the cave icons are really promising... I loved the bits of BOTW where you got to explore caves, behind waterfalls etc. but they were few and far between. more of this sort of thing please!
i wish there was more puggsy influence in these exploration/combat/platformer games. i'd love to see the introduction of item/physics based puzzles, for example. perhaps a new genre could be coined; puggsyvania?
worth noting that if you have 3rd party joycons (as i do, due to joycon drift issues with my original ones) you cannot remap the controls on the switch
i didn't look at the picture so i didn't make the cheshire cat connection. my first thought was of sandbach services; surely a domain of demons if ever there was one.
I'd completely forgotten that this was a thing. Then on Boxing Day, I was digging through some of my old stuff at my parents' house and I found a bunch of budget PC games with this kind of box art. I kind of miss it, it meant that I could afford the games
@mereel but the score factors in all aspects of a game, including price. so a 9/10 $5 indie game is equivalent to an absolutely delicious deli sandwich, whilst a 9/10 AAA title is equivalent to a gourmet meal at a fancy restaurant. (not sure what the food equivalent of a f2p game with microtransactions is but i hope i don't have to deal with it in my lifetime)
would've liked to see some gameplay in the trailer. if it has the multi-layered card-based combat and interlocking skill trees of the first one, i'm in!
i renamed all of ian wilson's pokemon to rude words on the year 9 french trip when he let me borrow his gameboy. i still feel guilty about it now, one of the few occasions from my childhood where i was actively mean to another child. if you're reading this ian, i'm sorry.
played this after only having played the mega drive games and honestly it's like someone cross-bred tony hawks pro skater with breath of the wild but put a hedgehog in it. madness
all this sonic on a nintendo website... me in 1994 is disgusted. in all seriousness tho the first sonic game was v. good. not played any since but if the quality has been maintained since then this is gonna be a banger.
imo the voice acting in botw was a little bit rubbish. made the cutscenes seem amateurish and weird compared to the rest of the game. i've always been a fan of zelda characters just making funny little noises rather than actually speaking
churning out all these games is a bloody weird strategy. and the titles are even weirder. reminds me of when my young son makes up his own names for things that are very literal but completely offbeat.
initially i wasn't too keen on the idea of 'cavill geralt' as i was too hung up on 'cockle geralt'. now i think they're both great. here's hoping that 'hannah montana's ex-husband' geralt will also be good, you never know.
i had a video games magazine ~1995, possible gamesmaster, and it had a big hints and tips section about mortal kombat iii, including images of numerous fatalities, babalities, animalities etc. i never played the game or saw it in action but some of the images stuck in my head and freaked me out for years.
@victordamazio personally don't agree with 'better' but they are two distinctive approaches and the traditional linear platformer seems to have taken a back seat since the late 90s, particularly with the rise of the 'metroidvania'/open world games. (i'm ignoring endless runner type games here which kind of follow on from that tradition in a simplified sense) i thought super mario 3d world was fairly well regarded tho, it just suffered from being on the wii u?
i don't understand how pokemon is a worldwide phenomenon that presumably makes a bumload of dosh and yet, the (recent) games all have this off-putting amateurish tinge to them.
currently very confused because until today i was convinced this game was about a haunted holiday let just outside of skipton. is it just me or is this some sort of shared false memory, like the mandela effect?
i'm sort of okay with cloud gaming but paying a one-off price is objectively madness. what happens when they take the servers down? are they going to give all the money back, stadia style? such a shame that cloud versions aren't included with nintendo switch online - might make it worthwhile to get it/play them.
some of these look fantastic! there are mind-boggling numbers of original, imaginative and creative indie games on the switch, but it's nigh on impossible to find them by browsing the e-shop. so, i really appreciate articles like this
looking at the title card i was immediately repelled, just looks like a shovelware farm sim or something... but the woozy synth music is original and utterly beautiful and actually from the trailer the game looks like a really weird interesting game. looking forward to this one
please note, anyone wishing to buy this who owns the orig, that with the release of the anniversary edition on switch, the following 'creations' have automatically been added for free to the base game:
survival mode
fishing
rare curios (a bunch of new items and ingredients)
saints and seducers (a new quest line/dungeon with various other new stuff)
I'm just writing this because a lot of the reviews i've read seem to lean hard on 'fishing' as the flagship feature. you wanna fish, you don't need to buy the anniversary add-on, just get a rod and get busy

@DJDM i have played alan wake and i can confirm his torch does not flash. quite frankly it'd be annoying if it did!
