Majora's Mask. So tedious and annoying.

And a few more I can't remember off the top of my head.

I've beat every single one of those games and enjoyed them (some of them i first beat 20 years ago!) with exception to the FF games. I enjoyed the 4th one for the SNES, but i think the fact my first RPG was the 7th saga, which i later found out was so hard it was nearly broken, i kind of get burnt out on these games. Zelda 2 is hard and it takes a while to get good but once you do you'll find the hardest part is the beginning. The Sonic games are fun but they piss me off too, can't see far enough ahead. I loved DKCR it was hard and that's awesome, also i'm apparently a rare guy in that i loved the subspace emissary.

As for games i've given up on beating... R-Type and other shooters like it that have limited lives, i can get far in a lot of them but in a game like R-Type losing your powerup's late in the game can make it unbeatable. With R-Type in particular it's fun just to see how far i can get, i think if i really really tried i could beat it but i just can't abuse myself that much.

I had that problem too, i like it but it's one of my least favorite Zelda's. Hopefully they do a remake and streamline it a bit like in Wind Waker. In saying that though once you really get the fact the Bombers notebook is pretty much a guide to beating the game it get's a lot better in that regard, i just kinda wish they made that more clear. The masks in that game though blew my mind into tiny little pieces, so cool and unique for the time.

I had purchased Majora's Mask on my Wii a long time ago, but I had never gotten to finishing it until last year. And it has become my favourite Zelda surprisingly.
Due to the difficulty of Zelda II(and being sent back to the start after each game over...) I had quit numerous times before, but I started to progress more once I got the hammer. And after farming for some lives I went towards death mountain, but failed on my way up so I haven't tried again yet. I have beaten it on my 3DS with save points though.

Edit: not death mountain, the path up to the great temple* I was hoping I could at least make it to there before running out of lives...

Oooh. It appears we have a Zelda II club going on here.

I recently decided that I was gonna play through that by grinding a ton at the very beginning and breezing through everything else.
I got to Level 9 or so, entered the first dungeon, and still got creamed.

Zelda…
Wait for it, wait for it…
One! So much frustration, so little fun. And the kicker is that you can only move in four directions and the game is action-based. It should be or.

Zelda II I wouldn't mind beating, though I'm stuck at a ghost town with a bunch of invisible flying enemies and I don't know what to do.

Oh, and Final Fantasy IV. The moment I got to that Dark Elf's lair or whatever where I was supposed to unequip all the metal armor I bought, I decided my endeavors should come to their end. Oh, and The Legend of the Mystical Ninja. Great platforming, I love the co-op, but the town segments are so dang frustrating and repetitive and I have to repeat them every time I get game over. That friggin' part where you have to amass a pile of money. Oh, and the arcade Shinobi. No continues on the last stage, and I can hardly get through most sublevels without using a bunch of those.

This is factually inaccurate. Maybe it takes a while to get used to its crappy movement and sword reach, but that can be easily done by grinding on the world map for a while. Once you get past the second dungeon, though, the game becomes cheap as hell, with neigh-unnavigable mazes, poorly-placed enemies, well-hidden objectives with remarkably few hints, ****ing Shadow Link, and a hellish final dungeon. I think its safe to say the game gets a lot harder after the beginning.

I definitely agree. The game definitely gets harder immediately after the second temple. Although the third temple is a breeze after going through those caves...

That bit in Final Fantasy IV doesn't last any time at all. The SNES Final Fantasy II (Or the Easytype one I suppose but that has Japanese text) gives you a coral sword to use in it as well.

Most games grow more difficult the further you progress.

As for the rest of your post, yes and no. If you've beaten Zelda II, you would know the dungeon layouts are simple to memorize and the enemy placement is fair. The enemies are placed where they are for a reason. If anything, I'd assume you'd point out the lack of a map, overworld encounters, or the lack of a reason to play it a second time.

Just for you.

Simple to memorize my @$$. I've made 5 attempts to beat the game, and I still need guides to get through even the early dungeons. And this coming from someone who memorized Dragon Warrior's overworld, The Original Zelda's overworld and dungeons, and about half of the original Metroid (though I always get confused on my way to Kraid). I've watched streams and videos as well, I've seen plenty of this game, it's still a confusing mess.

I'm not sure what's so hard about memorizing dead ends. Especially considering you memorized the original's OW.

I think it has something to do with you on a personal level. Guides and walkthroughs don't help and you're blaming it on the game?

That part isn't that bad. Though you need to make sure to find a key item in Toroia first.
But after that you can probably just equip robes and arrow/hammer or no equipment and just run from everything.
You're supposed to lose against DarkElf, but you won't get a Game Over if you have the key item.

re:Final Fantasy IV—Oh, good. It just sounded like a total deal-breaker at the time. Up to that point, though, I was just running from every battle and casting Fire3 on every other battle anyway, so I didn't put much stock in the game to begin with. It didn't help that I was unknowingly playing the hard mode version.

Bravely Default for me. I absolutely adored this game until I got to the part where you

have to kill every crystal boss a second time.

When I got to that part, I was kind of in shock that they resorted to such a crappy game-lengthening tactic. I felt like angrily typing out a caps-only email to SE while watching my copy of BD melt in the microwave.

EDIT: Spoiler tags confuse me.

Couldn't have been too much if you've lost it over something this small.
