People seem to either love or hate Touch 'n Go, I myself haven't played it, yet it is was one of the DS games on my 'to get list' But the $40-ish price tag isn't helping my decision either!
Don't. It's pretty fun while it lasts but it's essentially a tech demo sold as a full game. If it WAS a full game it could have been amazing...

If you really want to try it, rent it through GameFly. That's what I did, and while I was initially charmed by it the game grew old after awhile.
As for the main topic, New Super Mario Bros. was my first DS game. While it may not be the hardest 2D Mario, the game was a lot of fun. I LOVED stomping through levels with Mario as a giant. It makes the game easier, sure, but it also makes it fun at the same time. The little touch-screen games provided a nice break from the main game, and sometimes I would turn on my DS just to play those.
Moco Loco If you find yourself spiritually drifting (as I was for far too many years), remember that Jesus can and will walk across the water to reach you and bring you back to shore.
Unfortunately mine was Metroid Prime Hunters which I absolutely despised and later gave away. There have been plent of other good DS games though that have blown my mind.
I got my DS for my birthday in 2006 along with the game Super Mario 64 DS. I asked specifically for that game because the original is one of my favorite games of all time and because a friend of mine had that game, and it looked awesome.
