@theadrock13 Rumour has it as a holiday 2014 release, which works out to a 2.5 year development time, which is right in line with development times for modern AAA games, which comes back to you can't crap out a AAA title in a weekend.
They COULD have released a new Zelda game for Christmas. And it would have been half finished and crap. That would surly do good things for the Wii U.
It's not the 1980's any more. Games take time to make.
Nintendo sent pamphlets to Brazil telling shop owners there that anyone who breaks the release date won't get copies of games until the day of release from now on. They should follow through on that. And pursue fines where contracts have been made. People can say they're making a big deal out of nothing all they want and try to say Nintendo is the bad guy for going after them, but these companies had contracts set up and deserve whatever they brought down upon themselves by breaking them.
@SanderEvers Yeah, one or two days isn't so bad. But some stores broke the release date weeks ago. I should also point out that "who can blame me?" isn't going to hold up in court when you get sued for breach of contract.
@Falco Yeah, I just checked the specs on the two TV's you gave model numbers for and they both allow it. And every Phillips model allows it. Stop talking out YOUR "arsh" and learn how to operate your TV. Then all these problems caused by your own stupidity will disappear. But since you've resorted to insults and insinuating I'm poor, I know you don't have an argument and are just trolling.
And for the record, I have 3 HDTVs in my house right now that all allow that. It's in the aspect ratio settings. Learn to use them.
@Falco That's funny, because EVERY hdtv I have ever owned or looked into owning CAN be put into 4:3 when running in 1080p. Please tell me the mythical model of tv you are using that doesn't let you.
@Jellitoe "I know its not the popular thing to say, but if you get no, on inadequate 3rd Party Support on the Wii U, it is Nintendo fault for not getting any system sellers out within the launch of the console."
You might have an argument if Sony AND Microsoft hadn't been able to build their consoles' user bases nearly entirely on the backs of third party games for the last 3 generations and Nintendo wasn't the only company expected to build a user base without any help before third parties will touch the system.
You might also have a point if Nintendo hadn't released the best selling console of all time, with the highest attach rate of its generation, and STILL not gotten much third party support for it.
You may also have a point if Nintendo didn't have the best selling dedicated gaming device right now that was still getting lackluster 3rd party support compared to a handheld that is selling on par or worse than the Wii U.
But as those things are all things that have happened, I'm calling BS on your entire argument.
@KingofSaiyans Then show some self control and don't? I don't see why not buying something is so hard. No one's forcing you.
@Falco "And don't talk to me about transferring games over from Wii because I don't like playing stretched games.".
Well you could always have just adjusted your tv's aspect ratio settings to 4:3 and not had to play them stretched, but they fixed that problem in the latest Wii U update anyway. And god forbid you pay a dollar to get new added features even though you can just skip the added features and not pay for the upgrade if you want. rolls eyes
@CaviarMeths "arguably, $8 is a bit of steep price point for an SNES game."
No it really isn't. That's less than my local pre-owned game shops and pawn shops sell ANY snes game for (aside from the sports titles that flood the used market so sell for, like, a dollar).
@WiiLovePeace
"Well, technically yes, since you own a license to play the games from the disc on your Wii system, not a license to play them digitally on a PC..."
Actually, no. Whatever any "licence agreement" says you have every legal right to make a backup copy of a game you own and use that copy as you see fit for your own personal use. But you have to rip it yourself, downloading a copy is illegal whether you own the original or not.
@eza "Again, I'm not a lawyer or legal expert, and I have no idea whether a legal precedent has ever been set or not, but I'm not sure whether even the act of clicking 'I agree' actually constitutes a legally-binding contract."
EULAs like that have only been found to be legally binding in a handful of states in the US. Most of the world doesn't recognize it as such. The way Nintendo and other gaming companies do it don't even conform with legal requirements to make it binding in those States, either. Nintendo includes the licence agreement with the System, and other companies point you to a website on the box, but the requirment is that the software itself include a copy of the licence agreement and a way to return it to the manufacturer if you don't agree to it.
