I keep hearing rants that Nintendo should just use a controller for their systems only and let the software do the innovation. Yet their systems sell incredibly well.
So here's the solution to those who just want not gimmicks. Don't buy their damn products. By doing that, they will realize that no one wants hardware innovation and just use controllers alone. Why are you just buying the console and expect it to play it in the way you want it to play and then when you have great games in the system, you like rant and say like, the controller support should've been there. I swear that if anyone rants about Smash's lack of controller support, I'll never understand a gamer's wish at all.
First off, Nintendo is among the very few to give these "gimmicky" controls a good feel.
Secondly, Nintendo at least does something to allow developers to be more creative, instead of having a glorified cable box.
And lastly, you're really making some assumptions here: almost everyone who buys a Nintendo console knows what they can expect, including the general control setup, and the few who don't aren't worth wasting thoughts about.
How's life been under the rock for the past decade?
I'm dying XD 9.3 million from November 18th,2012 to now march 30th,2015 "is incredibly well"??
Woah now! Let's not distort facts. Nintendo's financials say 9.2 million as of Q4 2014. Since then, it has sold about 230k in North America according to NPD results and 110k in Japan according to Media Create. If we assume the same ratio between Japan and Europe in this quarter and last, that's another 120k in Europe.
That makes 9.66 million Wii Us shipped. Huge difference.
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

I wouldn't call it a huge difference, and I still wouldn't call it incredibly well.
Then why do you guys rant stuff like these gimmicks should be stopped and all. I mean if Star Fox U ends up being great with its gimmicks, why would you want controller support for that game?

I don't know, but it's probably because some people like myself suffer from Carpal Tunnel and the behemoth of a Gamepad hurts our hands...
My Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is an extremely mild case and yet the controller still hurts my wrists and fingers fairly quickly. I only use the Gamepad if I absolutely have to.

Because people hate progress.
Not all new things are progress though, i daresay the tablet-controller-thing has proven that pretty well...
Now you see, evil will always triumph, because good is dumb! >:D
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

The Xbox and PS controllers aren't progress, they're stagnation. They're practically the same controller through all their generations. The wii remote and the gamepad are both progressive

I don't know. I think the "truth," whatever that can be called, lies somewhere in the middle. The tablet wasn't a "failure" - it was really awesome for ZombiU and party game stuff. I also wouldn't call the PS4/Xbox One controllers "stagnation" - more like the tried and true. It would be like calling the keyboard and mouse "stagnation," but nobody does because those devices do exactly what they are meant to, and with precision, much like the PS4/Xbox One controllers.

And guess what? They work and people like them, so why change them just "because"?
Do you drive a car? Does the steering wheel bother you? It's been rather stagnant for the past 100 years or so, no?
Also, Nintendo isn't innovative. Using hardware from 2005 doesn't seem innovative to me. Then you have the Wii, which is just a rerelease of the GameCube.
