Re: Vita Overtakes 3DS in Tough Week for Japanese Charts

@Ichiban
You do know Reggie is a PR guy who doesn't actually make any decisions for the company, right?

@Peach64
If you actually did into their income statement instead of getting your news from click-bait articles you'd see that their gross profit (income calculated only based on actual sales and cost of selling) is a positive number. They actually are making money on the selling of their products.

Their net operating income is a negative member due mostly to advertising costs. They wasted a lot of money on ineffectual advertising last year.

But their non operating income more than makes up for that and the company as a whole had a net profit of roughly 7.5 million US.

You can peruse the document yourself.

The income statement starts on page 25.

Re: Video: What Could Xenoblade Chronicles Look Like In HD?

wombatkidd

@rushiosan because the Wii u doesn't emulate Wii games, it has an actual Wii on a chip. When it's in Wii mode it's a Wii. That's why it has a sperate interface for it.

You can't do software emulsion tricks with that kind of setup, with the trade off being that 100% of Wii games are compatible.

Re: Julius Caesar Will Be Taking the Battle to the Field in Mad Men Football

wombatkidd

@JJtheTexan there was a n64 game and a TV show both called "another world" there's a million shows and movies called "imaginarium" there's two shows called "the newsroom," there's a movie and album called "in dream"' and theres a billion books and movies that straight up have the same name. Including several movies named "troll 3"

All those were released just fine.

Re: Nicalis Boss Tyrone Rodriguez Thinks The Wii U GamePad Is "A Waste Of Time And Resources"

wombatkidd

@JohnRedcorn

I'll respond to your idiotic challenge with my own. Link to any existing negative gaming article from 1991-1995. Not only are records from then not available online any more, but gaming magazines were even more in the publishers pockets back then than they are now. One of the reasons JLN and their ilk were able to foist so much crap on the public was the lack of actual honest reviews of games. The fact that crap like Bubsy 3d got anything more than a 1/10 in any game mag is proof of that.

I told you the arguments that actual Sega and Sony fanboys threw at me because I owned a SNES/N64. The only way it's not a 1:1 comparison is that when their competitors copied them the criticism stopped.

Say what you want beyond this point. I won't be taking to you further.

Re: Nicalis Boss Tyrone Rodriguez Thinks The Wii U GamePad Is "A Waste Of Time And Resources"

wombatkidd

@JohnRedcorn "NO ONE (other than parents who had to pay for it) was jaded or pessimistic about game hardware back in the early to mid-1990's!"

I can tell right there that you either didn't grow up in that time or are not remembering it properly. Kids got into arguments over system specs all the time. Google "blast processing" sometime. People were always jerks about this stuff. They just used to do it in gaming magazines reader submission columns or to your face. I like you citing Nintendo power only having "pro" articles like that meant something. It was owned and published by Nintendo. That's the thing that's truly "quote worthy."

And no, the analog stick wasn't a "requirement" for nearly that many games. An option? Yes. But most of the puzzle games, racing games, and fighters could be played without it and controlled better with the dpad anyway. Or used it for things that could have easily been mapped to other buttons like the taunts you pretended could have only been done with the analog stick in wrestling games. The thing was out for 2 years before third parties started really building games around it.

Oh and there were definitely games that required the stick that would have been more comfortable with the dpad. Quest 64 and smash Bros come to mind.

And lastly, there were gamers who played GoldenEye and said that. I was one of them.

Re: Nicalis Boss Tyrone Rodriguez Thinks The Wii U GamePad Is "A Waste Of Time And Resources"

wombatkidd

@JohnRedcorn bs. If the n64 didn't have the analog stick it would have been designed completely differently. So would the SNES controller without those buttons. There were a bunch of games on the n64 that could be played completely fine without the analog stick.

And you might not be old enough to remember or just missed it because there wasn't the internet back then but people complained that the shoulder buttons added to the cost of controllers and added nothing, and people complained that the analog stick added nothing to games and didn't work right.

It's a direct 1:1 comparison. Get over it.

Re: Nintendo Switching Off Wi-Fi Connection Service On Wii And DS

wombatkidd

@unrandomsam oh. You're going back and editing your old posts to make arguments you didn't make the first time. No point talking to you any further since you've already made up v your mind that shutting down 10 year old servers is the most horrible injustice in the history of man and are being intellectually dishonest in the way you're supporting your absurd position. Bye.

Re: Wii U System Update 4.0.3 Goes Live

wombatkidd

@Boxmonkey they said that when we were still on version 2. We're on system version 4 now. Do the math. And if you think 2-5 seconds to go from a game to another application is "slow" I suggest you reduce your caffeine intake.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Direct Pointed to Another Wii U Retail Drought

wombatkidd

Nintendo's fiscal year ends on March 31st. It seems to me that they've made the strategic decision to not release anything before then, because they want all new release sales to count toward next year. That's why what little Wii U announcements there were start in April.

They probably would have pushed back DK too if they hadn't already given a firm release date.

Re: Poll: Have Your Say on Satoru Iwata's Nintendo Strategies

wombatkidd

@Yamitora1 they actually can't do that. The gamepad isn't a tablet. It's a controller. It doesn't do any processing. Doing that would require completely redesigning it, which would increase its already hefty cost and take development resources away from the other things they are working on.