They're charging 20 bucks more for the Wii U version than for other versions for no reason. No buy from me until I can get it the same price as on the 360 and ps3
@sinalefa Don't forget introducing brand new bugs in the patch that need fixing and never getting around to fixing some of the original bugs even after 50 gajillion patches. That's the Bathesda way!
"Another waste chance for Nintendo to shine the Wii U and this is the best they got? Delays and garbage Directs and now trying to be greedy in the software market by making this travesty thinking it going to make them more money like taking candy from the kids and its so easy for the parents that don't know beans about video games nor the handheld department that buy any game eternal sadness. What happened with the Wii U trying to get more better sales Nintendo, it seems like they don't give a crap anymore and trying to keep they software market afloat rather than the Wii U being successful."
@JogurtTheYogurt The old sonic games on the 360 ALSO have a proper AR of 4:3. (for simplicity's sake, anyway. Sega Genesis games aren't actually in a standard aspect ratio. Here's the offical pictures, look for yourself http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Sonic-The-Hedgehog-2/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258410863) If you're playing them stretched than you're ruining the picture. That's not a "Fanboy" statement, that's a statement of someone with eyes that work.
Actually updating a game to 16:9 AR means reprogramming it for that AR which means you are re-directing the game which in a very literal sense means it isn't the same game anymore. For more on letterboxing see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5m1-pP1-5K8
Also, you were never "upscaling it to full hd" you were stretching it to an AR it shouldn't be in and ruining the picture. If you can't see that, I suggest visiting your eye doctor.
@JogurtTheYogurt "The game is finished i cant understand why they are doing this ."
Yeah, no it isn't. Unless you work at Nintendo and know this for a fact it's not true.
"Also the Wii U update has butchered the Wii`s emulation NES games are like are almost microscopic. Why on earth have Nintendo altered the resolution on the Wii Virtual console games ?"
Yes darn them for making games play in their original aspect ratio like they're supposed to.
I take it you're one of those people who watches TV stretched and doesn't see the problem.
@Chris720 My understanding is that they outsourced programming for online to a developer who has no experience in coding for the Wii U so they just didn't bother doing it.
@Bliquid "Then came the void of games, the price drop, the continuous delays of the games i wanted, the ever lasting lack of an independent account,the region lock, the uncertainty to be able to play interesting games coming from Japan, the archaic OS, the pathetic battery and other minor issues."
Way to list the same problem multiple times to pad out your list. Effective argument that.
"So many series left in a dark they don't deserve; gimme Metroid, Starfox,F-Zero,Earthbound. Stop thrusting Mario down my throat."
A series that had a new game 3 years a go, a series that has sold like balls since the N64 and a series that's come to a natural conclusion. What a totally legit list of series to complain about not getting a continuation to. Only in the world of Nintendo does not getting a release in a couple years make people think a series is dead. -shrug-
"For now, all i see is too many average Mario games, sequels to games i don't give a damn about, remakes, ports and 1 game that COULD be interesting (X)."
Yes the two Mario games for the Wii U are totally overdoing it, and you can totally tell that an unreleased game is "average." As for sequels, you don't care about new Pikmin, Zelda, Bayonetta, Sonic Racing, Assisn's Creed, the Lego Games series, Rayman, Donkey Kong Country, Sonic, COD, Splinter Cell, Mario Kart, Monster Hunter, Oddworld, Pokemon Rumble OR Tekken Tag tournament? Have you ever actually played a video game in your life?
As for no interesting games that aren't sequels or ports, A Hat in Time, Child of Light, CLoudberry Kingdom, Disney Infinity, Injustice, Project Cars, The Wonderful 101, How To survive, and Zombi U (Unless you cound Zombi U as a Sequel to Zombi, but I don't think it's meant to be).
