Remember your first time playing Tetris on Game Boy? You know what would make that experience even better? 3D.
Nintendo has just announced that Tetris: Axis will see release in North America on 2nd October, bringing with it 8-player Download Play, Augmented Reality and SpotPass features too. In fact, there are over 20 gameplay modes, running from the classic survival and arcade modes to six-player online play over Nintendo WiFi Connection.
Will you be slotting this one into place in your 3DS game collection come 2nd October?
The original portable Tetris® game was a smash hit on the Game Boy™ system. The new Tetris: Axis game lets players use the magic of the Nintendo 3DS system to jump into the action in 3D without the need for special glasses. The game includes more than 20 different modes – some familiar, some new. Up to eight players can compete in wireless multiplayer battles, even if only one player has a game card**. Tetris: Axis also makes use of the augmented-reality and SpotPass™ features of Nintendo 3DS.

Yeah!
i think tetris party live for dsiware is enough tetris for me.
Added to mah list.
Awesome!
So many great games to buy...
sigh
another game that i have to buy. It keeps stacking up lol
sounds great if I had the money to buy it!
Even though Tetris for the Game Boy is mentioned here, we're still probably never going to get it on the Virtual Console. Such a tease.
@5 I see what you did there
i would get the gb one if it goes on eshop.is there a reason why it wouldnt?
TETRIS
Mwa ha ha, I pre-ordered this game for $26 during E3 and can't wait. Too bad the D-pad on the 3DS sucks so much though — can't really fathom playing Tetris with the C-pad.
20 game modes? Awesome! Will wait for a sale before I get it though.
Tetris for the 3DS? Count me in I just wish they would have a more Tetris DS type game with tons of Nintendo themed levels, music, etc.
I'm in on this one. Might not be able to get it until Christmas, but I love Tetris and 20 game modes is great.
There was a Tetris game for the psone that had a npc that was an architect and on top of clearing lines you had to prevent crushing the little dude or getting him spiked to death from rising to the top as he wandered the playing field. I'd love to see a sequel to that or an inclusion in this package and then i'll buy more tetris.
FINALLY! I was holding off getting the DSiWare version in case a 3DS version would be coming out...
I need me some more Tetris in my handheld life.
I wish it were a download. Its a game that I wish could be stored on the SD card so I could have it w/ me no matter what game card I have slotted.
Only if it has customizable controls! Since I'm used to playing on a PC, the default console controls feel a bit awkward to me.
While it is really cool to see tetriminos in 3D (and the menu for Tetris Axis is in ridiculously cool 3D I could spend a couple hours just flippin through the options) the version of Tetris that 99% of people want to see is the original. Theres really no way to replace the nostalgia of that simple Russian styled Game Boy game, that EVERY single person with a system had.
I was hoping this was going to be a 3dsware game instead. Still just when I thought I would be done with Tetris forever its good to see I might not be.
Ehhh, I'd rather have this new version. To me, online multiplayer > nostalgia of the original. Needless to say, I can't wait for this one!
This is a must-get for me.
Maybe.
Oh wow!! I can't wait for this! 3-D tetris! Sign me up!
Another puzzle game ?!
The AR functionality on this one looks really interesting! I can't wait to pick this baby up!
@26: Not just another puzzle game but TETRIS in 3D!!!
I love Tetris. I bought Tetris, Tetris Party, and Teris Party Deluxe.
I will be the first one buying it.
I wonder what they will do with Spotpass.
I'm kinda worried with regards to AR. On some surfaces, it just keeps jutting out. Hopefully the AR experience with be a smooth one.
I'll get this day 1 or 2, but I'd almost rather just have the gameboy version on the VC.
I don't have my hopes as high. It doesn't look as fun as Tetris DS.
Aw, sweet, AR Tetris? Sign me up!
This game a is a joke, people. As I've said, seems like the 3DS is nothing but a "Re-DS" meaning nothing but enhanced ports and continuations of the same games. If you want tetris, go play Tetris DS. Don't waste your money on this crap. 3DS is probably going to fail with games like this and gimmicky 3D.
Hudson? ...uh oh. If it's like their last release on DS, you won't be allowed to erase your high scores (yea, that same 3DS issue again). I had to end up buying my girlfriend a new copy of the game on DS when I accidentally dominated the scoreboard the first time I played.
When this is $20, I'll be picking it up for sure.
GAMEBOY! DON'T FORGET YO TETRIS!
Me wanty. Tetris co, don't forget Australia o0o0o!!
@masterz13
So wait... you're saying that a handheld can exist WITHOUT TETRIS???! BLASPHEMY!!!!
I understand what you're saying, but seriously: THIS. IS. TETRIS.
You can't be a handheld without Tetris.
Honestly, Tetris DS (ie, greatest Tetris game of all time) with a few added 3D effects would be more exciting than the screenshots above. I suppose I just refuse to accept a world without Push mode and retro visual style.
I dream of 3D tetrominos.
@masterz13: Good to know, bro, I think I'll change my mind now.
@masterz13 Surely the same could be said about Tetris DS?
Looking forward to this.
Could be good. Could be just more of the same. I'm not bothered for the AR game. If it's anything like the built in AR games then I get annoyed at the wobbliness of them after a while. Face raiders works but games where you're looking at a something that is supposed to be staying still and is in fact wobbling just irritate me.
I guess it's good I didn't get the DSiWare Tetris Live, as this seems, well, at least a tad superior. I think I'll get this - Tetris never gets old and it's great to see a game that uses almost every new feature of the 3DS, and AR too!
Ah, great, looks like I'm not the only one who wants that awesome Nintendo retro theme with their Tetris fix. That was what sold Tetris DS to me. Oh, and the wealth of interesting game modes. Hopefully this one's to the same caliber!
Will wait for reviews on the different modes since i've got the strange feeling it won't be much different / better to Tetris Party Deluxe.
Thanks for being our guinea pigs, America.
Edit: Would have been interesting if they'd use StreetPass too.
I want dat one.
Nice.
