It's Nintendo Download day, North America, and your collection of download treats for the week has been revealed. This week brings a mix of the old and new on both Wii U and 3DS, while DSiWare also makes an appearance. There's certainly decent variety on offer, so check out the details below.
Wii U eShop
RUSH (Two Tribes, $1.99) — The final part of the Two Tribes Classics trilogy, the first iteration of this title arrived on WiiWare in 2009 as Rubik's Puzzle Galaxy: RUSH, though this Wii U version will be based on the subsequent PC / Mac title. We'll have a review for you soon to let you know whether this rounds off the excellent classics series in style.
Wii U Virtual Console
Double Dragon (Arc System Works, $4.99) — A fondly regarded 8-bit beat-em-up, this is likely to get quite a few purchases based on memories alone. It's now on Wii U, but you can check out our Wii Virtual Console Double Dragon review.
3DS eShop
3D Ecco the Dolphin (Sega, $5.99) — This series of 3D Sega titles continues with one of the most iconic Genesis / Mega Drive titles; at the time this exploration adventure in which you play the named dolphin was a fairly unique experience. It certainly has the potential to be an appealing 3DS download, so we'll dive in for our review; this entry is priced less than the other 3D Sega titles in Europe, so we're waiting for confirmation on the North American rate.
3D Galaxy Force II (Sega, $5.99) — Originally an arcade shooter that transitioned to home consoles, this is an on-rails space shooter with a viewpoint behind your spaceship; it was based on similar technology to Space Harrier. We'll start shooting stuff, and then shooting more stuff, to bring you our review.
Jump Trials Supreme (G-Style, $3.99) — This series forces you to complete stages in just 10 seconds and was relatively popular in its previous DSiWare iterations. It makes its début on the 3DS with new moves and features such as online leaderboards, SpotPass and StreetPass functionality. We'll summon our inner platforming ninja and bring you a review soon.
Life With Horses 3D (Treva Entertainment, $29.99) — Well well, it's another animal sim on the 3DS eShop. As the title makes clear this one is all about breeding and looking after horses, which includes StreetPass functionality and motion controls for riding horses. We'll give a yay or neigh on this soon.
My Style Studio: Hair Salon (Cypronia, $4.99) — This download's title is fairly self explanatory, serving up virtual hair styling with various tools and accessories. We'll dig out some scissors and see whether this makes the cut.
3DS Virtual Console
Double Dragon (Arc System Works, $4.99) — The same as on the Wii U Virtual Console but, erm, on 3DS.
3DS eShop Demo
Nano Assault EX (Shin'en Multimedia, Free)
AeternoBlade (Corecell Technology, Free)
3DS eShop Permanent Discount
Nano Assault EX (Shin'en Multimedia, $9.99, was $14.99)
DSiWare
Orion's Odyssey (Enjoy Gaming, 500 Nintendo Points) — Originally funded on Kickstarter, this is "a comedy-puzzle game" and spiritual successor to Hands On! Tangrams. We'll see how it shapes up in our review.
That's everything for this week, North America. Let us know what you plan to download in the poll and comments below.

I was really hoping for Link to a Past.
Only two Thursdays left, NOA. Still waiting on Super Mario Bros. 3
@Darknyht Yeah, me too.
Man, I was really hoping for A Link to the Past too. Double Double Dragon though?? C'mon man!!
I see they saved the worst 3D Classics for last...which I'm not complaining about. Nintendo, take notes, instead of giving us lots of crap before the good stuff.
This looks kind of fun! I might have to purchase it !
blehh
Another week of nothing.
What the heck?! No Link to the Past?!
I was really looking forward to a link to the past. ah well.
Yes! I've been thinking about getting Nano Assault for the longest! Can't wait to try out the demo.
I am not buying another VC game until they start giving us some good stuff. A Link to the Past would be a start. Normally I would probably buy Double Dragon because it was one of my favorite Nintendo games as a kid, but NO!! Give me some Zelda lovin' or some N64 lovin' and I am not buying this single game a week garbage until they give us some quality!
They teased Super Mario Bros 3 at the end of Summer and it's STILL not here. I don't get what's taking so long. And if they can release A Link to the Past in Europe then they can release it in NA.
I really don't get Nintendo sometimes. So many people are willing to buy those two games and it will cost them very little.
YES! Ecco the Dolphin, I'm pretty sure all Sega 3D Classics cost $5.99.
AWW YEAHH!! DEMOS!!!