I'm just scratching the surface here. The tired argument that there's nothing to play on the Wii U and nothing exciting coming is, if I may be polite, CRAP.
@unrandomsam @ueI Also Shigeru Miyamoto was one of the general producers on the games with Hiroshi Yamauchi himself was the game's executive producer. And Nintendo had final say as to what did and didn't make it into those games.
So true. Nintendo totally didn't publish the Last Story or Pandora's tower or a Zelda game or two of the highest rated Mario games of all time since Wii Fit came out. And that's just the start of things they totally didn't publish. They totally only make exercise games now. What a completely logical, and might I add completely not idiotic, comment you made.
@Peach64 "I've just had a quick google and it looks like its only a best buy exclusive in Canada which is the exact same situation for 360 and PS3."
No it isn't the same situation for the others. I live in Canada. You can get the 360 and PS3 versions in Walmart here and could preorder them. You can't with the Wii U version. Best buy also actually had copies of the 360 and PS3 versions. Getting mine was a nightmare.
" No. I'm not blaming Wii U owners for their taste in games."
"what are Wii U owners buying? ... Splinter Cell did under 5k and nobody can blame it being a late port this time."
Yeah, you sort of were. You said a 10% attach rate was nothing. And you're still going by the logic of "10% of Wii U owners buying something means they don't support third parties, but 10% of Xbox owners buying something means they do. herp derp"
"but people can't get mad at publishers for dropping Wii U support when every Wii U game they release loses them money."
Yes, you can. The reason you put games on unproven platforms like the Wii U isn't to make money on the initial sale. It's to get the console to a point where there are enough users to make money from it. Only everyone expects Nintendo to do that on their own and so give us crap versions of ports while letting Sony and MS s build their consoles on the backs of third parties without having to do anything to get their support. If third parties actually released games on the system that were just as worth buying as on other consoles, and didn't keep stripping Wii U exclusive of exclusivity, more people would buy the thing and then they'd have a chance to make money on it.
@Peach64 300k overall is the same percentage of people who bought it for Wii U. So, by your logic, when "only" 10% of Wii U owners buy something, that's proof that Nintendo owners won't support third party games, but when "a whopping" 10% of XBOX 360 owners buy something, that proves that they do. Flawless logic. /sarcasm
It's an attach rate. The same percentage of people bought it for both systems. And that's a number you said was no one in the first place.
If they want the Wii U attach rate to be higher than other versions, they have to make it attractive for Wii U owners to buy it, which means not releasing it with fewer features than the other versions and not throwing roadblocks in the way of people who want to buy it like they did with this.
But they still have to be realistic. The best selling game on the best selling system right now has an attach rate of 25%. Using your own numbers, even if the had an attach rate like that, they would have made 750,000. If they budgeted more than that on the game then they are just stupid.
But if you feel like defending Ubisoft some more, please tell me how not allowing the Wii U version to be preordered, making it a Best Buy exclusive, not shipping to most Best Buy stores, not having any TV ads that state it's a Best Buy exclusive, having TV ads that don't even show it's on the Wii U, having some locations sell it for a higher price than the other versions, and limiting the online stock of the game were meant to help the Wii U version sell better. That's something I'd like to see.
@Peach64 No one bought Splinter Cell for ANY console. The Wii U version actually enjoys an attach rate on par with the XBX 360 version. And keep in mind, that's with roadblocks being thrown in the way to make it harder to buy it on the Wii U in the first place.
Things like the Wii U version being Best Buy exclusive while no other version was (and even though it was Best Buy exclusive, few Best Buys carried it. I had to purchase it online after looking in 3 Best Buys and them not having it), and the game not being offered for pre order in Canada, and having TV ads that said it was only on ps3 and 360 surly hurt the Wii U version's sales. When you take all that into account it did amazingly, since Ubisoft was seemingly intent on setting it up to fail.
