@jrt87 i feel it's not too out there to gesture towards support when you need it? i've seen tons of creators do this

also "bland" =/= awful, lol

i always get the dude confused with alphaomegasin (who is a totally different breed of awful,) so i haven't seen him since maybe...2012? but there have to be stronger points than some of these

@Ooyah @SwitchVogel @Not_Soos also worth keeping in mind is (as far as i know, at least) there's an element of venting/pushback in it for edmund mcmillen, whose family was extremely die-hard born again christians (as well as some catholics judging by his wiki page), which pushed him into a lot of trauma as a kid--a lot of isaac is butt and poop and fart jokes, but a lot of it is also darkly poking at abusive/absentee parents, super fundamentalists and televangelists, and what it's like growing up through a divorce, all through the lens of a kid who is having these mixed messages pushed on them (hence why a lot of it hinges on isaac viewing himself as a devil/has sinned/etc.), like what ooyah said but with the added context of mcmillen having lived through certain aspects of it

religious guilt is one of the worst kinds to work through, if mcmillen and nifflas are anything to go off of

Re: Feature: Which Is The Absolute Best Nintendo Console Generation?

today we mourn user SNESDisney who would have had an opinion on this for sure

joking aside, i'd go ds/wii era, as much as i love the gamecube and gba era and its experimentation, i feel like a lot of gamecube games do not hold up terribly well, and although those are usually the exceptions to the rule, they're pretty big names to not hold up. the wii and ds' gimmicky nature also allowed a whole lot of experimentation and expansion on classic concepts in new ways while simultaneously adding a lot of accessibility

@-Lily- i've thought VII has had a wonderful sense of whimsy/discovery even if the plot isn't quite as straightforward as other entries (i.e.: each island has its own plot) and relatively standard gameplay in line with all the rest so far, what makes you say it's one of the weakest?

thank you to markdown autoformatting for making it impossible to @ this person

@Specter_of-the_OLED i'd prefer a complete package to anything else, can't take the good without the bad in a history collection

that said, there was 0 chance of them including max (it's a PSP game), 3 upper (naomi ports are notoriously rare), or hyper (this isn't even really a game) and to assume they would is just silly; even alpha 2 gold has only really been rereleased on the ps2 collection and most people usually think about it as the console version, which again wouldn't make sense in an arcade compilation

Re: Defend The Rook Is A Roguelike Tower Defense That Takes Its Moves From Chess

were people really getting mad at kate taking sarcastic potshots at chess of all things? one of my favorite games but no need to be so haughty/snooty about it, yeesh--it's not like the 10,000,000-year reign of chess intellectuals in the boardgame-o-sphere will crumble because someone likes mouse trap better

anyways, any game with chess theming/variations on chess are usually great--recently Shotgun King on PC, as well as Chessformer, for instance

@DestructoDisk many consumers and many reviewers prefer their TVs either warm or cool (I'm definitively a cool person) which goes into color accuracy and what is considered most accurate (tends to bias towards warm from reviews i've seen)

mass market reviews are also generally not for the enthusiast/professional who is getting really, really into the nitty-gritty about the best calibrated TV, to be fair