So other countries get A link to the Past but we just get double dragon? don't get me wrong i love double dragon but i had my hopes up for A Link to the Past.... oh well. When was Super Mario Bros 3 coming out? It's been advertised on the Nintendo website for weeks now.
Why did people think we were getting Link to the Past?
Man, that photo Daz tweeted of @Thomas, what a sexy beast!
Sega 3D classics for me. Keep em coming...forever!
Meh, things are still quite slow for Wii U e-Shop and VC. Come on, it's time for it to pick up. Too bad so many e-Shop releases were postponed to next year.
I recommend Rush to everyone. I already own it on PC, and I don't double dip, but it is a a great puzzle game worth your time.
But since I already own that, nothing for me.
@ueI Because Europe got it. Makes reasonable sense.
@Kodeen and @XCWarrior Oh. Carry on, then.
Nano assault ex and RUSH
Seems like my eshop credits is safe to live another week.
I would have gotten Double Dragon if it was the second one, as that one has co op.
So Ecco for me, and maybe Nano. I would need a demo of Rush to see if my color blindness would be a handicap.
Nintendo needs to do a much better job with its virtual console libraries. When comparing Nintendo to Sony and Microsoft, it is obvious that Nintendo has the richest collection of games. Having many games people want to buy would move many systems, but Nintendo won't give people the games they want to play. This is the most important time of year for selling systems and we get Double Dragon and Ecco the Dolphin instead of Mario 3 and ALTTP? They should be releasing as many first party games from popular franchises as possible, as quickly as possible. It is unacceptable to not have SNES games or GBA games available on 3DS or N64 or GCN games available on Wii U at this point. Thinking about how much hype LoZ ALBW was given by Nintendo, to not release ALTTP on the 3DS in the weeks leading up to the game to build more hype defies logic.
Nothing for me because I have to send my XL in to get it repaired. Hopefully I will get it back before Christmas but I'm not getting my hopes up.
I also want to recommend Nano Assault. Own both this game and the Wii U one, and both Nano Strays on DS. All great games. Shinen is a great supporter of Nintendo and makes fun games.
I still can't access the eShop through my 3DS (Europe) so no downloads for me. >:-/
Got Orion's Odyssey free yesterday.
We still do NOT have Mega Max X2 and A Link to the Past... why does EU get this when NA doesn't??
@JohniePizzapies Yes!! I can't believe that ALTTP wasn't released BEFORE ALBW! I am just done with the VC. Seriously Nintendo. I have owned every console you've ever made and my Wii U is craving more downloads. All you have to do is release them!!
So no LttP and still no SMB3? I dont care for Double Dragon, either, as its sequel is by far the better game.
I was really hoping we'd get LttP or Mario 3 this week.
STORY TIME:
Back in 1988, my dad took me to local expo and sitting there, screaming loud music and amazing sound effects stood "Galaxy Force ][". My young mind was forever blow. It was really hard going back home and play ZX Spectrum. And look at us now, we get to carry this arcade in our pocket... and in glorious 3D stereoscopic if we wish! The future, man... we live in it!
PS: The asking price is worthy to be able to hear one of my favourite musics ever made by Sega: "Beyond The Galaxy"!
Love 3DS demos. That's what I'll get.
Enter people whining about no Link to the Past
Or 3D Echo the Dolphin!
another slow week for the U... I'll pick up Rush, and the 3ds demos... Jump Trials sounds interesting, I'll wait for a review on that.
Can someone tell me when the eshop updates? I wanna buy nano assault at the discount.
No Zelda: Link to the Past for North America....
Another lousy week from the folks at Nintendo. Good thing I still have M3DW and COD:Ghosts to keep me busy.
Another great week for the 3DS! I'm grabbing Echo 3D, Galaxy Force II 3D, Double Dragon, and both demos.
Gonna grab Ecco & GFII but I think I'll pass on Double Dragon since Streets of Rage is next week.
@shigulicious
at 2:00 Atlantic time if that helps.
Double Dragon (3DS) and 3D Ecco for me. Sega has done a fantastic job on their 3D Classic series.
@ikki5 thank you.
Ecco for me
If Double Dragon was the arcade.....2 player awesomeness version.......Not only would I buy it for both 3DS and Wii U.......but I'd be willing to pay $20 for each.....as it stands.....since it is the NES port, I may consider getting it for 3DS as a fun extra when traveling
Man I should have held off on Nano Assualt EX.
So, is the AeternoBlade demo actually available in the US eShop? Europe doesn't have it, apparently.
Was also really hoping for A Link to the Past.
Come on Nintendo! Bring us some more true classics like the hinted SMB3, ALttP and some great N64 classics as well!