@RickyNGmr The patch doesn't do a thing to fix online connection issues and freezes, which are the number 1 complaint when it comes to glitches in the Wii U version. (These glitches are Wii U exclusive )
"Look, you can argue each and every game I mention, but you're not changing my opinion."
Way to go. Now everyone knows not to bother replying to you, since you won't change your opinion even if everything you were basing it on is shown to be objectively wrong. Nice one.
@Peach64 30% isn't a number now? He said directly that 30% f animal crossings sales were digital.
@WiiUExposed good job looking at the year it was released as if it means something and discounting that both examples were the respective comany's first try at mass digital marketing.
@people complaining about no unified account system: Yes, that would solve everything and give you total piece of mind, since the Xbox 360 and PS3 will totally let you transfer your digital purchases to the xbox one and PS4 because they have account systems, right? ... Right?
I'd like to have a unified account system for the wii u and 3ds as well, but it's not something that's a deal breaker for me, especially considering what the other companies are doing to the people who upgrade their consoles.
"Dude, I'm not trying to trick you or anything. I simply type a quick response and then go in and expand on it. I do it with virtually every single post I make."
Yeah. Don't do that. If the thing you wanted to say wasn't important enough to say in the first place, make a new post to say it. And in the event that you do edit an old post, it should be made clear to any new reader where the edits are. Failing to do so is incredibly intellectually dishonest, no matter what your actual intent may have been.

@SanderEvers Yeah, one or two days isn't so bad. But some stores broke the release date weeks ago. I should also point out that "who can blame me?" isn't going to hold up in court when you get sued for breach of contract.
Re: Zelda: Wind Waker HD Release Triggers 685% Increase In UK Wii U Hardware Sales
@theadrock13 Because a good game isn't something you can crap out in a weekend. That's why.
Re: Nintendo Considering Cross-Buy eShop Purchases, But Doesn't Have Anything To Announce Yet
@Falco
Yeah, I just checked the specs on the two TV's you gave model numbers for and they both allow it.
Re: Nintendo Considering Cross-Buy eShop Purchases, But Doesn't Have Anything To Announce Yet
@Falco That's funny, because EVERY hdtv I have ever owned or looked into owning CAN be put into 4:3 when running in 1080p. Please tell me the mythical model of tv you are using that doesn't let you.
Re: Assassin's Creed IV DLC Looks Set to Sail Past Wii U
@Jellitoe
"I know its not the popular thing to say, but if you get no, on inadequate 3rd Party Support on the Wii U, it is Nintendo fault for not getting any system sellers out within the launch of the console."
Re: Nintendo Considering Cross-Buy eShop Purchases, But Doesn't Have Anything To Announce Yet
And god forbid you pay a dollar to get new added features even though you can just skip the added features and not pay for the upgrade if you want. rolls eyes
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut Finally Dated for Wii U
@ChosenOne25 "Nobody should be complaining here, you are getting a 3rd party AAA game on a Nintendo console that smartly uses the gamepad's features."
And costs 40% more than the EXACT SAME GAME on other consoles. Yeah, I'm gonna complain about that. Thanks.
@Samurai_Goroh
That's great for you guys in the UK, but not true here in NA.
It's $50 compared to $30 on other platforms.

Re: Microsoft Wants You To Know That Its Surface Tablet Can Play SNES Games
@CaviarMeths "arguably, $8 is a bit of steep price point for an SNES game."
No it really isn't. That's less than my local pre-owned game shops and pawn shops sell ANY snes game for (aside from the sports titles that flood the used market so sell for, like, a dollar).
@WiiLovePeace
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut Finally Dated for Wii U
They're charging 20 bucks more for the Wii U version than for other versions for no reason. No buy from me until I can get it the same price as on the 360 and ps3
Re: Nintendo Confirms Lineup and Big Plans for New York Comic Con
@sinalefa Don't forget introducing brand new bugs in the patch that need fixing and never getting around to fixing some of the original bugs even after 50 gajillion patches. That's the Bathesda way!
