading in the comments is that, like me, people think this game will be fun, but it looks like it lacks heart. It just looks like an uninspired cash in to get Wii Us flying off the shelves. I don't blame Nintendo for that. I want to see the Wii U become successful, but I also want to see games that push the system to its full potential. Hopefully we will see a 3D Mario that shows what the Wii U is capable of in gameplay and visuals. 3D World looks like a ton of fun and I will most likely play the heck out of it, but it doesn't change the fact that it looks lackluster compared to previous 3D Mario games.

This view does not make someone any less of a Nintendo fan than someone who thinks this game looks like the best game they have ever seen. You can still be a huge fan while calling Nintendo out on games like this where it looks like they clearly aren't putting their best effort forward. This game does look like it has some cool elements to it though, I give it that.

To those who have played this game at best buy, were you able to control the camera at all times when playing single player? or was it simply a means to look around while standing still? the gameplay videos I have seen make it look like the camera is fixed in some areas of a level.

Samus06 commented on First Impressions: Super Mario 3D World:

After watching more gameplay videos of 3D World, it looks like there will be parts of the game where the camera is fixed and then other parts where the camera follows behind you like previous 3D Mario games. I could be wrong though.

Samus06 commented on First Impressions: Super Mario 3D World:

Yea the 3D in the title is a bit odd. 3D Mario games have been around since 1996. It's not like this is anything new here. I understand the 3D in 3D Land because it's on the 3DS. Nintendo does choose odd unimaginative titles sometimes. Yoshi's New Island anyone? I guess they just wanted to make sure people know this is a sequel to 3D Land.

Samus06 commented on First Impressions: Super Mario 3D World:

The visuals remind me of the NSMB series, generic and uninspired. This game will be fun, but it will definitely not be the HD 3D Mario I and many others have been waiting for. 3D Mario games have always delivered an amazing 3D action experience for core gamers. This looks like it is geared towards the casual market to increase sales of the Wii U. I'm sure it will be a blast to play, but I hope to God Nintendo will be making a true core 3D Mario game with innovative gameplay and gorgeous visuals. I don't want another Galaxy game to be honest. I just want another 3D Mario that wows me like Mario 64, Sunshine and the Galaxy games did.

Samus06 commented on Features: The Joys of Following Nintendo at E3:

After having a couple days now to think about everything Nintendo showed off, I still can't get over how disappointed I am with 3D World. I think MK8, SSB, Pikmin 3, Bayonetta 2, X, DKC: TF all look fantastic. I really wanted a new Metroid from Retro, but I'm sure it will come at some point.
What I was excited for the most was a new 3D Mario because of how innovative and epic those titles are along with having some of the best visuals seen on a Nintendo console. Then Nintendo shows off 3D World which looks like it does absolutely none of those things. It just looks like a very generic casual experience, something that should never happen with a 3D Mario. Having multiplayer is neat I guess, but I would much rather have a deep hardcore 3D Mario experience. I'm sure it will be a fun game, but nothing like the amazingness of Mario 64, Sunshine and the Galaxy games.

Is Nintendo really dead set now on never giving us exploration in 3D mario games again? I understand wanting to appeal to casual gamers, but isn't that what the NSMB series is for? I guess I just really miss the Mario 64 and Sunshine design.

Samus06 commented on Miyamoto: I Can Recommend Pikmin 3 To Anyone:

This is probably the game I'm looking forward to the most on Wii U now after the less than stellar ND this morning. If it is anywhere near as good as Pikmin 2, I know I'll love it. I really like how they are giving you three different control options. Hopefully that is something Nintendo keeps on doing with their games. I know there will be times when I just want to play a game with the pro controller, so it would be nice to have that option.

This game was probably the most underwhelming part of the Nintendo Direct for me. I was so pumped up for this game and I became pretty disappointed after I saw it. I'm sure it will be super fun and I definitely plan on buying this game, but I was hoping for something bigger and better. To me this looks like NSMB 3D. Hopefully we'll see another 3D Mario down the road that's more in line with Mario 64 and actually looks like it pushes the Wii U hardware.
The cat suit does look pretty sweet though, and I'll finally be able to play a 3D mario with my girlfriend, so I have that to look forward to at least.

I have no doubt that the new DKC game will be great, but I can't help but feel disappointed by this. I was hoping to be blown away by a new Metroid Prime or some great new IP from Retro. This new DKC game should have either been handled by another team or Retro should have worked on this after releasing a big time game like Prime.
