Topic: Are you loyal to Nintendo? Or what made you go multi-platform?

My first console was a NES. I stuck with only Nintendo until I got my N64. But then I had to get a PlayStation because certain games were never going to come to N64 such as Final Fantasy VII and Street Fighter EX + Alpha (my first two PS1 games). I had to get a Saturn because it recieved better ports of Capcom's 2D fighters than the PS1 did. Although I never neglected my N64, it was then that there was no being loyal to only Nintendo anymore, that doing so would make me miss out on several great games that still haven't appeared on a Nintendo platform.

I may have brought other consoles for only one or two games at first but that expanded into decent sized collections for each one.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

I just buy the systems with the games I like which means I tend to own all of Nintendo's systems... but I've also owned the competitors too. Don't have a PS3 or PSP this gen though, not enough on them to make me buy them, I can hardly afford all the Wii, DS and 360 games I want.

When I was young, like 3 or 4, we already had a Sega Genesis and a N64. So I started my gaming career out multi-platform. The only reason I play anything other than my Nintendo games like the Xbox 360 now a days is for Sonic games.

I was Sega only until I saw Zelda 64.

Nintendo is typically the first console I buy each generation and then I pick up whatever else was the biggest when I have the money, which tends to be near the end of the life cycle (didn't get a PSX or PS2 until their successors were out). This is the first gen where I've had more than one "active" console, soon to be the first where I have all of them. Egads!

The only exception so far was the 16-bit era when we had a Genesis instead of SNES. The power of Sonic, donchaknow.

I have owned a Nes,N64,Wii,Sega Genesis, PS1 and a PS2 one time or another, I have always had a soft spot in my heart for Nintendo but that doesn't stop me from branching out.

Absolutely not. The only Nintendo console I owned previously was the Gameboy. It's fair to say I've never been "loyal" to any console, but I've tended to own one at a time simply because I don't have time/money to split between them. I had an Atari 2600 that got boxed up/given away when I moved on to the Atari 800XL (the latter wasn't bought to be a gaming machine, but to write papers on for school - gaming was a side bonus). From there I bought an Atari Jaguar which I then sold when I decided to jump ship to the Sony Playstation.

It's very much been driven by software rather than favouring any one brand, though I will admit I have a certain nostalgia for Atari. Barring a rethink by the current brand owners it looks like emulation will need to satisfy my Atari cravings for the future.

I have been multi-console my whole life. I get a new console when they stop making games available for the console I have. I got a Nintendo 64 when they stopped making Sega Genesis games, I got a PSOne when they stopped making Nintendo 64 games, and I got a Gamecube when they stopped making PSOne games. It was only on the Gamecube that I started to feel any sort of loyalty to Nintendo, because I began to notice that they were making all the best games on the platform, but once my brother got a PS2 and I played some games on it, all that loyalty was lost in an instant. Once the Wii and PS3 came out and it seemed like the PS3 was going to be an overpriced piece of hardware with little innovation and a shortage of good games, I again felt loyalty towards Nintendo for ultimately choosing what seemed to be the clear winner and the next PS2. After a couple years, though it became obvious that I was gravely mistaken. Good games were few and far between and Nintendo was marketing the thing for everyone but me. I was pretty much being sustained on VC releases, and I had hoped Wiiware might provide some good games, but it rarely did. In the we got an Xbox 360 and that solved all our problems.

Nope. My first console was the Genesis, my first Nintendo console was the Gameboy, and I own a PS2 and a Xbox 360.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

Not really a Nintendo loyalist. I learned my lesson when PS came out: even though I despised the painful loading screens and found the Sony controller to be rather uncomfortable (two things that haven't changed, actually) seeing how limited and expensive the N64 library was convinced me that software is what wins console battles.

However, I've also come to respect Nintendo for consistently releasing games that are enjoyable and appropriate for all ages. It's usually safe to buy a Nintendo console for the excellent first-party support alone... although I don't think their GameCube output was a little bit weaker than other consoles.

As for going multi-platform, the only thing holding me back is limited resources. Without enough time/money to enjoy all the Wii has to offer, buying another console this generation seems like madness.

When I was really young, I had the NES bundle of Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt, but we sold that, and got an N64. I got a gamecube, while my brother got a PS2. I played both, but waned off the PS2 when it didn't have my favorite games. Now, I have a wii, DSi, N64, GBA, and Gameboy games, and even a PSP, but not many games for it.

I can't say that I'm loyal to Nintendo since I do own both the PS3 and the XBOX this gen, but I do own all the previous Nintendo consoles. I guess that says something...

Mainly both Nintendo and Microsoft. I started with the N64, then got an XBox for Christmas. After awhile, I started looking for cheap 360's, but then my friend showed me Brawl. I bought the Wii soon afterwards, and that was followed up by a DS lite a year and a half later. Eventually, I was able to buy the 360. Also, somewhere in that time I had a Gamecube which broke down two months later.
Overall: N64, XBox, Gamecube, Wii, DS lite, 360, in that order.

I like Nintendo the most, and I get all Nintendo systems first. I have an Xbox 360 and PS3 and PSP though, because there are games I wanted for those.

To basically echo what Sean said: I'm more driven by the software (read: games) than I am by any silly loyalty to a brand of console. I go where the entertainment is.

I'm "loyal" to Nintendo in that all my consoles post-Mega Drive are Nintendo ones (GBC, GBA SP, Gamecube, Wii, DSi). But that's simply a matter that the Nintendo consoles are more affordable and I rarely have expendable cash being a student 'n all, so I buy one console per generation if I'm lucky, and normally way after it launched and the price has come down a bit xP

Same here, minus that last part. I bought the N64, GC and Wii at launch, the PSOne in 2005 or so, and a PS2 in 2008. I'm toying with the idea of picking up a 360 too, though.