Re: Feature: Five Reasons Why The 2DS Will Be The Biggest Selling Handheld This Christmas
@TrueGamer1985

Re: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Delayed Until Early 2014
Re: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Delayed Until Early 2014
@JogurtTheYogurt "The game is finished i cant understand why they are doing this ."
Yeah, no it isn't. Unless you work at Nintendo and know this for a fact it's not true.
"Also the Wii U update has butchered the Wii`s emulation NES games are like are almost microscopic. Why on earth have Nintendo altered the resolution on the Wii Virtual console games ?"
Yes darn them for making games play in their original aspect ratio like they're supposed to.
I take it you're one of those people who watches TV stretched and doesn't see the problem.
Re: China Removes Game Console Ban
@StarDust China is a sovereign nation that does not recognize copy right law, and has the right not to if it so choses. You don't like it? Tough.
Re: China Removes Game Console Ban
Good news for Nintendo. They already have brand recognition there.
Re: Batman: Arkham Origins Will Be Cheaper on Wii U
@Chris720 My understanding is that they outsourced programming for online to a developer who has no experience in coding for the Wii U so they just didn't bother doing it.
Re: Wii U Family Hardware Bundles Revealed in Japan
@Bengals76
ITP: A handful of studios all of which are owned by EA or haven't made anything for a Nintendo console since the NES are "everyone."
I own one too. And a bunch of games for it. And more than half of those games are third party. Yep "no one" is supporting it.
Re: Reaction: Nintendo Reminds Us of the Wii's Glory Days With Wii Fit U and Wii Sports Club
@ThomasBW84 Neither is correcting an obviosu spelling mistake for the sole purpose of being antagonistic, but that didn't stop you.
Re: Shin'en: If Developers Can't Make Great Looking Games On Wii U, It's Their Own Fault
Re: Reaction: Nintendo Reminds Us of the Wii's Glory Days With Wii Fit U and Wii Sports Club
"What Wii Sports Club shows, in addition, is that a good old naming convention of Wii HD or Wii 2 may have been better suited to the market."
Yes, people thinking the Wii U is just a Wii in HD would totally have been avoided if they had called it the Wii HD. -facealm-
Re: Surprise! Aonuma Doesn't Consider The CD-i Zelda Games To Be Canon, Either
@unrandomsam @ueI Also Shigeru Miyamoto was one of the general producers on the games with Hiroshi Yamauchi himself was the game's executive producer. And Nintendo had final say as to what did and didn't make it into those games.
A game like this is still considered first party.
Re: You'll Be Able To Use Wii Fit U For One Month Free Of Charge
@GamerJunkie
Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (Wii U)
@GamerJunkie Wow. Everything you said was objectively wrong. Way to go.
Re: You'll Be Able To Use Wii Fit U For One Month Free Of Charge
@Peach64 didn't show up to try to say how this shows Nintendo is doomed? Now I'm just sad.

@sinalefa Pretty much.
Re: 3DS Reigns in the U.S. for Another Month as Pikmin 3 Sneaks Into the Top 10
@Peach64
"I've just had a quick google and it looks like its only a best buy exclusive in Canada which is the exact same situation for 360 and PS3."
Re: 3DS Reigns in the U.S. for Another Month as Pikmin 3 Sneaks Into the Top 10
Re: 3DS Reigns in the U.S. for Another Month as Pikmin 3 Sneaks Into the Top 10
Re: The Wonderful 101 Could Have Been Released on Wii
@DerpSandwich
"Look, you can argue each and every game I mention, but you're not changing my opinion."
Way to go. Now everyone knows not to bother replying to you, since you won't change your opinion even if everything you were basing it on is shown to be objectively wrong. Nice one.
Re: We're Getting Digital Right On 3DS And Wii U, Insists Reggie
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Low-Key Approach to the 2DS and Wii U Price Cut Reveals Wasn't Surprising
@Kirk
"Dude,
I'm not trying to trick you or anything.