@TwoTheNines Your sarcasm is cutting and cruel
I though Nintendo was having a weekly sale on their go-to franchises. First it was Zelda, then Mario. Last week Donkey Kong. I was expecting Kirby or something this week. What gives?
There was a time when america got everything and europe was left with long delays and even unreleased games, including SMRPG. Now it's kind of a reversal, games are coming sooner to europe and somes are not even realsed in NA. I guess it comes from the fact that the NA consumers are now more interested in local productions and become less interested in japanese products. JRPG, platformers and strategy games are slowly disapering and the common game looks more like a michael bay movie that you've already seen, no inovations, no artistic value, gunplay and generic "semi photo realistic" visuals are all that maters. Nintendo should at least help us believe that original gaming still exists by filling the VC to help maintain interest of current WiiU users, while we wait for other fantastic first party releases.
@toothhair The promo is done.
Aren't we supposed to be getting Flip Note by the end of the year? Whatever happened to that?
SEGA really does what Nintendo is refusing to do at this point: release good classic games. They're even going further by remaking them in 3D, something Nintendo has only done for 6 NES games, of which only 2 were memorable. I'm not saying we need 3D Super Nintendo games, or even SNES games on the 3DS VC, but a steady feed of GOOD VC titles would be nice. Super Mario Bros. 3 was announced 4 months ago, and it still isn't out yet. Meanwhile in Japan, the game's been available on 3DS since January. Whatever Nintendo's excuse is, I'm not buying it. VC games probably are easy to add to the eShop, and 4 months is way too long to hold a game that's been out. If anything, Nintendo should either release VC games soon after they are announced, or not announce them at all.
As an aside, I'm quite pleased that Nintendo has changed up the music in the eShop today. When I logged into the Wii eshop last, i had noted we've been listing to that same jingle there for far too long. Even if this is just a Christmas change, variety is the spice of life...
@Kodeen thank you.
@UnseatingKDawg Who knows? Maybe a Christmas Day / New Year's release!?
@kitroplious I guess you meant to tell @redoshi about this. ^_^
@CanisWolfred Wouldnt call next week's Streets of Rage worst. ;P
@CanisWolfred Nintendo has nothing to do with these 3D Classics. Sega announced the game lineup on their blog a few weeks ago before release.
@Kaze_Memaryu Thanks for the heads up! Sorry about that.
@CanisWolfred C'mon man, you don't really mean that for 3D Shinobi III do you? Ninja platforming action should be the highlight for this line.
Nintendo made it sounds like the sales promos they have been running the last three weeks were going to be a weekly thing. They never even included Kirby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
Japan has Super Mario Kart on Wii U VC
Europe has The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on Wii U VC
¿What's going on, NOA?
In terms of Aeternoblade, I'm afraid terrible things will happen with the release. I hope it doesn't repeat the likes of Kokuga and Real Heroes: Firefighter, because like the former, I really want to buy this...
And things just got tougher because of the NNID integration. I do have a spare 3DS though, but I want to see a Canadian release...
@TonyBoySP Double Dragon is an awesome game too!
I find this odd. I remember how things were here in Sweden growing up; games would be released years after JP and US. Now some releases actually come out in EU first. I kinda understand disc/card games, but digital games. They should be the same for every "region", and more of them. Get up to speed Ninty. Nowadays there are no regions when it comes to digital - there is one huge - it's called the internet.
@Darknyht yeah i am so jealous that the pal version came out for the wiiu. This would of been a good decision to release right before "a link between worlds".
It is on the wii how hard can it be to bring to the wiiu?
@allav866 And Nintendo is doing what Sega can't seem to do: make a bunch of new games that are praised
I Just dont get why Nintendo won't release good VC games over here, I mean Japan get about 3 Wii u games each week and 3ds too
@DarkwingLz Too true! xD
Nothing for me. No money, man.
I already have it on the Wii thanks to Club Nintendo, but still I don't often play the Wii U with the TV. I know I can manage Wii Mode with the gamepad but it is annoying to have to juggle two controllers when I could just be using the gamepad. I know, first world problem.
I'll be skipping Double Dragon on NES because I feel it is messed up by the added leveling system. Now if it was Double Dragon II, I would be all over that as it was one of my favorite NES games.
This looks like a pretty decent selection this week. I'm kind of interested in Double Dragon and then I've heard so many interesting things about Ecco that I may just have to check it out.
I'll be picking up Rush, Double Dragon, Ecco the Dolphin, and that Aeternoblade demo.
