Back in the day, the Coleco tabletop games were awesome products. I remember being so jealous of that one rich kid in the neighborhood (i think everyone knows one of those — the kid whose parents got him everything) who had a bunch of them. Donkey Kong definitely wasn't the best, but Pac-Man was awesome.

@RikuzeYre

Congratulations on cutting-and-pasting the exact same response into two different news articles.

Also, congratulations on being completely out of touch with the real financial realities that led to Ubisoft's decision.

Have fun continuing to believe these things, along with the many others here who prefer to be ridiculously upset instead and angry at Ubi insead of actually taking 12 seconds to understand business realities.

@Zombie_Barioth
Actually, i believe the game is supposed to be a prequel to the tv series, following the Dixon Brothers before they meet up with the group in Atlanta.

Though with the development in the mid-season premiere, i can't help but think that there was some coordination going on, story-wise, perhaps in an effort to sell the game. :)

People who are going to boycott this game (presuming they actually wanted the game in the first place), and/or boycott Ubi in general are seriously ridiculous. It's not even funny how stupid of a reaction that is.
I'm totally with you on this one, Waltz.

I can't help but wonder if this is a translation snafu — perhaps what he said was intended as referring to potential development for other platforms (e.g., smart phones, tablets), rather than actually developing different platforms/hardware.

Knowing that i tend to share Phil's gaming tastes and sensibilities (or however you want to describe it), i'll probably end up passing on this one.

That said, i'll check out the demo (XBLA), but the negatives addressed in the review are the kinds of things that, for me, will likely sap any enjoyment out of the game, and just encourage me to go back and play my beloved King's Quest games again. :)

Suggestion to everyone here who are younglings: Read up on who Nader is and the stances he has taken on issues in the past, and you will realize that this sort of statement coming from him completely fails to shock us old people in any way, shape or form. :)

@Retro
As the article mentions, the "indie" label is always debated with respect to what it means, but considering WF operates "independently" (i.e., it's not owned or run by EA, Activision, Ninty, MS, Sony, etc etc etc), i think the label certainly applies.

Translation as to why it's going to be on PC only:
"Well, it would actually cost us a little bit of money to put it on consoles, and the fact that all we did is snatch up and release a fan-made game should tell the fans all they need to know about how much we're willing to invest in MM at this point. Almost nothing."

The only thing i'm really curious about this is why it's only like this in the EU. Usually it's my fellow foolish Americans that encourage a company to do something like this ... there must be some reason why this policy is limited to the EU.

@Malic
You're simply not correct about that. If Atari hadn't established that a home video game market even existed in the U.S., there's a good chance we never would have seen the NES come to the U.S.. Nintendo undoubtedly has done a tremendous amount for gaming, but you really need to review your video gaming history if you think Atari's contribution is "not even close". :)

the_shpydar commented on The Godfather of Video Games Is Baffled By The...:

I am dumbfounded (but ironically not surprised) by some of the comments here. Bushnell was a pioneer of the home video game industry. To cast him off as if he is someone who has no idea what he's talking about (or worse, to even suggest that Atari did nothing for gaming?) is just pure ignorance. You kids need to educate yourselves.

Being who he is, of course mainstream publications writing up the WiiU (most of which from what i have seen are taking it from the approach of "are gaming consoles becoming obsolete?" discussion) are going to seek him out for comment. And this is the same thing he's been saying for years — he believes console gaming in general is on the way out. I disagree with him, but that doesn't invalidate his viewpoint.

I heart you for mentioning Gumshoe. I pumped hours and hours into that game, finiding the branching paths in each level, and beating it over and over again. I very unique, and sadly overlooked, game. :)

Also, big ups to Gyromite — another game that i dumped hours upon hours into, with the classic method of using my feet on the pressure plates to control the R.O.B. parts. :D

the_shpydar commented on Resident Evil Revelations Jumping Ship To PS3?:

I wouldn't be surprised, but forgive me if i hold a giant grain of salt until this rumor comes from somewhere other than a Korean ratings board listing. :P

As others said, I would also love if it did come to PS3, sell exceedingly well, and maybe convince Capcom to stick to the roots of the series instead of the perpllexing direction they've decided to take the series in the recent console entries. Revelations was an awesome entry.

the_shpydar commented on Donkey Kong Country Trilogy To Be Pulled From ...:

I think it's most likely as was said above a royalties issue. Or perhaps there was a limited term to whatever royalties contract or agreement that existed, and one or other (or both) of the sides decided not to re-up the contract, or one or other (or both) of the sides wanted to change the terms.

Or maybe they are going to feature the games on the WiiU eShop, but the agreement that they had with Rare only allows digital distribution through one forum (similar to the way a tv show may have the rights to air music while on broadcast tv, but not on the dvd or in reruns).
Lawyered.

Or it could be something completely different. I tend not to think it would have anything to do with an HD collection or anything, but i suppose it is possible.

Good review, Jon.
And interesting too — a perfect example of why people need to not just look at the score, but read the review. The review itself reads like it would recieve a much lower score. Quite frankly, this is exactly what i wanted to read in a review — you hit on all the questions i had personally about the game, and while i'm sure it is a great, fun game, your review confimed all my concerns over the game and reinforced my decision not to pick it up.

the_shpydar commented on Mega Man: The Wily Wars Battles Onto Genesis P...:

I have one of the portable Genesis systems, and the emulation can be spotty at times, but perfectly playable. The one i have is awesome as it, although it only has 20 built-in games, it actually has a cartridge slot for playing Genesis (and MegaDrive) games.

Also, so people know — the "80 Games Included!" thing does NOT mean 80 Genesis/MegaDrive games. There are 40 Gen/MD games, and then another 40 games that are on-par with lame website-based flash games.

Already planning on d/L'ing Layton (anyone know the block size?) on Sunday, and debating both GnG and Castlevania (just on princple, as i had it on GB back in the day, and wouldn't mind having it again despite the suckage).

As for the Mutant Mudds DLC (which i'll also be getting), are the additional levels accessible from existing save-game slots, or do you have to start a fresh one?
