Coming back to this review several years later...I just finished my second play through without even really meaning to, but I just couldn't put the game down. Yes, this basically is a 2D clone of DS, but it has that same addictive quality where you always just feel like you are getting a little bit better at some tough boss. The lack of a map end up being (mostly) a non-issue for me. Just like I can map out half of Dark Souls in my mind, the same is true for this game. This game is a 9 at least. Definitely don't let this review dissuade you from giving it a try!
Can't say I am that interested in this, but I could see picking it up for $30 or less (likely sometime way in the future since this is Nintendo). It reminds me a lot of the Link's Awakening Remake, which I thought was not really worth it.
So I haven't actually played Baldur's Gate, but it is REALLY hard to imagine it surpasses TOTK. TOTK is just, by far, the greatest game ever made for me. I have over 160 hours in it and barely even scratched the surface of Ultrahand. It is just so big and has so many possibilities, and I think it probably deserves GOTY. If something else actually wins, that will be a game I will definitely have to try out.
Looks nice, but I can't believe there are people who actually spend this much on these things. With that said, I am glad there are, but it's definitely not me!
I agree, it does not NEED to be backwards compatible. BUT, if the countless low-requirements indie games get a Switch 2 release, I at least want to be able to "upgrade" my existing Switch 1 versions to be able to play them on the new system.
There is nothing better than a truly excellent Metroidvania (Metroid Dread, Hollow Knight, etc), but I am starting to get tired of the just good ones. Let's see how good this one is.
Tears of the Kingdom is probably the best game of all time and almost certainly the best game of 2023. I can't say it definitely is since I have not, in fact, played every game released so far this year, but let's be honest, it's 2023's GOTY easily.
Looks like a solid foundation for a great game. My guess is that some post launch updates fix the performance issues and help balance out some of the progression. I will definitely keep this one on my radar!
Inside has to be one of the most overrated games in history. I am surprised to see it still selling so well, although I guess the deep discounts it frequently sees helps.
Man this is soooooo good, but seriously, these games are available for like $1 on Steam. Given how much cheaper so many games are on Steam, the Steam Deck is very tempting sometimes. If the Steam Deck worked for Half Life: Alyx and VR gaming in general, I'd be all over it.
@kingbk Agreed, although the two examples you used, while impressive they even made it to the Switch, do seem like very significant visual downgrades. I am most excited about the games which can be ported to Switch with minimal compromise.
20 years later seems like the right time to update the game. I'd be super excited to play Metroid Prime again on Switch. However, when games like PS3's "The Last of Us" get a remastered version on PS4 and then a remake on PS5, this is just way too much and totally unnecessary.
All of the best announcements (at least for me) are just Switch releases of games which are already out elsewhere (Portal, Persona, Nier: Automata). It's amazing how much I and seemingly many others just really prefer Switch compared to other platforms. You just cannot beat the option to be play docked or handheld!
Woohoo! Insta-buy for me. They both run great 1080p/60fps docked and 720p/60fps handheld. Since we now have these and also The Talos Principle on Switch, we just now need The Witness to have all of the best first person puzzle games! One can hope...

Re: Feature: Nintendo Partner Direct Predictions - What Do You Expect To See?
We are officially in a post HK:S era. I think we have largely moved on. Maybe we'll get it someday, maybe we won't. Not holding my breath
Re: 129 Switch Games You Should Pick Up In Nintendo's Cyber Deals Sale (North America)
It seems like maybe too many 9's are being given out!

Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Has Been Updated To Version 1.0.1, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
I wonder if they removed the visible crown over the primary player’s head in two player for invisibility sections

Re: 'Blade Chimera' Combines Stunning Pixel Art With Stylish Metroidvania Action
How many games now "combine stunning pixel art with stylish metroidvania action"? So many of these now, but I'll probably still play it
Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate That Nintendo Indie World Showcase?
At least we are still getting Braid

Re: Nintendo Announces Indie World Showcase For Tomorrow, November 14th
Braid seems like it would be very likely. Silksong a possibility, but I would still be surprised if it did show up

Re: Talking Point: Along With Joy-Con Drift, What Does Nintendo Have To 'Fix' With 'Switch 2'?
Switch 2 needs achievements and also decent online gaming features. The social aspect of gaming should not be so ignored.

Re: Nintendo's Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom TV Ad Might Be Its Best One Ever
Nice ad, but I also love how the guy in the huge mansion is taking the bus to work. Seems unlikely, even in most places outside the car-dependent US

Haha, this is the most ridiculous and confusing comparison video I have seen.
Re: Round Up: Every Game And Trailer From The Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase June 2022
My favorite announcement was the Silksong release date. Ok, really...I am stoked to finally get Portal 1 and 2 on the go!

Re: Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, And Persona 5 Royal Are Coming To Switch
Never played any of the Persona games but given how acclaimed P5R is, I'll definitely have to play this eventually. Looking forward to it!