No Link to the Past? You're fluxing kidding me
It's worth noting that today's releases also get their own Miiverse communities day one.
We don't have Mega Man X2 yet either. This isn't a surprise because it's NOA.
Anyway, great week otherwise. I got some Rush, Double Dragon, and 3D Classics to download!
I don't see Double Dragon.
I only see the Gameboy Version of it.
Nintendo says they're releasing SMB3 on VC this year...so why are they waiting until the very last Thursday?
Where's A Link to the Past!!? NoA you had ONE JOB!
I can't find the AeternoBlade demo.
Agh, it's okay tough. We have lot's of cool games this week. Ecco The Dolphin is wonderful.
@ThomasBW84 - We got the same guild sale as Europe but we have to look up the titles, they aren't featured in the price drops or elsewhere.
Also AeternoBlade demo appears to be missing, no lost then.
AeternoBlade demo appears to be exclusive to the UK from what I read? That sucks because I love the premise and the games that it draws inspiration from.
Rush isn't in the eShop !
Was expecting A Link to the Past
@Kodeen @uel Yeah, that's why I stay away from Europe download weeks.
Augh, still no NES Double Dragon. >_<
@Darknyht
Yep, the shaft again, other places get games like chrono trigger, secret of mana, and link to the past and we get..double dragon....Nintendo is really screwing the pooch on North American VC..
@Zeldazero
But we didn't even get it this time, nothing on the VC Front this Week unless you can show me.
Biggest letdown of the week. I was hoping for zelda all week
Watch them overload SMB3 and Zelda LTTP the final Thursday of this year.
If you search for Rush in the little search box top-right in the Wii U eShop, you should find it. I know I just did and just purchased it.
Also, by searching for "Aeterno" in the 3DS, I managed to find the promised demo, and by searching for "Level 5", I found that all Guild titles minus Aeroporter are actually discounted to $4.99, as it was in the Europe update.
AeternoBlade demo is in the NA eshop now.
Can someone please let me know if they find the NES Version of Double Dragon on the 3DS Eshop & how too find it, thank you.
I see that the eShop has finally updated, making my comment redundant pretty much the instant I posted it...
In any event, this article should be updated to reflect the availability of the discounted Level 5 titles.
Sweet, I found it.
How about some stateside love with that Bravely Default demo?!
Nothing this week as my 2DS is getting the screen replaced. I am quite upset that the U.S. release of Mega Man X2 and A Link to the Past haven't happened yet.
@ikki5 Well, what do you expect? People in NA want to throw their money at Nintendo for A Link to the Past. No need to be insensitive about it.
I myself was really hoping it would be this week. I'm very disappointed.
so aterno blade kinda sucks, what kind of action game stops you every 10 seconds for story ar a loading screen, they didnt even let me pick up the items myself, they did in some sort of sudo cutscene,
it might just be the demo but this game seems really unpolished, and i was looking forward to this game too, not so much anymore
i will stick to Ninja Gaiden ds
@Blizzaga just play it in wii mode, just be glad you have the ability to play it at all
OK nintendo, you can start rolling out the "good stuff" now. Where's the n64 classics and the fabled gamecube releases you once talked about before thw Wii U was released? Was it all just a big lie?
Ya see I told y'all A Link To The Past wouldn't be on this week. So glad I bought the GBA cartridge, I really think that I'm going to stop supporting Nintendo and the entire industry for a while I have enough games to last me a good year or two.
Rush and DD on Wii U.
@Geno92 Well for one thing neither were promised
Grabbed the demos and took advantage of the Liberation Maiden and Crimson Shroud sale since I missed the last time they were cheap. Got a three day weekend ahead so gonna make my 3DS work for me.
I only have enough for one game so I picked up Galaxy Force II
2 weeks remain, Super Mario Bros. 3... Sigh
Already downloaded Rush, and downloading Nano Assualt EX Demo on my 3DS before the day is over. This week was pretty good. But Nintendo, again like last week, 2 Thursday left in 2013. End it in style. Super Mario Bros. 3, ALttP and Super Mario Kart all thru-out the next 2 Thurday's? Finish 1st party NES and SNES titles in January. PLEASE!
And to add insult to injury
now that our eShop accounts can be LINKED there should be no reason other than greed to ask us to buy the same VC title twice if we want it on both our Wii U and 3DS.
But no, Double Dragon is still 4.99 on the 3DS despite my purchase of it earlier today for the Wii U.
Sigh.
Nintendo probably saved ALTTP and SMB3 for the last two weeks of the year.