Re: Talking Point: Is There A Future For The Wii U Without The GamePad?

wombatkidd

I love the internet.

Last gen they Nintendo used their unique controller for nearly every game and it was "I don't want to be forced to use this: give me traditional controls."

So this gen they listen and allow you the choice between using tradional controls or getting extra functionality from the gamepad and it's "I don't need the gamepad to play these games so why include it?" (forgetting how much less funtionality you get out of games like pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, and Deus Ex when you play without it)

People won't be happy no matter what Nintendo does.

Re: Weirdness: Try Not To Squirm As This Doomed Miiverse Romance Turns Sour

wombatkidd

Just a comment for the people saying not to met people online:

Miiverse is definitely not the forum, but there's nothing wrong with meeting someone online. Nearly 20% of relationships begin online in NA now. I met my wife online.

Some people have trouble talking to people (like me. I have a mental health issue that makes it hard for me to read and send social cues) or work a lot and don't have time to go to the bar or whatever. (like my wife who works 60 hours a week)

Re: Dr. Luigi announced for Wii U eShop

wombatkidd

@SparkOfSpirit It's not worth arguing with these people. If it WAS $10, they'd complain it wasn't 8. If it was 8 they'd complain it wasn't 5. If it was 5 they'd complain it wasn't $0.30. If it was $0.30 they'd complain it wasn't free.

Re: Review: NES Remix (Wii U eShop)

wombatkidd

To people complaining bout the price (which from the looks of it are the same people who complain about the price point of every single release no matter what price it actually is): it's time yet gain to explain the concept of the "free market".

You see, Nintendo has every right to charge whatever they want to for any game they release. If you think it costs too much, don't buy it. If enough people don't buy it, the price will drop. If people do buy it the price won't drop and you just miss out. Whining about it not costing a dollar on the internet is jus t childish.

Re: Mighty No. 9 Studio Comcept Facing Fan Backlash Over Community Manager Appointment

wombatkidd

@RPG_KING It's a game about robots... Why should a robot have sexuality at all? (Unless it's Hedonism bot. I love him)

@eza Yeah, sorry. The first thing I saw was complaining about a standard advertising practice that is used on both genders, so they lost credit with me right at post 1. The truth is that both genders are subject to sexism in some way.

My own personal problem with feminists I've listened to is that they crusade for any 'perceived' slight against women, but stand silent when things happen to men.

My best friend in high school was raped by a woman at a party. When he tried to report his rape the police laughed at him. No one bothered trying to help HIM.

Studies show that as many men are beaten by their wives as women are beaten by their husbands. But when a battered man tries to get into a shelter they won't take him.

No man anywhere in the world has successfully argued battered spouse syndrome in court.

If both parents are equal in a custody battle, the woman wins.

I could go on. I'm not saying that there isn't sexism against women, but there is sexism against men that goes on silently and no one tries to fight it. And in the end, that's my problem with people who say they are "feminists." I'm for equal treatment of all people. Which includes things like having the police investigate rape claims.

Re: Nintendo Download: 12th December (North America)

wombatkidd

@X_mirage_X "I'm not buying Nintendo VC games until they give some good stuff: to show this I'm not going to buy one of my favorite games."

Nice logic there.

@SparkOfSpirit Nintendo doesn't control when Capcom games come to the VC. Capcom does.

Re: Review: Super Mario 3D World (Wii U)

wombatkidd

@Traxx "I'm gonna sell my Wii U no matter how good the games coming out for it are, and am going to post this in the comments section for a game that got multiple 10/10 reviews instead of just selling it and getting a different console, but am totally not trolling."

Seems legit.

Re: Wii U System Update 4.0.2 Goes Live

wombatkidd

@Bluezealand It takes less than half a second to go from a program to the internet browser and less than 5 seconds to start a program in the first place. I don't get where people think that's "slow"

Re: Review: Super Mario 3D World (Wii U)

wombatkidd

@GreatPlayer

Games haven't gotten easier, just more fair. New Super Mario Bros U and Super Mario Bros. 3 are about as difficult as each other, the only reason 3 took people so long to beat is because it lacked a save feature.

I should also point out that it's entirely possible to beat Super Mario World in 20 minutes.

Re: Wii U System Update 4.0.2 Goes Live

@EvisceratorX @Magiick @Bluezealand

http://gematsu.com/2013/09/wii-u-firmware-update-4-0-0-u-released

The update you are all complaining about not getting was the 4.0 update. A non inclusive list of features it added:

  • can use the gamepad in Wii mode
  • automatic software downloads
  • usb keyboard support
  • Dolby Pro Logic 2 support for wii games
  • Fixed the issue where Wii VC games always displayed stretched instead of in their proper aspect ratio. (This wasn't documented though)

And speed optimization as well. The difference with browsing between the pre-4.0 firmware and the current one is night and day.

This was back in September.

Re: Happy Birthday, Wii U - You're One Today

wombatkidd

@kuribo4 "A question: Could it happen that if Nintendo doesn't sale they discontinue the console and we spent the money for nothing?"

That's very unlikely. If they don't support it themselves for 4 years minimum that will send the message that Nintendo doesn't support its own consoles and will have a disastrous effect on their brand identity and the sales of their NEXT console.

At this point all they really can do is ride this out, even if sales don't improve much. But they have enough money to take an operating loss for 6 decades, so they'll be fine in the long run either way.
