Re: Video: Some Of Us Prefer Zelda: Majora's Mask Over Ocarina Of Time Because We're Right

@SNESDisney if they won't push it, i will, because this is absurd--do you read books exclusively for the technical skills exhibited by the author? do you watch movies only for the filmmaker's skills? you could just as easily argue a story is a useless vessel for both of those things, and it would ring the exact same way as what you're saying. acting like games should only exist for the sake of gameplay is asinine and a ridiculously constrictive worldview--the game literally has "Legend" in the title, are you expecting the story not to be a focus? do you think RPG players are playing for the gameplay alone?

get off of your backseat game design chair, wipe off the glasses so rosy-tinted they're practically pink diamond at this point. i couldn't care if one game is better than the other (and I agree "best game" pissing matches are ridiculous, but that is literally any fanbase on anything with sequels), but story informs both the pacing and structure of both of these games, to act like it's just background information is insanely disingeuous

"when your personal bias/bitterness/jealousy/favoritism starts meddling with reality" people talk about the games they like? people like the aspects of the games they like? you're acting like your opinion is some Objective One True Truth About Video Gaming when it's just as much a throwaway opinion as any other in this comment section, why the high horse?

think the headline/video title here is a little ridiculous, but not as ridiculous as having a meltdown over someone thinking majora's mask is better than OOT (let alone giving someone the business for having an emotional attachment to a game, which literally everyone who plays games has had at least once)

for what it's worth, they're both fine games, they just do different things. both are still better than wind waker by virtue of not having a needlessly tedious overworld

@SwitchForce ...you're expecting people to finish a 100+ hour game which numerous reviewers have complained that their keys arrived way too late for them to see in full? if someone eats 80% of a pizza in front of a waiting crowd, gets full, and says it's good, it's not un-credible that they didn't have the last two slices

people want to see games reviewed before they come out/reviewers have deadlines, either get over it or critique the structure rather than the players in it

Re: Square Enix Is Looking Into More HD-2D Remakes Of SNES Classics

@jojobar do you expect them to make a new style and just not use it? again, I still don't particularly care for how it looks, but I think a better way of framing it is that the style gets more normalized than uninteresting, which is most likely the goal. I doubt Square Enix is planning on selling HD-2D on novelty alone for the rest of its existence, so they have to legitimize it first

Re: Square Enix Is Looking Into More HD-2D Remakes Of SNES Classics

@Grumblevolcano feel like some of the charm in Mario RPG would be lost if it went from isometric + rendered to HD-2D's weird 3D environments
@jojobar while I agree that it's a real blow to the artstyles of the games it's put on (see Live a Live's sprites getting additional animation), I would hardly say 4 games is "oversaturated"; if anything it seems like it's starting to get into its groove now that it doesn't have the egregious bloom/lighting that makes everything look encased in amber/vaseline like in Octopath

@Mr_Fox this is kind of what i thought was so weird about this article, even if it's written in a sympathetic tone, it still feels like something that we shouldn't be seeing

@blindsquarel what exactly is being stolen if it wasn't a potential sale and the physical game the copies are made from was already bought; what dragonstar was saying was "it hurts nobody's bottom line if there wasn't going to be a purchase in the first place"

there have been various papers debunking your line of thought

Re: Anniversary: Night In The Woods Is Now Five Years Old

@Magician that entire situation is terribly sad and people approach it with an absolute 0 sense of nuance or tact and it drives me insane, regardless, i do hope the comment section doesn't devolve into only talking about it (would you look at that it's devolving into both things I said here woweeee)

@Matty1988 you're not the only one who feels that honestly, it's very much a "if you don't gel with the characters the game doesn't work" game

Re: Anniversary: Night In The Woods Is Now Five Years Old

it's a pretty strong game. never resonated with me as much as it did some others but the story itself was swell and i liked all the main cast well enough (though I do wish angus got a little more time to cook)

hoping this comment section can stay this positive

Re: Atlus Announces Soul Hackers 2, But It's Not Coming To Switch

i didn't have much faith in atlus to make a soul hackers sequel and i was 100% right from the looks of it, have to echo the sentiments of those saying this looks like TMS#FE/digimon cyber sleuth and i don't know how much i can trust the story to be a knockout after SMTV was decidely middling

Re: 'Capcom Fighting Collection' Brings An Arcade Exclusive Home After 26 Years

i saw a baffling amount of people complaining this didnt have mvc2 (along with other similar out of place picks like power stone and rival schools) in it which, barring the legal issues, is a series with enough games for its own collection and would be remarkably out of place on a collection of games no higher than CPSIII

@Edd-O physical is already confirmed

Re: Thousands Of Dollars Of Rare Factory-Sealed SNES Games Unearthed After 27 Years In Storage

@GamerDad66 he's the owner of a games store, that sells games, I think it's pretty understandable that he would be excited about finding games to sell at his games store that I can literally take a bus to right now. calling him a "hipster parasite" is just not knowing what the deal here is, plain and simple

i'm decently sure the store has issues staying afloat on retro games alone (they sell DVDs/Blurays and some other electronics now which always weirds me out) so it's both a cool find and a good way to keep a retro store from crashing and burning. it's like the dudes who find earthbound CIB at Goodwill or whatever, it's a big case of "man I wish that was me, cool find!"

Re: Thousands Of Dollars Of Rare Factory-Sealed SNES Games Unearthed After 27 Years In Storage

fun fact about this joint, used to be a place named Gamers, before it was (seemingly?) bought out and the owner of what used to be Gamers tried to steal a bunch of PS4s and whatnot from what was no longer his store and sell them

their main location is where I got my New 3DS from back when it was still Gamers, so it's surprising to see they just unpacked all this right next to me (let alone see a business from Omaha on a european website about nintendo news)

Re: Atlus Is Teasing Something On A New Soul Hackers Countdown Website

i'd appreciate it if they brought soul hackers and devil summoner to switch unaltered, but translated, but that's hoping too much

@N00BiSH the story is good, but the gameplay takes some getting used to, even as a (modern, admittedly) smt fan

the magnetite system, where demons you have summoned use a secondary form of currency, in particular is grueling