Huh. From other sites it seems Level 5 Guild games are on sale for $5....must investigate!!!
The Level-5 games are indeed on sale.
@Webby-sama
I'm glad you said that! I bought a $20 card just for starship Damrey, Friday Monsters, and ALttP, so I was pretty disappointed this week! Thanks!
Oh, I thought this was it for the 3D Classics. A man can dream...
@X_mirage_X "I'm not buying Nintendo VC games until they give some good stuff: to show this I'm not going to buy one of my favorite games."
Nice logic there.
@SparkOfSpirit Nintendo doesn't control when Capcom games come to the VC. Capcom does.
I don't know what you guys are complaint about. I'm getting double dragon. And I'm sure there are tons of younger people that never played it. Good week for me.
@Geno92 : it wasn't a lie. I think they just wanted to let you know what's on the horizon. It might be a few years before they start whipping out gc games. ( and for everyone else) I think everyone has to realize they can't dump all these games on the eshop. They are in the business of making money. This isn't about satisfying the nut jobs that have played through every game ever made.
@wombatkidd My response was poorly worded, but the jist of it is that they are trickling out games slower than necessary. I would like to get some N64 games, maybe some GC games, definitely more 1st party games. Zelda, Mario, etc.
If they had given me more of these things then I would buy games like Double Dragon when they hit. I am not going to support their slow releases by buying this game even though I do like it. I am waiting to see some real support first.
The worst part is they release just one VC game on BOTH platforms. At least give us some variety!
Really enjoying Rush... well worth the 2 bones!
@Thomas I actually quite enjoyed the pic and perhaps didn't communicate very well when one dude thinks another dude is looking good (genuinely). So not as malicious as that might have read No sarcasm here when I say as a Canadian who likes his flashy "toques", keep rocking that look!
@XCWarrior
Good to know, cause I'm definitely interested. As a matter of fact, I think I will go ahead and get RUSH. It looks great and I love solid puzzle games like that.
Another week and another crap support for Wii U's Virtual Console. Everybody is sick of it. But I was thinking about something: if we haven't got any Nintendo 64 games yet (and even Japan hasn't), this is most likely because Nintendo is indeed working on that “ReUmagined series". That's the only explanation that makes sense to me. What do you think?
Am I the only one thinking that this is a really good week? The long-awaited Double Dragon PLUS 3D Classic Ecco the Dolphin!! It's about time!!
@Darknyht Yup, me too. BOOOOO!
Aeterno Blade Demo - i was so happy as i heard that the demo will come...
but i dont know why but the demo doesnt come in the german eshop... awesome... really -,-
It's a shame the 3DS did not get Double Dragon Advance (or any GBA titles, for that matter). It's one of my favorite DD versions besides the original arcade version.
Thank you Sega! Boo to you, Nintendo...
@kitropliou: Yeah well, it's an NES game. Don't know what's taking them so long.
@SirQuincealot
I've already purchased it for Wii Mode. I want to play it on my GamePad (with buttons) and with my Wii U Pro Controllers. And last, but more importantly, the amazing Miiverse integration.
None of the "be lucky you have it at all" BS was called for.
Now that there's two versions of Double Dragon on the 3DS eShop, shouldn't the Game Boy version be taken down?
@UnknownNico No, it holds value for some gamers (usually nostalgic) and each version is slightly different. I'd love to see the arcade port offered.
Double Dragon was great, but the arcade version was excellent-it was released on Sega Mega Drive-getting that and possibly a 3D version would be awesome
Double Dragon and 3D Ecco for me. Will pick up some of those Level 5 games after Christmas. Also, about time Nano Assault EX went down in price. $15 for it was too much. Now for Shantae Risky's Revenge to get a price drop.
Also, my main gripe with the VC is that there has been too slow of a trickle. Instead of 1 or 2 each week, there should be 3-5 a week. Nintendo, get SMB3 and ALttP out so that people can stop complaining, it's getting rather annoying. Would also like to see N64 and GBA games on the Wii U VC soon. SNES games on the 3DS VC aren't happening unless Nintendo releases them as 3D Classics because the 3DS has difficulty emulating SNES (and Genesis for that matter) games.
I just don't understand why Nintendo has such a massive back catalogue of amazing games and they release them at a snails pace.
Because SEGA drops the bombs
@JaxonH Glad I convinced at least one person to get Rush, especially at $2! The level of difficulty goes up at a nice pace. I don't remember ever needing to consult a guide, but near the end some of the puzzles took awhile. I agree, love mind testing puzzlers.
@datamonkey And that good sir is the 64-bit question.
